Renji, well especially since Furato posted the Rukia RadioKon interview, flirts like your average 2nd school boy who picks on a girl because he likes her, well previously, he seems a lot more considerate and at times gentle with her. Like chapter 238...he really should have been comforting Ichigo (XD), but instead he puts his arms around Rukia to gently lead to soul society because he knows that she wanted to help rescue her friend. Still no forgiveness for leaving that out of the anime :mad:. A very romantic gesture. Can you imagine any other character doing that for Rukia? :yell

And Rukia, I love that "fukataichou dono" stuff, I know she was teasing but it did border on flirting, especially since she says that he seems to be worried about her.

Oh yea, he had grown in their relationship. This doesnt only apply to Renji, but both of them. You can sorta see the compatibility in them after SS arc. Tag teaming, planning night escapades (yes, i think that it is sweet that Rukia had to mention about them coming to aid Ichigo together. Note the italicized togetherness.) - all these are just something thtat you cannot either doing with anyone else. One thing is clear is that they are almost always thinking on the same wavelength when it comes to each other (remember Renji holding up her drawings?) even in official matters - note that they were described as being missing together.

It is noticeably different in how Rukia treated Ichigo because after all, she always had to resort to violence to a get a point across; but there's no such need to do so in Renji's case. The violence (be it verbal or actions)in RenRuki is more of affectionate ones, with them almost expressing dissatisfaction or dislike in one another by means of roughened up gestures. There's no need for yielding his attention; there's no need to have him by all means pay some respect to her - it's just the way they communicate. Its cute because you cannot see them being violent for a purpose other than serving as another dimension of communicating.

I think their size difference has a lot to do with it for me. :love I really like it. I think it makes Renji look more masculine considering how open he is with his feelings and makes Rukia more feminine despite how rough she is with other characters (and even Renji :D). They compliment each other so well. Visually and personality wise, I think those compliments make it easy to envision them as kinky, fluff, angsty, or combative.

I love aqua's art, lady o! I need to find some good arts off deviant art to spam in here.

I'm really really hoping the anime doesn't cut off Renji's reaction next espisode, or maybe the one after that. When Rukia falls, its so powerful, as expected! It's probably our most recent shipping squee worthy moment in the manga so far. :cry

See, the reason why I like RenRuki pairing very much is because the role on 'who wears the pants and who wears the skirt' are interchangeable. That's why I believe Renji should be the one who make and give chocolate to Rukia, as in to break the usual Valentine custom in Japan.

I don't think it is just the same type of friendship that is started out as, and its more than the dependence it became after their friends died.

i say its borderline love, both have expressed extremely deep feelings for each other, and although neither has ever used the word love at all, im sure thats what it will become soon:D

I think that their relationship is much more gentle now. Being apart from eachother since she was adopted really took a huge toll on their relationship, but now its starting to heal over and i beautiful <3. However, since we are told Renji waits for Rukia for fourty years, worked his butt to make sure he can go to Rukia without being told off that he cannot.....what is three/fours hours or more going to do with what Renji and Rukia's feelings for each other?

I think it's interesting that even though they're apart, Kubo has been fairly intent on showing Renji's reaction to what is happening to Rukia. When she first releases her sword when she fights Aaroniero, and he's also the first one to get the news that she's "dead." Even in the past few chapters, Renji is the one that wants to go and help the others. My nice custom pair of shipping goggles says that it's because he wants to see Rukia, but that's pretty arguable. He also wants answers from Urahara.

So, I don't think he's backed off in the least, and I think he at least really wants to mend their relationship and have it evolve into something else.

On Rukia's side, it's really hard to tell because she's been trying to hold Ichigo's hand and prove to him that she doesn't need his protection. To me it's strange because with Ichigo, she seems to want to be that mentor that Kaien was to her, but she isn't as powerful as he is. Accordingly, she feels that she needs to prove herself and stand on her own, free from his protection, but we don't get much from her and Renji. Because Renji seems to accept her as a fighter, more so than Ichigo, so there seems to be little development between them because she already gets from Renji what she is looking for from Ichigo.

...if that makes any sense. I just finished off an evening martini. It had pomegranate, and it was goooood. and you wonder why I own the Matsumoto FC.

I don't think he's giving up on her at all. He looks right at her in those last two panels. Then on the next page, he says he wants to ask Urahara a few questions. The whole hougyoku situation put a strain on him as well, even if it technically helped him (I think there's less to mend because of how he stood up for her in Standing to Defend You). I'm not sure if he has much to ask, but has a few choice words for Urahara.

Now with the subs out for 161, I'm 80% satisfied with how they've animated the aftermath of Rukia's 'death', Renji's reaction towards the news. I just squee at the scenes and had to replay the part when Syzael said it's useless, Renji couldn't harm him, but sported a bleeding forehead after Syzael told Renji that Kuchiki Rukia was dead.
