Should or can we have the senior member thing here in BA?

this site is still new, so members are gonna have to wait awhile before being senior members, becuz they would actually have to BE seniors :D ... but i dont see why not.

Lol maybe not 3000 rep. It seems the rep system here gives much less. At the rate here, maybe 500 rep? And avatars 150x150? 6 months of membership?

What would senior members get?

Rep? Why not post count in combination with join date?

it's too soon

i think post counts are a big possiblity since he/she worked hard for it. :headscratch

Post counts don't really mean anything guys. It's not you actually had to work to get them. It's called spamming. :p. Which is especially easy here. I don't see senior members happening anytime soon, but you never know.

Hopefully. I want 150x150 avas!! :yell

senior member titles should only be given out by admins who know who has been contributing positively to the community.
otherwise this place would just degrade into a spamfest and rep war!

I agree with .Nez I don't think post count should have anything to do with it rather join date and contribution to the site.

I'd say if possible Turn some one into a senior member once they've been active in perhaps 50 weeks.

If you post 30 post one week then 0 then next and 40 the one after that you should still only get 2 week points.

And have contribute an amount to the site as oters mentioned

It's way way too soon. This is still a very fresh forum and doesn't have or need senior members.

However, if this is introduced on a later date, I would have to agree with:

senior member titles should only be given out by admins who know who has been contributing positively to the community.
otherwise this place would just degrade into a spamfest and rep war!

Posts are meaningless, so is the join date. The only thing that should be rewarded is your contribution to community you are a part of.
I find the whole system on narutofan forums pretty pointless.

I support Nez|'s point of view. Positive contributions to community should be rewarded.

Factors like post count and join date should not be rewarded.

Well if they only just joined then they can't really be a senior member so join date would have to count for something...but er yeah let's kinda wait a while before worrying about it.

Yes, but that status shouldn't be given solely because of the join date and a number of posts, which is more or less the requirement on narutofan.

A person that has been here for a year (yes, far future ^__^) shouldn't get a senior status by default. Same goes when it comes to number of posts.

I would rather give that status to a person that has been her for half a year but has contributed much more to the community in one way or another.

I realize that this is rather pointless to discuss at the moment, I'm just stating my view on the whole thing.

What IS senior member status?

And how do you measure contributions?

Well to me senior member status to me is when you have spent a lot of time and effort contrbuting to the froums needs and well being. Post count and rep shouldn't be taken to account as people will just run riot trying to get high rep and post counts which is silly really post count means nothing and reps just a bit of fun.

The boards I frequent AS senior members are people with a post count of 100 or a year . And no there are 0 benefits . We already have titles* here with respect to post count (*Arrancar Hogyoku Arrancar ). Giving senior membership on post count is wrong as that just encourages nothing but spammage

So then...what would the title "Senior Member" do? Nothing, right?

Velius
07-15-2007, 11:10 PM
Yea, pretty much nothing. It's just another possible title. I don't see this being an important thing at this moment.

Giving senior membership on post count is wrong as that just encourages nothing but spammage
I'm sorry but the irony level here is just too high not to ROFL. Never thought I'd hear that coming from geta. >.<

Way to soon for the 'Senior Member' title.

But, when this forum gets older... I think the title should be rewarded by Admin and Super Mods to members that have been especially helpful, understanding, and generally kind to other members.

Join date should be taken into account because of the word 'Senior' in there. :P But not post count, as someone already stated we have the 'arrancar, hogoyoku arrancar, etc.' titles.

We shouldn't be considering this now though, XD too soon.

I'm not so sure what the senior member title would do.. bigger avatars? eh i dunno.

and I do think that rep/postcounts are pretty useless. Positiveness to the community is something to consider, but then again, is the person doing that doing it for the reward? I think not.. so It might be more of a burnen than anything else.

I'm going to say wait at least until this forum has been up 5-6 months before discussing whether or not there is a need for senior members.

I'm pretty sure that it was already decided to wait at least a few more months, I'd say we should have at least 4-5000 members before choosing senior ones.

I also agree on not choosing them based on post count (although that would help me) but it should be part of the consideration.

Nah, it's very unnecessary.

Any particular reason why you think that the post count is important enough to be considered? Example: Spammers can join a board and a week later rack up higher post count than me.

BA is not that old, so IMHO I'd shelve all discussions of 'senior membership' until months later. Like Axie's opinion. :D

I think rain-chan means thateven among people who have been around for long, they should have a significant post count to go along with their longevity.

Anyways, I still think its unwise to award senior membership like this. And I would rather each application be considered on a case by case basis.

Velius
08-19-2007, 02:56 AM
I think post counts should be taken into account only to the smallest degree and really only to rule a person out of the running for senior membership. Just enough to show that you are active regularly. Anything past that, should not be taken into consideration.

Buy yea, still way to early to even be worrying about this.

Anways, I'm locking this up. Since the majority decision here remains we shouldn't have senior members till the forum is perhaps 2-3 months older and a much stabler number of regular users.

Anyways, thanks to everyone for throwing in their two cents woth ^__^
