Series Info

Gurren-Lagann is Gainax's highly anticipated new mecha franchise, helmed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (animation director of FLCL), script and storyboard by Shouji Saeki (one of the directors of FLCL). Mecha designs by Yoh Yoshinari (Dead Leaves, Melody of Oblivion). Character designs by relative unknown Atsushi Nishigori. In short the cream of current Gainax talent.

story synopsis

In the future, people are digging holes in the ground. They build houses and have domestic animals there. They have been living secretly fearing occasional earthquakes and roof-falls for hundreds years. Jeeha is one of such villages. One day, a boy, Shimon, is digging holes to expand their village. He happens to find a small shining drill. On the other hand, Kamina is a guy who believes there is the ground over the village, and he made a gangster to break the ceiling to get out from the hole.

In those days, the ceiling falls down due to an earthquake, and a big robot falls.

Kamina becomes sure that there is a world over them. Then, to be reckless, he begins to fight against the robot. At the moment, someone also comes from the above. It is a girl Yoko with a rifle in her hand. She is following the robot. However, only she can do is to keep the robot from going. Then, Shimon shows what he found in the ground to Kamina and Yoko. It is a mysteries robot whose body is only a face.

Anyway, this is probably my favourite anime for quite a while. Its pretty much shameless overblown shounen with big explosions and elaborate action scenes =p But it has some great quality animation, awesome characters and a really nice story.

Not a big fan of mecha thingies but I do enjoy the episodes. There is only one thing I REALLY hate about the series and that is the voice of a certain little girl. Those of you that has watched up to the current episode most likely know which one I mean. Sooo, to sum it up..not my favorite but I enjoy it a lot and will continue to watch it.

I'd suggest learning to use raws (as you'll be able to get an avi one easy enough) and a .ass file to play softsubs.

Trying using VLC(videolan something). I usually use MPC for all my videos but it sometimes lags on .mkv's. Works fine in VLC. If you need help finding anything just send a pm or post here.

One of the best summary episodes I have ever seen out of any Anime I have ever watched. It was just simply amazing. The style and the fashion in which they executed it was flawless.

The special ending was great. All of those images tugged at me a little.

Just got to see the new episode. I enjoyed most of it but curious to see what's going on in the future. Feel it's too much drama though :rolleyes: Rather see more comedy mixed in. Oh well, it can't be made for everyone to like it 100% I guess.

I expect Simon and Viral to become buddies for a bit or Yoko might save him/them. Maybe Ichigo style at the "end".

I don't know why, but TTGL doesn't have that "feel" it had during the first 15 episodes. It's missing the comedy factor and the overall coolness that each character displays. It doesn't have that with the new future episodes and apparently is hurting this anime greatly in my opinion. I'm hoping for a change.

And by the way, that Rossiu character is just getting more annoying as the episodes go on. I want that guy dead. Seriously, the guy is just asking for it.

Never been a big mecha fan but this series and Eureka 7 are something different...for me at least.

Rambling about the series wrapped in spoiler tags, feel free to skip to rambling about the espisode below it.
The reason that kept me watching at the beginning of this anime was the sheer coolness of Kamina (I think he even had the same voice as the guy who plays Zoro on OP). Killing Kamina -as much as it pissed me off- made me assume that this series is different in terms of plot and twists and I hoped that the author would be able to play it right...glad it did turn out to be really good and refreshing. This continues in 2nd arc, it begins with a twist and I love it, drama is what makes a twist a good one.

I never liked Rossiu even though I sympathized with him in the beginning. What he did sure fits his personality as a self centered bastard. So yes I agree with you yanniv , I too want to see Rossiu dead.

I bet Yoko has seen the trial and everything since it was broadcasted, so Yoko won't let Kamina's lagann get destroyed. I see her, Kittan, Kiyal, Leeron and of course Boota rebelling against Rossiu and breaking Simon out of prison. Yeah Simon's early comrades won't be lead by an ass like Rossiu or his government.

I am still loving the pace this show is going at. No slow points at all. It's freakin awesome. I could see Rossiu going down the dark side a mile away. He almost seems like a completely different person from before the time skip. Simon is better off no changing, if changing leads to becoming like Rossiu. Can't wait for some Simon, Viral teamage. XD

Rossiu is pissing everyone off. And for good reason too. He's pretty much at this point the misunderstood new leader. He wants to save everyone, now that he has a fancy spaceship. He is now the typical character that everyone is the show loves, but the viewers hate. He will be put in his place by the time the show is over for doing what he did to Simon.

Wow, after the slow start and the doubt I had about the last couple episodes, 20 really kicked some ass. It was basically an episode to let us know that things will return to it's old kick-ass self. About time.

Episode 21 rocked my socks. The ending that is. :p The first half was, as expected, a long flashback, which really the only show I have ever like flashbacks in, is in Bleach.

The latter part of the episode was great. Like I said, the ending was classic. So fitting that Kamina's rival take his place at the seat of the Lagann. I'm ready for some moon ass kicking. lmao.

Well, not sure how much of a final arc there is going to be, considering there is only 4 episodes left, so this is pretty much the final stretch.

As usual, the majority of the episode was epic. There were only a couple of parts with Rossiu that I though dragged a bit, but even then, I still enjoyed seeing the final sceens of his character in this story.

Like almost every ending in this show, I'm left wanting more. Damn whoever is timing all this, for being so mean and so awesome at the same time.

This is my favorite anime. Simon from ep 1 isn't simon from ep 23 in my eyes, I have alot of reasons to back this up.

Episode 1 Simon:

1. Makes chain noises when he walks.
2. Skull + Shades belt buckle.
3. Red shades on his skull.
4. Beastman operator.
5. Sash.
6. Cloth neck brace.
7. Cloth haramaki.

23 ’s Simon:

1. No noises.
2. Bandana.
3. Boota.
4. Gold rings on his trenchcoat.
5. Seamless pants.
6. Plastic haramaki.
7. Plastic neck brace.

Hmmm, I must say that I'm slidely disappointed how the Show ended, I mean that Nia died and Simon became an erimit, hmmm not the typical shonen-happy end, aye? But other than that I liked the show pretty much, because the animationstyle was quite great and new imo.

i will say....

My big dissapointment was there was too little kamina action for the last eps really. wasnt the best end but was good none the less. nia diyin was fine by me and simon being a hermit was ok, eitherway was cool the fight was good big slow to begin with for me. over all the the felling i get at the end is good and the ending is deff a good one. all though i still miss the good ol days wen kamina was still alive. :cry

There are still somethings that are left unclarified
For instance in the first episode we see Simon in command of the Chouginga Dai Gurren with Buta in his human form as his officer. The story however doesen't show how, when, where or if he ever finds out about Buta's transformation as he doesen't appear in the final battle in ep 27. Also , in the first ep Simon is targeting "The Great Dimensional Goverment", an enemy that is never even mentioned afterwards in the series. But after Nia's death in ep 27, Simon gives up his role as Gurren-Lagann's main pilot and fighter alltogether. Taking in count that Buta in ep 1 looks alot older than he does in ep 26 we can asume this happens a few years after the war with the Anti-Spirals but earlier than the "epilogue". Could this mean there's a chance for a sequel? I don't mean a second season, but perhaps a movie???*hopes*

I loved Gurren Lagann, it was, is, made of epic win. Most of it, anyway.

I BAWWWWW'D when Kamina died, but it was necessary for Simon to grow. Otherwise, the anime would've solely consisted of Simon constantly doubting himself and relying on Kamina, who would've taken care of everything w/o a sweat.

By himself, without an external motivator, ie. saving Nia, impressing Kamina, etc, Simon is just Simon. He's not as ambitious as his nii-san, which is why he gave Gurren Lagann to Gimmy after he rescued Nia. His role was done, then he just ended up wandering around with Boota.

Nonetheless, great anime. I just wish there were more of Kamina and Gurren Lagann, period. Chouginga Gurren Lagann was hella bomb, but so short-lived. :/

Kittan is alright, not as awesome as Kamina haha. Funny how he ended up liking Yoko as well.

Eh, the only thing I really liked about Kittan was his shotgun badass-ness against the Mugan and his AWESOME KINGU KITTAN GIGA DORIRU BUREIKAAAAAAA :yell:yell:zomg

But yea, other than that, he was okay.

Pre-timeskip, Lord Genome was also pretty ARRRRRGH and GAR when he busted out of his Lazengan and started duking it out BARE-FUCKING-HANDED with Gurren.

I'm... not sure what to think.

On one hand, it looks like a pretty interesting spinoff, and I kinda like how they took Viral's fantasy from ep25 (having a family, wife) and applied it here, but

on the other hand, I'll be kinda disappointed if this is the movie that we've been hearing about. I kinda wanted some GURREN LAGANN action, not really like, Tengen Toppa Final Fantasy .__.

erm...what happened to all the giant robots? that was the main part ofthe anime afterall.

i'm sure this will still be cery cool. i'm just pretty dissapointed there arn't any robots.

well it's still early so i shouldn't jump to conclusions. perhaps that isb't actually the movie, just a little short in the movie, like at the start or wateva.

Interview talks about the choice of the movie likening it to a RPG style characters....kinda hard to understand would love someone to translate. Also the particular shots character interaction blahblahblah....seems like creator commentary

uh, I don't really think it's the movie xD

as happy as I am that there are two new movies coming, I sincerely doubt that this new RPG thing is the movie. First of all, that japanese site is just an interview with the person who thought it all up and has absolutely no mention of this being the movie at all..... it just said it was a promotional video, but no mention of it coming into theatres as far as I can see.

second, who the hell makes a THREE MINUTE first trailer?! way too long. and last of all, we've already seen the whole goddamn movie! :yell who the hell puts in all the action and includes the end in their trailer?! like the only thing you could add to this story would be some more details here and there and still this thing wouldn't be longer than your usual anime episode OTZ;;;;

so no. I still have very big doubts as to wether this is really the movie. plus, the ANN article made it seem more like it was gonna be a recap of the series spread over 2 movies >__>; also, this "Parallel Works" just seems like a fun project with various guest scenario writers or something making small movies for fun to me >__>;;;;

Imo they're just going to retell the story of the anime in a few movies, same was done with Kiddy Grade or with NGE (they're at it), nothing more, nothing less, the animation will be a bit better, and maybe an alternate ending could also be possible.

@myfinalheaven: I don't think it's going to be a movie at all. I think it'll just be a bunch of small projects like this one, being released on that special website only. I really think this has absolutely nothing to do with the upcoming 2 movies whatsoever.

so in that sense, I completely agree with everything said the above post by PB|Ichigo.
