What would happen if Tousen was not blind........
then Aizen would have no need for him on his side and he would never made him ally.

Not quite sure about this one, his bankai only hinders the senses of his opponent.
not much would be different in my eyes (puns ftw:lmao)
he would probably still be on Aizens side, his zanpakuto would be the same (its not like it was his from the beginning:p)
he may not have as strong as sense of justice, but you can never be sure
i really doubt he would have joined aizen. aizen wont even bother with him.
for example if tousen wasnt all justice like but still blind then Aizen would have killed him. if he is blind and justice like he is on Aizen side and if he had sight he would have been on the good side right now.
he probably wouldn't wear the Star-Trek thing... and more than likely his Zanpakutou would be totally different~ wonder what just his Shikai is... maybe a mini-bubble where you cant see? XP
most likely I think he wouldn't have ever met Komamura the way he did... or develop the same sense of justice... it's likely he might not have ever even became a Captain if the series of events in his life changed enough
hmm we dont know yet how his life affected sajin but its likely that if he wasnt blind then their relationship would be diffrent. maybe he will say something wrong and sajin would have ate his face?

his zanpaktou would stay the same, the physical conditions do not influence the powers of your sword...it the same thing as if I would say if Ukitake hadn't Tubercolosis he wouldt have wind and lightning powers...
or develop the same sense of justice...
maybe not, but wasn't this believe in justice thing just because of his (Girl)friend?
anyway, I agree with shdo, he wouldn't be Aizens ally...

well seriously, do you think they would have given him a bankai that inhibits senses if he was some normal dude? most people have stuff related to their personality like Aizen and his manipulative tendancies~
thats right, personality...not physical handicaps.
physical handicaps affect personality too... someone who's blind has a strong grip on the other senses including the "6th sense" of sensing reiatsu... if he grew up with a normal life he might not have met that girl or would have relied on vision etc too~ it's almost a certainty to me he wouldn't have had the same bankai

Tousen can see pretty well for a blind guy. In chapter 250, he's watching Ichigo and crew after they split up when he explains the privaron espada.....Aizen must have some really good televisions
First off, i like tousen, hes an interesting character, and i love his zanpakuto
but it isn't unreasonable for his zanpakuto to not be related to his personality, because it wasn't always his zanpakuto (wasn't it his friends who died)
thats how i always read that scene

If he wasn't blind then his Bankai would be sort of pointless. >_>

Some people doubted his blindness when he was watching the invaders on a monitor. It wasn't even verified whether the screen works on riatsu sensing or not..

Tousen can see pretty well for a blind guy. In chapter 250, he's watching Ichigo and crew after they split up when he explains the privaron espada.....Aizen must have some really good televisions

either that, or tousen's visor enabled him to see. so he is blind w/o it, and is not blind with it. i think the visor doesn't really provide the actual vision (i mean the color scheme and such), but is good enuf (than the predator's vision) for him to see well.
and if he wasn't blind, he would have seen justice in a different way and may have a different fate with his "girlfriend" >.>

Then he would not be a character in Bleach. He represents blind justice, and blind "justice".
So if he was just a regular seeing dude, he would not exist. There would be no meaning for him to be there.
he dont really need to be blind to be 'blind justice' and btw if he was blind justice he would have fight Aizen and would simply act as hyper byakuya where he only hold the laws.
he is more like robin hood.

Can't see any Robin Hood resemblance... he doesn't steal from the rich. He just kills whatever he thinks is not justice. While proclaiming to see "least bloodshed".
And as for his blindness, in real life it may not be, but in a story, he would be blind to emphasize that aspect of his character. Much like Aizen's name, sword name, and abilities all express his manipulative nature.
how come aizen name express his maipulative nature?
as for the robin thing, i said more because he is fighting the current rulling powers with illigel to reach 'good\just' result.
he is by far not blind justice, and since we dont really know what he knows we are the real blind ones.

I dont know about him really being blind.....there was one HM episode where he is "watching" the screen where Ichigo and Co. are invading. I thought that was pretty funny. whoops! he definitely cant see the screen. maybe it was like a reiatsu sensor or something.....ha.

If he was not blind, I think his skill balance would be quite different. The databook currently lists him as having very good kidou skills. I think its quite fair to assume that his sensitivity to reiatsu is far beyond anyone else in the manga. That should have affected his affitnity for kidou, and perhaps influenced his low close combat ability...

That episode wheer "Tousen" was watching them in Huendo Mundo or in some way seeing was probably just a plot hole. Several characters in various anime (and cartoons) if they are deaf or blind, sometimes the creators forget this and make it seem as if they could see. I know for Toph, from Avatar, they have accidently made her see at times when it was impossible for her to see (One example is she told Aang to cover up his Arrowswhile in the water, she cannot see his arrows even if she was on land) so its probably just something like that.

I'd like to reiterate the point that Majority Espada made. :D Tousen has made many references that he can see in some form. Not only the instance that Majority Espada mentioned, but also in his fight with Zaraki, Tousen made a comment about the way Zaraki was smiling. So.... really... It's not like he is even blind. He compensates for it... somehow...

maybe tousen is just fooling everyone and he isnt blind at all...maybe he doesn't even exist, he's just one of AIzen's illusion...maybe Aizen doesn't exist either, he is just an illusion created by his former self...maybe Aizen made a copy of himself inside a diary

That wouldn't be half bad. Maybe since he has no eyes, his reaitsu sensing is WAY above average. You would be able to sense the locations of persons, but would it be good enough to see facial expressions? or a monitor? LOL. something is definitely up here.

If everything is made up of spirit particles, then the movement of muscles would cause a fluxuation/concentration of spirit particles in that certain area, which Tousen would be identify. Zaraki smiling would bring a change to his facial expression and the muscles (although smiling takes the least amount of muscles) would concentrate for a second, perhaps enabling Tousen to see the change in facial expression. As for the monitor, I'm not too sure, lol.

Well, Tousen has never used anything to aid himself, as far as we can tell. Honestly, he walks, talks and fights as if he isn't even blind. I doubt Kubo wouldn't have reason for making a blind character who isn't actually blind. It's no coincidence. It's not like Kubo had him once randomly 'see' something, so it's not a plothhole or anything. It's always been like this with all the examples. So there must be more going on.

Yeah, you are right. After all, Tousen said that he's never not been able to sense someone's aura when Komamura was around him, so I imagine his sight has something to do with that. We may never get any more information on the subject though.. but it could come up in a future fight with Tousen.
That might be kind of scary... You never know what could happen if he wasn't blind! Yeah and then he would also have been hypnotized by Aizen's Kyoka Suigetsu and Aizen might have killed him... that's my theory anyway...

i don't know whether it was bad translations in the manga and anime, but i never understood the reaction of Unohana, and furthermore how she could've come to the conclusion that Kaname had been working for Aizen before Aizen told her.
if he really could see then perhaps he is under the spell, and perhaps his sensory abilities were off at the time when he met komamura, or to a lesser extent. who knows though?

That is a good point Ceria. I always interpreted it as Unohana reacting to the fact that Aizen said "a person would become my completely hypnotized slave." She knew that you would have to not see it in order to avoid being plagued by its effects, meaning that Tousen could defeat Aizen, yet Aizen knew this, which is why he recruited Tousen in the first place. So he completely denied her thought of Tousen being the savior.
Aizen would have to kill anybody who could threaten his power, which is why he needed Tousen on his side.

Aizen is the type though to be rid of the things that he doesn't need or will be in his way. He killed central 46 without a second thought. If it was just that Tousen would be able to betray, Aizen just would have "removed" him. Especially in the early going. I think that there is something more to the story...
