With how little we know about the technique, and nearly nothing having been confirmed about it directly it is still vague at best the actual mechanics at play.

The first theory seems to be the nature of Ichigo's power is solely responsible for his power loss, making it more of a hibernation than a true loss.

The second theory is that Getsuga was summoned into the phsyical world taking over Ichigo's form.

It also begs the question where along shinigami progression having an external fusion with your zan lies, as it would appear to be the precipe for one's "final" technique.

I've always felt that FGT never forced the user to lose their powers completely, but rather it drains them of all their spirit energy. I feel that if one uses the technique it would take them many years to fully recover from it. Making it an ability that should only be used as a last resort.

Obviously, I think FGT is unique to Ichigo and possibly Isshin. However, I think some Shinigami possess a similar technique that has severe consequences when using the technique. It would also require immense amounts of training, something that most captains have not obtained yet (meaning very few individuals have reached that level).


I wouldn't be surprised if the members of the Royal Guard have a similar ability.
