Higurashi no Naku Koro ni takes place during June 1983, at a fictional rural village called Hinamizawa(based on the village of Shirakawa, Gifu, a World Heritage Site), which has a population of approximately 2000.
The main character, Keiichi Maebara, moves to Hinamizawa and befriends his new classmates Rena Ryugu, Mion Sonozaki, Rika Furude, and Satoko Hojo. Keiichi joins their after-school club activities, which consist mostly of card and board games (and punishment games for the loser, usually him.) Hinamizawa appears to be a normal, peaceful, rural village to Keiichi.
However, the tranquility abruptly ends after the annual Watanagashi Festival, a celebration to commemorate and give thanks to the local god, Oyashiro-sama. Keiichi learns that for the past four years, one person has been murdered and another has gone missing on the day of the Watanagashi Festival. Keiichi himself soon becomes implicated into the strange events surrounding the Watanagashi Festival and Oyashiro-sama.
In each story arc, he or one of his friends become paranoid, and a crime is committed. Usually, the crime involves the murder of one of their own friends. While it seems impossible to tell their delusions apart from the mystery of Hinamizawa, slowly the truth is revealed.

Loli killers FTW! I want to wait for 4 eps to come out first, that way I can watch a whole arc at once, otherwise I'm gonna be hanging. I loved the first series, so I have high hopes for the new one.

Killer lolis from hell !!! I hope the first episode of season 2 is hunky dory like the first one . You have no idea what horrors will unfold before your eyes in the upcoming episodes .
I would be happy if they would repeat that formula

So, did anyone watch this gory, weird, sometimes borderline completely bizarre series?

Alright, me again.
The story consist of 9 arcs . First we have the four question arcs and after that come four answer arcs with one mini arc in between the Q&A arcs.
After each arc (which lasts 4-5 episodes) everything is reset and we start off fresh, but this time with different events occurring. Some things always stay the same but most of the things are either completely different or told trough different eyes (this especially goes for the answer arcs, where we see what exactly happened during the question arcs).
I know it sounds a bit complicated but once you get into it it's really pretty simple.
The anime has a great story that keeps you on your toes almost the entire time with some...unusual twists to say the least.
This anime is also special because it quickly switches from playful and funny to gory and dark.
The second season started recently.
Did anyone watch it? Does anyone plans to watch it?

Higurashi is one of my favorite series of all time. Thought I hated the format at first, after I got into it their method of story telling was simply awesome. The twists, turns, and even the gratuitous violence were nothing short of artful. I can't wait for the second season to really get going.

I am facing quite an epiphany watch the entire arc or watch the first episode . If I do watch might end up being regretful till the second episode releases and so on. Last time I watched arcs as opposed to episodes

I suggest you watch arcs instead of episodes. The feeling is better, more to watch, easier to get into and easier to understand what's going on.

I did that with season 1 but you know the first episode in season 1 was different from what the show was about . Its was quite hunky dory and calm . Must resist the temptation to watch have you checked out the first ep ? ^^

Yep, I watched it two days ago...it's nothing big, just an introduction to the second season, although the ending is a little creepy....Higurashi style.
Resist the temptation, wait for the entire arc.

Did you mean the first or second season. If it’s the second season if I were you I would wait. As this series is divided into mini arc each with a different killer and from the experience of the first series it better you wait until the arc gets over.
I have a lot of questions like are the killers grown up or they will be focusing on a new group altogether

So...I'm at episode 15 of season one ( I HAVE to take it slow, too much mindfuck. I love it) and now feel like discussing this series. Take this gift and run with it boys and girls. Agmaster's a veritable noob for once....even if I did accidentally watch 1-13 of Kai 2/3 months ago thinking it was Ni. I've been regularly getting high in an attempt to forget what I've seen and plan on watching the beginning again once finished with season one. Though I may skip the first episode because I don't really care for the time wasting chapter so far.
So...the arc with Keiichi 'killing' the uncle in season one....what the hell kid. Don't be so sloppy. Unfortunately, I now understand a lot more than I should. More drugs to the rescue. Penalty game time.

I finished the first series a few days ago. The last arc brought up more questions than it answered, but it was cool. Keichii and Rena ftw!
I think Im going to wait until the entire second season is out before I watch it. The second opening is awesome though <3 *has it on stepmania*
