In terms a video game nerd would understand - the regen from Ichigonator gave Ichigo his full HP back, but didn't also restore his MP like he would have if Orihime healed him. He only had enough for a Thunder level GT (as opposed to Thundara or Thundaga) and once he used that against Yammy his MP went to zero so he can't use special techniques now. At least that's how I understand it.

Or, alternate theory...

In FFVII terminology, he is now suffering from Sadness and his Limit Breaks won't charge.

I think his problems using his hollow are psychological, not physical.

But a great analogy!
