As a reminder, a few hours are left to vote. However, it's unlikely that right now, the two leadings in votes for both fanart and fanfic would get off their thrones, seeing the huge difference between them and the rest. I will still count, though Less than 13 hours left to vote, if you wish to do so

As for the actual chapter, well color me surprised, I guess this means Rukia was actually the first of the nakama to see the mask. Urahara is a possible source of information for the beginning stages of the hollow mask since the flashback comes from when Ichigo first turned into a hollow. The only witnesses were Urahara, Tessai, Jinta and Ururu.

Rukia did say 'from what I was told', so it's unlikely that she saw it. IMHO, the flashbacks are not Rukia's but a way for Kubo to point out at the evidence - Rukia didn't see them per se, but was told by someone that the stripes changed. I have no doubt that the only person who could possibly tell her that was Urahara. Byakuya could possibly tell her for the hollow that is inside of Ichigo, but he couldn't possibly tell her for the changing stripes - it's likely though, because it doesn't seem that she met up with Urahara before ch196 and the man in my heart speech - since well, what she tells Renji in ch198 and how Urahara treats Renji when he arrives later on.

It seems that she must’ve been in contact with him before chapter 214. Urahara and Yoruichi probably contacted Soul Society about Ulquiorra and Yamii coming to Karakura-chou. The picture Rukia draws of Ulquiorra and Yamii indicates that at least she got a thorough description of them.

Nah, Yamamoto was immediately alerted when Ulq and Yammy landed on the real world, in ch191. So, they must have seen what happened with Ichigo. I also believe strongly that the shinigami badge indicates to SS when Ichigo uses it to transform.
Also, for the record, 5 days passed - that's the time Inoue said she missed school in ch195.

And unless Renji was under specific instructions to make certain she stayed at the Urahara-shouten, which he ignored, I’ve always seen this as a sign that Byakuya trusts Ichigo with Rukia. His inital overprotective nature seemed to have more to do with Rukia being what Hisana wanted to protect, then about Rukia’s actual abilities. If Byakuya had any doubt in Rukia’s abilities as a shinigami, or was still trying to prevent her from fighting she would never have been allowed to go back to Karakura-chou and Ichigo, especially not since Byakuya saw his hollow mask, and briefly fought his hollow, and the second flashback comes from that fight.

I believe strongly that what Renji said was the truth: Rukia was the first to be chosen because she was the closest to Ichigo. I think that SS basically trusts Rukia to handle Ichigo - and they sent fighters with her, to make sure that they could protect Karakura. I also believe that they think she is very capable, BUT the reason why she was chosen first was definitely her bond with Ichigo.

The reason I believe Rukia saw the mask is that unless Shinji gave her a description there is no one there to describe the third mask. Urahara is fighting Wonderweiss in a different part of town. However, I do agree that she was told of the first two stages. Urahara for the first and Byakuya for the second, complete with drawings.

I'll admit that I didn't read all of the posts before I wrote mine, and have since then seen the theory that Rukia went to Urahara in chapter 237 and I agree that that makes more sense. It is never specified what she intends to do as she exits Ichigo's room, after letting Karin and Yuzu in, other than cooling her head down a bit. If she, as I believe, saw the mask it is possible she went to Urahara for more information, thus finding out about the first stage after the second, provided by Nii-sama, and the third, what she herself witnessed. Maybe I should go back and edit my post.

I believe that as well, I simply meant that Byakuya could, if he had less faith in Rukia try to overrule that decision the same way as he managed to keep her out of a seat. Even if he wasn't able to stop Rukia from going back to Karakura-chou, he could've had opinons about where she stays. Nevertheless, I do admit that Soul Society would probably want her to stay as close to Ichigo as possible.

I realize that I made it seem as if Byakuya could've prevented Rukia from going back to Karakura-chou, and I have to admit as I reread what I wrote that I'm giving Nii-sama too much power. My point was that Nii-sama isn't as adverse to Ichigo and his involvement with Rukia as many seem to believe, and that informing her of the hollow, not making Renji haver her stay at the Urahara-shouten, and allowing her to go to Hueco Mundo proves that he's starting to see Rukia the person rather than Rukia the object.

Oh, I definitely agree that Byakuya acts like the big brother who knows perfectly that Ichigo is stealing his cute sister, yet is forced to admit that he's the best choice He's not against them, but he's making sure to piss off Ichigo every time he can, just because he has to have some sort of revenge

I think it was Kylara who suggested this while chatting on MSN [or maybe itr was S.A.?], that Byakuya must have asked Rukia if it was ok with her, even though Ichigo had that mask. I can see it happening, but it's just pure speculation actually.

It's quite telling that SS aknowledges the bond between Ichigo and Rukia like that. I find it rather interesting that all the good guys aknowledge the IchiRuki bond, yet all the bad guys seem to miss it.

it's moving on our part to witness and know, that for rukia, how any form of feelings connected with fear are erased with worry and care for ichigo esp in the latest chapters

how those close to them acknowledge their bond and respect their privacy and how they are naturally drawn to eachother if not in this life than in other lifetimes.

I have been meaning to post my thoughts on the chapter, but i've been too 'high' lately to do so. This is going to be incoherent rambling, but here goes anyway. I'm so pleased with this chapter, once again, Kubo-sama pulled out all the stops. He did not focus so much on Ichigo's mask but the boy behind it, and also the girl who has always put her unwavering faith and love in him. The moment Rukia chose to stand and go to Ichigo despite her injuries. she put Ichigo in front of her own needs, in my eyes it was selfless act I really can't find the words to express it. nedless to say it is one of the reasons i love her so.

Even if he had the mask, and despite everything he has been through, for her to not turn away, Ichigo will need this at the end. no matter HOW much he seeks to distance himself from Rukia, and the others. He will need this, and he will need her. because I don't know if even at this point anybody will be able to bring him back from this except himself, not even Rukia. What has been made clear to me is that she will serve as a crutch, but at this point that's all she can do for him.

I agree with this completely, and after the ss arc I believe this. He does know that Ichigo has rukia's heart and Rukia has Ichigo's. He has resigned himself to this fact nor does hate Ichigo for this either, even though he never says anything about it, nor does he let on about this fact. In fact he respects Ichigo, even though he won't ever let on. So he'll let Rukia and Ichigo continue as they are because he knows that he can no longer keep Rukia on a 'leash'
