Come here to talk about the latest news on the PS3, PS3 games and etc.
http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/4607/ps3fi9.jpg
I got to say this summer is a good time to get a whole load of great PS3 games, like, The Darkness, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Lair, Assassins Creed and so on...
Also not to mention there are alot of games people are anticipating like MGS4, GTA4 and FF13.
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/9331/darknessns6.jpg
Currently I'm playing The Darkness and I got to say its a real fun game to play, and well worth the buy ^^.

Look good, will add to my -long- to play list. I'm looking forward to Assasin's Creed, but I'm still not sure if I should get it for x360 or ps3!?
Last I played on my PS3 is Genji.
I want to play Oblivion, and Tenchu z, I wonder if they're any good.
Griffith

Oblivion is a fun game Serph, I rented it, has a really good interactive story with freedom to do whatever you want.

Really? Story is the first thing that attracts me to a game. I think I will try it then :).
My bro says that in Tenchu z, you can customize/make your own character, which I think is kinda cool to have a ninja character.
I think most good games are coming out in the Fall/Winter.

PS3 price cut (down to $499) and 80GB version was confirmed this weekend \o/
Karraker has confirmed that as of Monday the 60GB version of the PS3 will retail for $499, presenting a $100 price drop on the previous retail price. In addition to this price cut, Sony will be releasing a new 80GB equipped PS3 to the market which will come bundled with a copy of Motorstorm for a total price of $599.
Karraker also relayed that during the remainder of the current fiscal year, the PS3 will receive 100 new titles, of which 15 will be exclusive.

This came in today,
According to Amazon, PS3 sales have gone up 700% since the price cut.
While some of us were waiting for better games than Motorstorm to be released, it seems that a lot more were just itching for that hundred dollar price drop. Since Sony announced it was slashing prices like the Yorkshire Ripper on its PlayStation 3, sales on Amazon have shot through the roof, now holding the retailer's number 3 sales slot -- a huge improvement over the 24th slot it held prior. Furthermore, in the last 24 hours it has become the largest sales gainer as far as videogame related products go. Amazing what the shedding of a hundred bucks can do.
Now, I know some of you have been keen to point out that Amazon is but one retailer, but this is still pretty significant and indicates that price was indeed the biggest barrier to Sony's success. All we need now are some stellar PS3 titles on the shelves and maybe the fence-sitters will join in the frey. So close to E3, this is the kind of last-minute boost that Sony needs.

An interesting news article,
PS3 Bundle
The PS3 "Starter Pack", which is going on sale August 1. Seems for €599 you'll be able to get a 60GB PS3, two Sixaxis pads, MotorStorm and Resistance. €599 used to get you just a 60GB PS3, so that's some serious savings right there. Provided you were going to get both games and a second pad, of course. If not and you wanted a price cut, well, you're shit outta luck (and might be any way, since both pads will need replacing soon) None of this is confirmed, of course, even if the box art shown is very nice, so eat eat EAT that salt while we wait for official word.

So, I've been ignoring PS3 since I'm poor and well, Sony's been doing a horrible job marketing it. Lack of backwards compatability, forced to update firmware to play newer games(?), and forcing blu ray on customers is just sheisty.
Hows and ever enough time has passed that I am going to look elsewhere for breaking the system, but I wanted to hear a concise opinion on the machine from owners. I'm going for DMC, MGS, GUndam Dynasty Warriors, Assassin, and a few others.
Are any of the PS3's BC? In your opinion is it really worth jumping through all of the hoops Sony is laying out for people? How mandatory is the firmware updating? How enjoyable are the standalone internet features? (Wii news > the world).

I think this should be of interest to some of you... as it mentions Final Fantasy XIII, briefly.. =p
PlayStation Premiere 2007 (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3161355)
And here's what everyone's been waiting for. Hideo Kojima demonstrated the gameplay segment of Metal Gear Solid 4 on actual PS3 hardware for the first time. Kojima showed Snake using his camo suit to disguise himself as a bronze statue, hide in barrels and trash cans. He also showed Snake knocking down enemies rolling the barrel while he is still inside it. After feeling some discomfort, Snake "revives" as he is given a female idol magazine. The producer also revealed that an online multiplayer mode will be in the game and more details will be announced at the 20th Anniversary Party next week.
Lastly, Square-Enix showed new footage for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. This will be shown at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show event and a realtime demonstration will be expected sometime next year.
Also,
New White Knight Story Info (PS3) (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33046&)
Level 5 CEO Akihiro Hino brought a playable version of the game to Sony's PlayStation Premier press conference in Tokyo today and played it live before the press.
According to Famitsu.com's account of the demonstration, Hino began by first showing off the game's character creation system. Players will be able to create their own likeness for inclusion in the game, making use of a detailed character creation tool. This tool is so robust that Level 5 itself used it to create the main characters and 1000 or so NPC characters that appear in the game.
The demonstration proceeded to the battle field next, with a demonstration of the battle preparation screen that was shown in last year's trailer. Unlike that trailer, though, Hino's demonstration focused on a battle between the giant White Knight character and an equally giant demon. Apparently, while the two giants are fighting, smaller human-sized characters and enemies continue their own fighting below.
I'm very interested in this game, it's on on my "most anticipated" list for upcoming releases. ^_^
Velius

Well they've started Last Remnant, which should be fresh and interesting. As for Final Fantasy, I think the 'newer' games, VII, VIII and X are far superior to the classic ones.
Anyways, I think we're getting a bit too off-topic though, the FF FC would be better suited for this discussion. ^_^

IGN is reporting that Final Fantasy XIII is only 13% complete, I read this on a different site some days ago as well. Even worse, Versus XIII is supposedly only 1.3% complete.

PS3 sales up over 135 percent (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=80247)
SCEA has announced that, based upon preliminary internal data, PS3 sales have increased by more than 135 per cent at the company's top five retailers over the past two weeks.
SCEA announced a new USD 499 retail price for the PlayStation 3 on 9th July.
"The new price on the 60GB PS3, coupled with our very strong software showing from E3, is certainly paying dividends in terms of impressive sales across the board at retail," said Jack Tretton, SCEA president and CEO.
In the two weeks following the price drop, total PlayStation hardware sales have increased by 161 per cent, software sales by 15 per cent, and peripheral sales by 60 per cent.
Even before the price drop, PS3 sales in June were up 21 per cent over May sales according to NPD data.
Sony sold 290,108 PSP units in June, a 31 per cent increase year-over-year. The PlayStation 2 continued to sell strongly with sales of 270,763 for the month of June.

Here's something interesting that could lead to further price drops..
Sony currently incurs an estimated $200 loss on every PlayStation 3 sold, but an exec from the firm said today that loss could be eliminated this fiscal year.
During a conference call Sony executive VP Nobuyuki Oneda said the firm may be able to break even on PS3 hardware this fiscal year, which ends in March 2008.
He said that the main cost-downs would have to occur in the Cell processor, RSX graphics chip and Blu-ray optical components.
“The removal of the negative margin will be when all of these factors have come out. Maybe, marginally, we could achieve this during this year,” Oneda told a Citigroup Securities analyst during a Q&A session. Oneda still couldn’t specify exactly when this break-even point may happen.
“For the negative margin to go away, the big trigger would be the cost-down in the Cell and RSX semiconductors. They are the key, and also optical pick-up is another factor, significantly,” he said.
Oneda confirmed that Sony is working on transitioning the PS3’s chips from 90nm to 65nm, which would reduce costs significantly. He said the Cell would be the first PS3 chip to make the migration, followed by the RSX chip.
Game console makers typically sell hardware at a loss, and make up for this through software sales. Nintendo, however, has made it a point to sell its hardware at a profit.

lol that's really really old news now Lilium. =p
The initial production cost has been estimated to be US$805.85 for the 20 GB model and US$840.35 for the 60 GB model; however, they were priced at US$499/C$549 and US$599/C$659, respectively.
The high manufacturing costs mean that every unit is sold at a loss of approximately $250

Also really excited about army of two (http://www.gametrailers.com/game/2726.html)
And of course, Tekken 6 which from what I've read on forums is incredible, along with having new features like breakable stages (Dead or Alive), the berserk system and usable items. Sadly, the screenshots from it arent near what what actual gameplay is like.
But until those games come out (as well as Lair and FXIII of course) I'm playing Resistance which has been out for a while now but is a really good game and I would reccomend it to anyone who likes FPS.

Alright here's some interesting PS3 news doh.
Sony + Hon Hai = Cheap PS3s? (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?p=979408#post979408)
Insiders in the sector said that Sony has cut the selling price of PS3 consoles, and, at the mean time, planned to launch low-price models, with ASUSTeK Computer Inc. and Hon Hai Precision to supply the models.
First Impressions On Heavenly Sword (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36032)
The Good:
- The game is flat out gorgeous. Incredible draw distances and scenery make this one of the prettiest games to date on any system.
- Character models look incredibly good. Faces show immense detail and really don't suffer from the whole Uncanney Valley effect.
-As serious as the story is, there's plenty of comedic relief. The voice acting of Bohan, done by Andy Serkis of Gollum fame, is top notch.
-The fighting sequences are a thing of beauty with almost a dance style flow to them. Combos are easy to pull off, and the counter and stance system works well.
-Tons of unlockable artwork.
Sweden - Buy an HDTV, get a PSP or a PS3 (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?p=981038#post981038)
GamersReports.com brings word that Sony is bringing out the big guns to push PS3s and PSPs in Sweden. Between October 1st and November 31st anyone buying a 'full-HD' Sony TV (presumably a 1080p unit) will get either a PS3, or a €200 rebate on the unit. Consumers buying other HD ready Sony TVs will get a free PSP.
No word on whether this promotion will spread to any other territories.
Sony Clarifies Details About PS3 Home (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/09/14/2137248&from=rss)
"For instance, a casino or even somewhere you can go and see 18-rated trailers for games. That isn't anything particularly sinister, but obviously, you'd have to prevent 12-year-olds going in there. Obviously, there are other 18-plus areas that you could imagine, but some of those might not come to fruition."

From what I have read and seen about Heavenly Sword, it looks really good, but I just don't think it has what it takes on it's own to get me, and many other, to get a PS3 just yet. Thought any price drop will duly help in that decision. Shame Lair was a giant FAIL.

So this is where we can update each other with the latest ff13 news from tgs07.
I'll start with this:
Like its spin-off Final Fantasy XIII: Versus, the "true" Final Fantasy XIII seemingly exists more as a story and FMV than as a game at this point. In its defense, though, the FMV is pretty much completely jaw-dropping.
Shown only in Square Enix's TGS "closed mega theatre," the newest trailer for FFXIII has no gameplay footage whatsoever -- but it does contain a ton of new scenes and some narration to help give context to the glimpses we've seen over the past year and a half. The general noise level of the show made the narration difficult to hear, but here's what we've gathered:
Like most Final Fantasy games, XIII seems to be set in a futuristic fantasy world with aerial cities connected by mighty airships. But this world is beset by something called the "Cocoon," which appears to be ravaged by monsters -- Bahamut and Ifrit were shown, among others. To maintain the peace, or perhaps for more nefarious reasons, some people are relocated to a place called Pulse. The train seen in previous trailers apparently serves this purpose.
SCREENS: Click the image above to check out all Final Fantasy XIII screens.
Lightning, the powerful woman warrior who has dominated XIII footage to date is described as having been chosen to put an end to Pulse. More of her battle on the train is shown before a dropship releases an army of yellow-clad soldiers who descend by rocket and surround her.
New characters are shown -- the mysterious blond man in a black skullcap and white trenchcoat (to date only apparently known by his shoe size, "Mr. 33cm") puts in an appearance, brawling with enemies and tossing a magic sphere into the air which resolves into the summon Shiva. Now seemingly cybernetic, Shiva transforms into a motorcycle which Mr. 33cm rides as he fires at motorized foes while riding through a massive loop. A well-aimed hit destroys an opponent's motorcycle, sending it plummeting below to explode.
The scene shifts to a more rural, scenic view as various beasts run alongside a river. The camera pans to the cliffs to reveal a third character, a young woman with pinkish hair pulled back into a pair of pigtails. It's safe to assume that she will serve as the game's requisite "jailbait" character (i.e. Yuffie, Selphie, Rikku, Penelo). From a reverse angle, we see that the pink-haired girl is looking into the sky at what appears to be a frozen or disintegrating moon.
Given how little has been revealed about its gameplay, FFXIII seems likely to be a 2009 release. But going by the trailers we've seen -- particularly this latest one -- it feels like the sort of sequel Final Fantasy fans want, full of familiar elements and unexpected twists side-by-side. Oh, and lots of very pretty graphics.

http://www.ff-xiii.net/images/scans/182egm2copy.png
The November issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) reports that although info on Final Fantasy XIII is tight and hard to squeeze out of Square Enix, one tidbit has popped out, Final Fantasy XIII is up and running on Playstation 3 hardware as of now (see scan 1). Whether FFXIII has just gotten up and running on PS3 hardware recently or if it's been up and running and this info has only just made it to EGM is unclear. If it's the case that FFXIII has just gotten on PS3 hardware recently, the prospect of seeing it inside 2008 seem slimmer than ever, especially in english.
Also, on the last page of the November EGM issue (see scan 2) it's revealed that FFXIII is on the top of the list for previews to be featured in next months issue. Look for scans of that very preview a month from today here on FF-XIII.net.

EMagLive.com has received multiple reports over the last few days from sources who wish to remain anonymous that Microsoft is making a largely successful bid for two of the PlayStation 3's most anticipated third-party exclusives: Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
The reports of Final Fantasy Versus XIII heading to the 360 have been circulating for nearly the last month after it was revealed that at least parts of the White Engine were being ported to Microsoft's console. Speaking to EMagLive we were told by a source close to Microsoft that the Redmond company was in productive discussions with the Japanese developer Square Enix to "at least get [Final Fantasy 13] as a timed multiplatform and at most get the game as a simultaneous release".
We learned that Square Enix was apparently asking for a large monetary compensation for the port, while Microsoft maintained that they did not want to pay for the cost of PlayStation 3 development on the title. Despite the difference of opinion it appears that the two companies are close to reaching an agreement that will bring the blockbuster RPG to the 360.
We contacted Square Enix for comment, but the company maintained that they had no news to announce stating "at this time, there is nothing announced toward a Cross Platform Final Fantasy game, other then Final Fantasy XI and The Last Remnant. This is not to say it will never happen ... decisions to develop additional games for the XBox 360 will ultimately be made by Square Enix and Microsoft."
We set out to get additional sources on the story and while chasing them down learned that Microsoft was also very close to reaching an agreement with Konami regarding Metal Gear Solid 4. Konami apparently also requested significant monetary compensation, but if our sources are to be believed the end result is looking like it will remain the same: Microsoft is close to reaching a deal which will bring MGS4 to the 360.
Konami responded by saying that they "have no information concerning the possible release of Metal Gear Solid 4 on the XBox 360 at this point". But they told us to "keep an eye on our website for updates" regarding any announcements on a 360 version of the anticipated title.
Microsoft declined to comment, saying only that they "just can't divulge any details of any deals we have with business partners" at this time. The representative noted that if there were any truth to the information we had, Microsoft would not be able to comment on business relations with partners, especially those concerning any future titles.
How could Sony lose two of its most pivotal third-party exclusives? Jack Tretton head of Sony Computer Entertainment America revealed earlier this summer that Sony had a strict policy against "buying" exclusives. "We have a very different approach to exclusives than some of our competitors," stated Tretton. "We don't buy exclusivity, we don't fund development. We don't, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform."
Yet many developers find that the costs of developing on Sony's platform can outweigh many of the benefits. Sony's royalty on each disc sold is twice the royalty Microsoft levies on their system. Additionally, each extra month of development that the platform requires can raise the break-even point by as many as 50,000 – 80,000 units on big titles.
Editor's Note: This is the sort of story that most reporters don't enjoy reporting because they cannot explicitly list their sources. That said, every bit of information in this story has been confirmed by at least two sources independently. That doesn't mean we got it all right, it just means we're confident that we did everything we could to ensure as much.
We want to be clear and upfront that we recognize this is still a rumor until we can name sources and allow public scrutiny to take place. We also recognize that because this site is relatively small, and we have decided to use forum software to power it as an design choice, this piece may be viewed as a "hit generator" article. We don't at this time make any money off the site however, and extra hits actually hurt us more than help us. At this point what is important is our reputation, and we hope that our professionalism will shine through in our thoroughness with the parties and comments involved.

the source of this information - a forum based news site with unnamed sources of information - not exactly reliable when you consider the big game sites get it wrong too.
The source of this news doesnt sound solid enough to make a topic for it, IMO.
The way Square-Enix replies to the questions is exactly how S-E reacts to everything. They cant say no, never, when they dont know what the future has in store.
But I tell you this, Sony is no idiot. They know that FF13 and MGS4 are THE important games. Losing those, and PS3 dies. No denying. PS3 will die... hard... fast... bye bye PS3.
You think Sony wants that? Thus, their "We don't buy exclusivity, we don't fund development. We don't, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform." approach is probably also to a certain extent...

If one were to give a progress report on the revelations resulting from E3 (July, in the USA), Games Convention (August, in Germany) and Tokyo Game Show (September, in Japan), not sure that there would be what to leap of his armchair. A new PSP Slim & Light, the exit of X360 Elite and the tariff fall of the other versions of X360, or advertisement of the pad Dual Shock 3 of the PS3, here is in substance the advertisements manufacturers. Without forgetting the interrogations around the supposed fall obviously - and waited - price of the PS3, which was simply concretized by the replacement in the USA of the pack 60GB (sold for the circumstance 500$) by a pack 80GB coming to replace old while beginning again until its price: the famous 600$ considered to be too high by considerable actors of the videoludic scene, to start with editors who hopelessly await a fall in the price of the PS3 to see their expensive productions being sold. Editors who go even sometimes until tancer Sony on the subject: Ubisoft, Eidos and Square (to quote only them) for example still recently firmly gave an opinion in favour of a fall in the price of the PS3. Without success for the moment…
Indeed, it seems that the dated October 12, 2007 one was chosen by Sony to make an enough important advertisement to be qualified in-house “big-bang”…
Sony will thus have benefitted from no go international to announce this famous fall of price, on which all the speculations run since long months already, relayed in that by the opinions of financial analysts increasingly many to predict a reduction of 100$ of the price of the PS3. For as much, Sony really plans T it not to lower the price of its console before the festivals of end of the year? One could think it, insofar as - the advancing calendar - it seems that the manufacturer let pass all the good occasions to announce the news. However, nothing is less sure. Indeed, it seems that the dated October 12, 2007 one was chosen by Sony to make an enough important advertisement to be described asin-house “big-bang”. They are specialized retailers close to the manufacturer who entrust the news to us, that he is obviously necessary to take with the tweezers of use. Nevertheless, if one wants to wonder well which event made in Sony would have enough width to act as “big-bang”, one quickly comes from there to imagine the return of the revenge on the fall on the price on the PS3. A fall which would thus intervene right before the exit of PES 2008 in particular, which one knows from now on that it will be also sold in a bundle PS3/PES. A pack which should make devastations, and which one does not know yet the price [edict: some evoke already a bundle with 449€!]. As it is strange…
Does a PS3 finally drop some and October 12, 2007 to be marked of a red cross? Perhaps, even if one remains for the moment in the field of the speculation. What is less speculative on the other hand, they are the last figures of sale of the PS3 and X360 on the French ground. Because coincidence sympathetic nerve, Microsoft and Sony France all two have just communicated on the sales of their respective consoles in France. What currently gives us: a park of 430,000 X360 installed in France (the console left in December 2005), against right now more than 200,000 “sold” PS3 if one believes president George Fornay of it (for a PS3 left in March 2007). Where it is understood that in spite of its puffing starting, the console of Sony unrelentingly makes up for its lost time on its Microsoft competitor, no matter what one thinks about it. Good moment to give a blow of accelerator before Christmas… via a fall of price?

September 28, 2007 - The latest issue of Famitsu has nine pages on Kingdom Hearts, two pages on Parasite Eve, and a teeny-tiny column on Final Fantasy XIII. There's a saying about beggars and choosers that seems to apply here.
The magazine got FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama, art director Iasmu Kamikokuryo, Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura and Agito XIII director Hajime Tabata to share some brief commentary on the new trailer set.
On the main FFXIII trailer, Toriyama noted that a new "strange" female character was revealed for the first time, along with a look at a city inside the Cocoon. Commenting specifically on art design, Kamikokuryo noted that balance is difficult because some areas of the game, particularly related to that strange female character, are a bit odd for the Final Fantasy universe.
Nomura addressed the Versus XIII trailer, noting that the staff has at last managed to reach the image they were originally seeking. The trailer has two new characters, but he expects them to undergo some changes in later trailers. He does feel, however, that the main character design is representative of what we'll be seeing when the game shows its true colors next year.
Nomura also spoke about the setting of the new trailer. The city and fields of the trailer are inspired by Italy. In fact, he noted, the words that appear throughout the trailer are in Italian. He pointed out that a few characters in the trailer have a mafia feel about them.
Finally, Tabata discussed the mobile entry in the FFXIII series, Final Fantasy Agito XIII. He described the game as a casual online game. Don't hold your breath for a release any time soon, though, as Tabata admitted that Square Enix is currently waiting for hardware and wireless specifications to be finalized. Previously, Tabata has said that the game will appear on next generation 4G phones.
All the FFXIII games appear to be gearing up for a proper unveiling in 2008. With any luck, and a bit of begging, we'll get a few more details before then.

Sony schützt neues Icon/Logo

Sorry for the German, but basically it just describes the logo and nothing else.

October 3, 2007 - A melancholic piano sighs under the backdrop of sea-blown wind. As you meander along the paths of Doolin village, your steps color the scene with murder, suspicion and knowledge of the many realms of the Netherworld. This surreal and often-times haunted journey is the journey of Folklore - and this is one great reason to own a PlayStation 3.
Final Score 9.0

If you want to discover the wonders of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction for yourself, we'd suggest clicking away now. The video we're about to show you features action from the later levels, tackled with some of the best gadgetry in the game. Yup - we would have stuck around too.
First, you'll see the planet Viceron and the start of your break-in run on the intergalactic jail. We're not going to tell you why you're breaking in - we're not that mean. Then you'll see the into-the-screen flight section as you make your way towards the space pirates' base.
After that, we take you to the arena where we deal some swift death to Crushto - a giant cyborg shark (don't you just love Insomniac's imagination?). Finally, we head for the Iris supercomputer on the Kreeli comet, with some more space pirates attempting to block our way.

4 October 2007 10:16 GMT - Sony will announce tomorrow that has bowed to consumer pressure by not only reducing the price of its 60GB console, but also creating a 40GB version priced at £299 to go up against the Xbox 360 Elite.
Confirmed by multiple sources in the games industry in the UK, Pocket-lint has learnt that Sony Europe will officially drop the price of the games console in the UK by £56 to £369 in an attempt to boost sales ahead of the Christmas rush.
"We are currently under strict NDA, however that NDA runs out in the next 48 hours", a retail source told Pocket-lint.
As part of the deal the newly introduced value pack, which included an extra controller and games, will be phased out, Pocket-lint has been informed by multiple sources within the industry.
"Although we aren't sure when in October it's happening we are aware that the price will drop to £369, with shops probably selling for £349, and a 40GB model launching as well to compete against the Xbox 360", a major games publisher told Pocket-lint.
In attempt to offer an even more compelling alternative to the newly launched Xbox Elite, Sony has also said it will be launching a 40GB "Core" version.
As previously rumoured, the new PS3 console will still feature the Blu-ray drive as standard, come with 40GB hard drive, Wi-Fi connectivity and a SIXAXIS controller, but it will lose two of its four USB slots and the memory card reader.
It will also lose the backwards compatibility chip, although this isn't likely to affect UK customers, as in Europe backwards compatibility is done via software.
The rumours of the new unit, which were broken by Pocket-lint last month, means that if you include the cost of buying the Wi-Fi adapter and HD DVD drive to the Xbox Elite, the move means the new PS3 will be £160 cheaper, although you will get a bigger hard drive with the Xbox.
The price will also make it one of the cheapest Blu-ray players available in the UK.
"Sony is clearly hoping to make a comeback against the Nintendo Wii, which is currently outselling the PS3 four to one", an industry insider told us.

The official announcement is out.
New 40GB version for €399.
Drop for 60GB version to €499.
Now, that sounds fine and dandy, were it not that the 40GB version doesn't have PS2 backwards compatitablity. Arghh... I'm still going to wait until Sony releases a good, cheap version of the PS3. I don't care if it's just a 20GB version. If it can play games, that's all I need.

According to the November 2007 issue # 76 of the Official Xbox Magazine Sony has secured the next Grand Theft Auto, which would be number 7 in the series, to be a true exclusive to the Playstation 3.
"Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of the Cell and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that" as said by Sony's Michael Shorrock in a statement to the press. " We handed Rockstar a signed blank check because we were short sighted enough to let Grand Theft Auto's exclusivity get away from us. Oops!"
Looks like the Xbox fans may be out of luck when it come to the next installment of Grand Theft Auto. If they do release a 360 version it sounds like it would have to be on multiple dvd discs if the game truly takes advantage of Blu-ray.

This is to dispel some confusion among potential consumers mind. Although the 40 gig PS3 isnt backwards compatible with ps2 games (AT THE MOMENT) it can fully emulate all PS1 games.
However look forward to firmwire updates which would make software emulation of PS2 games possible on PS3.
This is what BIZ DAILY is reporting :-
"GameDaily BIZ also contacted SCEE spokesman Nick Sharples who told us, "We have made clear on many occasions that our priority is on developing innovative new features and services for PS3 and not on backwards compatibility. The 40GB model no longer contains any elements of the PS2 chip set which powered backwards compatibility in previous models, and is therefore only compatible with PS one titles."

Oh alright.
I started making seperate threads because people stopped reading this one a while back, but yeah it's probably best to keep the PS3 news in it's semi-official thread. ;)
Anyways, some more details on the new PS3 model and price cuts:
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (or SCEE for short) has announced details of its new PS3 model that will launch throughout the SCEE territories on 10th October 2007 at the price of €399.
Along with an ever expanding line-up of PS3 titles (a total of 65 titles tracking across all genres by Christmas), the new PS3 is equipped with a 40GB HDD and includes all the features of its 60GB brother including High Definition Blu-ray Disc player, SIXAXIS wireless controller, Wi-Fi and HDMI connectivity, all powered by the Cell Broadband Engine, the digital heart of PS3.
As with the 60GB PS3, the new PS3 features upgradeable firmware allowing new features and functionality to be added to the system as time progresses. A recent firmware update, for example, enabled PS3 to upscale DVD’s played on the system to full 1080P High Definition.
The introduction of the new PS3 has been determined following user feedback from thousands of existing PS3 owners as well as research into future potential PS3 owners. The new model features two USB 2.0 ports rather than four and no longer includes the multi memory card port.
The new model is no longer backwards compatible with PlayStation2 titles, reflecting both the reduced emphasis placed on this feature amongst later purchasers of PS3, as well as the availability of a more extensive line-up of PS3 specific titles (a total of 65 titles across all genres by Christmas).
The existing Starter Pack*, comprising a 60GB PS3 with extensive backwards compatibility, an additional SIXAXIS wireless controller and two first party titles will be reduced in price to €499. Remaining on sale while stocks last.
*In the UK and Ireland, the Starter Pack will be replaced by a separate in-store promotion on the 60GB PS3.

"In the latest magazine scan for PSMania, their rumor mill reveals some interesting things, where you see the Dark Cloud 2 image, it states:
"Uno dei nostri infiltrati, ci ha rivelato che Level 5 sta lavorando a un nuovo Dark Cloud esclusivamente per la PlayStation 3. Questo titolo uscira il Marzo 2009, e sara sviluppato usando una nuova tecnologia stile cel-shading chimata "Kumo Engine"."
Luckily, I was able to get a translation:
"One of our infiltrates, has revealed that Level 5 is working on a new Dark Cloud exclusively for the PlayStation 3. This title will come out in March of 2009, and will be developed using a new open-technology, the Japanese style "Kumo Engine"."
Will Dark Cloud 3 arrive in 2009 for PLAYSTATION 3? If we hear an official announcement, we will let you know."

Resistance: Fall of Man 2 Details (Unconfirmed)
Aside from the first and last level, the game takes place entirely in the United States, where someone who may or may not be Sgt. Nathan Hale (who plays a role in the story) has to deal with the Chimeran invasion of the US in such places as San Francisco and Chicago. And there is a cliffhanger ending that sets up for a third title. Vehicles will be included in multiplayer this time around, one will be able to take to the sky with three new vehicles or boogie it down on the ground with the three vehicles from the first game's Campaign.
