Yesterday, Kubo-sensei said my ship has sunk and that I am drowning from my illusion that is IchiRuki. And now....now....the movie, which he enthusiastically said he helped produced, almost directed and said to be closest to the mnga is being promoted as the shippiest shounen movie ever made.

I'm confused as hell. :z

Seriously that whole interview is contradictory. Kubo is describing love and yet says it is not love.

However if you ask him about Ichigo and that other one's relationship he just says "There are more important aspects of their characters" Ouch! That really hurts. He can't even elaborate, yet he waxes poetic about IchiRuki every chance he gets.
That just doesn't make sense to me and I smell a rat <--having a love affair with this smiley.

Morita-san interprets Ichigo's feelings for Rukia the same way we do. If there is no love or no chance for love. I wonder why that is?

Actually I can quite picture the famous "ray of light" interview going something like this:
Kubo: ...She's like a ray of light to Ichigo, which makes the name really suit her.
Interviewer: ...
Kubo: Did I say... something wrong?
Interviewer: No, no, no! NOTHING AT ALL! *srcibbles furiously* Let's move on to the next question!
Inner mind of Interviewer: THANK YOU GOD! It's like... I won the freaking lottery! I'm SOOOOOOOO getting that promotion and a raise! F*CK YEAH!

You know the funny part...I read the interview to my mother

Me:
After coming up with the English subtitle "Fade to Black” they asked me to come up with the Japanese subtitle (laughs) So after carefully digesting the scenario I searched for some scenes that can be the key word or words that I can use, and found that in the plot, someone calling out someone’s name, especially in this story where Ichigo calling out Rukia’s name was a strong expression that even though no one else remembers you I do, and I found out it had an important meaning behind it. So that’s how I came up with the subtitle “Calling Out Your name”

Me: what does that sound like to you
Mom:...*didn't miss a beat*...sounds like he loves her HARD (meaning a lot)

Me: It’s not friendship but it’s not an amorous feeling either. With these 2’s relationship, I think there is no other relationship like them in other works where despite both standing in a very close position with each other it is not romance (laughs)

But in this year’s movie there is a scene where Ichigo says Rukia is his “Precious nakama” and I think that explains the of their relationship well.---

My mother: ----Wait Wait! Then why is the other team happy . It's not a romance that means Ichigo won't be with " her" either.

Me: They think it's canon because of confession.
Mom: o_O...wasn't he unconscious? Did he hear it? Ah shit... (I have been beating her in the head with Bleach and occasionally watches it with me. She's a Byakuya fan)

Me: when asked if he planned on making IchiRuki a couple he said: "I won't confirm or deny it" What does that sound like to you?
Mom: Ah shit... Like he plans on making them a couple. Otherwise he'd have just said no.
Me: That's what I said! You think so?
Mom: Yeah...if he wasn't there would be no need to say all that. He could simply say no.

I don't think KT wants to spoil the surprise and it's a movie. He's been dodging that question for years. If he never intended for them to get together in the end. Why doesn't he just say so? If indeed it wasn't a romance and not his intentions to create one. If he could say...

He never said they didn't love each other romantically, he said, they were not in a romantic relationship, which is true.

After all this schtick, Ichigo and Rukia's relationship is one that surpasses the romantic kind, as in, they don't even need to be in such a relationship and announce it to everyone, because not only is that not in their characters, its kind of an understood situation for everyone who watches or reads the series who understands what they have.

Of course as Kubo and numerous others have said, they themselves don't even know what they've got. But that only lends more evidence to it being special, because it transcends much of what are usually textbook relationships. I think Kubo is proud of that.
