Anyone think they know why Humans could be possibly scared of certain thing? and debate your fears and why you think you are afraid of them.

I am scared or like crashing cars or dying as a result of a car. The reason is I have had Visions of some sort which result of my death by a moving vehicle. I feel a bit better by driving a car but I think that because I am controlling the vehicle rather than watching it. Maybe thats why i a afraid of them because I can't work them and if so i could die. Have also been run over before and lived from the experience so I guess my fear comes from that.

well, I have a few major fears

I am extremely claustrophobic. Being locked inside a small room terrifies me

sometimes even talking about it (being in a small room) can be too much and I have to take deep breathes and work to calm down

as for why I have it, not a clue:cookie, i was never in any dire situation where the fear could have been born and claustrophobia at this level isn't evolutionary, so its purely a guess as to why

Fear is an inborn response to predators. Since humans no longer have predatory opponents, the fear manifests in other forms.

I used to be arachniphobic, but I got over that. I am agorophobic (spelling?) now, however.

@rain: Yeah I know loads of people who are clostrophobic i can understand that but i aren't myself rofl i like tiny spaces sometimes i find them cosy XD.

Yeah not everyones sure why they have clostrophobia, some people have like hallucinations where they see the walls coming in on them so feel enclosed and as if they can't escape. Maybe yours is you like your freedom and like space to move around. Space is strange.

@ fyre:
Hmmm not always innate no because people can be socialised by experience and such to gain fear. Yours may well but not everyones in the world.

I don't get agoronphobic its like anxiety from sitations you can't escape or something. I never understood that care to elbourate?

emo- :lmao yeah, maybe its just i like to be able to move around or be in control of my situation, and being ain a cramped place removes that freedom

agoraphobic is the fear of living your house/fear of social situations

a few years back (when i was very sick) I kind of became agoraphobic, well thats what doctors wnated to convince me of, they were dead wrong though

yeah, I'd venture to say most fears are learned and not innate

Yeah that could well be it i know a few people with it so i kinda understand well i kinda don't because i like small and large places xD I find small cosy and large relaxing xD.

I think I have another fear which I highlighted today in a conversation with one of my parents but i can't remember what the hell it is.

And one thing: Anglophobia- Fear of England or English culture, etc. HOW THE HELL CAN ANYONE HAVE THIS ENGLAND IS KIND?????? *not biased as is English*

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia- Fear of long words. the longest phobia ever.

http://phobialist.com/#A- can find phobias you might have here there are some laugh in this like fear of meat and stuff wtf.

I have a few fears

Very claustrophobic I panic like crazy if I'm stuck in a very small place even a mid sized can be a bit much its even worse when more then one people are around. it comes from growing up in small dark quarters some times with many people.

I'm germaphobic I will not work or touch really any thing with out wearing gloves I also keep hand sanitizer with me at all times. Normally when even go up to a door I get out a whipe and open it with that on it. I panic worse then any thing if I can not wear gloves to work on thing or have a wipe or any thing like that. It also comes from when I was little

I also have a fear of being in large crowds or in a room with allot of people though I can mange that one alright but some times I look like i'm a nervous wreck this might be considered Agoraphobia. This one deals with same thing as first

Fear of noisy and very crowded places; large crowd of people...

My experience in college gave me enough anxiety to last a year, if not a life time. I guess being spacial and liking quiet places. My trip back home away from home to Hong Kong should be interesting... Is noisy and crowded, but must learn to adapt to a different living space again. If I don't go crazy first... @D@

Somehow I'm fine with anime conventions; I guess it also depends on situation...

Fears?

Well, I am afraid of the dark. I sleep with a nightlight and my blankets bunched up on me.

I am also afraid of death. I always think about how mine will be. Will it be fast or slow? Will I feel pain? Just thinking about it makes me scared.

I can't really think of anything else. :headscratch

This made me lol though:: Caligynephobia- Fear of beautiful women

This'll sound crazy but CLOWNS scare the hell outta me. Everytime I see one in tv or irl, it gives me a very uneasy feeling as though my entire being has been corrupted in some way. Happened when I was little >>

This is embarrassing and painful to admit to, cause I know how strange it must sound. But, I hope to defeat my phobia someday :D

I used to be scared of clowns A LOT. D: And I know some other people who are too, so you're not alone.

I'm deadly afraid of fire.
Also I get anxiety attacks and I'm sorta scared of social interactions, but seeing as I'm only young I'll probably grow out of it.

I'm terrified of spiders. I used to be scared of all spiders, but now it's mostly just the big ones, tiny ones I can deal with, but big ones send me into hysterics. I have nightmares quite often where I'm outside my house and my entire back veranda is covered in spiders of various shapes that are all around the size of a dinner plate and I have to pick my way between them to get back into the house. It's utterly horrible.

I'm also scared of heights, used to be that I'd freak out in a plane, but I found a way of talking myself out of that by pretending that I was just in a room somewhere. More recently though I'll be sitting there and suddenly realize that I'm in an aluminium foil tube several thousand feet above the earth. Not good.

To some degree I also fear open spaces, but there's only really one place where I've actually been scared, and that was in central Australia, where there were no trees, just flat desert and sky.

Everyone should refer to my signature. :p

Anyway, I'm scared of becoming old and unable to take care of myself. I really don't want to end up in some "Old Folks" home, around the same boring wrinkly people everyday.

That and, developing Alzheimer's. I forget enough already. :lmao

It's interesting to see everyone is really unique with their fears:uhuh. Claustrophobia seems quite common and arachnophobia too.

I'm curious as to these fears, are they all relating to some kind of terrible experience we've had in relation to them or they come about some other way?

One fear which I know nothing will happen, is when I go to take the rubbish out and I've always got the thought that someone might ambush me when I step outside my gate or someone will get me from behind when I go back into the house as I'm closing the door. It's probably from movies even though I don't watch many movies:noes!

I can't handle any size of spider or cockroache. I also have a fear of heights, and a mild claustrophobia.

I was chased around my house by clowns on my birthday when I was little >.> I was really creeped out with their make up. I'm sitting here answering your question and I can picture an evil clown creeping up behind me :S

*happy thoughts*

Oh ok, that's a very good reason to be scared of clowns ><. That reminds me of this time when I was a little kid and I was watching a play of Hansel and Gretel in this local shopping centre. The witch scared me a lot, was absolutely petrified of her, she had this scary green face:cry.

I've always been sensitive to movies and scary things in them, I just never watched them much. I was even scared of Batman and Robin when that came out, I think I was 8 and mum had to take me out of the cinema.

I used to be afraid of the dark and going downstairs or into the basement. I guess it revolves around watching those "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" and Ghost Stories shows on TV. Now I can sleep without the nightlights on, I can't even sleep with the lights on anymore... Not much of a basement in this house though to be scared of anything. Too small...

Is this really a debate? I have feared things before but most things I fear I try to overcome. I had a fear of flying so I became a pilot and now I love flying. I don't fear bugs but I sure don't like them walking on me lol. The only thing I really fear is loved ones dying, I can't think of anything else major. I guess I fear that for the same reasons anyone does and I started to fear flying because of a near crash I was in.

Why is this in the debate section? Haha.

I used to be afraid of everything until I had kids. The dark, bugs, heights, my own voice, tall people, losing my keys, you name it. I'm still a pretty anxious person. But when you've lost someone (I lost a roommate and some close friends to AIDS), you start to worry that everyone you love will die and so you don't want to love anyone.

Then having kids got me over that fear of loving someone.

There really is no greater fear.

Now I know that there is nothing I won't do--eat a cockroach or dance naked in the Astrodome or sleep on a bed of nails--for the children I love so much.

I believe once you get past the fear of loving someone, your life can begin.

*sorry so serious--it's been a rough week*

Fear is a path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. Though I warned you guys :D

I just remembered there is a thread for what you are most scared of here

http://www.bleachasylum.com/showthread.php?t=3568

maybe we could debate the rationale of fears here or something :lmao

emoloz
08-27-2008, 08:10 PM
Yeah thats what i meant to happen but we all like strayed from the path xD. Its sort of meant to be why do you think people are kinda scared as well as saying what you fear is so we'll just go with why you think people are scared of things.

I think some are innate because you do pick up simualr traits from other family members and such as your born for example like I don't really like bees but neother does a lot of my family some fears are kind of like that.

Then again those can be seen as socialised because if someone else doesn't like something you tend not to.

Some are expereince I think like my car thing from visions and i found out today i actually get slight anziety like a twitichy eye and my breathe strange when driving because I have been run over before and such as well as visions i have had over the years.

I don't think there is a single pint point to fears theres a few sort of things that cross but like rain said with his chlosptrphobia he can't work out why which might be an innate impulse.

Hope that makes it more debatey sorry for making it stray.

Rain

oh, :lmao so that was the original topic eh

well, personally since i believe in the cognitive and behavorial theories of psychology more than any other I believe that many of our fears are learned, the rest are innate, but there are no fears you have as an adult that is just innate

i say this because you may originally be afraid of something and as that fear intensifies it is due to conditioning (more or less just learning)

emoloz
08-27-2008, 08:33 PM
Haha yeah this is the way its heading.

I agree but some people do have fears and have them since they were born and never actually get over them which turns into an adult fear as well because its still there. It's why some people who try hypnotherapy and such don't actually resolve there fear because its not actually a response to something or the fact its learnt. They can't curve it because somehow its been stuck there.

It could be sort of the unconscious that could play a part which I think kinda links to my fear a bit with visions and such which could be the drive for fear but then again you don't really learn that either it sort of just appears due to your minds sensibility and stablility.

A lot of it is stimulus response and such and learnt behaviour because some you can "unlearn" or you "grow out of" because you learn that it is no longer something to be afraid of. Especially when facing your fear. Most I would say are adult fears because of an expereince or such which are more unlearnt.

I am scared of needles. When I am notified I have to do an injection I am stressed and anxious the whole time before it. I always try my best to avoid injections and rather get pills. I also would rather not touch an insect.
