Family Guy vs. Simpsons

Well two of the most popular animated shows on Fox. Which do you like more than the other. I love Famliy guy I don't like the Simpsons. I find the Simpsons to be the same after episode after episode. That's my opinion anyways so which do like or love the most.

but yes the episodes are becoming dry and repetetive with the same jokes.
I've been watching it since back in the day and it is a classic, but Family Guy is reletavily new and has alot of comedy. I guess the creators of family guy benefitted from the Simpson's creators mistakes XP

I voted Family Guy. I guess because it's new, but Simpsons is great, too. I love both series, but because of Family Guy's novelty, I guess, I like it better. Something new and different.

Family Guy's main audience is teens. Because of that, it's humor has adjusted to less intelligent humor, and more randomness. It's really not that good anymore. I, for one, loved the Vaudeville guys, but hate Stewie. Oh, and I forgot to mention that they completely changed Stewie, which pissed me off.

I used to prefer Family Guy, but now The Simpsons ranks higher on my list.

I don't like Family Guy...it sucks..Although I always felt like The Simpsons was superb, the last 3/4 seasons are crap! I don't see the humor..well..some bits are fun, but not good enough to see multiple times.

Overall I think SOUTHPARK wins this match..all hands downXD

Family Guy has it's moments that it is extremely funny. Almost all of the jokes are so blatant and random, it's makes it one of those shows that you have to instantly like or not like. Very few, that I know at least, have ever changed their mind about it. Like I said, there have been times where it's extremely funny. I like it most of the time.

The Simpsons are just the staple that lead the rest in. It is past it's prime, but that doesn't change the classic episodes. The ones that I can still laugh at even though I have seen it 5 times. Pretty simple.

If I had to choose, I would pick the simpsons. So many good episodes. I think South Park and Futurama should be in the running here too.

That's very strange lol, that you like American Dad but not Family Guy, if I may so. I don't like American Dad. :p Seem just like a ripoff of Family Guy (yea I know, same creator), execpt not as funny. I guess it's the characters the most that turn me off.

The Simpsons cos back in the day it was the best, Family Guy is basically just a new and improved Simpsons for the next generation and therefore loses points. Classic simpsons pwns family guy any day imo.

I love the fights that Peter has with the overgrown chicken and how everyone treats Meg like crap. I wish the Simpsons would treat Lisa like crap. Anyways, Family Guy does have similar themes to the Simpsons but both shows are different.

The simpsons never seem to push the edge, at least not as far as Family Guy and South Park. It's fun watching a show where one joke can be so bad it almost gets the show cancelled.

When The Simpsons came out, it was pushing the edge. It's a classic, and if it weren't for The Simpsons, Family Guy probably wouldn't exist. As seemingly funny as Family Guy is, it'll never be what The Simpsons was. Also, I don't like how the humor of Family Guy changed for the worse just because the majority of it's viewers are prepubescent boys - the same ones reading Naruto in Japan. Because of that, its more intellectual humor is discarded to up the ratings, which even it's creator regretted, and replaced with more 'random'(TRUE random is /b/) set of jokes, which turns away the more intellectual viewers. I missed those Vaudeville guys.

I agree with the idea that without the simpsons we wouldn't have Family guy. Another thing is just the pure length of the series, although I still vote for FG there is no way that it'll last for almost 20 seasons.

I like.. Season 2 and 3 of Family Guy and Season 3-7 of the Simpsons.

Of those seasons, Simpsons kills Family Guy. IMO, anyways.

I think the Simpsons is a classic. The first 6-7 seasons or so were just great. But... after that I felt it has gone downhill and now it's just not funny or good anymore. Before, the episodes were really funny and well-written as well and the humor was complementing the script, which was awesome. Now I think that they pushed off the writing and focused too much on the jokes, which are now sort of repetitive. And IMO, Homer has become WAAAY too dumb. In the beginning he was just a little stupid and that's fine, but now he's like... SSJ19-stupid.

I feel that since the 10-11th season or so, they try too much to be funny and it fails. (kinda like Futurama...I hate Futurama >__>)

Family Guy just has that great random humor and that's what I love about this show xD It's hilarious because it's just so over the top and ridiculously RANDOM! At the moment I think it's better than the Simpsons.

EDIT : voted Simpsons because I think Simpsons at it's best > FG at it's best =P

I have the FG "movie". It's pretty good. It was shown on television (edited of course) as three episodes at the end of season 5 (not this last season, the one before) but wasn't released on the season DVD's.

I vote for the Simpsons, even though I like Family Guy better atm.

I remember the old Simpson episodes where it was funny and had a plot, a touching one at that, more often than not. It's kind of like the earlier Sponge Bob where there were lessons to be learned from it. Now, like Sponge Bob is getting to be, I find that the randomness and jokes are the main focus, and I don't like it as much.

Family Guy wins at randomness and jokes though, but it doesn't have a real plot most of the time.

And in case you were wondering, yes, I like Futurama, not for the jokes but for the plot, more or less. :p

I voted Simpsons. Family Guy has had more laughs in a shorter amount of time, but the sheer length and comedic value of the Simpsons is undeniable. That series was the feeding ground for Family Guy, South Park, and a lot of other shows.

I agree with most of you albiet Family guy has an Original sense of Humor though very much childish. The Simpsons earlier on was one of the best animated comedy cartoons anyone could watch. I'm still cracked up on the Episode when Homer meets his long lost Half Brother Herbert. Let's all not forget that most comical humor in Animation derrived from the Simpsons who's in thier prime brought so much laughter and brought forth new ideas. It was hard not to sample from a show that prospered for so long. I find in this day and age that the Simpsons have lost thier touch and Well Family Guy is what's hot and I think it's pretty funny, especially earlier episodes. I voted Family Guy because nowadays it makes me laugh even when Simpsons fail to do so but The Sipmsons will always be My #1 animated show and I will definately buy the movie when it reaches DVD.

Since "The Simpsons" came first and did practically everything, it's too difficult not to do sth already done...
However ...Family guy takes it to a whole new level.
It's still a great show, and the humor in both shows is different (Family guy being more nonsense and flashback oriented) but I still prefer the Simpsons---

Both have grown stale as their seasons have gone longer. I no longer watch family guy because its not as funny as it once was. However simpsons remained funny for a longer period of time, hence simpsons gets my vote.

I personaly like "The Simpsons" better because duh- it's funny. As for Family Guy, I hate it with a passion. More then HALF of their jokes come from "The Simpsons". If you go to YouTube and look for videos called, "Family Guy Steals from The Simpsons Part 1" and there is another (Part 2)- you can see that they stole from it without a heartbeat... And since they are both owned by 'Fox'--- they probably don't care if one copies the other jokes and/or scenes.... Because 'Fox' is making money either way.... So, who's unhappy on either side....? Nobody but the 'fans' of the shows. :p

Currently I find Family Guy funnier but I would have to say that the Simpsons has over all been better. The Simpsons has been on for so many years and with so many great seasons, when most other shows only last a few seasons at best and produce a lot of mediocre episodes with a few good ones. The Simpsons has hit upon so many social topics throughout the years while still being funny and not turning polotical. Family Guy has produced quite a few gem episodes, but the Simpsons has been around longer and done more so that is why I say the Simpsons are better right now.
