um... yes so, I'm not sure if the better version of Death Note if the anime or the manga... so I figured I'd post that in the "anime/manga" section Vn__n;;

And yes I pretty much wanted to know what should I do regarding DN... Should I read the manga? Should I watch the anime instead? Should I do BOTH? The manga seems to have come first... but I mostly hear of the anime. What to do? O_O; I usually stick with the thing that came first (manga usually .. lol) but eeeeh... yeah I'm confused there o_O

Of course, feel free to discuss of anything else about Death Note xD

The anime follows the manga VERY faithfully...I'd totally suggest the anime. The animation is GREAT, the soundtrack is IMPECCABLE, and there are just some scenes that are so much better animated, I'm not even kidding.

The manga is still very awesome though. If you have enough time, do both. But if it's one or the other, anime all the way.

I agree 100% with Xeno, and even though the endings differ a bit.. I'd say the anime has a more 'comedic' touch to it. You'll have more time to grasp the anime, and the opening just gets you pumped for the next ep. As Xeno said though, watch the anime and read the manga if you have the time ^_^

Death Note TV Special to be Three-Hour Director's Cut
The upcoming Death Note special broadcast, which was announced during the last episode of the animated suspense television series, will be a three-hour Death Note Director's Cut: Compete Ending Edition special that airs at 8:03 p.m. on August 31 on Japan's NTV. It will mainly be a compilation of the confrontations between the vigilante Light and the detective L, re-edited from the perspective of Light's Shinigami (God of Death) Ryuk. All-new dialogue and soundtrack will be recorded, and scenes will have additional animation that could not be included in the original series.

Woot, I wanna see this. >.<

Man Death Note was so good until he died...you know who...the letter in the alphabet...

yeah agreed O__O; Somehow I thought the story lost a lot of it's charm after that... I really didn't like the 2 wannabes that replaced him in the story >__>

I just finished the story reading the manga... I might get to the anime after, when I get... let's say "healed from the ending" o__O;

and... 3 hours from Ryuk's perspective?! =O wow that sounds awesome... Especially since he's my favorite character xD

Novel
A novel adaption of the series has been written by Ishin Nishio, called Death Note: Another Note. It serves as a prequel to the manga series, with Mello narrating the story of L's first encounter with Naomi Misora during the Los Angeles "BB Serial Murder Case" mentioned in volume 2 of the manga. Beside Naomi's character, the novel focuses on how L works. Insight was given into Watari's orphanage and how the whole system of geniuses such as L, Mello and Near were put to work. Viz will be releasing the novel in English in February 2008

YEEESSSSSS

HOLY FRICKIN CRAP YESSSSSSSS

Although...why have Mello narrate it? He's still really young then, isn't he? Actually...how old are all the characters? o.O

I actually don't see Mello's exact DOB. But I would guess it would be possible for him to do something like that. L was a lot older then he looked.

I just had a catch up DN marathon. Episode 31 to 37. 3 different subbers I think haha XD.
After L dies it sure goes downhill. It was still good. The ending hmm, I didn't know what to expect, 2-3 twists in the last episode. Mikami screwed it all up for Light or his plans would have been perfect? Damnness! Screw him x3! XD I sorta wanted Light to win but the "good guys" have to win eventually

I think DN is one of the most radical and craziest manga ever created. The plot is seriously mind boggling and everything is so intelligent. As I watched I was thinking people might start getting some ideas from it and stuff which could be kinda worrying............anyone get those feelings?

Actually, someone was translating that novel, if my memory serves. I just can't find that link now. If we are talking about the same novel? But I didn't hear any other novel so yes I think it's same. I'll try finding it.

If you can post that linkage it would be wonderful. Being a L fun it would be very interesting reading his previous case files

I am interested enough to sample it at the least. I don't think I would watch the entire series again, even if it was the greatest dub ever. I do think it will be good though.

From the preview i've seen it sounds to be a good dub. But like Velius already said, there's no way i'd watch this series again in the next time -_-

The anime is better!!!!

Yo very nice argument....

I think every part (anime/manga/movie) has its own strength. Combined they form a very epic universe.
I'm just wondering what kind of movies the "L" specials will be.

HUWAAAT??!! It's already today?? I'm glad I checked out this thread!

I'm not familiar with the manga, but I guess both have their own flaws. Characters are too wordy with their thoughts, so it's better if you read them in the manga.

The anime gave a more concrete expressions of the characters with the superb seiyuu voices. You can't really ask for more with the 'star cast' of seiyuus. They're great and gave justice to the characters.

And yes, the whole story is great. It's not everyday that you get an amazing and brain-wrecking story such as DeathNote :)

If I'm correct Kuro-Hana will take it, dunno... a few weeks ago I saw who the group will be but I forgot ^^*
OMGosh, is it time for the special? I almost forgot about it... 3 Hours... wowz.

Btw, I really like the anime but I was totally surprised by the ending... It was so... miserable, I couldn't believe. I even thought I downloaded some pretty good fake O.o

hey just caught to dub off of Adult swim's website, dang it was really good! I had somewhat low expectations from Light's voice actor judging from what I heard in the trailer, but it was fantastic! He didn't sound annoying, and his intonations and emotional expressions where perfect. The part where he was talking about killing people for the greater good had this feverish insanity that was built up nicely. Usually I hate dubs but I really enjoyed watching this one.

Also...OMG@#$@$@#$ BRIAN DRUMMUND!!!! Love this guy, lol. I haven't heard him do anything since Vegeta, although he has been around, but he made a really sinister Ryuk.

Now I can't wait to hear L. I heard some clips of his VA in something else a while back, and he sounded pretty good. I think he was in battlestar galactica too. O_O

Yay! everyone go watch the Dub on saturday!!!!

i posted this in the other death note topic but i will post it here 2
it begins that Ryok tell the story of light to other shinigami (the part in which Kira was against L only ,without the part of the 2 new guys) and ends at L's grave and Kira killing people and say he is a god of the new world ,then ryok wrote his name , and then we know that the shinigami that Ryok was telling him the story was Yagami Light (the human who uses the death note goes to neither heaven nor hell )

I as well just saw the first English dub for the show, and I have to agree with the previous post it was actually pretty good, I like Brad Swaile's Light, and I think Drummond's Ryuk is going to be good as well. As a side note L is in fact going to played by Battlestar Galactica's own Alessandro Juliani who plays Gaeta in the Battlestar, this quite interesting I think considering Juliani has done little to no voice work, as well as being an actual actor on a very popular show, I kind of wonder why he did this gig, but hey I guess the character would be a joy to play.

Ocean group is doing the dub, so I think its going to in fact be good, I have loved their work recently on Black Lagoon where Swaile plays Rock and Drummond plays Benny, Black Lagoon I think is one of those anime's which is actually better as a dub.

I thought the voices fitted. Light sounded like a 17 yr old (which he is) and Ryuk had the sinister voice. Hopefully L fits.

I really like the dub so far, Lights dub voice is excellent as is Ryuks. They sound just as they should (in my opinion:D). Too bad the entire first episode only has two important voices, but as long as L's voice is good, then the series will be fine:D

Velius

Lights voice is good, but slightly higher then it needs to be. At least he has the evil laugh down. xD

I love this Anime! I'v been watching the Dubs mainly but I'v read up to Volume 4 of the Manga. I can't judge between the Japanese and English because I'v only seen the English, but the Dub voices are perfect.
Thanks to AMV Hell 4 I heard Light's evil laugh in japanese and I can't wait to hear the English.
I am also hoping they make an English version of the Movie. (Of course if they do they better make it as close to the Anime and Japanese Movie as possible)
