Sure the interview makes some fans down and I don't blame them. We are in the fandom where twisted logic posts are everywhere and gets troll pretty often so upon reading those can make anyone down. But Japanese fans are still happy and say this is expected of Kubo. Since they are not acting as if IchiRuki is dead I wouldn't be so upset.

You are totally right Annie!! No reason to get upset! IchiRuki has a bond that can't be compared or denied by anyone. No other characters in Bleach can have what they have. I'm glad Tite Kubo-sama thinks this movie will draw in more bleach fans. I hope so too! Then he willl keep making more chapters! And who will draw them in? Ichigo and Rukia! More people will fall in love with them just like we already have. We all knew from the begining that the manga is not shoujo it's shonen. This is Kubo-sama's vision. So it's ok if we don't get a kiss or a chessy confession.It's not who they are. BUT I still want to see that face cupping scene and the "connection" speech from Ichi.

OMG , gone for one day and I miss all the fun, and I always seem to miss the trolls, oh well.

I know I’m late but, THANK YOU SO MUCH MEL FOR THE INTERVIEW.

I had fun reading Kubo thoughts on the movie and how much he was really involve in the movie. It shocked me to no end that he came up with the brother and sister characters, and that he even named them.

What do you think the bond is that these two have with each other?

It’s not friendship but it’s not an amorous feeling either. With these 2’s relationship, I think there is no other relationship like them in other works where despite both standing in a very close position with each other it is not romance (laughs) But in this year’s movie there is a scene where Ichigo says Rukia is his “Precious nakama” and I think that explains the of their relationship well.

I just love this part.

I believe that Kubo will not give all of his little secrets away, because where is the fun in guessing what is going to happen next if he spills the beans so soon. (even through we know what’s going to happen) I just can not wait to see what is going to happen next.

I believe there is more IchiRuki goodies in store for us!!

I have to admit, my initial reaction to this was simply because my emotions have a quicker reaction time than my logic. Once logic caught up, however, I realized there was nothing to freak out about. Ichigo and Rukia don't have (nor, I'm sure, ever will) a "ZOMG I LUV U SEX NOWZ!!" relationship, and furthermore their relationship is still building, hence the current "more than friends, less than lovers" stage.

Moreover, someone (sorry, I forget who) mentioned the Mulder/Scully dynamic on the X-Files. I would add the David/Maddie dynamic from Moonlighting (if anyone else here remembers that show). The UST between those two characters held everyone's interest. Once they got together, people stopped watching.

Now I'm not saying that Kubo is writing in fear of Moonlighting syndrome, and again, Bleach is not shoujo. But he's obviously aware of the obssession attention that Ichiruki brings. No author in their right mind would ruin that by saying whether or not the two characters are going to end up together romantically.

And that's my two cents. Back to lurking.

Anyways, Kubo's words are being so conservative so that we will be kept from expecting a romance themed story in his "shounen" work.. maybe he thinks "Oh, it's not yet time and it's too early for them to recognize the real pin-point of Bleach (which is Ichigo and Rukia's are the one and only THEME of Bleach), I will spoil them a lot if I will state something beyond the limitation of a shounen's genre" I think that's what he really is planning and thinking..

I'm planning to start a topic..(to lighten up the mood) Hope you cast your opinions in this idea that came in my Ichiruki mind.. XD

What if you are given the chance to be the author of Bleach (for at least one year.. It will cover up almost 36 chapters right?) What will you plan to do with the flow of story while keeping the Ichiruki pairing as a "shounen themed couple?" What things are you planning to improve (if there is)? and what are the scripts you want to make for Ichiruki conversations?

So, my first reaction upon reading this interview was that Kubo described the relationship between Ichigo and Rukia exactly like it is at this point in the story. You can't describe it with a word like friendship, but at the same time you can't describe them as lovers (yet). I don't see many people arguing that there relationship is full of romance at this point.

My second reaction was that there would be a lot of fanwanking about it, which obviously happened and will continue to happen. I really don't see any reason for being worried about ichiruki or letting those people get to you. I don't see a single word in that interview that leads me to beleive the ichiruki relationship has become stagnant. From the interview, it is obvious that Kubo sees this relationship as one of the more important points of the manga. I sincerely doubt he would let something that important become dormant. From the point the relationship is at right now, there is only so much room they can cover in that middle ground between friends and lovers before something gives.

Really, the reason I like ichiruki so much is because of how their relationship has progressed slowly. No offense to anyone who likes stuff like this, but crap like love at first site will get me to drop a manga immediately.

This post is probably just a sleepily-made summary of stuff people have already said, but I think it doesn't hurt to emphasize it some more.

Honestly, every thing that I've wanted to post has already been stated by other members. Simply put, IchiRuki is a Shonen not Shojo. Though, there's no hot kiss scenes, they set the ideal relationship to me. Despite the arguments, the punching, the kicking, the yelling, the insults, Ichigo and Rukia understand each other. They're relationship and trust builds, and they help each other with they're problems and their flaws. This, this is no fairytale, it's imperfect, but it's life, and that's is how life goes.

Now, to tsuki-hime san's question:

Hmmm does this mean from the very beginning? or from the current arc and the next 36? If it were from the beginning, I would obviously keep it shonen (B/C I LOVE ACTION SCENES!!!). I'd add slightly more IchiRuki thoughts around the arrancar arc. Such as Ichigo thinking about Rukia here and there, but not too often b/c that gives away something.
So it maybe look like this:
Beg/Mid of AA arc (before Rukia's comeback):
Ichi: *think* Hmm it's been months since I haven't seen Rukia. Heh, she's probably drawing more chappies. *thinks of Chappies* .
Keigo: ICHIGOOOOO! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT!?!?
Ichi: *punches Keigo* I'm eating! jeez...
Ok, so it's not that good, but it's a start to my ... midnight.. 2 AM.... yeah

If it were from the current chapters onward, then I'm not sure if I could change the shonen theme anyway. But I'd put slightly mor emphasis on IchiRuki interaction(more yelling at each other and most definitely more hot eye smex!.. oh and blushing... not a lot though.); as well as other pairings. *teehee spread the love!* Oh, and once the HM arc is completed, there's still the matter of the past... Like Ichigo finding out about Kaien, I've always wondered how that'll go down. And there's other things too--

OMG! I can't believe the number of pages I had to read when I woke up. And I missed the trolls? Noooooo, why was I sleeping! Lol

I have nothing to add to the great posts I've read, I'd just like to thank all of you, for all your indestructible faith in IchiRuki and your sense of humour (Mezzo, I loved reading you and your dialogs between Abe and Kubo ). If some of us were a little disappointed after reading the interview (I admit my first reaction was a little bit but just a few seconds later, I've recovered my mind ), I hope by reading all what we said here you're not disappointed anymore. Nothing has changed, we already knew what Kubo-sensei said in this interview. And as Annie said, he's just playing the "are they/aren't they" card. It's suspence my friends, just suspense and strategy, just a pure sadistic-marketing-strategy from Kubo-sensei.

Livia, by talking about Harry Potter as comparaison with Bleach, I'd like to say I never saw Ichigo as Harry and Rukia as Hermione. For me, if we really need to compare the pairings, they would be much more Ichigo as Ron and Rukia as Hermione (and I've always been a Ron/Hermione shipper ).

Sometimes, it's totally not fair for us... In less than 5 days, Japan would be able to see the movie, but we have to wait a whole year!!!!!
