What Anime would you recommend to anyone?

As the title state what anime would you recommend to people who maybe don't know what anime to start watching or need a bit of an idea to start their flame in the mind of anime?

It would be easy just to name off animes that I like to a person, but to recommend anime that appeal to all kinds of people and not just me.

One Piece: Adventure/Comedy
Naruto: Action/Adventure/comedy (kind of)
Bleach: Action/Supernatural
Trigun: Classic/Adventure&Action
Fruit Basket: Romance/Comed

Taking off current anime series like Bleach and Naruto, i would like to mention some series that marked me:

GetBackers, Fate/Stay Night, Death Note and Code Geass.

Death Note, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion.

No more no less. Depends on the favourite genre of the customer.

If there was someone similar to me I would recommend Claymore to start them off, because its violent, awesome, and doesn't have all the cliches that turn some people off of anime (over exaggerated expressions, people launching energy from their hands and flying through fifty mountains, etc.) Basilisk is pretty good too...I guess seinen type anime for newcomers...

For people who are turned off from anime because of violence or something, I would recommend something like School Rumble, because its not hard too understand or anything and its hilarious. For those into romantic comedy I would say something like Lovely Complex.

FMA Berserk and Naruto the first 2 are slightly westernized animes and can interest an non anime watcher .The theme is western which help the new watcher to get accustomed to the anime verse

Oh yeah and Full Metal Panic (original, Fumoffu and Second Raid) and Claymore.

Full Metal Alchemist - definitely since its my favourite anime, was also my first. Just really appealing characters, has a great storyline and music and everything!

Full Metal Panic - Action and comedy with a hint of romance for the shippers haha XD. High quality, enjoyable stuff.

Bleach - Well, of course XD. Characters, plot, everything! Perhaps lacking in the music department but thats alright haha.

Code Geass - Has great characters and one of the most amazing plots ever!

Kekkaishi - Action, comedy and hint of romance as well XD. Its funny, great action and great characters. Very likeable and easy to watch.

If I was to recommend one anime show and one show only to any random persons, I would say watch Cowboy Bebop. Nothing else to me could make a better impact on someone, both someone who watches anime and hasn't seen this and someone who has never seen any anime. Subbed or dubbed wouldn't matter. Both rock.

fantasy/boys action: full metal alchemist
mystery: death note
comedy harem: love hina
comedy non-harem: host club (it's actually a reverse harem but what the hell)
magical girls: sailor moon ( i had to plug that in somehow lol)
romance: school days (*evil laughs*)
mecha: code geass, gurren lagann (evangelion is the more classic, but older)
drama: gankutsuou (my personal all-time favorite anime)
