That doesn't mean Isshin couldn't have been the 10th captain 20 years ago.

Afterall, Rose was a captain for only 11 years, Urahara for 10, and all the rest were captains for less than a century total, which according to Shunsui is par for the course.

Which is why he actively acted against Aizen? (Defeating Grand Fisher; you can argue that was revenge/protectionism but it's suggested he was only capable of doing so with Urahara's help.) Additionally, prescribing to this theory in light of the former, suggests that Urahara is somehow the main villain (in that he helped Isshin.) Given the focus on the Turn Back the Clock series, it seems pretty unlikely that Urahara is the Big Bad.

Besides, considering how headstrong Ichigo is, why would it follow that he would pull a 180 like that because of his dad?

correction(?): like i said earlier, it was Unohana Retsu that said the 10th Squad Captain had died on duty, not Kyouraku Shunsui. BUT it's hard to tell though, since they it's said by Unohana in the Episodes and Shunsui says it in the Manga.

but like i said, this is Bleach, ne? check out Episode 206 and/or Ch -108

and in my opinion, though nothing much impedes it and your Theory seems a little plausible, it's rather less than likely to happen so.....i believe all points indicate that it's most likely to happen that Isshin was a Royal Guard member. again, opinions.

Ichigo's mom is not dead, she's a royal guard member imprisoned in the maggot's nest for leaving her post to have a relationship with a sub shinigami(isshin). She was forced out of her gigai when ichigo was attacked by GF and SS grabbed her. Next arc she escape with isshin and ichigo's help. No proof just a random theory

This is the manga forum, so it was shunsui, not Unohana who said it.

Also, you're just arguing that one scenario is just more likely than mine, it doesn't actually counter my scenario.

i just noticed something it seems like... that out of coincidence that rukia discovered ichigo .. that rukia was sent to the kurakara town... then byakuya come down with renji and try to take back rukia...

i rekon aizen had something to do with this... sending rukia down here knowing she would meet ichigo..and from the very start aizen was training ichigo thats what this all looks like everything thats happened with ichigo since the very first ep seem to be the act of aizen.. aizen is teaching him making him stronger n stronger

people were talking about ichigos mum being in the maggots nest or whatever but since we only know that her last seen was when he was protecting ichigo.. against grand fischer then imagine if she actually became.. a hollow or even a VL...but yeh just speculation

Unohana is Aizen's mom.

EDIT: didn't read completely the first post so now I am back. I have always had the sinking suspicion that among the top 4 there was another traitor. My top two picks are Ukitake and Unohana. The reason being ... That their names both begin with a "U"!!! ... J/k...

I think that If Ukitake is a traitor it has something to do with his illness and if Unohana is a traitor it's b/c there has to be someone who has trained Aizen and trained him well enough to be an excellent shinigami despite Yama-ji's watchful eye. Perhaps Unohana had a son before she came to serve with Yama-ji (She's the only captain to not have been raised out of the G13 academy). Perhaps she has set her son on the Royal Guard and the Soul King for exiling her to the Soul Society for some soon to be revealed slight.

Aizen specifically states that he (as center 46) made sure Byakuya and Renji were the ones to go get Rukia because they would be guaranteed not to kill her (and she wouldn't fight back against those 2).

Also, I don't see how Rukia's first real world assignment would have been chosen in any way by aizen.

SS King is really a bad guy due to being corrupt (so not really a king anymore but SS calls it that to hide the truth) and Royal Guards are keeping him in check due to the King being too powerful.

Aizen is being influenced by that guy and he plans to set himself free by using Aizen as a pawn. Aizen never did say he wants to kill the king (the bad guy) but we are under the conclusion he wants to because of planning to reach Royal dimension.

Maybe Old Yama doesn't know the real truth that SS King is corrupt/evil given Royal Guards (or the governing body) there never tells anyone including Old Yama. So, if a new guard is needed, they just asks for one from the Gotei (with the lie) its to protect the King.
