Wasn't some of that animation re-used from Ichigo's backstory about his mom way earlier in the series, or at least very very similar to it? If that's the case, the kid is definitely Tatsuki. :) And hey, I wouldn't mind the idea of shinigami!Tatsuki swooping in to save the day!

@ Revan1990: Kubo just character-designs for the fillers, and probably sketches out a few rough plot points (ie his Ashido sketches for Forest of Menos), but I'm sure he leaves the details to others. Like Kenryuu's shikai, for instance. :facepalm
