I'm just back home after seeing the preview show today in Tokyo (the very first show!). I'm going to write a kind of short report now and add to it later with more info etc but it will take me a while to get my thoughts together.

I was lucky to score some tickets to it since the tickets were only available in the Gfantasy early stage sets. To get them you went in to a kind of lottery. Anyway basically the fans were put on the 2nd floor while the media and friends of the cast/crew and other VIP's were downstairs (there were lots of VIP seats free but we were put up the top anyway XD). The show started late, it was meant to start at 1pm but the doors didn't open until then.

When the musical finally started we had William telling us not to use mobile phones or take photo's etc. The set was pretty fancy compared to the first musical, it had three levels and the bottom floor was like a chessboard. There were human chess pieces there dressed in elegant Victorian style costumes. Eventually we heard the message from William again (the first time was a test??) and then the show began with a large thing covered in a red satin sheet and lots of people around wearing masks etc. The sheet was removed to reveal Ciel and we realised this was the scene where he meets Sebastian and makes the contract. Yukito fit nicely in the cage lol though he is quite taller than I expected. Sebastian appeared on the top level wearing a cape. If this was meant to be his demon form I was a bit disappointed that they didn't make him wear the boots XD Oh well he started singing and danced around a bit with the cape which was quite cool. A large sheet with the contract symbol projected on it fell from the ceiling. It looked pretty cool, it's obvious that they had more money this time.

Next we went to the Phantomhive mansion where Ciel was being dressed. Sebastian put these woolly boots on him and then the servants came in with a letter from the queen. Bard had a huge bazooka with him. The Bard actor was new. He was younger, better looking (I guess), thinner etc etc but I felt he wasn't as Bard as the first musical's Bard. If that makes sense. So the mission from the queen was involving some random killings in London. There was a switch to the shinigami world where the main cast of shinigami were hanging up their scythes for the day. The group was very entertaining especially Ronald and then Grell who showed up seeking attention but wasn't getting any. The same deaths were reported to them and they sang a shinigami/megane song lol. Their dancing reminded me of the Backstreet's Back dances LOL but it was much cooler of course

I can't remember right now exactly where this happened but Grell appeared wearing women's lingerie (looking fabulous lol Takuya has very feminine legs). She strutted around and sang a seductive song but of course when Sebastian showed up he wasn't real impressed xD

Abberline showed up and became acquainted with Hanks who was reporting, writing down everything. He followed Abberline for the rest of the show. The two of them bumped in to Ciel and Sebastian who then visited Undertaker. Sebastian sang another song here, not sure what to call the style of this song? There were waving feathers and flashy dancers etc. It was pretty funny and Undertaker really enjoyed it. After talking with him, (sorry I'm not going to go too much in to the plot because people are going to see it and I don't want to ruin everything, apart from that I need to see it again to be sure of everything as Japanese is not my native language and it's hard to keep up at times for someone like me... basically I want to confirm what exactly was said before saying it here and being wrong!), Sebastian and Ciel bumped in to Alan and Eric and a bit of a fight broke out. I think I will skimp on the details from now on and save it for later lol.

There were some large group fight scenes, usually Sebastian against the shinigami. Ronald was awesome with his lawn mower lol and Will's scythe looked really cool as did the ones owned by the original characters. Sebastian fought with cutlery, at one point I saw Ronald spit a fork that had been thrown at him out of his mouth, it was pretty funny, a lot was going on so I'm sure I missed some things but caught random stuff like that xD Eric left the main group and we saw the strange person going around kidnapping people, the person was revealed to be Druitt. He got down with a whip and then Eric showed up. It was revealed that they had been involved with each other but Druitt didn't really seem to get what he was dealing with (won't go in to details here yet).

It was announced that Druitt would have an opera. We had a 20 mins break and then we came back to darkness. We could hear Ciel groaning and it was easy to guess what was going on xD When the lights came on we saw him in the lovely Robin dress. It looked amazing. Grell appeared in a dress also, it was a little skanky but she pulled it off well lol. Alan then showed up in a dress which Grell wasn't too happy about XD. When arriving at the ball the set changed a bit and we had lovely curtains and a stage. A woman sang the opera, it was so lovely and she looked fantastic. She would run out and bend over so a creepy guy would pretend to wind her up and she would sing again. It was very Victorian and well done. The servants were watching along with Abberline and Hanks (also in dresses LOL). Druitt lurked and Ciel and Sebastian watched on also. There were some confrontations with Eric and Ciel was tied up etc.

The end was tragic of course but it was all done well. Like I said, I'm not going to go in to the plot at this early stage but the focus of the musical was basically the friendship between Alan and Eric and their pasts/similarities. They both sang quite a bit and were good performers. Fake snow? fell from the sky somewhere near the end, it looked really nice. Sebastian sang to Ciel in the end and carried him off to bed... (yeah he fell asleep, get your mind out of the gutter, it was fanservicey but not that fanservicey ). Everyone came out and did the shinigami dance together at the end, that was pretty awesome.

So yeah there were a ton of characters, a ton of songs and a lot to look at. I am a bit scattered at the moment but will write something coherent later, hopefully with a more correct and detailed timeline. None of the songs totally stood out to me. I did enjoy a number of them but the lyrics didn't seem as catchy as those of the first musical, then again I've only seen this once so far. There was a lot of comedy, Sebastian was often used this time as comic relief which was a bit surprising. I remember reading an article with Yuya saying that he felt a bit left out in the first musical when everyone was joking around so maybe they did it for that reason? He wasn't completely out of character but it did seem a bit odd. Like the last musical this one focused on the original characters a bit more than the regular cast. I didn't mind this but it seemed like we really didn't see much of characters like William and Ciel.

Yukito Nishii was good as Ciel (I prefer Shougo but meh can't be helped). He didn't have the best singing voice and didn't sing much. His role was quite small also so it was a bit hard to judge. He did the voice and mannerisms well though. Yuya was basically exactly the same as his Sebastian last time, not much to say there. The boy can surely sing and dance. The servants were basically the same except for Bard which I already mentioned. Druitt was great and got lots of laughs from me, Fujita Ray was a good choice for him I think. Ronald was really funky and cool, a great dancer. He had the lawnmower through Abberline's legs at one point which was rather amusing (it was a part of the dance while Abberline was wearing the dress). Eric and Alan both had great actors/singers. William was done well but I was a bit sad at the lack of screen-time he had since he is one of my favourite characters. Takuya as Grell was really the stand out again, when he was on stage things were just more fun and entertaining. There was a lot of Sebastian x Grell stuff and fanservice but all that aside, Takuya is just a great performer who really gets in to the role making him great to watch. Undertaker and Abblerine weren't around much this time but did their parts well... I'm probably forgetting people but there seemed to be so many characters... ah yeah, Hanks was really funny. Him and Abberline made a great comic duo.

So yeah lots of ramblings there, not very coherent. I hope it gives those of you who can't make it some idea of what went on but please check back later as I will do a better one I had a great time and look forward to seeing it again

Other things to note: Lau will be on the cover of volume 9 (it's mentioned in the free pamphlets given when entering).

My review which will be brief since spacecats got it pretty much covered XD:

This was like the first official one which was the 2nd show because of the preview show. We got given this pack of pamphlets in like a File, it has the Yana Comic and other stuff like the Lau pamphlet (which yeah as you can tell i am so happy he is on the next manga cover ROFL).

The show was packed out and it just seemed a lot nicer as in what they brought this time. It was a lot more British the props bar this fire hose that popped up now and again but bar that some of the detail like on this stage bit where Druitt held a chitty chitty bang bang styled opera show. The music was very British inspired this time compared to the last time which really impressed me, some of the songs especially Druitt was very Queen esked and like i said the Druitt opera bit was based on a famous British musical. There were pieces i have heard in traditional music as well but at the moment and even then my mind couldn't work out what it was

I wanted to get fake snowed on though because i love that in shows it makes it funnier for some reason. Chess bit at start was wierd.

Best bits for me:

- Grelle, Abberline, Sharpe hanks and Ciel in the dresses was HILARIOUS and most stuff they did
- Druitt when his whip got stuck
- The opening part
- The shinigami dance at the beginning and end
- All the fight scenes
- The bit where Finnian and that were diving over the table and climbing up stuff
- Everytime Ronald waved his mower around
- Some of under takers bits
- The whole duet between everyone
- Druitts song
