the generals of Mauritania took over and arrested the elected govremant.
as a result many countries and unions condemned the action and some decided to put embargo's or cutting off the aid.

now this is done because the take over is against the people will and is a undemocratic behavior.

now the question is if cutting the aid from a country to Mauritania actually help the people?

quick question

the people, are they in favor of what the generals have done or not

it seems as if the elected government has been overthrown the people would be against it, but I just want to be sure, as that changes the answer

true, it changes alot of things. all i know is that the elected president and gov were arrested after they removed from office two prominent generals who instead of leaving office decided to take over the country.

but lets assume for the sake of argument that country X have gone through some process that hurt its people in some way, what is the right procedure for this? wont cutting aid only cause more damage?

OK, so we'll assume the people didn't want the generals to do this (this is most likely anyway) and if at some point this is revealed to be wrong, well, we'll just talk about that then :XD

Cutting aid is an interesting action. It shows that countries dissaprove of what has happened, in a passive way that will still get attention.

but, either way, it does only hurt the people more, because they won't be getting any aid at all, the new governement will suck the country dry to save themselves

but there isn't really any action that can be taken that doesn't hurt the people

this way probably hurts the people less, and it shows that they might have allies, and it sure as hell hurts them less than some military action (but it could easily come down to that)

Cutting aid is a good way to press a nation into opening diplomacy from a country is not always the best idea Cuba is a good example the US embargo allowed Fidel to use The US as an excuse to stay in power and the communist party of Cuba to stay in power. Many oppressive or military regimes use lack of aid to stay in power they would say if it were not for us we would be invaded are lives would be worse if were not for us it works more often then you think hitler use this tactic to get in power and stay in power, punish the government not the people send in supplies directly to the people, or better yet stop getting stuff from the country stop importing there resources or trade items, instead of not sending aid meaning the nation will survive but cannot economically grow (i realize this is harder then it sounds, the only alternative if diplomacy fails is war) its sad what happen in Mauritania this could lead to a civil war in the near future its only been 3 years since the last coup Another African nation in turmoil sad
