With the recent announcement of the PS4 And the upcoming announcement of the Xbox 720 (Durango) what are you're thoughts on these next gen consoles, Will you be getting one, What with all this talk of the next Xbox being always online It would probably be a smart move to stick with the older console until they stop releasing games for it. Always online is not the way to go, Just look at all the crap surrounding Sim city (EA & Maxis) and their game being always online.

Looks like this "always-online" feature for the next Xbox is going to be a sales-killer. Why did MS have to make something like that? And what about people who have a shitty connection or none at all? Just #DealWithIt?

^ IGN News video about Xbox 720 (possible price and different models). Note that this Thurrott guy hasn't revealed his source of information, so take everything "with a huge pinch of salt."

I agree, that Always online thing really killed it for me. I just hope they don't cut the servers for the 360 =(

No 'always online', but last I read they plan on charging $150 for backwards compatibility. Come on Microsoft.

So they plan on putting out an inferior product from a hardware standpoint, charging more money for backwards compatibility, and people who work for them are telling them to "deal with it". Well done.

Hopefully lots of customers 'deal with it' by buying a Playstation.

One can only hope WonderWeice, but the diehards will indeed "deal with it" and will stay with the console, IMO. What will probably happen is that the 720 will probably have a weak launch, but as time goes on, it will recapture its current customer base due to folks keeping their old 360 for the 360 games they like, and buying the 720 for COD & Halo basically (maybe Destiny too, if it really takes off). I already plan on doing something similar by keeping my PS 3, wait for the price of the PS 4 to go down, and then buy a PS 4 strictly for PS 4 exclusives and online games that my friends play.

So first thought's on the 'Xbox one'?

Did you like the look of the console, Kinect 2.0 or the new contoller?
Do you think the features are really all that inovative?
Of the games shown did any catch your eye? (I know there were only 3 shown but they look okay, Right?)
Will you buy one on launch?

Did you like the look of the console, Kinect 2.0 or the new contoller? The controller was the best part about the conference to be honest.I hated the first kinect and i hate this one as well. The system itself is very bulky and it reminded me of those very first blue ray players.

Do you think the features are really all that inovative? They were alright but nothing that would make me go out and buy the system.

Of the games shown did any catch your eye? (I know there were only 3 shown but they look okay, Right?)Quantum break or whatever it was called is the only one id think of buying.Even then i'd have to see more of it for a final verdict. But out of the games shown it was the best looking one.

Will you buy one on launch? This picture sums up my feelings.http://i.imgur.com/ZWO00kh.png

Sums it up pretty well for me.

Microsoft, one does not simply buy a game console to watch T.V. Hell, I don't even watch nor care for T.V. to begin with, save for a few shows like GoT and even then I can simply watch them online in privacy.

Did you like the look of the console, Kinect 2.0 or the new contoller?

Nope, they'd better hope they have a redesign down the line. Never cared for Kinect either, its a highly gimmicky add on they shouldn't have put so much focus into IMO.

Do you think the features are really all that inovative?

Watching T.V.? It was innovative in the 20th century but now? lol Seriously, no there was nothing I was that impressed by. I don't care for all the multimedia approach.

Perhaps the one that wowzers mentioned, but other than that no and a definite http://www.jailbreakauthority.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/obamahellno.jpg for this system. I didn't have the 360 either, so I'm not really big on Micro$oft in general. I kept an open mind for "Durango" or NextBox One, but it just doesn't seem appealing to me so far. If I want to watch Tv or whatever on the internet then I'll do that, I don't need help and only buy these things for the games.

So PS4 all the way. http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18oez7wuhue87jpg/ku-xlarge.jpg

I've been a PS follower ever since I was young so yeah PS4 all the way. All my favourite games always make it on there especially the exclusives. The only thing I'm disappointed about is no backwards compatibility but that's due to technical challenges rather than any sort of marketing strategy that some other company might have utilised. Can't wait to get anther PS classic on my list while using the PS4 :D

I'm tempted to count how many times Microsoft said "Sport" and "TV" in the reveal... God... I had high hopes for the next-gen Xbox, but alas, I might have to go back to Playstation if I do get a next-gen console and not go to PC.

Microsoft, I want to play VIDEOGAMES. Not watch TV, or Youtube, or listen to radio, or search the web, or go on Facebook - I have a PC for that (What this reminds me of is the PC saying to the XboxONE "Anything you can do, I can do better"). The main reason I'll get a PS4 is because it's an advancement - The PS4 is a Videogame-based console, whereas the XboxONE is a Multimedia-based "console" (And I use that term loosely), and I'd rather keep on playing videogames.

Also, no more pre-owned games without paying an extensive fee to get "Rent Rights" from Microsoft? As well as the probably mandatory subscriptions for the various crap I'll never use will end up costing me more? Just... No... I'm going to support the game industry, not help kill it by fueling a monopoly on pre-owned games...

I agree with ya man, but what about your friends? If they're Xbox loyalists, they won't change. See if your friends are getting the Xbox One. If so, here is what I recommend: do buy a PS 4, and buy the majority of your games for that console. But, at the same time, get the cheapest version of the Xbox One you can find, find the two main co-op games that your friends like to play you with online, and just use your Xbox One for that purpose.

As awesome as the PS4 is going to be, plus the fact that KH3 and Persona 5 are releasing for it, I'd get it at launch if I could.

Unfortunately, I probably won't get it until there's a PS5's in planning.

I get soooo excited about next gen consoles, when I can't even own them right away, most of the time.

Just read really bad news for me. Dont know how old this is, but I just read it...

Basically, I can use internet with no problems, play the games, use common apps...

But then comes online multiplayer... ITS NOT FREE!? For fk sake, REALLY!? You really have to get PS+ in order to play multiplayer...

Doesnt help that almost every PS3 game had NO split-screen option and only had multiplayer... So its really back to playing all alone PS games!? No thanks, I wont be doing that shit again.

Depending on how this works, I might still buy PS4, but the way it looks like, I probably have to say goodbye to PS4 and Sony and heck, even my "career" as a gamer.

Agreed on the Playstation Plus being entirely worth it, even though I currently don't have a subscription for the PS3, its at least a much better deal than what the Xbox Live is from what I've seen.

After watching E3, I seriously cannot fathom any reason to even consider any other console aside from the PS4. Theres literally nothing I can think of that could redeem the Xbone, and the used game debacle that Sony capitalized on was hilarious.

Micro$oft to me is really just being a greedy corporate scumbag that is getting exactly what it deserves. Sony on the other hand has given me new hope in getting a console this gen as I was really considering not to if they took the same approach. Glad that some corporations actually listen to the people who buys their stuff, kudos to Sony and looking forward to the new Station. (Looks like a re-made PS2, which makes it even MORE win)

Wish I could rep you Ele, because I couldn't agree more, and this is coming from an Xbox 360 owner. The PS4 is also releasing at $100 cheaper than Xbox One, plus it looks like a PS2 (the last Playstation I bought), plus Kingdom Hearts 3 AND a new Star Wars: Battlefront? With M$'s bid to strip the consumers of any appreciable level of privacy, this may be the easiest console decision I have ever made. Sony, it's been a long time. Your wayward son has returned. :wtf

I cannot believe how badly Sony just murdered Microsoft. Reiterating the statement above "This may be the easiest console decision I have ever made." Microsoft dug their own grave and then jumped right in. I really don't think there is anyway they can save themselves. Sony has countered every bad decision Microsoft made with the appropriate decision. Great Job Sony!

Plus Battlefront and KH3!!!!!!! :wtf :wtf :wtf

I'm very glad I have never touched a Xbox controller in my life, so these next gen consoles are even more sweet for me. The Xbox situation doesn't effect me at all, yet, but who knows how many other companies might follow their example, unless it complete bombs. I think there are enough Halo fanboys out there to keep that from happening tbh. I think I'm actually just more excited for KH3 more then anything.

That's a huge fear of mine as well. I don't want the used games market to disappear lol. While the Halo People might keep it from completely bombing I don't think it will keep them from getting hit with a huge decrease in sales. I just don't understand who they are marketing this thing too. If it was gamers, they did a pretty bad job. All of the backlash from their new policies has shifted the everything in Sony's favor.

I'm not a huge Online guy, I prefer Single player Campaign/Story games, Open world games. Thats not to say I don't pop in a Multiplayer game and play it, but it's not worth it at this point anymore. Especially when Sony has literally the same thing.

I couldn't contain myself when I heard about KH3. I've played every game in between lol. I just can't wait.

I'm not worried at all. DRM has already failed with Sim City, and many recognize it as a horrible way of management with all of its flaws. Unless companies just start to become brain dead and oblivious to all the backlash that it receives, it won't be catching on. The few that do implement it will simply be shooting themselves in the head. The only way that it would "work" is if we all are stupid enough to let them do it to begin with by buying their crap anyways.

I was admittedly a bit wound up before E3 and Sony's response and the thought of them doing something similar, but with how they have handled things so far I can relax. :woop

Hum, seems like Square isn't making KH3 & FF15 PS4 exclusives... But who cares, the main point is that they're coming :D But I really wonder if these two are going to be big hits on X1, because most likely all the fans of these game franchises are still going to stick with PS4. And has X1 ever had a big success with RPGs? Well, at least not with JRPGs.

I swore that I'm not going to get either of these two consoles, but for some reason all this PS4-praising has made me think again :lmao inFamous: Second Son and Mirror's Edge 2 from the games look especially fantastic :D

I'm not worried at all. DRM has already failed with Sim City, and many recognize it as a horrible way of management with all of its flaws.

After the fallout from Simcity, the nonsense that microsoft are trying to push with the Xbox1 is really just flabbergasting. I would honestly think that any company would be wanting to keep DRM and anything remotely resembling DRM at arm's length. I understand that the Xbox1 was probably well into production when Simcity rolled around, but surely anyone who is paying any attention to the gaming industry would have realised: "Oh shit. We need to change this before we go public."

But nope. Not microsoft. Let's face it, any company that would think windows 8 was good enough to hurl it onto the market is stupid enough to think a machine with mandatory DRM will outsell a cheaper machine, with a better graphics engine, that doesn't. Add to this that sony appear to be keeping backwards compatibility, and the entire fiasco with used games and the internet connection being required becomes only a small piece of an increasing gap between how attractive one console is compared to the other.

Right now, buying an Xbox1 seems like madness to me. Although there are more exclusive titles on the Xbox1 at this time (14 vs 12, I believe), we know from past experience that exclusive titles are a rarity. The overwhelming majority of titles - certainly big name titles that everyone wants - will appear on both systems. Game manufacturers are also going to be thinking about how many units they're likely to sell and, if the Xbox1 doesn't sell well (and I am uncertain it will), then those exclusive titles are going to start becoming even rarer (for it, anyway).

I'm not sure it is completely doom and gloom for the Xbox1. Die hard Xbox fanboys will probably still buy it, and at the moment there is simply far too much fervour surrounding their horrific decision making to get an accurate picture of how things are going to look later in the year when the consoles are going on shelves.

However, my current leaning is that this is going to be a battle that microsoft will lose - and lose badly, at that. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's less the DRM than it is the price tag that will lead many people to decide which machine they want.

Meh, After hearing that KH3 is actually coming out (About time) and new SW battlefront (Really!?), PS4 managed to get my interest again. But it better bring more awesome stuff before I make my final decision on whether to buy it immediately or not... Maybe not bying at all. That online thing still angers me and my friends.

btw, any word if there is going to be "different memory size" consoles or only one size. That also affects if Im going to buy it immediately or not.

Call me an idiot but I've pre-ordered the X1. All this nonsense with the DRM really doesn't bother me as much as other people it seems. Yes, the price tag is rather steep at £429 but most of us guessed it would be around the £350 to £450 mark so I can live with it.
Since I usually buy a games console for the games and I don't usually trade in (due to the petty prices stores are willing to give for them) I don't have a problem. Also whoever thinks Microsoft are using Kinect to watch them in their living room needs some help.:playful

As for the games, X1 has a better exclusives than the PS4 in my opinion. Sony are concentrating too much on Watchdogs and Destiny (which are multiplatform anyway). Also I know its part of the game, but I found it rather immature to mock Microsoft over the DRM. It's going to be the future eventually. May as well embrace it now, but then again.... some people.... :che

It is possible for a 3rd party to remote access a webcam and switch it on. There are entire websites devoted to webcams that have been hacked, so mouth-breathers can watch young girls change. That's one reason why I don't have one. It is entirerly possible that the 'always on' kinect could be similarly exploited.

I think that is the concern, more than microsoft.

For of those of you on PSN, I highly advise you to get Playstation Home and visit the virtual Playstation E3 booth. It is awesome!!! I got (supposed get) three free themes (haven't got #3 yet, but I think I know what I have to do, and is a pain in the rear to do too!!!) and a month of Playstation Plus for free. There are tons of good exclusives coming out for the PS 4 that will blow Microsoft away, IMO. Watchdogs and Destiny are good, but they weren't even the headliners for the PS 4!!!! Also, I am very glad I got a Vita when I did. Unlike the PSP, Sony/Playstation is making a real effort to develop & make content for this portable console, IMHO. Sony's taking the bull by the horns and is openly challenging both Microsoft/Xbox and Nintendo. (and not just the Wii U, but the 3DS is being challenged), IMO.

As long as the consumer has a say it won't be. I don't know why anyone would support a company thats basically telling you that its going to do whatever it wants at your expense just because of their own greed. Not calling you out for it though and its your call. I myself am not paying $100 extra dollars for a console with more ridiculous restrictions and a device (kinect) that will never see the light of day. Getting PS4 because it gives me a choice, end of story.

I'm just gonna echo what Ele said here, but I think the only way that DRM is going to be the future is if we Let it be the future. If you support the products such as the X Box One that support DRM then more companies will begin using it. However if we don't buy their products then they will refrain from using it in the future.

PS4 has been much more appealing to me thus far. It also shows that Sony is listening to their fans. The only thing I will miss with the XBox is Halo.

So more people have now pre-ordered the PS4, so Sony is increasing it's sales forecast

While I agree with pretty much everything said, the hate for the X1 on many websites is rather over the top. There are a large number of posters who I have seen giving racial abuse to anyone who mentions anything positive about the X1. If these are the kind of people switching to the PS4, then I for one aren't complaining.

I think that most of this hatred has come from speculation and pretty bad Microsoft PR. It wouldn't surprise me if they end up changing this, but I also don't think we know the full extent either. The X1 is a generation ahead of its time and I wouldn't be surprised if the PS5 follows the same strategy. The world just isn't ready for a digital age of gaming yet.

At the end of the day its all about the games and the Xbox has always impressed me more than the PlayStation. Though I must say that "The Last of Us" is rather exceptional and I am enjoying every minute of it, even if it hasn't had any "stand-out" moments yet. :D
