How far are we as a world actually willing to go for oil?

You hear about it all the time. Oil prices, Gas prices, Heating costs, ect ect. Oil effects our daily life in many ways, making it an extremely valuable resource.

However, is oil creating tension between countries?

Is it possible that conflicts with China, who owns many refineries in Africa, could arise in the future? Possibly even causing a war?

And even currently, is the war in Iraq not for the sake of the people, but for the sake of oil?

Are we spilling blood for this precious resource and spending millions and billions of dollars on military supplies ect just for oil when that money could have went to finding eco-friendly alternatives for the resource that will soon be gone?

Well yes we are fighting in Iraq for oil. We (United States) want to gain a new foothold in the middle east, one of the things that people forget is that the U.S is not that happy with the Saudis right now, the vast majority of the 9/11 bombers came from Saudi Arabia, so the United States is right now trying to gain a new foothold in the middle east which also has a large oil reserve.

We certainly weren't going there in hopes of bringing democracy to Iraq, or punishing the terrorists since Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, we went there to get oil. If our goal is to stop repressive regimes, and spread democracy we would be better served to start with the Saudis, we also would be going into places such as Burma, Uzbekistan, Syria, Iran, Sudan, or any number of other places, the reason why we went to Iraq was because they oil and they are well positioned, it also helps that they could sell it better to the American public.

In the overall scheme of things oil will cause future conflicts, China has had a lot of foresight in this regard and conflicts at least diplomatic and economic ones will most likely occur in the future. In terms of militarily, a lot of the future conflict will actually be over water rights, due to the increase in population in correlation with global warming, at least thats what most analysts foresee.

Energy companies want to bleed this resource dry because they are making record profits, do you really think Shell or Exxon care about our concerns? Of course they don't.

Well the oil in food does not come from crude oil, oil in food comes from food like olives and other vegetables so I don't think we have to worry about that. If this was supposed to be sarcastic than I apologize, but yes the world has a huge problem.

the genocide in sudan is carried away with chinise weapons and money, for sudanese oil. the chinise gov defend the sudanise gov from sanctions.
oil is already kill millions. find a clean alternative now, there are countless reasons why.

fact is, Bush wants some money in his pocket... he has the entire government and most of the US in his pocket, deceiving them with the innocence of his ignorance and replican agenda... Alaska has more oil than the middle east, but we're not even over there...

Well I can't believe I'm defending Bush, but he does want to go into Alaska for its oil, it's more the democrats who want to protect the wildlife reserves up there that would be threatened by the oil industry.

Otherwise I agree.

going there wont solve anything, a clean alternative will solve most of the world problems.

You're right as well, we need to find clean alternatives or else we will see global war at some point in time. it is in our best interest to find these alternatives, there is even money to be made in these fields.

this years auto-show had very cheaply made hybrids too... and a lot of vehicles that ran on ethanol and other fuel-types almost as efficiently as gasoline... i dont think it'll be very long before a nation-wide shift, like the HD-TV signal broadcasting

I hope so, it's not just cars that need to be fixed, but also energy in general. I think we are going to see a shift eventually, it's just that it needs to happen now, and not years from now.

did you see the Nobel Peace Prize awards recently? Al Gore won for his theories on global climate shift... a huge part is that we need to change RIGHT NOW in every aspect, but we've already caused irreversable damage to the diamond-in-the-rough we were blessed with (Earth)

I am Personally am for the development of alternative fuels, like Hydrogen cells, Ethanol, is, actually not as good for the environment, as once thought, plus the price of corn and sugar will go up with it, thus cost push inflation occurs. I would like to see more mass production of this new hybrid car that runs on a lithium battery over 100 miles per gallon and its not extremely slow, i mean its no jaguar, or porche, but, it gets a relatively good speed and its high gas millegage is attributed to the fact that, the lithium battery can power the car up 60 miles an hour! though it isn't a porch or a jag its over $100,000 in US dollars, because the Lithium battery cost so much to make. SO if we could develop things like this Hybrid Car that in explained or rapidly develop other alternative fuels, but you know maybe Cold Fusion will be fully developed so we don't, even have to worry about Oil. That is if Exxon Mobile's and Hailburtons lobby, doesn't stop it. Unfourtunetly it's lobby currently holds the high office of the United States governments executive Branch, and is also President of the Senate :(
