Anime or Manga: Which do you prefer?

I've watched and read both and i think the anime is better, though the manga's also awesome. I enjoyed the new alternate ending, though the original manga ending was more epic and had more depth. But as Light Supporter the Anime Ending is just more favourable.

I adore anime and manga both.
Takeshi Obatas drawing skills are magnificent,character design is awesome,plot is addictive and interesting.Openings are great also,and i quess i liked the first one the most.At first in manga Light was quite normal,and in anime his God complex was showed almost imidiately imo...however i still like him.He is completely different than the other anime main characters,and thats what i like.I was trying to download Death Note the movie,but damn,the torrent was fake.It was a Russian porno,so beware O.o.I was like WTF and LMAO at once.I will never download anything again,without making sure that i am downloading the right thing.Anyways,the dark,epic,interesting and mysterious plot is what i seek in the anime.I quess DN has it.
Oh and about ending-i liked the one in manga much more.

LOL, well if it's any consolation, Near would have lost if not for Mikami and Mello. Although i didn't like Light as much cause he killed L (yes, i'm bias that way xD) but seeing him go out in such a pathetic manner in the manga was rather painful to watch. The only thing i wished was that some sort of homage was paid to L. Like at least the other detectives should think of him, "He was right all along..." or something, anything!! With this regard, the anime fared better. We got to see a mirage of L at least. <333

I just finished watching the Anime, and oddly enough...I like the Anime ending better than the manga ending....Guess it was the way Raito went out...I thought his death in the manga was pretty pathetic, but I liked the Anime ending with L in it...and not so much "I don't want to die" screams....

Yeah there are still no subs out. I watched the raw since my audial japanese is good enough for that and most of the scenes are already known. But the scene at the end (I don't want to spoil you) is Golden :)
And Gia, there are people where I wouldn't hesitate a second to let them watch the flowers from the bottom if i could (with the DN that is). I'm not talking about the small fishes here and there.

But there's no DN to begin with so don't take that disc. too far :D

Hey fellow Deathnote lovers!

I was just listening to the OST3 album and i got to say i really miss L. :cry (Gintoki, don't say a word lol! He is not a *that L word that you have for him!) It's kinda of funny, eventhough i luff L to death, i never really dislike Light at the beginning, it was only when L died, that I wanted to see Light caught. I won't go into the whole morality issue with what Light did right now =P but i just want him to get caught so that L's death wasn't in vain. And so that the other people acknowledge that L was right all along!! :yell Such is my love for this character. :cry

Now that I think about it, I actually hated Misa and Rem more because if not for them, Light wouldn't have that overwhelming advantage. But hey, that's how the story goes.

i just watched the special ,thought i should tell u guys about it (sry if posted b4) ,it begins that Ryok tell the story of light to other shinigami (the part in which Kira was against L only ,without the part of the 2 new guys) and ends at L's grave and Kira killing people and say he is a god of the new world ,then ryok wrote his name , and then we know that the shinigami that Ryok was telling him the story was Yagami Light (the human who uses the death note goes to neither heaven nor hell )

I saw it. I haven't seen the episodes with the Japanese VA, so I have nothing to compare it the voices to. I think I might go to YouTube and see if I can find some.

For now I think that they where sort of so-so. I don't know; I liked Ryuk's voice, but Raito's voice is the one that is sort of bugging me. I also dislike that they changed the name to Light It's like calling Ishida Rain-Dragon, Orihime Weaver Princess, Kaede Maple Leaf, or Kikyo Bellflower. Or I just don't like Light as a name *shrugs*

I just saw the end of Death Note (I think it's the first ep). The Scheduling for YTV is terrible. I didn't think Death Note was even airing on YTV yet, and there is nothing about it on there schedule. I was gonna tape it for a friend Grrrr!!! Does anyone know anything about their scheduling? For Bleach there isn't even a time listed and it's on right now!!

When I read that in the manga, I, also, wanted to cry and slap that grin out of Raito's face.:mad: I, also, wanted to beat up Misa for it. I know that when I see that episode again, I'll totally start to cry.

I love this series so I should probably join up.

I read some posts earlier about how great the dub is, and in particular how good L's voice is, I wanted to comment if this hasn't aready been said, but the VA is Alessadro Juliani, who actually is a real actor, he plays Lieutinent Gaeta in Battlestar Galactica, so they got some good talent for the part, a very good choice. Also the Ocean group is doing the dub, and they are the same ones that did Black Lagoon another excellent dub. Its interesting for myself that most of my favorite animes all have excellent dubs, Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, Samurai Champloo, Full Metal Alchemist, and now Death Note, next up Claymore by chance?

I do worry about Misa, I really can see that voice sounding like nails on chalkboard, heck the Japanese version get annoying after a while, I can only imagine what a american might sound like.

Also I found out that Juliani who plays L, this is actually his first role in anime, so it makes me think they took extra special care when deciding his character, they could have easily taken someone known, but it looks like they did their reserch before deciding who to play that critical character.

I will always prefer the original Japanese VA but I think the eng dubs have been pretty decent. My favorite is L's VA, since I had known Alesandro Juliani from BSG. Light's VA took me longer to get used to but the evil laughter was well done! Quite enjoyed it. :D

The thing is, L is about 19 or 20. Not much older than Light. But I agree, Light could get smarter when he's older

I understand what you're saying, but L isn't actually that old, I don't remember how old he actually is, but to me he looked no older than about 25. To me it seems like Light actually would get worse with age, the reason is that he would get cockier and cockier with more success, L is much more grounded, he's confident in his abilities, but he is always cautious, Light is much more of a guy who always feels like he is ahead of the game.

In his battle against L, Yagami Light won. It's as simple as that, cheating or whatever you want to claim, L died first, meaning he lost (therefore I dont see where L "beat" Light at all). Get over it.

L had just turned 25 when he died by Rem's hand. :cry He was born in 1979 according to Vol 13: HOW TO READ. He looks much younger than that though, to me.

I don't think anyone is disputing that Light beat L. But it's a tad too simplistic to argue that Light was smarter than L based on: Light wins=Light is smarter.

Disclaimer: I have not read the manga so any discussion is based off the anime. Please excuse any "errors" that are not in manga "canon".

Light is a great character. Charming, intelligent, brilliantly manipulative. A total sociopath. However, morally ambiguous is why I love him, L and Death Note. The best characters for me are always the ones I hate to love and love to hate.

I don't think anyone disputes that Light used the Death Note with good intentions turned awry. I do think that based on goody!Light when he lost his memories, he was just a regular albeit highly intelligent boy, capable of compassion and real emotions. The Death Note gave him power that threw everything off balance and started the descent to madness. Hubris certainly describes his predicament. So, despite him killing my favorite L, I was very sad while watching his fall from grace at the last parts of the anime.

Also, OT but entertaining discussion earlier in the thread. laugh.gif

For the record, I do think L has superior intellect. He was killed because he would have got Light, despite Light having knowledge of and help from the shinigami. Anyone in L's position would have 'lost'. No amount of material possessions at his disposal could have helped him fight supernatural elements. They would have been as useful as firing a round of bullets at Ryuk. See busjack ep for canonical evidence that it does not work. Also, L could not possibly have known about Light and Rem's deal or the fact that Rem favored Misa. Inferring these connections defies logic and does not support a case for superior intellect.

People...Light's behavior from chapters 30 - 55 was so dynamic, intricate, and every other word to describe greatness as relates to characterization, that it made me think this guy was the physical manifestation of Aizen (no homo). What he did speaks volumes of how well he knows himself, more than I can say for any emo protagonists in all other anime (no matter what you say, Light is the protagonist by literary definitions). Pulling off that kind of act requires god like~ intelligence, that's what L fangirls fail to see.

Better yet: look at it from the college admissions process.

L = that kid who qualifies for USAMO/MOP, wins Intel, gets finalist standing in every science olympiad, wins research grants.

Light = that kid who qualifies for AIME, does science research, is only a semifinalist when it comes to science olympiad, but has one thing that L lacks and would never obtain in a million years: a three-dimensional personality. His essays and recs would be outstanding no doubt, and HYPMS (the top universities in the US/world) would take him over L any day. Intellect is measured in more ways than one. Articulating your thoughts is also half the battle, and being a Danny Zhu isn't a sign of being intelligent necessarily...it just means you've done a lot of problems so no duh you're gonna be a good problem solver. There's no elegance in that ( in terms of solving problems cause you see something and go "oh! that's solved through method 0101101!" Yes, that's binary. I went there), no creativity, and most importantly NO PERSONALITY.

I was curious about the dub voice actors so I looked up some of them. Now I already knew about Light, L, Ryuk, but I was suprised to see that a lot of the voice actors are fairly new to the scene. For instance it seems that Misa's is very new to anime as well as the voice for Matsuda, generally a lot of the VAs are new to anime even L's VA in Juliani.
