This is my first thread!

Hello!

I'm not sure if there are a lot of gamers on the forums. But I'd like to disucss video games that are going to the big screen, or video games that now have an anime series, and vice-versa.

What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you like to see a video game as anime or movie? Or maybe a movie or an anime series would have its own game?

Or do you like to keep the world of anime/movies seperate from the gaming world?

Hmm, I cringe when I hear a game is about to be made into a movie. :x They're usually done so poorly that it loses the qualities that made them a great game in the beginning.

Remember Street Fighter (with Van Damme!!)? Or Mario Bros? Or Mortal Kombat ... oh wait, I actually liked that first one. :p

I think unless the producers/directors are more concerned with keeping true to the game than making a quick buck, then leave games and movies separate.

Movies to games though, tend to translate better since you can spend more than 3 hours playing a game, but not watching a movie (unless you have comfy seats :D).

Yup, usually games turned into animes/movies are bad, bad, bad... *shivers*
Something to forget rather than to think about XD

Street Fighter, in my opinion, was the worst video game made into movie, Resident Evil is another example but it is on another level than Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. I think the -RE- movie was okay since it was focusing on a new chracter and not much on the in-game characters. Still, I liked only the frst one.

I'd like to comment on FF VII: Advent Children, since it was a movie based on a video game, I like that the story is set after the game, rather than the game it self. I love that movie a lot. I can't deny that I'm an FFVII fan, who loved every thing about FFVII, from characters to story line to battle system, and even the music.

How about Final Fantasy Unlimted and The Spirits Within? I haven't seen the movie nor the anime? Was either of them any good?

And how about Gungrave? and Devil May Cry?

Advent Children was cool, though the storyline could've been better imo.
Unlimited was okay, not bad or anything but it wasn't great either >_>
same with Spirits Within, it was awkward at times but not nearly as bad as some people claim.

I have to agree with you on the story, it could've been better or different.

How about Xenosaga? I played through the first game, and the third, a friend of mine finished the second. The games already have a lot of cinematic scenes, so what was the anime about?

Gungrave is the only game ---> anime series I've ever seen that was pulled off great. Devil May Cry anime is lackluster if you ask me.

I don't really like games being turned into movies. The Resident Evil movies are horrible, imo :X

RE are bad movies. As in part of the worst. It's a style >___> I saw worst, but those were turkish movies (Turkish Star Wars wins, you have to laugh at it - not to mention the dudes took out entires scenes from Star Wars - author right? What? XD).

Anyway, back on topic with Advent Children. I liked it and hated it at the same time. The plot was just awful. It was eye candy for the most. Emo!Cloud, OH, HOW I HATE THEE! I just wish they'd continue with Happy!Cloud that we see at the end of the game -_-' Good things were the fight, the best being Tifa's (and I can't complain on this since I'm a huge Tifa fan :p). They had everything to make a good movie and they came out with somehow crap. So meh, if it's the best they can do... stay away from games ---> movies.

The James Bond series has had some decent movies and games. I can remember plaing Goldeneye for hours on end. Most of the movies were decent.

The only anime that was based off a game that I can remember caring about was Star Ocean EX. I'm not sure if that was because it was good series or because I just really love Star Ocean. Meh, either way. lol.

Advent Children was pure eye candy IMO. The storyline wasn't as good or 'epic' as I had hoped it to be. Honestly the only part of the story I liked was the Cloud vs. Sephiroth bit. :x And I agree with Syn; Cloud seemed too emo in that movie, as compared to game!Cloud.

Oh, oh, the only other game movie I liked was Silent Hill! I'll admit that I never played the game, but the movie creeped me out big time. :D

The James Bond games were actually fun, now that you mention it, Velius. :D
