^lol rayne they're up there in my post xDDD I gave the site and everything, that's all that's scanslated of Gaiden up till now ^^; there's translations but you have to go to saiyuki_manga on LJ for those. anyway this is the site again: http://dragonvoice.org/dv_saiyukigaiden.html that's really all that's scanslated right now.

I might post the zips with the translation files from saiyuki_manga in here to spare you guys the trouble, but I have to see if that's allowed first xD also, I reccomend reading the chaps on their pages alot more, since looking at a raw page and then at a txt file annoys the crap out of me xDDD whereas on their community you can look at the pics and have the trans next to it already on the page :>

this is all there is up till now, and it concludes v9 of Reload. There are only 2 bonus chapters not related to the actual story (was about some crazy DBZ-like fighting tournament xD) that haven't been translated yet from v9 but I guess they will be next :> the order I put them in there is the order to read them. So please read the Sunspot chapters first :>

oh and I shouldn't have to mention, but the LJ comm always asks to please not make any scanslations of their work, since it'll get them in trouble with Tokyopop etc.

Ok, i tried to think up a possible topic for this FC, and i had two ideas

(I know we've talked about both before, but whatever)

whats your favorite/most memorable scene, or how do you want the series to end

Talk about 3rd Phantom... Saiyuki Reload Vol. 3: Ukoku Saga when Kenyuu showed up (headesk); Nii with Kougaiji... Also my first Saiyuki manga I ever bought before the fandom ate me alive. Should start blaming his seiyuu again for bringing in the Wind and Chaos.

If it follows the true legend; Kougaiji becomes a Buddha and leaves with Guan Yin from Vol.1. There was also other variations too... One when Kougaiji both Gyokumen Koushu and Gyuumaoh both dies leaving Kougaiji... Judging how dark Saiyuki Reload is... If Kougaiji dies, Nii will follow; since he's fascinated with the Demon Prince (more or less a reflection of himself).

Orihime is Goku... She was locked up in Las Noches facing the Moon. Like Goku in the series was locked up facing the Sun... Ichigo is Sanzo. Kougaiji has Red hair and Szayel has Pink (Pink is a different shade of Red). Renji would be Gojyo. :rotflmao

I made the list before still on my journal and LOL'D so hard once I figured out who was who in the series, since they were scattered. But the comparison between the two fandom; they are there, since Buddhism and Taosim were borrowed in Japanese Shinto Buddhism in Bleach. Saiyuki Cast is only dozen handful compare with Bleach... I still love Saiyuki... :crazy

Saiyuki Gaiden is based off Three Kingdom and the Historical figures itself; they are somewhat and slightly opposite based on their personality and quirks. Saiyuki and Reload are based on the actual historical Journey to the West/India. Saiyuki reinvented by Minekura is true to the actual written legend itself when it was written by Wu Cheng'en during the Ming Dynasty exactly 500 years ago.

Ancient ancestors believed the soul goes somewhere when the body dies and reincarnate as another being on earth again. I guess it's believeable unless they were crazy when they wrote about life and death, and similar countries wrote about the same things too. :crazy

Does anybody watched "Araiso Private High school student council, Executive committee". The author is the same in Saiyuki.. It is just funny because the two main characters Kubata and Tohitoh both look like Hakkai. And the one who is idolizing Kubata look like Sanzo (as in). I can't imagine the face of Sanzo with a total different personality. This anime is just like Saiyuki and honestly, while I'm watching it, I'm quite expecting that the four of them (Sanzo,Goku,Hakkai and Gojyo)would suddenly pop up since the drawings were so similar.

But still, Gensomaden Saiyuki is the best!

as for Araiso, if you like the main characters, Kubota Makoto and Minoru Tokitou, I suggest you guys read Wild Adapter =D It's newer than Araiso and is still ongoing. It's mostly about their rather difficult friendship and lives, about the dangerous underground, mobs and of course, the extremely dangerous and weird drug, Wild Adapter. I absolutely LOVE Wild Adapter <3 it's so cool and melancholic~ I really like Kubo-chan and Tokito~ they're such a cool combi X3

as for them looking like Hakkai, they kind of do, though in personality Kubo-chan is more Sanzo (though he never gets angry) and Tokito more Goku. Overall, Wild Adapter is alot more serious than Araiso though and it's in an AU to Araiso. in Araiso they're high school students and in WA they're just living in Yokohama in the 90's or something. and for some reason, WA runs in a bi-monthly yaoi magazine :lmao it's not yaoi or even shounen-ai really.... maybe if you want to look at it like that xD

Almost all of his scenes. I really like his personality. He is quite lazy, he doesn't want to fight all the time and let goku fight instead. He smoke a lot, drink a lot, bossy, hotheaded. Out of all these negative aspects still people see him as the hero, he is so popular to the humans, demons and even Gods. I don't know but I found it really attractive. Every episode has this kind of atmosphere so I laugh a lot just watching it. I also like the other three characters. I don't hate them.

My all time fave scene would be the episode where Goku dreams about Sanzo turning into a demon. At the end they really end up going to the bath place in that dream! So funny xD

yeah, its so hard to believe that Saiyuki and Dragonball were adapted from the same myth

but Saiyuki kind of stuck with the myth a bit more than Dragonball did :XD

I remember reading up on the myth a little bit to see if that added anything extra to the story, it kind of does

as for dragonball.... well it definately strayed off the main story :lmao I like Saiyuki alot better in that aspect at least~

another manga I reccomend by Minekura is Bus Gamer btw :> the Pilot Edition is out in English and in Japan, a new series started last year which plays before the pilot edition, about how the main characters got together~

I think it's very interesting how Saiyuki is based on Journey to the West <3 a while ago Bradc posted some links of very nice sites explaining the story and the life of the real sanzo :> I really enjoyed reading those, feeling I came to understand the story better and learning more of what it's all about <3 I dunno why, but I love manga and stories that have some basis in ancient history or legends =D

Part of it was based in Dragon Ball and by the time it got to Dragon Ball Z the series was blown into epic proportion, literally. It no longer follow the original legend anymore... Minekura's Saiyuki is pretty much the closes you will get in manga and animation form.

Saiyuki timeline Goku was about 10 years old from Gaiden, when he was prisoned for 500 years. He was 13 years old when Sanzo found him and was free, making Sanzo 18 years old. Basally in the current timeline Goku should be 20 years old now, as is Lirin. Gojyo and Hakkai are both 23 and Kougaiji is now 25 and so is Sanzo. Ni-Ukoku should be 35 years old now. :D

Lirin is just another Goku; Minekura created a balance between Houtoujou and Sanzo-ikkou. It was good verses evil; the Sanzo-ikkou coming off as criminals while the true hero and villain are still under one roof.

This is rather a turnabout O: I didn't really expect it to happen either lol I know we have seen a scene with kid hazel running away from something before but I thought it was insignificant then... guess not o___o; and for those confused, a little summary:


Hazel actually got posessed by a youkai when he was a kid and has been carrying the thing inside him all this time. The Youkai is also the reason he can take youkai's souls and put them into humans. The thing is though, Hazel had forgotten about all this, thus keeping the youkai sealed. Ukoku however, with his allpowerful knowledge, kindly reminded hazel of this fact and this unsealed the youkai and made Hazel lose control of his own body. The youkai soul has supressed Hazel's and is now controlling Hazel's body.

Those were from 5-6 years ago... From Tokusatsu acting they were casted in. I am fine with Karahashi's voice, you should see him act, he has the most experience out from the group as well as Sainei Ryuuji. Sanzo's actor Suzuki was also in Here is Greenwood Live-Action and also Gakuen Heaven Musical (http://musicalgakuenheaven.stcone.com/cast.html). Besides, they tend to pick people that look like their characters... or attribute to the character.

I have most of the english translated mangas. I think they came out w/ some new ones this year that I haven't bought yet.

I own the dvd box sets for the series and one movie, "Saiyuki Requiem".

I really want to see some more animation of the series though even if it is filler. All the characters were animated so well, and the manga was drawn beautifully too.

as for the author, Minekura is sick alot yes, she had some a uterus surgeries I believe and those are really heavy, I dunno how old she is, but the younger you are the heavier they are to recover from >__<; in any case, I believe that, though the chapters are sketchy, they are coming out on a regular monthly basis again. And seeing as she has even started up Wild Adapter again on the side, I think it's safe to say that she is recovering at least :>

btw, I dunno how many of you are sorta up-to-date on Saiyuki (as in, up-to-date with Zero-Sum magazine) but a while ago saiyuki_manga on LJ released scans+trans for some of the more recent chapters up until the most recent <3 since radiofreebanri has been outta the air, they have taken over recent saiyuki chapters as well :> they are also still doing Saiyuki Gaiden, recent and from volume 2, so be sure to check them out every now and then for those too <3

I think the last chapter I read was the one in the past, where demi-gods: sanzo, hakkai, goyjo, and goku were being surrounded by all the heaven soldiers? It's been so long the details are a little blurry.

@Fathom: nah it has never really been on hiatus, just that it didn't come out one or two times ^^; both manga's (Saiyuki Reload and Saiyuki Gaiden) are still running though I just read the latest Gaiden chapter and the end is two, three or maybe even just one chapter away I think ;O;

and yeh the demi-god version of everyone surrounded by heaven soldiers is from Gaiden yeh.

the scans are only on LJ yes, but access is really easy. You do have to have an LJ account and become a member of the community (but that just requires clicking a button) but as far as I know noone else has these scans up, mostly because it is NOT a scanslation. it's scans with a seperate trans. the group specifically asks that noone makes their trans into a scanslation either since they think it is copyright infringement and all. But you can read it really easily on their LJ community which I like :>

if you really don't want to join LJ and stuff, I can also put the files up here again. Apparently, I've missed quite a bit under my misconception of the series being on hold.

I'm glad I joined, this FC has been very informative.

I just wanted to say that after more than a decade of not being into animes, Saiyuki was the one that got me into anime a couple of years ago when they started showing it on cable. And they were the first mangas I ever bought.
