Yusuke Urameshi is a street-brawling delinquent with a tough guy approach to everything. Yusuke's mother Atsuko, an alcoholic, had him at the age of 14 and shows little interest in raising her son. He has a reserved seat in the guidance counselor's office, and numerous other delinquents in the city are trying to take him on. Yusuke is pretty fed up with life.

However, no one expects a sudden act of heroism on his part: he dies trying to save a little boy from a speeding car. In fact, when he arrives in the afterlife, he is informed that no one was expecting him to die that way, and were not prepared for his arrival.

After numerous tests to gauge his worth, Yusuke is eventually revived, and is assigned to work for the Spirit Realm as a detective investigating demonic cases in the human world. He comes into spiritual abilities of his own, and enlists the help of numerous friends from Reikai (spirit world), Makai (demon world, translated in the English manga as the Demon Plane) and Ningenkai (human world) to aid him in his cases, and fight off demons and humans seeking to usurp and rule over all three worlds.

Kurama has quite a few badass techniques though....the sinning tree, the giant cherry blossom tree he used against Shigure, i mean....Really......

If its not uncut, a few episodes just dont make sense.......like in the episode where Yusuke found that guy in the dark at genkai's house....they edited out her cigarette so he just found him by "magic" or something....Wtf..

well in the edited version when kurama killed Gourmet, they edited out his bottom jaw, so Toguro's head was just floating....In the uncut they dont have to screw with the animation so its higher quality :D

When did you all start watching YYH?

I started when AS had the first 8 episodes in a marathon (end of 2001). I thought it was great and watched every episode I could, then just bought the DVD's which were further ahead of AS.

I started when AS started showing them....They showed all the way to the end of maze castle I believe....then i watched it on Toonami and felt cheated....So me and two friends decided to take turns buying the uncut DVDs so we could see them all!

Mine is when Yusuke is doing the preview for episode 50 (I think it's 50) and they show they episode title (only time they do it) and the next episode is called "Genkai's Death" or something like that.

Althought it wasn't sad, the last scene with Yusuke and Keiko was really touching (most romantic kiss ever).

And roy mustang stood over his grave and said "its raining" Hawkeye says "What its not r-" Then she notices the tear running down his cheek and he says "No. its raining." and she says "it certainly is......"
You'd have to see it lol

The best Yusuke keiko moment was when he was about to leave for demon world....Shes going upstais asfter he proposed and shes upset and he says
"Hey Keiko......You know I love you right?"
And she says
"Yeah yeah...Me too..."

I'd love to see a new season but there probably won't be one. The author has moved on to Hunter x Hunter and the YYH anime has been over for almost 10 years (in Japan at least).

Wuhu, finally finished this series so I'm ready to join now :D

It was a good series, but the last fight was a bit too short and a small disappointment is there at the end. I liked the Dark Tournament and Sensui's Arc but 3 Kings didn't have any good fights, besides the final fight which was awesome but too short.Nevertheless I'd recommend to every Shonen Fan.

Nah ofcourse not, Yusuke X Keiko was the perfect ending. I just hoped that Hiei would tell Yukina who her brother is and Kuwabara came really short in the last arc. I mean if Sensui's Arc was his last fighting appearance he should've gotten a Top Fight at the end (You should know Kuwabara was my fav char xD). But what I really missed, was the real purpose for Yusuke's fighting. He started like "Why am I fighting? Toguro and Sensui wanted to be killed by someone stronger". But then it ends. You don't know the reason why kept fighting till the end and yeah that's it. But it's still great.

Um.... I remember it was right after the Dark Tournament. Um, but still a little after I believe... I can remember the part when he fights those three -geeks (?). I remember one of them having the power to change shape--- hold on... That was after---- DANG! I'm getting mixed up here... I KNOW I saw Yusuke demon form and everything and they closed the 'portal' thing or whatever it was (yeah, my memory is BAD--- I seem to have Nnoitora's memory). The LAST part I remember reading was when he went to go see some lady- and he was comfronted by her two kids. Her husband wore glasses (I think) and he looked geeky or something (I know Yusuke said something negative)--- anyway, that is when the woman says/warns Yusuke that he has trouble ahead of him. On the outside of the woman house/home, these guys/this group heard what she said and commented that she was right... And it ends there.... I KNOW this is probably NOT helpful at all.... But this is all I could remember... And, since I haven't seen/read Yu Yu Hakusho in like--- MONTHS (maybe a year)-- my memory of who is who is really bad (except for Haoi, Yusuke and Kurabara- they're cool :D).

Well, when fighting Sensui, he has a hard time controlling his demon energy, but that just results in him missing Sensui with his spirit gun. When Sensui was killed however, it wasn't Yusuke at the wheel if you know what I mean. His ancestor took control of his body and orchestrated the change...He can't change at will but he doesn't have alot of trouble controlling it. Its also not unreasonable to assume his ancestor is the only one who could posses him...............Thats probably makes no sense :p

YYH is one of my all-time favorite anime. I believe this is the second anime I was addicted to (the first one was B't X. I hope someone knows this anime... :p). It reminds me of my childhood days.

YYH was such a huge success in our country. I remember I was fighting and debating with some of my classmates who's hotter: Yusuke, Hiei or Kurama (unfortunately, we didn't use this names that time! Blame the dubbers of my country. They changed their names! :yell). I am a true Karasu fan but since Karasu is not included in the debate, I go for Youko Kurama. :p

I grew up with those names! Eugene is Yusuke, Vincent is Hiei, Dennis is Kurama (and by the way, they thought Kurama was a girl so at the first two show-ups of Kurama, he was named Denise), Alfred is Kuwabara, Jenny is Keiko, Charlene is Botan, Jericho is Koenma and so forth... *sigh*

Yeah, the translation in particular was wonderful. One of the few dubs that didn't make the dialogue seemed forced and awkward. Yusuke calling out Sensui and saying he didn't have the stones to kill him in particular I thought was a good line :D

i started reading the manga on onemanga the other day, and now I have to read the whole series, the difference in translation, and how dumbed down the english version is is just that much:sweat xD

The translation on the funimation subtitles is much truer to the original script. I hesitate to say the english script was "dumbed down," It would be more proper to say it was altered to better suit a casual american audience.

The logic was "More cussing and slang= greater compatiability with the kids who weren't hardcore anime fans." Unfortunately, they're right on the money there. Even among younger kids (I'd say aged 12-15 or 16) who DO consider themselves hardcore anime fans, the general belief they hold is that the only reason anime is "more adult" is because of the cussing and sexuality.

That's the audience they were targeting with the YYH dub. The crowd that legitimately believes that even series as deep and complex as "Fullmetal Alchemist" would be less mature if all the cussing were blipped out.

That aside, I admit I'm very fond of both the original japanese, the manga, and the English dub. Each is so vastly different yet utterly charming that it's like watching a completely different series each time. ^_^

The dub may be of divine quality but I refuse to ever watch a dubbed series if I can watch it the way it was normally meant. But as far as i know funimation also did a great job with the subs on the DVD.

Strangely, I've never heard anyone speak ill of YYH's dub. It's the only dub in existance that i can say that about (aside from Cowboy Bebop, but even that one has a few trolls who like to bash its dub just to be different. ^^)
