One thing that also stood out about chapter 286 is that you can see Ichigo ---> Orihime especially when he carries her. Does remind me of how Renji carried Rukia. If Renji ---> Rukia by the way he carried her, then it has got to mean Ichigo ---> Orihime by the way he carried her also. Those are the two usual ways you see boyfriends/husbands carry their girlfriend/wife so yeah. Though Ichigo's version is the one where he can't wait to get Orihime in bed so he can have some action right away. Help, I'm stuck in the gutter and I don't want to can't get out. XD

XDDD BTW, don't recall but did you color the page where you clearly see Ichigo's chin resting on Orihime's butt area? I love that pic. XD But yeah, when I read that it does imply that Ichigo thought about it before, not really about her weight, but the act of carrying her because then he would wonder how light she would be in his arms. Did you check at doujin stores in Ikebukuro? There're lots of normal couples' doujins over there. You can ask tourist information at Ikebukuro Eki how to go the stores. Just ask them where you can buy Doujins （同人） They seem to know pretty well about these stores (I wonder why) But if you want something more than that, you should go to Akihabara :D

lol～ I think it means there're lots of "abnormal" couples out there. Yaoi Yuri Hentai, you know.

Akihabara is a place for boys..hentai stuffs, (AV)idols, games, figures, cards, electric goods, otaku things.... etc. But, in Ikebukuro, all of the stores are more for girls. You can find lots of yaoi doujins, but there're also lots of straight pairrings too. I rarely saw yuri doujins, though. The price in Ikebukuro is also cheap because most of them are second hand doujins. They seperate doujins according to the mangas and pairrings. You can also sell doujins that you don't like here.

Mz DI just bought 10 today too! But I'm thinking about what I should add on it.

I'm still finding how to contact them ;-; I called Shueisha today, but they said they were not in charge of this stuff and they couldn't give me any numbers. If I know exactly that you guys can participate or not, I will post here immediately.

But if you want to give it a try, I think you just write everything they require. Don't forget to right the big JAPAN in english, and write the other part in Japanese. If you're a lucky one and get posters, I don't think they will call you, but they will send those posters to you straightly in the case that you can participate.

I have no ideas about the differences between postcards from Japan and Western. Shouldn't they be on the same standard?

Yeah, they should, but I was just wondering. I saw a postcard that my brother got from Japan and it wasn't that different from the ones we have here.

They look the same to me. Only there's little red boxes on the front for the zip code/area code. Not sure about America but in Britain we don't have those and British postcards usually have a picture on the front. Japanese cards are blank.

I think what's awesome about Ichigo and Orihime too is that Kubo gets to show teenage love in all its awkward and sweet beginnings. Their moment where they are looking at each other is just stuff of romances. Then Nell had to go and interrupt. I guess it's for the best because otherwise we'd have seen Ichigo's sword in attention. XD Also, I do like that Ichigo in that panel was walking/standing on air. Remember that it was in saving Orihime from Sora way back in chapter 4 or 5 where he first learned to walk on air. You can say Ichigo first learned to "soar" like an eagle in protecting Orihime. Walking on air is associated with effects of love so yeah it's cute that Kubo put that small detail in.

Lady Orihime and I joked about the magpies being Orihime’s powers, since they look like little bird things anyway.

Q. Such as?

A. The 'one for sorrow' verse. If you see one magpie, you can expect sorrow, but two means joy. The most popular version of the rhyme at the moment continues: Three for a girl; four for a boy; five for silver; six for gold; seven for a secret never to be told; eight for a wish; nine is a kiss; ten is a bird you just can't miss.

This is a superstitious poem about magpies, to indicate whether or not you will have good luck or bad luck, depending on the number of magpies you see:

A. A bit of a cheat, actually: that's the song they sang at the beginning of a 1970s children's show called Magpie - ITV's rival to Blue Peter. An Irish version of the superstition is: To meet a magpie on the road is a sign of bad luck; two magpies for good luck; three for sorrow; four for joy; five for a wedding; six for gold.

I LOVE this version also. Partly because I’m Irish and I adore Irish lore, but my other reasons go as such:

One is the same in the one up top: loneliness sucks.
Two for IchiHime because it’s love AND good luck (as we’ve seen in the last 10 chapters of Bleach^^)
Three makes me kinda raise an eyebrow for sorrow, because the most common combination of “three” I tend to use is for IchiHimeRuki stuffs, lol, but I guess there IS a lot of angst at times for all of them, probably more so than all the other characters in Bleach.
Four obviously applies to IchiHime/RenRuki combination, and that is joy! :cheers:
Five is entitled to a fangasm, cuz HELL YEAH we’ll have a wedding for 5!!!
Six for gold is amazingly Orihime because she has 6 Shun Shun Rika, and all of their powers have been shown in a golden light (like the sun).

Aww, this is nice in that Tanabata was originally a Chinese festival, and I believe most Chinese versions of the tale have magpies^_^ So Orihime, in a roundabout way, is heavily associated with good luck! She’s been a LOT of good luck for Ichigo **thinks of chapter 283**

A spell of protection vs. magpie was to cross yourself, raise your hat to the bird or spit three times over right shoulder and say 'devil, devil, I defy thee'. This was particularly applicable if you did not like the future as foretold by counting the magpies.

Magpies are accused of not wearing full mourning at the Crucifixion. Because they wore white when they were supposed to be all black, they have been cursed by God.

This reminded me of Arrancar uniforms, white and not "black", like you would think the villains of the tale’s uniforms would be.


In Chinese mythology a three legged crow was used to represent the Sun (because 3 was the number for light and goodness, which the sun was the embodiment of)

Since Orihime’s SSR will be linked to Magpies, that means that crows have to represent Ichigo! XD Crows are commonly a sign of death, and since they’re a very pretty black and because Ichigo’s bankai cloak sort of reminds me of this image:

Ichigo surely is represented by the crow in this equation. ^_^ Isn’t it cool how a black crow was supposed to represent the sun? (Remember, Ichigo is the Black Sun! XD)

Often, two crows would be released together during a wedding celebration. If the two flew away together, the couple could look forward to a long life together. If the pair separated, the couple might expect to be soon parted, too. (This practice was also performed using pairs of doves).

Aww, poor Orihime and Hikoboshi. They must have let out two crows that separated on their wedding night. :( (lol, really though, I just wanted to add that in because I liked it^^ Not gonna lie…)

Anyway, the other bird that also fits into the “birds of death” equation is the Raven, which I would somehow link Rukia to, but unfortunately, all of the Tanabata stories I’ve researched had either magpies and/or crows make a bridge (if there was no boatman in the tale) for the lovers.



Part 5 (part3) was supposed to be about eagles (this is something I thought up in the past couple days) but I dunno if I'm feeling up to finishing that part, so it might be different. **shrug**

So any hopes for the next chapter? I want more IchiHime moments, but alas, Noitora had up and ruined the fun. I do want Grimmjow healed and I also want an interruption to the fight after Noitora goads Ichigo by calling Orihime "pet-sama". Also, now makes me wonder how Ichigo and Orihime will go save Chad and Rukia 'cause I don't think Noitora is the type to just let them off easy.

There is this big nagging feeling in me that it's going to be Ichigo/Orihime. First of all, in the series so far, the only romance plot Mr. Tite has mentioned so far in the manga is the love between Kaien and his wife, Byakuya and Rukia's sister...and Orihime's love for Ichigo. Why would he give those love feelings to Orihime if he does not intend to do anything with them? I mean, they would definitely need to go somewhere in the end. It is not a good literal device to bring details in if one does not intend to use or extend it for further plot purposes. I'm not saying that he'd do a romance subplot with it definitely, but the chances of Ichihime is at least greater than Ichigo/Rukia, given for the fact that Orihime already loves him. And besides, Ichigo had never really outright stated he would not 'like' Orihime that way. Granted, he can't understand the way she thinks sometimes, and is totoally oblivious of her feelings for him...but the fact remains, he doesn't 'hate' Orihime, nor had he declared undying love for Rukia (or anyone else for that matter) yet. There is still hope for Ichihime. Let us not forget, Mr. Tite did say Orihime would become a very important character later on in an interview once.



1.) To have it requited later on by the other person, especially when the one who had their feelings unrequited before had now moved on, thus creating a huge sense of irony towards the one who 'missed out' by not noticing the other party until it was too late. This was the case in HP with Harry and Ginny. It would seem that Kubo is one who likes to shock and suprise his readers, and is one who likes the irony device, since we can see how ironic it is that Aizen, who we all thought was the victim before, turned out to the guilty culprit at the end.

2.) For the one whose unrequited love to become 'evil' - or go against everything the person they loved / their love rival stand for. Basically, make the person they loved regret not choosing them in some form of revenge. However, that is an impossible character development for Orihime. Unable to even hurt her enemeies, people who have the intent of hurting or even killing her, I can't imagine Orihime becoming someone who could harm Ichigo or anyone else - ever.

3.) To save the one they love in a time of danger, thus endangering or maybe possibly even sacrificing themselves in the end. I think this situation is possible, though pretty cliche for my tastes. Even I would not use this plot, so I doubt Kubo sensei would. :/ However, I must note that this situation, if played right, can very much trigger upon the readers' emotions. When one sacrifices themselves for the one they love, especially when they hope for nothing in return but the safety of the one whom they wish to protect, can turn to be a beautifully tragic, heart-wrenching scene...even if a little melodramatic. Although the chanaces of this happening in the series is not high, there is still a chance this could happen, especially by the way Orihime's character and her depth of feelings for Ichigo have been constructed in the manga so far. It is not hard to imagine Orihime sacrificing herself for Ichigo, but I guess the more important thing is, would Kubo use this plot device again? He has used this often enough with Ichigo and the women in his life; first it was his mother and then Rukia; would Kubo sensei use it for the third time with Orihime? I highly doubt it; it would be pretty repetitive of him if he did. :/

4.) To use it as a character devlopment with the said unrequited love character, thus having them grow more mature upon the pain of not having their feelings returned, experiencing hurt single-handedly for the first time and learn from it then move on to find someone else who would truly cherish them [eg. in Orihime's case it would be discovering Ishida I guess. :/] However, this plot device is usually used with people who NEVER experienced pain, or didn't have much of it to begin with in their life eg. ppl who are naive and innocent beyond belief, basically ignorate ppl who has lived in a secured and protected environment all their life. For there is always that saying, "Whatever that doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger." But Orihime is not like that; she has enough of a dark past behind her as it is. I would think Kubo sensei to be pretty cruel to give her those feelings as a 'lesson' of life to be taught to her in order for her to grow up. I am sure many Bleach fans in the fandom would hope this is the reason why Kubo sensei gave this love of hers for Ichigo [especially the massive numbers of IchiRuki and IshiOri fans] but I really hope not. I'm not speaking from the biasness of an Ichihime fan, but as a general fan in the whole. It would almost be crueh and sadistic of Kubo sensei to have done this so that Orihime would be taught a 'lesson of life'. Having one's feelings unrequited is already sad enough, but putting her through it when she doesn't really need to experience pain [she has enough of it from her brother's passing, the bullies who used to bully her prior to having Tatsuki's friendship, etc] in order for her to be more mature is just downright malicious of him.

5.) For no apparent reason. Just give the girl/boy the crush and have them forget about it down the road when they become closer to the person of their earlier affection. Once they got to know the 'real' person behind, they've came to realize that the other was like NOTHING they imagined them to be. However, we can safely drown this theory down the Pacific Ocean, seeing how it's been ages since Orihime has gotten closer to Ichigo and her crush has not gotten any lighter from before; her attraction has actually became more and more deep, even becoming love and not just a mere fangirl's puppy crush. It seems Kubo sensei is going somewhere with Orihime's 'love', not intending to give it up...

Wow, awesome post, LivingHitoriki! With regard to what you've addressed:

1.) I don't see this happening, Ichigo falling for Orihime when she has moved on. Chapter 237 where she mentioned her love for him in five lifetimes is pretty much set in stone. You don't just move on from that. Even death is not "moving on" because her statement of five lifetimes means living and dying and living again yet still in love with the same man.

2.) I agree, turning evil is not something within Orihime's character. People were hoping that would be the case though especially when they saw her fear of Ichigo's mask. But then we learn her fear stems from seeing the man she loves become like a monster similar to what Sora became. Then we see her lose her fear right after Nell's pep talk. So chances of Orihime rejecting Ichigo because of his mask is 0 to none. Chances of her turning evil even less so. With regard to being rejected and turning evil, not likely.

3.) Very plausible. With regard to Kubo repeating themes of Ichigo being saved by his mother, and then by Rukia, and then by Orihime wouldn't be laziness on his part, more like comparison. He's saved by a blood relative (his mother), a best friend (Rukia), and now a future girlfriend (Orihime). XD

4.) Never liked the idea of Orihime as poster child for Unrequited Love. Usually, the character given that token device doesn't get much character development. Not so for Orihime. Her character development has grown in leaps and bounds especially in this arc. Kubo wasn't kidding when he said that she was going to be very important to the story. She's central to everything that's going on right now in HM. Without her, technically there is no plot because she's integral to whatever happens to the hougyoku.

5.) That's another thing I love about what Kubo's done, he's showed development in Orihime's feelings for Ichigo. He seriously could have left it as a crush and continued the Bleach story as is. But instead he decided to have her crush grow into full blown love? Why only her? No other character has ever expressed any feelings of love for anyone (barring married folk). Kubo can't leave that unresolved. It's also bad development to have her have this great love only to be rejected in the end especially when you don't see a similar build up of love from any other character.

In my opinion, Kubo will be now focusing on building Ichigo's side of the story and it will revolve around Orihime. There's a reason why he gave us a chapter like 286. There's a reason why he had Ichigo save Orihime 3 times between chapters 277-286. There's a reason why Orihime was the first to see Ichigo's Vizard form. There's a reason why Orihime was in every chapter from 277-286 witnessing an epic fight. There's also a reason why Ichigo got a power upgrade, thanks to Orihime. And you know what, it has everything to do between Ichigo and Orihime's relationship with each other and not anyone else. There was no one else in Ichigo's mind's eye through out his fight with Grimm, but Orihime. Even with his roll call near the end of his fight, the biggest emphasis was on Orihime's name. Even in chapter 286 after he sets Orihime down, his thought of Chad and Rukia seemed like an afterthought. His first priority was Orihime, asking her how she was doing, thankful she wasn't injured and then making sure she goes down safely. Anyway, looking forward to more development on Ichigo's end. I've enjoyed what I've seen thus far.

I don't see any of those "plot devices" working out though, not when KT's invested so much time in the pair as a whole (mostly from Orihime but all these latest chapters being Ichigo --> Orihime). ^_^

You know what's interesting that I realized? I re-read the fight with Grimmjow (it flows sooooo well if you read it all together! :D) and I find it odd in a funny sort of way that NO ONE, not even Orihime, notices the gentle look in Ichigo's eyes while he gazes at her in Viazard form. I think it's soooo romantic that Orihime doesn't notice the little gazes he gives her, since Lord knows he hasn't noticed her crush --> love evolvement for him (at least we assume he hasn't since the manga hasn't stated otherwise). So in a way it's only fair that they BOTH don't realize their feelings for each other.

Another typical teenage romance. Both like each other, always give each other looks when the other doesnt notice, and both are not confident that they can win the object of their affections. :love

Wow so much happened since my last visit. It took me hours to read all the posts.
First of all, I loved ch. 286 it was full of ichihime interaction, and I simply loved it. Honestly I've never expected a chapter like that from KT, I was thinking "Ok, now the fight is over for sure he's not showing us some IchiHime, either he will change the scene or suddenly somebody will appear, so that there will be no time for Ichigo to talk to Orihime". But OK I was wrong, and I was sooo happy about that. :p

Secondly, Eternal Dream thanks for taking the time to write this manifesto. I just read the first part and enjoyed it a lot. But I think I will wait till you have posted the whole manifesto, so I can enjoy it as a whole.

As for what LivingHitokiri said. I totally agree with you, it would be really a waste of time if KT had given Orihime her feelings for nothing. On a serious note, I am looking forward to how Isshin will react to Orihime. They haven't interacted yet, but we do know that Isshin did try to save Sora. So I'm curious to find out if Isshin will show his serious side to her, or will be showing his wacky self like he does to others. I hope it's the former.

Eagle Facts:

These are strictly EAGLE facts, with NO IchiHime. **gasp!** Blasphemous, I know… Well, of course *I* can see the IchiHime-ness of it, but really, I’m just shelling out facts and letting everyone else decide for themselves what they think/like about the eagles and you guys can relate these facts to IchiHime in any way you’d like.

Note: I’ll be referencing most of this stuff to Bald Eagles. Vega and Altair have no specific eagle species (like the Bald Eagle, Golden Eagle, Brown Snake Eagle, etc) that they are identified with, so I’m just going with the North American Bald Eagle because I know the most about the species and have researched the most about it. If Tanabata were to be associated with ANY type of eagle, it’d most likely be one that exists in or around China, since that’s the original country the festival was introduced. So, the type of eagle to identify with Vega and Altair would most likely (and, mind you, this is a complete guess on my part) be the White-Bellied Fish Eagle or Golden Eagle, since both live in/around China/Asia. But I’m lazy and biased and whatever eagle I say Vega and Altair are, then that’s the kind they’ll be darn it! >o Besides, I dunno about anyone else, but every time I thought about that couple, bald eagles were the first thing that popped into my mind.

Eagles, if I’m remembering my Discovery Cannel facts correctly, :P are the “King” birds of the sky, like lions are the “King” beasts of the jungle. (It’s either the eagle or the falcon…but I’m leaning more on “eagle” so that’s what I’ll go with^^) I know it’s just coincidence, since the legend’s been around for QUITE some time, but I honestly couldn’t have picked a more romantic bird than the eagle to associate with Tanabata.

Most eagle types mate for life, and that includes Bald Eagles! ^_^ They can “remarry” so to speak if their mate dies, or “divorce” for some reason (I think that’s extremely rare though o_o;; ) but in general, most bald eagles stay together ‘till death do they part. (I have to say, ALL animals that mate for life are complete WIN in my book. :love: And my mom told me that most “Birds of Prey” mate for life. Haha, go figure. XD)

There are certain reasons why I adore bald eagles. I don’t know if they’re the ONLY eagle/bird that does this, but while courting, the eagles do this awesome thing called “cartwheeling.” I saw a special on eagles and their courtship cartwheeling on TV one time and it was SO effin amazing. Totally romantic and absolutely beautiful. They also are very intimate with each other while courting (lots of body contact). And best of all, the FEMALE initiates the courting by being more passive than usual! XDDD :rotflmao

Once attracted to a potential partner, the bald eagle may begin one of several elaborate courtship rituals called "cartwheeling." In this magnificent display, the eagles soar to dizzying heights, lock talons, and begin a breathtakingly death-defying plunge to the earth. Just moments before striking the ground, the eagles disengage and once again soar to the heavens. If the timing is not perfect, certain death awaits this pair of speeding bullets.

Eagles can also “cartwheel” during battle, to display aggressive/defensive behavior for territory, and while the pics below are mating cartwheeling, the vid is supposed to be during a battle (though it’s hard to tell without the title/comments cuz all you see is the cartwheeling…)

And just for the Awws/Lolz, here’s another video where some guy isn’t sure if the birds are mating or fighting. (I’m not sure what kind of bird that is either, but it looks like it might be a type of eagle or falcon. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, since I have limited knowledge of different bird species! :P) You have to wait until the end of the video, but you can tell at the end that they’d been locking talons, which is why I think they might be a type of eagle. ^_^

Other behaviors frequently observed in spring, the beginning of the eagle mating season, that may indicate courtship include pair perching, bill stroking and pecking, and overall body stroking with the bill.

The inside of the nest is lined with soft materials collected by the bald eagles during its construction. The lining provides a comforting environment for baby chicks and eaglets. As the eaglets grow larger, this becomes a real danger and many juveniles fall to their deaths from high eagle nests each year.

This is one ridiculously loooooooong poem! D: But it’s terribly romantic. Throughout the poem there are notes and comments made, some of which I’ll be using.

These are ALL from L3:

ED comment: “imo” can mean sister, but it can also mean beloved wife. Not exactly sure why…but has Orihime been compared to being Ichigos’ “sister” too?! HAHA, it just works out. XD

That is to say, "wife." In archaic Japanese the word imo signified both "wife" and "younger sister." The term might also be rendered "darling" or "beloved."
(note by web author) In Japanese old poetry, "imo" signified "beloved" in most cases. But to-day, "imôto", variation of "imo", means only "younger sister".


When autumn comes,
and the river-mists spread over the Heavenly Stream,
I turn toward the river, (and long);

You can do it the other way around and it gets there... somehow. Without street names Japanese addresses are hard to find and confusing. The address code gives you an area block not a street.

As Mz D said, 119-0163 is a zip code which is definitely in Tokyo. In Japan, there're different zip codes for one prefecture according to which part the place's in that prefecture. Polls do crack me up though, especially pairing ones. Too many people make a big deal of it because to some it's an indication that their pairings will become canon because popularity = author must abide by the people's choice or else they get burnt at the stake for daring to go against the public. 'Course, Kubo probably doesn't give a rat's ass about that. Though as Danna said, IchiHime is becoming quite popular in Japan as well, but that's thanks to Kubo developing their relationship.

The recent chapters alone have shown where Kubo's headed in terms of relationships and it's steering toward IchiHime. Don't know about you, but Ichigo feeling up Orihime can't compare to stares and backs and epic saves and...wait Orihime did get all those too in the last 10 chapters so by that alone it's canon. XD Anyway, he's 286 chapters in, he's developed Orihime's side of the relationship and starting Ichigo's side (and we saw a lot of growth from 277-286) Bleach probably isn't even half-way done so he has tons of time to make this relationship grow.

BTW, any chance 277-286 will be in one volume? Not really familiar or keep track of chapters in volumes, but it will be cool if it was. Definitely a must buy for any IchiHime fan, that's for sure.

This arc has been epic in a different kind of way. This arc (and the Arrancar Arc) have served to humble Ichigo. He's had to look inside himself more than before. Yes, he did have to go into his inner world, but it was more to achieve power that he had within him. The fight with his hollow is more active, and there's no Zangetsu to help him with this. He didn't get to fly in looking all heroic this time. Orihime was brought to him while he was lying on his face, half-dead. As much as she probably wants him to ride in on his white horse and save her, that's just too ideal (esp. for someone who has imagined him as a prince before). She's getting to see him in a very unfiltered way, and I think that really builds something stronger.

One can argue it's just an opportunity for her to realize that he's not the person she thinks he is, but I think she has a pretty good understanding of him at it is. Remember when she did that imitation of what he'd say about going to rescue Rukia? That took him for a loop that she pretty much took the words out of his mouth. That was awhile ago, but for her to do that then makes it all the more impressive.

Yes, she was afraid of him with his mask, but it was for a very good reason. In this last chapter (286), she could see that he can return to being the kind Kurosaki-kun that she loves. Her brother, on the other hand, turned into a hollow and couldn't turn back until he was cleansed. The downside to that being her seeing his hollow take him over. I think that's the one thing that could potentially make her get over him, but I'm not sure if Kubo would do that. It's really a lot to dump on her, and I think she's had a lot to deal with as is.

First of all, awesome post, imamess! Second, I agree that Orihime seeing Ichigo as he truly is, hollow mask and all, will build something stronger. Goes back to what I was saying that people thought she was going to reject him because she was afraid of him. The thinking was that Orihime finally realized that Ichigo as her Prince Charming was just an idealized version of Ichigo. That in essense, she was in love with her imagination of Ichigo, not the real thing. 'Course Kubo proved that theory wrong. Orihime's feelings for Ichigo have not changed. This whole ordeal they went through together would only make her feelings stronger because she got a clearer picture of the man she loves, warts and all. That's why it was fitting that Kubo chose to have Orihime see Ichigo in his Vizard glory first. Eh, I have more to add, but time to go home from work! See you all later!

Nice post imamess. I agree with you and Nocturne that Orihime wouldn't reject Ichigo just because she was afraid of his mask (and even then she was afraid for him rather than of him). Even though I think a small part of the "Ichigo" in her mind is idealized (like the prince vision), it doesn't change the fact that throughout the manga she's been one of the people who's understood him the most.
