this kind of polygamy? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygamy
Tatsuki- Yea, I think we almost have it in the US, but i feel as if, especially with the current president, that has started to change
It even bugs me when Bush said God wanted him to be President
granted he is known to say stupid crap, but that is annoying, leave God and religion out of politics
and yea, the gay-marriage issue is only illegal for religious pruposes, and it angers me
I can't stand when the only reason for something is religion, this also goes for pro-something laws, but i can't think of an example at the moment
religious laws should only be effective on the grounds owned by that church

A world without religion, our ancient ancestors would not have made the foundation and laying the grounds to our traditions, culture, values and the things we believe in. Things we celebrate yearly to paying back the respect to them.
Same with the Native Americans who want to keep their traditions, and culture but they were almost wiped out completely. Think how they feel? Just something so small, but important that they value. Something they hold dearly.
The main problem with religion is hatred because of other people's culture, traditions and values towards another. But the good side of religion is teaches you how to respect other people around you. Regardless where the person is from, and what they believe in, you should respect them.
an example from my country.
marriage is considered something religious, and fall under religious authority. as such there are no mixed marriage between religions (most religions dont allow such marriage without a conversion or specific rules) made in israel BUT...
all marriage done abroad are also legitimite by the law so its very popular for couples to go to cypres make a civil marriage there and come home with all the benefits of a married couple. that include same sex marriage.
the law itself dosnt say that there shouldnt be mix marriage or same sex marriage but that marriage (and divorces or funerals) fall under religious control, and to each his own religion. so if for example i am a member of religion X and my partner is religion Y and we want to marry and her religion dosnt allow it so we can still have my religion wedding.
look at this that way, you cant force the priest to break his religion laws and force him to marry someone.

I don't have a religion, but that doesn't mean I don't respect other religion. For my mom, religion is a way of living. I like the Buddhist religion best because it's so simple. If only other religious people could at least learn a little bit from Buddhists.
Religion can be used as a tool for war. That's when you abuse religion. Besides, what is religion but a way of living? Religion should never be bloody or harmful to living beings.

while i know where you are coming from, most people make this mistake often
when i talk about religion i refer usually to the judeo-christan religions, and they teach anything but tolerance for your fellow man...hatred of homosexuals, oppression of women and all these other backward beliefs are a direct result of the religion.
i am a full atheist when talking of the "God" or "Allah" in islam, christianity and judaism.
when it comes to an overall supreme being, grand design or whatever i am an agnostic. i live my life as if there was no god however.
