Yes he was in Karakura even in the manga. He simply vanished after that.
Assuming there is another person working for Aizen in the SS (how did he knew Yamamoto was going to make a fake Karakura? And how he knew the exact moment when Orihime was passing through that dimension to go back to Earth?), I wouldn't be surprise if it is Choujirou.
Not to mention that, if something was to happen to Yamamoto, maybe Choujirou will be the new leader of the Gotei 13 until a new Captain is chosen to the 1st division...

The only lieutenant that is not in KK nor in HM is Nanao... my theory is that she is interrogating Shawlong & co., the only Arrancar who made to the SS after being purified

I know Starrk should be the star of those chapters, but Shunsui (who was always forgettable in my eyes) is simply overshadowing him. I am loving his "OOC" side!

yeah Ukitake's reasoning is that of a nit picker. I would have liked it
if he said that, he thinks he can defeat stark faster than shunsui.
would have been cool to see a competitive nature between shunsui and ukitake. anyway ww and superchunky are puzzling. I would laugh if superchunky is WW's real zanpakutou like lili was to stark!
