He has tall and bushy brown hair with a pony tail. His skin is slightly dark and he has dark brown eyes.
He dresses in the standard shinigami black outer kimono and inner white kimono, although it is usually not done up properly, threading them through the obi (sash) around his waist so it falls just above his knees.

Zanpakutō:
His zanpakutō is a nagamaki. It is like a standard katana, except the handle is as long as the. It is 1m in length, with a 50cm blade, and a 50cm handle. Both the handle and the sheath are black. The blade also has no guard above the handle. It is usually carried around through the sash on his waist, in his hands, or over his shoulder(s).
The name of his zanpakutō is 'Hinote no Shishi' (Lion of the Flame), but also known as 'Shishiō' (Lion King).
The true form of 'Hinote no Shishi' is a normal lion, with a flaming mane and flaming tail tip.
The Shikai (Initial Release) of his zanpakutō is activated by the command 'Kogasu' (Burn), making the blade ignites in flame. The command 'Shōkyaku' (Incineration) can trigger its special ability where the blade becomes a long, thin, flaming whip.
The Bankai of his zanpakutō is called 'Shishiō no Nenshō Tategami' (Burning Man of the Lion King). A flaming aura is created, spiking up his hair when Kai releases his reiatsu. His hair and eyes also become flame coloured, and golden fur covers his shoulders, back and chest. The zanpakutō itself becomes a very tall golden staff, with a black, volcanic glass blade, engulfed in red flame. The blade can also extend, able to be whipped around.
The zanpakutō also gains the ability 'Dai Rekka' (Great Raging Flame). The blade can ignite to a blue coloured flame when whipped about, creating a lion shaped fire attack.
