I mean the book by Robert A. Heinlein. I was blown away by it-- I may not necessarily agree with what Heinlein is saying, but it's a thought-provoking book.
Intend to start on The Forever War soon and then a Philip K. Dick marathon, if funds allow.

I did not know that this was a book.
The movie is excellent. Saw it for the first time many years ago, and still watch it with pleasure to this day. Sounds like it's worth checking out to me.

The first part of the movie was damn cool, but I felt the romantic subplots didn't work at all. Read the book, it's different but waaay better IMO. ^^

huh, I'm surprised it was book as well. I know that the 3rd movie is coming out on DVD, overall I only saw the first movie, it was bunch of campy fun I would say.

The tone of the books are not at all campy, even though it was written in the fifties. It's pretty much a thinly-veiled political treatise, but it works pretty well as a story too. And the Mobile Infantry in the book is very different from that of the cannon fodder ground pounder of the movies-- in the book the Mobile Infantry are equipped (and with skills) more like Master Chief than anything.
what i liked about the book was when i found similarities to my militery service.
he really did a great job in showing the life of a raw recruit.
