First of all, if this isn't okay with the moderators/admins, feel free to delete the post. I would understand.
This is something which is never really looked into, because "Drugs are bad, hmkay", but I think governments should.
Current Drug Policies:
-Mostly drugs are forbidden
-The Netherlands, North Korea and some parts of America legalized soft drugs (marijuana & hasj)
-Portugal legalized everything
In my opinion all drugs should be legalized.
Currently governments are investing lots of money in their wars on drugs, but failing all over the world.
When legalized, governments could earn money of drugs instead, through either taxes or by collecting the entire profit.
Currently the biggest danger of drugs is that they can be altered or 'filthy' (meaning they're mixed with something else to make more money)
When drugs are sold through medical instances, which are controlled by the government, drugs are always 'safe'.
Currently, when you know a guy, all you have to do is call him are look him up to get 'your fix'. This is a real simple task and because you usually have some form of a personal connection to the person a small step.
When sold from a medical instance you have to go there, talk to a stranger and you're out to the public as a user. This is a way bigger step to take, especially the first time.
Currently people almost ignore the fact drugs exist. This is probably to protect people from using, but clearly this isn't working. People are kept blind or get told lies about the damage a drug does. People don't believe the lies and don't here the truth, therefor aren't well informed.
When legalized, people will be honest more easily and well informed. Therefor it's a choice you make based on the dangers and you're well aware of the risks.
Lastly, Portugal is a great example. They took the step no other country dares to make. They experienced severe drug problems and decided to legalize all drugs. After doing this rates of overdoses, use and aids from filthy needles all dropped. Therefor proving the point that it's a working system.
