I'm not very sure too. A lot of talking in this episode. I can't wait for the subs. Though I understand that the beginning narration mentions Ichigo, Inoue and Grimmjow but timeline ain't sure.

A small conversation between shinigamis in 3rd squad mentions Kira (and probably how he should have been the one to replace Gin as captain) before he shows up at the gathering.

The 3rd Squad didn't seem really appreciating the captain at the beggining, but then it will went like predicted.

For a start into a completely new filler arc this was very satisfying. The opening was great, as in 'old-Soul Society-arc-badass' great and this arc seems to unfold into something fairly long and worthwhile. I hope they won't screw it up but so far it was a good start. The new captain isn't half as retarded and dorky as he looks, aside from his little 'problem'.

The art and animation of the episode is regular, and normally they make an extra effort when it's some important or expected part of the anime being aired, then again they didn't do anything special for this first episode. Perhaps they will keep the animation regular, or do their speciality, up and down every week. :fpalm

We'll just have to wait i guess.

I'll have to admit that I didn't do more than skim through this right now. The animation quality was quite nice, but I suppose they're trying to draw people in so it might not really stay that nice. It loved seeing Matsumoto whip out that sake stash in mere seconds.

The new OP and ED are nice. I love the focus on the Karakura kids in the ED. I miss them so. And I'll also have to agree on the thing about Ichigo's legs. They drew him very thin in that sequence anyway, but just wow.

I'm wondering if I'm the only one that has noticed that the Pinky(Szayel) fight never ended. If Ichigo is back in the real world now, after that terrible ending in the last episode, did he leave the rest behind or will they show the rescue of them also? I have much more I want to say because the anime is completely disrespecting the way the manga is going. They will never be able to piece it back together unless they come up with something to contradict themselves.

well, this was better than expected. not too much action in it, so there's not much of tricky animation going into it. i think i noticed them using the second movie's music in this episode and also Grimmjow's awesome release music [don't know if it's called that, but it's the first time i ever saw that in the series].

oh, and about the opening, it kind of reminds me a lot of the second opening [i think]. basically it seems like a rescue arc, and there's some rebellion against SS or something. oh and someone throws a huge chunk of earth/rock on someone else. but by the opening it sure seems as fun. bummer that they basically told the whole story with the opening though. and when are they going to consider Renji a danger to Soul Society if he keeps fighting against them ?

And how did Amagai cut through the train that disintegrate souls that touch it?? And how come he has 2 Zanpakuto, each different from each other, unlike Shunsui and Ukitake, who were said to be unique cases in the whole shinigami academy?

But I watched the opening and the ending, and the opening is ok (although I disliked the song). Is good to see Keigo, Tatsuki and co. again. About the ending, I actually disliked it.

First impressions of both are pretty good. The filler part of course takes it down a bit, even even with that, still both were done really well. The music is alright. No instant love of like with After Dark, but not bad songs at all. Pretty sure I'll be listening to the ending more. The animation was of course done great. As expected, both were very basic and had to do with the fillers.

I wonder what it says under the "Bleach" at the start...

I don't know why people are complaining. You already know what is gonna happend in the manga, so a new story would be something fresh. As for the timeline, it does'nt mattrer as the HM arc will resume where it left off. As I read in the official bleach jp page, this arc is authored by KT so it should be good and could tell a few things about other characters not so developed in the manga.

i saw that guy but didnt connect his clothing with the Quincy. if he was one it would make the fillers even weirder, with all people back in SS and then another Quincy who fights along with the Shinigami o.o

Amagai Shūsuke's second zanpakutō(the weird looking one) appears to be a tuning fork. When he pulled it out at the end of the episode, it sounded just like one, and it looks like a fancy version of an everyday tuning fork. Maybe it vibrates spirit particles, then allows him to shoot them out, sort of like Ishida's steleschnieder (sp?) sword thing uses vibrating spirit particles. Just a theory, of course.

You know these fillers seem to be worth watching its kinda lax compared to the HM arc but seeing the other shinigami in SS is worth it so I'm okay with these fillers. But I gotta say I still don't know where to place these and its worse since the ending had Chad&Ishidas new powers so I'm thinking Alternate Timeline. And did anyone else think the Princess girl and her bodyguards seem like Nel and her Fraccion going by the opening? But I liked the pace of the episode and the soundtrack... omg! OMG!!! It just get better every week. I am amazed at how eclectic the OST3 will be with the funky-jazz of the Vizard, the spanish themed musics of the Arrancar and now this, I don't know, Cowboy Bebopish classic guitar.

The only bad thing is that, just like in Ashido arc, the Menos are depicted as shit. Anyone can defeat them with almost no effort.

- Does Rukia arrive in the RW from SS, or is she automatically there? (Note: She stayed in SS at the end of the SS arc; re-arrived in the Bount arc; stayed in SS at the end of the Bount arc; and re-arrived in episode 114)

Ichigo probably will use his hollow mask. He had black aura attacks so he will probably have control of his hollow. Would seem stupid for them to take a step back and make him not be able to use it. :/ But then again...

The mod souls should be there. They were in the opening.

Your last point about Rukia is a moot point me thinks. lol. With the way that this arc is started anyways, with a complete reset, things like that really shouldn't be attempted to be explained...

Well, odds are they won’t be killing off the Captain. Simply because they have shown time and time again that they don’t have the courage to kill off characters even after they served their purpose and are no longer needed. ie: Ashido, Mod Souls, etc.
it looks like they’re gonna talk about the past…. but how does ichigo know rukia then?!!

I expected the first filler episode to be less talk but since we're dealing with and Alternate Timeline(since Ichigo is not in HM) then I guess those type of introductions are necessary. All in all, the episode was good. I liked the glasses guy's released Zanpakutou.

I got DB's release just fine. I'm surprised at the quality of the raw they got a hold of. Looks like they got a HD grab or at least widescreen. Does anyone know if Bleach is finally airing in HD because this release, video quality wise, looks incredible.

NVM: Looks like DB just upped the quality of the Bleach release on their own and they're releasing in H264.

If you're having trouble watching it, they recommend watching on a setup with the following minimum specs:

I haven't noticed a difference, runs the same for me. It's still a .avi file, so I wouldn't say it'd an HD release. It doesn't look near as good, when made full screen on my 20 inch wide screen, then actual .mkv HD releases. At full screen, this ep looks the exact same quality as all their other episodes.

Agreed. That is a pretty crappy system they're using to test the release. If anyone is having problem with the file, then they've got other issues other than their system.

I was looking at the release on a tiny 7" laptop monitor. Heh. At that size it certainly looks better than last week's release.

I had the same problems running the Dattebayo sub on my comp with Winamp and Windows Media Player. Downloaded VLC media player and it ran flawlessly. I recommend trying that if you still have problems playing it.

It's not HD, it's just that Bleach is airing in widescreen now. And the higher quality is probably due to the use of H264.

The difference is most notable during the credits, where the scrolling text looks much, much better than previous episodes.

And by the way, DB does their HD releases in AVI format (see: Naruto movie 3). AVI and MKV are simply containers and don't reflect the quality of the video.

My prediction: That girl getting kidnapped in the opening will have to do with the whole thing, and perhaps we'll be introduced to a new kingdom. *obviously*.

Watching the OP it felt like a Bleach movie to me, ie. smg not worth while. i mean yes, the animation is ok (but not as great as it was some time ago around 120-130) and yes the new taichou is not completly uninteresting and so and so but for the love of god what good is all that if it's not canon?? i admit that's one of my weaknesses, i hate it when the anime staff feels the need to be creative: they have a great story why don't they just stick to it??? i totaly appreciate the need for manga material in order to have the anime done, but if they are short on that why then not just go on hiatus for a while and then resume when they feel they have enough storyline in store to go on... anyway, what bothers me the most about this filler is that it starts right in the middle of an arc (and a pretty good one too!) and i can't see how they are gonna make it feet into the "real" story or are they just gonna say "ok this was fun, now it's over, pretend it never happened and let's go back to when Noitra was about to slash Grimjow" O_O ... at least the bount arc didn't disrupt anything, it was inbetween 2 arcs, it's easy to "pretend" it never happened, they don't even need to mention it. But how are we gonna go back to HM and resume the real stuff now?? Not to mention the new taichou who's not canon either ... arfff, this is all very upsetting.

I really liked episode 168. For a filler....I was surprisingly interested. I loved the new intro. Yay for the Karakura gang!! I've missed the Keigo/Mizuiro induced craziness. That will be fun. I cant wait to see them again! Plus lots of Shinigami interaction for the win! Byakuya cracked me up with his cool apathy for the 2 seconds he was in this episode. I love how he is always the only one with his eyes closed the entire captains meeting. Ten bucks he naps thru the meetings. ;D The new 3rd division captain is going to be an interesting fellow to watch. He and Shunsei will be good friends........

^^Yeah I agree this sucks but I think they should just turn Bleach into a OAV series kinda like Hellsing that way we'll always get are canon stuff without having to be wary of fillers. Also I think these fillers are an alternate timeline due to the narrators use of words in the beginning about the HM arc still going on and that tale will be told another time stuff he said.

Midorikawa Hikaru cracks me up even more as Kibune Makoto who did a BL Drama with Toriumi Kousuke called Brothers; now I surely know they are twins separated at birth. Horuichi Kenyuu voice was too recognizable as Amagai Shuusuke and looks like majority of Saiyuki Cast are in Bleach in Full Chorus. If I found out Hayami Sho's wife is in I am explode if she starts appearing in the future episodes.

I actually enjoyed this episode despite I usually dislike fillers.
I like Amagai and Kira is one of my favourite characters so I couldn't be happier.
However, there is one thing I don't understand : how come the Gillians are so weak. Ok, according to Hitsu in the manga, "captains don't even break a sweat" against them but come on... 4 nameless shinigamis easily kill 1 Gillian without the least scratch.
I also wonder (like many other people) how will Ichigo fit in the fillers. I don't see them leaving HM with Orihime just to come back later. Especially with Renji and Ishida being in the middle of a fight, and Rukia and Chad being half dead. It doesn't make sense to me.

A while back when this new Cap was first introduced in those pics, and being in the situation where all the other Caps are in now at KT about to square off with Aizen and Co, I assumed that since SS was "left unguarded" that....SURPRISE....This new Cap would be there to hold things down and protect.

But the intro threw me off. Ichigo saved Orihime already???...and now all this is going on? Idk what's going to happen now. I thought i had it all figured out :rolleyes:

OK, I know I haven't been around lately (see my post over in teh games section for what's been sucking up all my free time), but I did manage to watch 168 pretty soon after it was released. The following are just a few random thoughts following the episode:

1) new opening = ew. Just doesn't work for me. If you like it, great. but it cannot stand beside songs liek Rolling Star and Tonight tonight Tonight for sheer awesomeness in my opinion.

2) Liked the lighter tone of the episode overall. I kinda felt things were just getting heavier and heavier with the HM arc, adn this was a nice breath of fresh air to break that up. Does it still annoy me that it's filler? yup. but I think it's what is necessary at this time. kinda cleanse the pallette a little, if I can make that comparison. Also, the whole bada** captain who can't take even a cup of sake without passing out... nice touch. And then there's Shunsui saying maybe the two of them can become friends. nice touch.

3) I'm not sure about those cleaners being able to be destroyed... this is the first time we've seen that happen. Of course, the LAST time we saw those cleaners at all was when Yourichi & co. we running for their very lives through there, so it could be that it was never mentioned because Ichigo nad the rest didn't have the power to stop it at the time, and those capture stream walls hadn't been turned off like they were this time.

4) new ending = EW. Sorry. Again, if you like it, great. but for me, you can't tell me that it can stand beside Movin', or especially houki Boushi.

5) the encyclopedia was pretty good this tiem around. "Good Luck, Kira".


Well, that's about it. Please keep in mind that any opinions that I stated here are just that - my opinions. anyway, now that it's after midnight in my TZ, I'm off to bed... hopefully I cna get out from under all the work anvils to post more here later...

It was an OKAY epiosde. I understand that an introduction episode couldn't be something great. The new captain seems interesting, and they are giving Kira some spotlight.

no it isn't just you, the thing is a little bit IchiHime, not as much as something like Movin' was IchiRuki, but I think the point is that Inoue is one of the main focuses in the manga, and they are continuing that theme.

Overall I liked the ep. It was light, but I think that works for this arc, nice way to get us into it, personally I found it interesting to see the squad mechanics. I have high hopes that this fillers arc is going to be entertaining. I mean I'm not expecting something that is better than the manga, but I am interested in what the story will be and everything.

New captain is okay, not terribly interesting, but not a bad character. Personally I don't get how some people can be so against these fillers, I guess if I was a anime only watcher I would be a little peeved to stop in the middle of a arc, but for manga followers I think this will be a nice stop and provide a nice little reprieve from the constant battles, and hopefully we will get to see some of our old favorites back in action, perhaps even a little good ole fashioned high school fun that reminds us of the good ole Karakura days.

I also hope that Ichigo and his friends wont be included in this episode, I think especially Orihime is incredibly annyoing.

Yes,this episode is fine for a filler and I too think that this arc will turn out to be great!So,that's how fukutaichou command their division.It's interesting to see how much faith the 3rd Division put in him and the way he ordered his men to split is awesome!Amagai Shusuke is not a bad captain & Kifune Makoto is perfect although it's a mix of certain characters.I heard that this two characters has been officially approved by Kubo-sensei like Ashido and that Forest Of Menos episode.I think he will be the one guarding Soul Society with Kira and the others.

The fillers are worrying me, to be honest. I mean, I'm not a filler fan, but I like to watch them anyway because there are some parts of them that can be interesting and entertaining. I'm mainly concerned about the involvement of Ichigo and crew, because if this is taking place right after episode 167 then, well things are going to be a bit messed up in my opinion.

I've heard that Kubo has authoured it and, even if that's not true, has people have said he will have to authorize what's going on in the fillers so it doesn't ruin the manga plot. I'm guessing it won't mess up the Huenco Mundo plot too much. D:

I'm pretty sure that the only way this filler can be synched with the rest of the HM arc is that one of the espada has to come steal Inoue again. Otherwise, Nnoi is still alive, the captains are all still in SS, and Ichigo doesn't really have a reason to go back to HM. I'm kinda looking forward to this filler arc, I mean it has to be better than the Bount arc, but I really hope this filler doesn't destroy the anime the way Inuyasha's fillers did.

The bit at the beginning isn't to be taken literally. It's not like Ichigo rescued Orihime, grabbed everyone, went back to SS and have them ignore the manga. This is a side story that doesn't have a definite place in the timeline as of yet.

What really would be best is if they didn't try to place this in the timeline at all, just have a stand alone arc, sort of like a big movie, only without the animation quality. I guess this would suck for anime-only watchers, but really they are going to fail if they try to place this in the timeline, hell they already filled in part of the time before the arrancar arc, and the time in between the arrancar arc and the HM arc, so really we can't expect to believe anything other than a completely stand alone arc.

I believe that, unlike the previous filler arc, this arc will have no impact on the story from the HM arc and forward. For some reason this arc seems like Bleach movie 2.5 to me, only longer and spanning several weeks. It stated at the beginning of the episode that Ichigo had rescued Orihime, and that "the battle against the arrancar still rages on, but we will pause before continuing that tale". To me this just screams "Oh shit, we're getting too close to the manga so.......here's a made-for-tv movie! I think its easy to see that this new captain (and the new 3rd seat) will not live past this arc, and if he does, he'll probably just go back to hollow-subjugation duty and we'll never hear from him again, like Ashido. Good quality animation though, especially for fillers.

Szayel and Aizen's Lovechild, Kifune Makoto kicks butt; his husband Amagai Shuusuke didn't do so well with low alcohol tolerance like Aizen Sousuke who needs tea and caffeine to sober up, but I get that's why he loves him instead of his ex-husband that needs to show up sooner or later after the Fillergami Arc with Kubo Tite-Sama's hands all over the thing, which makes me happy to watch it for once.

Totally digging the new intro. the first part really makes it seem more like a highschool drama than an action/adventure. But I really dislike the look of that random ninja in the intro... I really hope they don't go introducing a whole new enemy type again.

btw, is it just me, or does Shuusuke looks unintentionally fat? That and i swear, Shuusuke's right hand man, the one with the glasses, his shikai looks like something out of a bad fanfic...

The totally new soundtrack is pretty cool though :D

I normally don't like the fillers very much at all, but this set looks like it has the potential to be very entertaining and interesting. The new captain was hilarious, and looks to be a badass. Also, I'm interested to find out why their original assignment took so long, and what the hell is that thing he uses? He clearly has a sword on his belt as well, in sealed form, so just what is it?

Also, I'm a huge fan of the new intro, it's very reminiscent of the original intro(s) to Bleach early on, with tie ins to school, a little bit of action, and a good sound. It feels like a return to roots, and I'm a fan.

I enjoyed the episode quite a bit; I thought it was refreshing, interesting, a bit intriguing, and (along with the new opening) carried a decent amount of potential.

However, does anybody know what the timing of this Arc is? The beginning narration claimed that the battle with the Arrancar still rages on, so isn't it safe to assume that this is simply continuing where we left off, and not going back in time to any particular date?

But is it even possible, or reasonable, that Ichigo and the gang made it out of Hueco Mundo with Orihime and are back to school in the real world? That seems like it would be very hard to reconcile with the manga, but I suppose it's possible...

Ichigo defeated Grimmjow and "rescued" Inoue; Rukia finished her fight with Aaroniero, but it severely injured; Chad finished his fight with Gantenbainne, but was left for dead after his run-in with Nnoitra; Renji and Ishida got Szayel pretty good, and their opportunity to escape is now open (but what about the maze-like corridors?).

So, what do you guys think, did the crew actually escape? It was set up in a way where it seems as though it is possible, but, for everyone that reads the manga, we all know this is highly unlikely and very much not what happens.

What is everyone's take on this? Did they escape? Is it a 'parallel' dimension or universe? Is this a flashback to a previous part of the story that we, very conveniently, missed? Or, even less likely, is it a flash forward to a later part of the story? All of these seem like they would be difficult to reconcile with the current state the manga storyline is in, but I can't seem to come up with any other alternatives. I honestly have no idea...What do you guys think?

Frank, think of it like this. They are taking the term "filler" to the most literal applied meaning ever. No, they didn't escape. I do believe that it would be best classified as a parallel dimension. For those of you who have seen it, think of Bleach as Mai Hime and now this arc as Mai Otome. Don't try and connect the 2, you'll only result in a headache. The best way to go about it is a huge side story that takes place around the same time, but not in the story that started it all. It's like movie in the series. If it wasn't for the way the cheezed us out of HM...
