Maybe he likes to associate her with gloomy things because, in the end, her sunny disposition and her unbreakable faith in the heart and her friends will bring light to those who lack it.
Her kind hearted nature even rubs on her "enemies". She is able to make us sympathetic towards her so called enemies like Sora and Ulquiorra (and even that Shinigami that carries her off in Soul Society [not Ken-chan]), and she is able to understand the inner workings of characters like Ishida.
All in all, she is the sun in the eternal night that looms over these afflicted characters (some more afflicted than others

), it's what makes them crave for her (even HollowIchi came out for her, as bad as that may be) and what makes them change their ways (albeit slowly).
You can really say that, no matter how dificult things are turning out to be, Orihime will always try to cheer one up even when feeling bad herself, that my friend takes a lot of inner strenght, funny how one of the most unsecured characters can bring out the best in others.

Oho I wonder if I should post this in the Orihime FC... ah the mentioning of a certain espada may make them go nuts over there so I think not.

If chapter 354, "Heart" somehow turns out to be the last we see of Ulquiorra, would you say his character and his relationship with Orihime got closure? (Be honest!)

That would be a profound NO on my side. The "ending" was heart warming, somewhat unexpected and beatiful in both words and art but, it doesn't give out that "closure" feeling.
There are so many things that we do not know about Ulquiorra, we do not know Orihime's side of the story yet, Ulquiorra hasn't had a chance to experience all that the heart can give. He needs to make that invisible bond with Orihime more tangible, he needs to prove he understands the heart.
For all this and more, I firmly believe that was not the last we've seen of Ulquiorra.

If Ulquiorra were to join the good guys' side, might Ulquiorra/Orihime run the risk of losing the aspects that attracted you to it in the first place?

No, it would just change into something better.
At first I was attracted to UlquiHime because of the captor/captive dynamic and all it implied (from the forced relationship to the captor turned friend theme), now that the latter has kinda happened, my interest focus on how this unlikely "friendship" may work on a daily environment, how will the allies react? How will the "evil" character stay true to himself while changing a big part of his way of being, how will this affect the one that stated said change?
So no, UlquiHime works for me in various aspects and I don't think turning into one of the "good guys" (I prefer anti-hero like someone else said) will affect my attraction to this pair. (helps that they are freaking HOT together

)

@kawaii: That makes sense, too. Orihime is a beacon of light, and one can't help but be affected by her bright attitude and personality. Even someone like Ulquiorra, who thrived in the darkness and fed on despair, couldn't escape her influence.

And I would have encouraged you to post your points in the Orihime FC, but I've decided to forsake the damn place for exactly the reasons you stated.

But yes, Orihime does make an excellent and effective beacon of light, a candle lit in the eternal darkness plaguing Ulquiorra's life. ^^

NO.

Okay, I'm going to be honest. At first, I felt an actual closure when reading the Heart chapter. It was a 'GOD that's unfair and tragic! I hate the author!' kind of closure, but a closure nonetheless. But now, after the overemotional period is over I can finally see what you guys are saying.

Gaining a heart and having so much character development over more than 100 chapters of the manga and then suddenly dying is so... fricking unfair. God, all the unanswered questions and unsaid things that were left between them...!

I have read stories, manga and books where this kind of tragic event happens (and that's why even if this kind of thing bothers me, I'm now used to accepting those incomplete endings as actual endings

. Maybe that's why I felt the 'closure' when I first read the chapter).

BUT! We are talking about a shounen manga. A shounen manga which Kubo Tite, the closet cheese-filled romantic, writes/draws.

My point is: a mangaka wouldn't waste so many pages and so many (entire) chapters without some purpose. He can't just throw away all of his hard work, character development and excellent characters!

Shounen is all about justice. How in hell is this fair for Ulquiorra? He fricking gained a heart because of a female protagonist! He was saved from his hollowness and was redeemed because of this!

So, NO. I can't feel or even think chapter 353 and 354 were their final meeting or some sort of closure.

But if for some reason it is, then Kubo will be taking a very, very dark road. A road where reality happens and good persons from every side die. Including popular protagonists (coughHitsugayacough).

But I can't see this happening yet, and probably, it will never will

. Kubo loves his characters too much. He can't just kill them randomly (<--another reason why Ulquiorra is coming back too).

Yes and no. On some part, if by the 'good guys' side' you mean 'shinigami side' then YES, I WILL LOSE INTEREST. Kubo, you already have 40+ 'good guys' on that side, will you make Ulquiorra into one of the 'nameless good guys' too? Please, DON'T. Besides, I doubt SS will accept Ulquiorra because of his background and the potential enemy within him.

But if by the 'good guys' side' you mean "the nakama's Orihime's side' then NO, I WON'T EVER LOSE INTEREST. If anything, it would make me more curious to see Ulquiorra's and Orihime's relationship as allies/nakama

I wouldn't say closure, but it was more like a milestone.

It brings up more questions than answers for me. The answers 353/354 gave were that Ulquiorra is personally interested in Orihime and it's finally clarified that it's got nothing to do with Aizen-sama (not that I believed it in the past anyways). Ulquiorra got what he longed for all this time, a heart. I wouldn't say he fully understands it, but at least he's grasped it in his hand, as he said.

To me, the white page with "kokoro ka" written on it is neither a question nor a statement. It was Ulquiorra wistfully contemplating the heart, something like 'hmmm, so this is a heart, eh". It's one of the pages that convinced me of Ulquiorra's...well...not-deadness. Because he still doesn't know what a heart really is, he's like a kid on his first day of school. The white-washed page and his splash page with the white hollow hole is a contrast to the blackness and despair of his cero and second release. It's why I think he's been purified and will come back as something else later.

And of course...where would one start with Orihime? Too many questions revolve around her inner feelings and the "changes" that had been happening on her. Maybe Ulquiorra meant she was actually falling in love with him? XDDDDD *fangirl moment*

Heck no. I wasn't one of those who liked the whole "Prisoner/Jailer" aspect. I don't even like the way people wrote it off as "Stockholm Syndrome". I guess it's because by the time I joined the fandom, which is around the first Ichigo/Ulquiorra battle, I've already seen that Ulquiorra has a gentleman side to him that he only shows to Orihime. Orihime is not IN LOVE with Ulquiorra, but as many have said already, she doesn't dislike him because he was courteous to her, and the only one who bothered to come see her on an HOURLY basis. I see it as more of a mutual respect rather than him being her jailer and she's not snapping at him only because she has "Stockholm Syndrome".

So...um, my answer to the question is. I don't see how their dynamic could change drastically if Ulquiorra decides to help the nakama. Ulquiorra would always be the ice-capped volcano he is. Except when he comes back, he and Orihime would be even closer than before, because they have a reason to open up to each other. It would create new and interesting dynamics in addition to the UST they already share. I can't wait to see it

That's actually really hard because of all the fandoms I've been in... ^_^;; Probably some combination of:

Van/Hitomi (Vision of Escaflowne)
Ruki/Ryo (Digimon Tamers)

UlquiHime's not on there because it's still sort of new to me. But it has staying power! ^_^

I wouldn't say closure but parts of their storyline got resolution. This is important because it established their connection (which is why I say resolution instead of closure.) I don't think it is the last we will see of him... he was left with various things unresolved so I think he will be back to resolve them. And, even if he never reappeared in person, I think that we would see flashes of him from Orihime. His memory would linger with her for a long time.

Oh heck no! It would make it even more awesome! The thing that I love in relationships and pairings is a sense of growth and closeness between the characters. Ulquiorra joining the good guy's side would provide so much opportunity for that that I would go nuts!
