A nameless and highly secretive organization has created an order of superhuman warriors to protect humans from the Yoma. These warriors have come to be popularly known as Claymores, after the immense claymores they wield. Villages being attacked by Yoma hire Claymores to kill the Yoma for a large fee.

This organization creates the Claymores by implanting Yoma flesh and blood into humans, creating hybrids that are more powerful than the original Yoma, in addition to their weapons training and possibly greater intelligence. A Claymore's standard abilities include overall enhanced physical prowess (most noticeably, strength), faster healing, limited shape modification and the ability to detect other demons and hybrids. They all wear the same armor and use large claymore swords that normal humans lack the strength to wield, and are characterized by their silver eyes and hair. However, the Yoma powers of each Claymore will increase over time until the Claymore loses all humanity and becomes a powerful, highly intelligent, and incredibly bloodthirsty Yoma called an Awakened. They also constantly run the risk of speeding up their transformations into Yomas if they overuse their powers. A good Claymore will ask a friend (usually a fellow Claymore) to kill them if they sense they are "Awakening" so they would not become a Yoma.

The secret organization is contacted by the town council about Yoma killings and will then send a Claymore to kill the demons, although not every hybrid does so willingly. Upon a successful kill, it then sends an agent to charge a large fee for its services. A town that fails to pay will never receive further assistance and will be left at the mercy of the Yoma. It has been insinuated that the organization themselves send Yoma to the towns that could not pay. The organization is often strict and harsh; hybrids who break the rules (for example, by killing a human, even accidentally or to protect others) will be hunted down by their fellow hybrids. Claymores who cause trouble or Claymores suspected to be on the verge of Awakening will be sent on suicide missions without their knowledge. Various characters throughout the series suspect the organization of being much more sinister than it appears.

Despite saving humans on a regular basis, Claymores are often alienated from and feared by humans due to their incredible powers, their relation to Yomas, and generally aloof attitudes. Humans will often call them "silver-eyed witches" or "monsters". Surviving family members of a Yoma's masquerade are often banished from villages for fear that they might be Yoma too. Females who suffer this fate are often forced to become Claymores to survive. Claymores often live unhappy, lonely lives due to their solitary lifestyle and the knowledge that they will eventually die or become monsters. Presumably from one or more of their Yoma blood, their training, and their harsh lives, many Claymores are generally serious and at least outwardly cold. Others become hot-tempered and easily angered, while some other Claymores develop an incredible thirst for blood and become bloodthirsty killers who enjoy taking life, more savage than the Yoma they hunt. Almost all of them avoid any sort of companionship with humans.

The story of Claymore follows the adventures of the Claymore warrior Clare. The plot follows her as she fights Yoma and struggles to hold on to her humanity. Starting in the 3rd volume, there is a flashback to her childhood on how she was 'adopted' by the Claymore Teresa. After Teresa rebels against the organization and is subsequently killed, Clare volunteers to become a Claymore using Teresa's flesh in order to take revenge on the Awakened who killed her. With determination and her human friend Raki by her side, Clare overcomes her low demonic power by honing the skills she inherited from Teresa. As the series progresses, she becomes a stronger and stronger fighter, gradually earning the respect of strong allies and coming in conflict with the shadowy organization, the top Claymores who support them, and many powerful Awakened.

Well, by episode 8, the anime had already used up 5 volumes of manga. I think that they're moving WAAAY too fast. I love the anime, but i want better pacing. They'll overtake the manga and we'll get fillers before too long if they're not careful.

Am happy that the gore and blood levels were not toned down seeing Priscilla’s first appearance had gotten me worried I had speculated they would use shadows or guise of darkness to tone down the graphic scenes. But they haven’t even if I try to find fault with anime I cant . I personally think anime has lived up and done justice to the manga till this point .

The only complaint I have is the kiss and Raki not crushing family jewels with his Kick of Doom . Other than that zilch

Yeah the Claymore anime follows suite of the manga and is divided into mini arcs . I skipped 3 weeks of Claymore to watch 9,10,11 together . I may do it even for ep 12

Yeah the manga is something there is slightly more gore and blood in it .

Yeah the storyline gets complicated with influx of new chracter and more importantly names . I too was very confused when I read the manga but after reading it twice I got the hang of names

There are two seasons in the manga . First season deals with Clare honing her awakened powers to the max and disappearing. Second season just started deal more with Abyssal Ones

I'd have to say Isley for now. Just like how he comes out so calm and friendly..but yet he is supposed to be the bad guy. At least that is what we're ment to think. I don't know..for me he seems friendly at first at least. Thankfully he's not the kind of character to go away too fast. Sort of like Aizen I hope.

Same Here : ) Isley has a certain chraishma or aura too him . Though he is one of the main antagonists you cant bring yourself hate him . Also their is a certain elegance with which he handles people form Priscilla to Raki

Yeah Teresa is a well rounded character her gradual change is clearly visible . Clare makes her more human . Due to Clare the sarcastic smile turns into a natural one . Raki has taken the role of chibi Clare in the present.

I do understand Clare’s guilt the old Teresa would have never hesitated to kill Priscilla in the first place (Town) Also the outcome of Teresa’s Vs Clare did leave a bitter taste in the mouth . Even with Teresa releasing 10 % yoki she had the upper hand. The only silver lining about Teresa’s death is because she was killed in her prime, she was in a way immortalized.

Teresa is the measuring stick for Clare not Priscilla

I actually like Raki well in terms of shonen characterization Raki is the dumb sister of the hero who and in this case is a she : D Jokes Aside Raki is the person who is keeping Clare in touch with humanity not letting vengeance take over her Sanity

Firstly thank you for joining and yeah Claymore is the best of the shonen picks in the ongoing series. I used the word best instead of better as quite frankly there is not much competition in the first place.

After seeing Pricilla entry I got a little worried as the gore and blood was toned down or the scene was guised in shadow and darkness . But after seeing the fab four in combat those apprehensions are non existent . the only qualm if I can find is the BGM has not been used well in ep 11/12 as I would have liked . As its Claymore I expect the best from the anime team

@Geta Boshi: Ha, I haven't read any of your favorite all time shounen series. I'm more into seinen, so I don't usually care as much about shounen. Claymore is likely my favorite at the moment because it contains more mature elements than the typical shounen.

I'm also holding judgement before declaring it my all time favorite, though I'm not doubting that it will have a great ending. Claymore has caught my interest because it just seems to get better as it goes along, after all.

Oh, you're talking about the anime. I was thinking about the manga.

...I think the anime will likely end on a bad note, unless Madhouse stops in the middle of the series and finishes Claymore after the manga ends.

Good episode. I knew somewhat what was going to happen though. But this series I can still enjoy watching even after reading manga. Which I couldn't with Death Note. Just didn't "work out" with DN.

Anyone else think her training with Irene will come into good later on? I don't mean the arm she got off her but thinking more the training of her own arm. I guess being able to fight with both arms is good if you were to get hurt in one. And possibility to dual-wield good. I was thinking the exact same thing while watching ep13. also you know the thing they put their swords in...um...the thing on their back. well i noticed it's actually designed for 2 swords...or at least they can put their swords back on either side. so yeah may her ambidexterity will come in handy later on.

Just read the Extra Scene. It makes me wonder if Teresa would have completely overwhelmed Priscilla if Priscilla had Awakened sooner. Oh well, the series wouldn't have much of a plot if Teresa had won.

We have a sword discussion thread on AS this is a clyamore so the claymores used in the series are broadswords thats what we think .

A normal claymore weighs 5.5 lb is 55 inches in length and 42 inch blade . But does Clare or any others use a normal claymore seems like the Broadsword variety of Claymore seeing the length and size. My knowledge is extremly limited in Medieval Weaponery so please do clarify on Clare's Claymore . The one in the picture is a standard Claymore and it does not match Claymores used

Its not that bad its fun to draw comparisons between anime and manga. Also once anime gets over manga is the only way to go. The manga is almost Bimonthly due to its 38-39 pages per chapter .

Its left up to you but I believe pictures look better animated

Phew so I finally caught up with the manga! I just read the extra scene with Teresa. ^_^ Simply amazing stuff. I definitely like it more than Bleach and Naruto at the moment.

I never liked Ophelia I found her rabid and retarded right from the start . But Priscilla is different I used to hate her for Teresa

Seeing her interaction with Raki and general behavior my views on her changed . She had been portrayed as a psychopath in Teresa Arc but she was shown in different light a humane light . After that I cant hate her I dislike her but not hate her .She can be best described as a child with a gun/sword no idea what she is doing

Yup Claymore is monthly and as far as I know it always has been.
However, according to some rumours it is going to become a weekly manga in not too long.

And even though I hate waiting a whole month for a new chapter, I don't like the idea of it being published weekly because it would mean that the quality and length would decrease drastically. >_>

I think maybe it's just missunderstood since it's currently in weekly shounen(?). It's only there because they stopped publishing the monthly one I think. And they will continue in a new monthly magazine in 4-5 months or so. That's how I understood it from a post I did earlier with the dates for the chapters.

I'd like to discuss about Teresa after reading the Extra scene.
Before that, I'm wondering why Teresa did not sense what Priscilla was about to do, since she is suppose to have that unparalled ability to sense yoki energy right? If not, i would think she would have the reaction speed. Maybe cause it was too shocking and she let her guard down? :headscratch

Okay, 10% Teresa pwned 70%++ Priscilla. I understand that Priscilla has the latent potential to surpass Teresa, and that latent potential was unleashed when she awakened. What i'm wondering is, this latent potential to surpass Teresa, does that only apply to Claymore Teresa, or Awakened Teresa as well. When I mean awakened i mean fully awakened and not Teresa using her yoma powers.

The Extra Scene makes it even more clear how powerful Teresa is. 10% defeated an awakened former no.1 (no.2) like a walk in the park. She also twisted the arm off even without any yoma powers. I mean like whoa. How would you rate Teresa's power to the Abyssal Ones? Both as a Claymore who unleashes her yoma powers and as an Awakened? Do you think she can defeat Isley, Riful or Luceila as a Claymore with let's say 70++% yoma power? I think as an Awakened she'd definately be able to. I'd place Awakened Teresa somewhere around Priscilla's level, and we know what Riful said about Priscilla's power. I'd also say that 70% Teresa would be able to defeat them as well. Just by going on the recent Extra Scene. The only reason Rosemary became no. 2 was because Teresa around. So Awakened Rosemary shouldn't be that far of in terms of power from The Abyssal Ones. Take note, Teresa only used 10%, and i'm talking about 70% power.

The only thing here is Priscilla. Claymore Priscilla would eventually surpass Teresa, that much was indicated. How about in the awakened state? Do you think Awakened Teresa would be stronger or still weaker. Key point is does latent potential only applies to claymore abilities or the strength of the yoma inside a claymore.

Clare uses precision Yoki detection to predict and evade attacks, while Galatea just manipulates opponents' Yoki to force them to miss. Not quite the same. Clare's method seems better in the long run, as it becomes more effective the stronger her opponent is, while Galatea's Yoki manipulation is weak and gets less effective as her enemies get stronger.

Death of a certain someone in Claymore:

Yeah, her death came just so very unprepared;
I thought nothing could kill her so easily and I especially didn´t want
that this certain newbie killed her. As I watched the episode I thought
that she´s way too powerful for her because she didn´t even release
a bit of her yoma powers at first, but Priscilla didn´t give up and
used a lame trick imo: "Please kill me....sob sob sob".
Teresa became more good-natured and amenable when she took
care for Claire and that is why she hesitated and felt pity for Priscilla,
otherwise she´d have definitely killed her immediately.
Oh, I cannot say how much I despise Priscilla for killing Teresa. >_>

(is there anything else to come? THe organization? Why they treat
the Claymores so badly, use them for their greater good?). Priscilla
is as powerful as an Abyssal Being, an awakened number one Claymore,
is she? Is she more powerful than Riful, actually? :headscratch)
As far as the manga is concerned, Claire could take on/ defeat
a single digit, can´t she? (don´t know if she could defeat the twins though...?).
But I think it´s still a long way for her to go, though she could flee
from this abyssal being from the south.
I´m also curious about Raki; I even suspect him to become a male
Claymore, because he fought so much with Riful and he wants so
desperately to protect Claire and therefore needs
fighting skills/ power.

Remember how Irene said that she felt two immense powers, one being far stronger than the other, when Priscilla and Teresa were fighting each other? My theory is that Teresa's was the greater one, and that the author meant to mislead us by having Priscilla "beat" Teresa. Next, the Organization bastards were talking about how the experiment of putting Teresa's flesh into a girl (Clare) turned out to be a mistake, but I'm guessing that it isn't really and that Clare can fully realize Teresa's potential by Awakening. Then, since Teresa's power is greater than Priscilla's, Clare would be stronger than Priscilla in an Awakened state.

However, then the question becomes: How does Clare fully Awaken without losing control? This would be where Raki would come in, I'm guessing (power of love, or something). Of course, this could easily all be wrong and Clare could be able to win just be using good ol' shounen determination.

Well, it was more or less obvious that Teresa
would have to die, because of her betrayal; she would have been hunted for an eternity until she was killed, but the way how she was killed and especially that it was Priscilla out of all Claymores who were ordered to kill her, was unexpected, especially after Teresa clearly showed that she can defeat, kill Priscilla.
The way Priscilla killed Teresa was just so lame and wrong for her to die. It came so unexpected:
"woosh, and her head was cut off" -_____-
And of all people chasing Teresa it must have been Priscilla. +ugh+ :mad:

Remember how Irene said that she felt two immense powers, one being far stronger than the other, when Priscilla and Teresa were fighting each other? My theory is that Teresa's was the greater one, and that the author meant to mislead us by having Priscilla "beat" Teresa. Next, the Organization bastards were talking about how the experiment of putting Teresa's flesh into a girl (Clare) turned out to be a mistake, but I'm guessing that it isn't really and that Clare can fully realize Teresa's potential by Awakening. Then, since Teresa's power is greater than Priscilla's, Clare would be stronger than Priscilla in an Awakened state.

However, then the question becomes: How does Clare fully Awaken without losing control? This would be where Raki would come in, I'm guessing (power of love, or something). Of course, this could easily all be wrong and Clare could be able to win just be using good ol' shounen determination.

Mhm, yes, a good theory; I want to add: Claire managed to only let her feet and arms awaken; she kept control over herself, but she needed Jeane to retrieve her back.
Maybe she´ll be able to improve in letting just her limbs awaken.
I also think that Raki will play a bigger role, because in the beginning he was also able to prevent Claire from fully awakening.

i can only translate a little bit of the text which says something about Miria's past.
My guess is that they're gonna show Miria's encounter with Ophelia and how she almost awakened. That or something else we've not seen, much like Teresa's special chapter.

Couldn't get much sleep tonight so decided to check out the new RAW. I don't know too much japanese so couldn't get too much out of it. It seemed like an average episode. I'll do rest in spoiler since it will be mix of anime/manga.

Seems like they have changed some scenes. They skipped Clare and Flora testing each other which I was looking forward to. At least I got to see lots of my favorite bad guy :p BUT they changed the scene there too.

And wow, we're getting close to fillers or a long pause I think. While checking the difference from anime/manga I saw how far the anime actually have gotten. Soon at the end.

First I would guess it just takes some extra time to do the translation since it was a lot of talking. BUT doubt it would take this long so I assume the group just lives in a timezone where they just couldn't get it out before they needed sleep :rolleyes: Anyway, should be right around the corner I guess.

Well, as it says..its a speed sub :p I don't know much japanese so can't really tell you how the overall translation is. Only watched a few minutes really but figured I could post something. Of course it works ok to get an overall feel for the episode but seeing I've only watched Eclipse so far it won't feel right either way for me. Leaving for the weekend so just wanted to get this checked out before I leave.

Not sure when the episode list was updated last but now it seems it's up to episode 26. I only saw up to episode 23 or 24 earlier. Not saying it will save the anime compared to the manga but at least it's not done yet.
