Does anyone watch hockey. Lots of trades during the offseason!

I used to watch Hockey back in the late 90's, but that was when the NY Rangers were good. I watched a Rangers vs Ducks game at Madison Square Garden and it was a blast. However, haven't been following them as much in the last few years. Funny thing about the Rangers/Ducks game was that I was rooting for the Ducks (and they won) 'cause I was a big fan of Paul Kariya and the Finnish Flash, Teemu Selanne. So yeah, I'm so so so happy that Teemu finally got to hold the Stanley Cup. Congrats to the Ducks! As for the trades, I haven't followed closely though I should as two Devils players just went to the Rangers.

My fave name in Hockey has to be Miroslav Satan. I really hope he gets traded to the NJ Devils one day just because. XD

yep, adam's from Canada, so that means YES xD

been watching the habs mostly...and I follow the NHL more or less. too bad the habs went downhill since january >_> a buffalo-montreal series would've been much more fun to watch than what the relatively boring islanders-sables one... oh well o__o; . Not much trades/actions this offseason so many people are scared x__x; (but I have faith!! xD)

btw any team you're rooting for, 仮面の軍勢??

Heres a funny fact. I live in Florida...warm all year round...and we have a local hockey team, lmao. I don't watch it very often and the only times I went to see our team was when my uncle got us free tickets cus he was the radio broadcaster for the team (called the Pensacola Ice Pilots btw). I liked watching the games in a way but I loved watching the fights more, lmao.

No, they're keeping him for at least the coming season. If he plays well, they'll probably resign him but I highly doubt that. If Naslund goes, and Linden will probably become C if he doesnt retire.

Guy just tore up the freaking league this year.

My favorite team is the Avalanche. Hopefully Forsberg can pull them up enough to get somewhere in the playoffs.

Slev
04-09-2008, 12:18 AM
My teams are the Ducks in the west and the Caps in the east. I think the Ducks have a chance to go all the way to the SCF again, and I have high hopes for the Ovechkings to go deep into the playoffs.

I'd place my money on the Avs/Wild series being really close.

Dizzy
04-09-2008, 12:36 AM
I dunno, San Jose can probably give Anaheim a run for their money. Pretty sure it'll be one of them, unless Detroit can stop their annual playoff fail. And anyone could come out on top in the East, but the Washington Ovechkins are easily my favorite. Wish Kovalchuk could carry some Thrashers deeper in D:

And yeah, the Avs and the Wild are going to be a hell of a battle. I'd lawl if it was a reverse of '03 (Avs had the 3rd Seed and the Wild had the 6th, and the Wild came back down 3-1 to take it in 7).

Slev
04-09-2008, 01:42 AM
I fully expect Anaheim and San Jose to meet up this post-season, and I fully expect whoever wins that series to go on to win the cup. The Wings will just choke like they always do.

Kovalchuk has said he wants a change by next season. He's probably pissed about never winning a playoff game in six seasons. Pretty sure he wants to be traded.

I just recently started getting into Hockey. I have always been a huge Basketball, Football and Baseball fan and hockey never really interested me. But as of late I have REALLY started to like it and am looking forward to the playoffs.

Dizzy
04-09-2008, 03:54 AM
I could've seen the Thrashers slipping into the playoffs if Don Waddell hadn't decided to coach as well as be GM. That was just a terrible mistake -_-
They should've done everything in their power to keep Savard, too. The entire organization's just been awful.

Hopefully Kovalchuk can get more consistent, Kozlov can regain his playmaking skills, and Enstrom, Esposito, and Lehtonen and develop into stars. Otherwise, they aren't going anywhere. And if Kovalchuk gets traded, they won't even qualify as a team anymore, and their only hope will be to aim for John Tavares :/

Being a Thrashers fan is painful business.

Slev
04-09-2008, 04:07 AM
Kovalchuk really needs a playmaker center. The last time I watched a Thrashers game his center was Bobby Holik, who is a checking line center. That just won't work for a guy like Kovalchuk. Ovechkin at least has Backstrom to back him up, Kovalchuk has no one really.

Whether he becomes Hossa v.2 or not, I don't see him staying when his contract expires.

Since my team didn't make it to the playoffs this year, I'll have to default to my hometeam (Flames). Although honestly I don't have too much hope for them against San Jose. (I'm a horrible fan. XD)

My boyfriend is a HUGE Avs fan though, so I know I'll be watching every game of that series.

I'm actually looking forward to that series a lot. It should be pretty heated and physical. Still, I doubt the Sharks will have many problems. :x

Dizzy
04-09-2008, 05:15 AM
Eventually Bryan Little's going to be that center. I just hope Kovalchuk stays long enough for that to happen.

And on the Sharks/Flames series, Iginla, Regehr, Phaneuf, Kipper, and Keenan are clutch playoff guys, and the physicality of the Flames could make it interesting. The Sharks are going to win, but it could be a tight one.

Anyone want to throw down picks for tomorrow's games? I might as well, just to see how many I can get.

Pittsburgh 5 Ottawa 2, Malkin with the game-winner.
Devils 3 Rangers 1, Langenbrunner with the game-winner.
Sharks 4 Flames 3, Marleau with the game-winner.
Avs 3 Wild 2 OT, Statsny with the game-winner.

Anyone else want to give it a spin? ;o

San Jose vs. Calgary - Sharks in 6
Minnesota vs. Colorado - Avs in 7
Anaheim vs. Dallas - Ducks in 6

Montreal vs. Boston - Habs in 4
Pittsburgh vs. Ottawa - Pens in 5
Washington vs. Philadelphia - Caps in 7
New Jersey vs. New York - Devils in 6

San Jose vs. Anaheim - Ducks in 7

Montreal vs. New Jersey - Habs in 6

Dizzy

Well, we were sure wrong about Devils-Rangers. 4-1 (Callahan with the game-winner), what a slaughter.

One of my friends brought up a couple of points for the Rangers - they've gone 7-1 against the Devils this season, Lundqvist has a sparkling record against them (10 goals against in 9 games), and they have 3 scoring lines to roll, with Gomez, Jags, Shanahan, Drury, Straka, Dawes, Avery, and Dubinsky, and the top 7 defensemen of Roszival, Backman, Malik, Staal, Mara, Tyutin, and Girardi is rock-solid too. Hell, even though they don't have a superstar or anything, they could give Anaheim a run for their money.

And here I didn't even know most of these guys' names.

Meanwhile, the Devils roll Parise, Elias, Madden, Zubrus, Langenbrunner, Gionta, and Zajac on offense, and Martin, White, and Oduya on defense. Brodeur, as good as he is, won't be able to steal the series. He's getting old now and wasn't too great for last year's playoffs. Hell, he won't even match Lundqvist's skills.

Methinks I might have underestimated them Rangers :zomg

Pens 4 Sens 0 (Roberts with the game-winner) isn't too far off from mine I guess, though I figured that the team with the second-most goals in the league (1 behind the Habs) could score at least once. Guess not. Roberts and Malkin cleaned up pretty well though, I'd say Malkin's even better than Crosby now. This series'll probably be a brutal massacre.

I got Avs 3 Wild 2 OT (Sakic with the game-winner) right, though not the game-winner. Thought Sakic would've been too obvious, so I went for the young guy instead. Hopefully Forsberg doesn't shatter any limbs and they can get out unscathed. I'm still reeling from the time Sakic, Smyth, and Statsny were all out, with injuries to Theodore, Svatos, and Finger thrown into the mix, that was just painful. It'd be nice to have Svatos back, but the Avs can probably live as long as Theodore doesn't start sucking.

Oh, and Nick Schultz is hurt. This bodes very well for the Avs' offense. Parrish went out too, so Minnesota's depth is compromised a bit. Not like they can match the Avs anyways, though :zomg

Didn't see the Flames' 3-2 win (Yelle's game-winner) coming either. For all of the Sharks' finesse and flash and dash, Calgary's thuggery may just beat them. Iginla, Kipper, Phaneuf, and Regehr were great, though the Sharks' top scorers weren't entirely shut down either. San Jose is now on a 3-game losing streak, btw. This could be painful for them.

Now that I'm done with my boring commentary that nobody read, I guess I'll pick tomorrow's games and my playoff bracket.

Wings 4 Preds 1, Zetterberg with the game winner.
Habs 4 Bruins 2, Koivu with the game-winner.
Anaheim's 3 Dallas 2, Selanne, Schneider with the game-winner.
And San Jose will avenge themselves 4-3, with a winner from Michalek.

Round 1:
Habs in 5
Pens in 5
Caps in 6
Rangers in 6
Wings in 4
Sharks in 7
Avs in 7
Ducks in 6

Round 2:
Habs in 6
Pens in 7
Wings in 6
Ducks in 7

Round 3:
Pens in 7
Ducks in 6

Final:
Ducks in 6

So yeah :zomg

Ah. It doesn't get much better than coming home from work and reading the headline, "Flames Steal Home Ice from Sharks," at TSN.com. I'm not expecting my favorite team to pull off the major upset, but this gives me some big hope.

Hey, Dizzy, picking Sakic for the game winner is always a good idea when it comes to the Avs. Especially in OT, where nobody has done it more than Super Joe.

Dizzy

Dammit, why did I have to start watching hockey again. The last few minutes of the Flames/Sharks game were so intense, I could barely watch. But lo and behold, they pulled through. Yelle is my hero. :uhuh

Things are heating up here in Calgary. The car flags and jerseys are coming out, "Go Flames Go" promos are all over the radio, and the cops are starting to patrol the "Red Mile" downtown once again. The excitement will most likely not reach '04 levels again, but it's still fun while it lasts.

Watched some of the Avs/Wild and Pens/Sens games as well. Super Joe scores yet another OT winner, and the Sens look like they're going to be eaten alive - which would be enjoyable to watch if I didn't have such a strong disdain for Sidney Crosby. XD

Dizzy

Well, it is April. Maybe the Sharks are ready to hang up their skates and hit the golf like every year. The only time the Sharks looked alive was during the last couple minutes of the game. Well, I guess they looked okay at other times, but they seemed to really lack confidence.

Joevertime strikes again. Should have seen that coming.

Sens vs. Pens: http://assets.espn.go.com/media/apphoto/70e2b9f0-2b9f-418f-a798-7a909ced290e.jpg

Is this becoming the new Canadian Bleachers Fan Club?

Yeah, I really should've guessed. This is what, his 8th now? XD

Can't believe we have to wait so long for Ovechkin playoff action D:

Oh yeah, it's Sakic's 8th. Joe Sakic is so awesome. It was amazing two years ago when he got his record-breaking 7th Playoff OT winner but didn't initially claim to have scored it. Video review revealed the truth, but Sakic tried to give the credit to one of his teammates at first, though he must have known he touched the puck. He's awesome.

Besides following the Flames, Washington is the team I'm most interested in now. Is Ovechking going to have immediate success? Considering how jubilant he is when he scores a regular, empty-net goal, just how mental would he go to score a playoff goal? Too bad I'll be at work when the game's on TSN.

Dizzy
04-11-2008, 01:44 AM
Looking pretty epic right now. I was close to calling the Wings, plus I picked the game-winner :zomg
The Habs too, though I didn't realize Koivu wasn't playing this one.

Anaheim and San Jose are gonna be interesting though. Namely because the Ducks are the leading Stanley Cup candidate and the Sharks desperately need to avenge themselves or risk going down the drain right away.

I don't hate Crosby, I just think he's hella overrated and can't compare to Ovechkin or Malkin. And he sure as hell isn't touching Gretzky's records. But the reputation as a whiner/diver isn't really deserved. I've heard both sides of the story, and I don't think he's a baby or anything :/

And yeah, Sakic is just amazing. If he hadn't been injured three months, he easily could've taken the Avs to the top of the division. And if he wasn't here right now, I'd call it Wild in 6, Forsberg or no. Right now, he's everything to that team.

Know what would be awesome? The Avs fighting their way to the Stanley Cup Finals (coming back from a 3-1 deficit in games against Minnesota on the way), and then going down 3-0 against the Habs. And then, Patrick Roy somehow comes out of retirement and shuts out the last four. Followed by the entire city of Montreal lynching Mario Tremblay :zomg

My god, that would be the most awesome thing ever :wtf

Turco was brilliant, the Ducks played terribly, and Nabokov came out and shut out the Flames. Could be a harbinger for a low-scoring playoff :/

Wild 2 Avs 1, Gabs with the winner.
Caps 5 Flyers 3, Oves with the winner.
Pens 3 Sens 1, Malks with the winner.
Rangers 2 Devils 0, Drurs with the winner.

They only had 2 goals in the 2 games they had Alfredsoon-Spezza-Heatley intact, too. How sad, considering how Fleury and the Pens' defense aren't very good.

They had to pay for the Spartans thing, though :hm

eeh, well sens' offense really sucked in the end of the season so I'm not too surprised. The Pens' D and Fleury have been OK so far... not particularly good though. Sens really, really, really sucked.

lol what was so wrong with the spartan thingy?? xD; I didn't see it so...

You have to admit, that was total injury hell. Forsberg, Statsny, Wolski, Smyth, Svatos Hannan, Clark, and Theodore, all damned good players and all injured for most/all of the series or in Theodore's sick enough with the flu for Game 1 to drop his hot streak into an icy hell.

Not saying they didn't get outplayed, considering the shot total and all, but they easily should've taken it to 6, maybe 7, and had an outside chance at an upset.

Bleh, also annoyed that Budaj didn't get a chance until it was too late. Not that he did himself any favors, but he was great in the first two games.

Anyways, I'm betting that the vast majority has hopped onto the Detroit bandwagon, so I guess I'll hit up the Stars next. They've been looking pretty good against the Sharks so far.

I was expecting a closer series between the Detroit and Colorado but I guess injuries plague Colorado in this series. Theodore actually surprised me this season since he got Colorado to the playoffs but he lost his composure in the last game letting in some soft goals. Anyways I think it will be Detroit and Penguins or Montreal in the cup finals. And the Dallas Detroit series will probably be a good one to watch. As for the eastern side I was expecting a sweep between Pens and Rangers but rangers somehow won last game(AVERY piece of crap.....) and the Montreal and Philly series is very surprising for I can’t believe Flyers are ahead. Dallas up 2-1, midway through the third, Turco standing on his head.

I like their odds :3

edit: HELL YEAH, TURCO WITH HIS FIRST WIN IN THE JOE, AND THE GAME-WINNING ASSIST

edit2: Flyers out, that was pretty embarassing. Fleury finally stopped sucking though, and I'm liking their chances against the Detroit Dead Things. Anyone else feel that the East games aren't nearly as intense as they are here in the West?

Also, let it be known that Sidney Crosby's ridiculous, scraggly little playoff stache is the most hideous thing ever.

^that will never happen Detroit is going to win the cup they can match the Pens firepower up front and as for the Blueline Detroit by far has the better Blueline.

As for Crosby scoring the game winner in a shootout I don't think thats possible since there are no shootouts in the playoffs just Overtime until there is a winner.

Well game one between the two teams start today so we'll see how the first game will turn out.

This is a worldwide conspiracy, I tells you!

I'm lawling at the Wings domination here, they're just flying and the Pens are hard-pressed to get past their own blueline.

And when did Fleury and Osgood get so good, they sucked last time I checked. I claim steroids.

Bettman needs to make a rule mid-game outlawing the use of Holmstrom's butt. Call it the Sean Avery Rule Wannabe.

From The Onion:
http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/features_hockey.article.jpg

edit: Swedish Wings are 2 KOOL 4 SKOOL.

I predict that Samuelsson will singlehandedly outscore the Pens in this series.

edit 2: Lawl, Samuelsson just literally got raped by Gill. Literally on top of him, in buttsecks position :lmao

Red Wings are like some kind of bloody Swedish machine. Was an Ikea manufacturing plant a required field trip for the entire staff or something?

edit 3: Last hurrah for the Pens, watch as a ref catches the puck and says a Wing shot it over the glass.

edit 4: Wings take this 4-0. Too bad for Fleury, he was great until he self-destructed those last two minutes.

Samuelsson took a lot of punishment this game, I've got some newfound respect for the Wings now. Playing like they had the puck on a string the entire time.

Plus they shut Crosby and Malkin down, automatically making their wingers useless too. Well, maybe Malkin just sucked.

Still, great game from the Swedish machine.

Yes I was expecting a high scoring game from both teams certainly Detroit is doing it but the Pens aren't. I thought the Pens offense would be able to get pass Detroit blueline but I guess not. Only chance of Pens to get some scoring is if Detroit puts Hasek in net.

The Filppula goal was epic, just another example of a single Wing outworking two Pens and the goalie.

Didn't realize the Pens were so dirty either, though when you have Jarkko Ruutu on your team, I guess anything can happen.

Also, Osgood's a pussy, Roberts barely even clipped him in the shoulder and he falls like a sack of potatoes and doesn't get up for ten seconds, what a joke.

Well this might not be that interesting, but I have always been a fan of playoff hockey, it's one of the most intense sporting events of the season. Anyways I've never been a big fan of Hockey since I haven't grown up with it, but this year I decided to get NHL 09 for the xbox because I had heard it got sports game of the year awards, and I have to say it's the most fun sports game I have ever played. If you live in Oregon you are probably closest to the Sharks or Canucks, although you really aren't that close to either. :x Honestly, Bettman made a horrible deal with Versus for rights to show the NHL, so it is kind of hard to see games if you don't have a local team.

The best you can do is stream them off of http://www.hockeywebcasts.com/ or http://www3.myp2p.eu/competition.php?competitionid=&part=sports&discipline=icehockey. You can also buy Center Ice but it probably isn't worth it unless you are a hardcore hockey fan.

And I recommend the Ducks of course. :fu

Oh, and the BAP mode in NHL09 is pissing me off. 26 GP, 68 points, and I'm still in the AHL.

Spartan27

I'm not going to buy center ice, it's just not going to happen for me, I know games are on Versus, but really you're right, it's not a great network. I might try and follow the Canucks, I like Vancouver, I have a couple connections up there.
