Hard to say Annie. It must be for several reasons. XD

-First, I think they make a beautiful charismatic couple that aesthetically "fits" lol.
-Ulquiorra himself is very popular and most of his interactions are with Inoue, so they just go hand in hand in people's minds.
-Personally, I think they're fascinating in the way they act toward each others. Inoue is less "whimpy" when she's dealing with him. She shouted at him and slapped him, rare reactions from Inoue ^^. She expected him when the loli girls barged in her room!
Ulquiorra seems almost curious about her and said himself he finds her interesting. I love how polite he is toward her. He doesn't physically scare her like the other arrancars.

Of course, the "sweet girl softening the bad boy" angle makes this pairing appealing too, but GJ is far more a bad boy than Ulquiorra to me XD

I agree with all of those reasons why this is such a popular pairing, eurys! :D Plus I think it is the fascination of something evil falling in love with someone so sweet and good. :D That has always been a popular storyline.

Can I join too? This is really the only pairing I care anything about in Bleach. I love the whole tragic angle of it.

Hmm.... well, I think it started with the whole slap scene. Romantic, no? XD Nothing says I love you like a good slap in the face...

Seriously, though... there's the saying, "the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference," and while that'd probably do very little in the case of real world relationships (especially if that hate is the result of some insane levels incompatibility), in fiction it is often a good thing. It adds tension and drama to a dynamic-- things which hook the audience's attention. Character interactions that involve lovey dovey people who do nothing but agree with each other and make concessions are boring to watch. SO so boring, and the slap scene was anything but that, IMO.

LOL... I've mentioned this elsewhere when joking about cheesy romance novels, but if anything scene from Bleach could be transplanted into one, it'd be that slap scene... XD. That and the whole kidnapping angle (not that I read those kinds of books...LOL >.<)

YES! LOL... Grimmjow is certainly more of a bad boy on the surface, but I bet Ulq has some serious issues beneath that cool exterior... have you ever read the lyrics to his beat collection? XD WOW.

lol, YES... there is definitely something strange about the way these two characters interact...and sexual tension is a nice way to describe it. That and good chemistry (and by chemistry, I don't necessarily mean romantic, although that's fun too :p).

UlqOri not only signifies a lot of potential, Orihime and Ulquiorra seem to be comfortable around each other so much. This aspect of mutuality and tension at the same time draws people in, IMO.

Welcome Sasuki-chan! Yay, you decided to join the UlquiHime FC. For me, I first became attracted to the possibility after Ulquiorra complimented Orihime on her clothes. It was just such a random and interesting comment to see coming out of his mouth. They just seem to have an interesting and different chemistry that I can't put my finger on. He's so cool and stoic and Orihime is so expressive, it's wonderful to just throw them together and see sparks fly :p.

The recent look Ulquiorra gave Orihime in chapter 278 was just interesting. The fact that she turned her eyes away as though guilty perhaps suggests Orihime feels something for him. Anyway I'm excited to see more Ulquiorra and Hime moments together.

I always find it funny when people say this is a crack pairing. Yeah, I know they aren't going to get married and have a bunch a kids together or anything, but Ulqui and Hime have had more charged interactions than most anyone in the whole story in my opinion.

In my opinion I think Ulqui for sure has feelings for her...Hime though I don't think likes him in any kind of romantic way yet. I think she definitely feels comfortable around him though. I have a feeling that he is about the only person she ever sees in HM besides servants and that is the way Ulqui would like to keep it. :D I love all the lingering looks Ulqui is always giving her. I always wonder if Ulqui will ever call her by her name instead of "woman". He's trying so hard to keep his distance with her like he does with everything else in his life.

The recent look Ulquiorra gave Orihime in chapter 278 was just interesting. The fact that she turned her eyes away as though guilty perhaps suggests Orihime feels something for him.

I noticed that look too. I think he was hoping that she would answer his question, but she didn't and I think she did feel guilty about not telling him for whatever reason. She certainly looked a little guilty to me. I also noticed from the same chapter that she was very upset when Grimmy first told her that the negación could trap someone in it's field forever.

I understand completely. In my opinion, it's far less cracky than IshidaxNemu, which was very popular for a while.
Like you said, we're not expecting them to get married at the end with lots of kids...but we're expecting understanding from both of them. Mutual trust too...and sexual tension lol.

I'm sure Inoue could "touch" Ulquiorra's heart...after all, Kubo did introduce friendly arrancars via Nell and the bros, so Ulquiorra warming up to Inoue is possible. Well, since I believe Inoue will stay at HM, I'm looking forward to the next chapters when Ulquiorra will be free! ^^

Sasuki-chan, I'm not sure if many IchiOri fans turned Ulquihime, but Ulquihime is indeed very popular, and I suspect it is more popular than some well established pairings :p

As for the reason for the Ulquiorra/Orihime pairing's popularity, I think there are many factors that can contribute to it. It can be because (a) the characters' interactions are interesting, (b) Ulquiorra's attitude towards Orihime is so probing and curious it seems questionable, especially considering his oft-repeated disgust of humans, (c) there's always the Stockholm Syndrome (:p) and, (d) there's the appeal of opposites attract coupled with the attraction of good girl/bad guy pairing (though that latter isn't really my thing, it's pretty popular elsewhere, right?)

The recent look Ulquiorra gave Orihime in chapter 278 was just interesting. The fact that she turned her eyes away as though guilty perhaps suggests Orihime feels something for him.I also like the fact that Ulquiorra had that shaded panel where his face isn't shown. It might just be me, but what's up with that?

The more I think about it, the more I'm thankful Kubo did choose Ulquiorra as Inoue's company in HM...because seriously, most of the espadas/arrancars are completely twisted and sadistic XD
With Ulquiorra, she's more at ease (like when he surprised her in her room) and I like that Orihime.

The look they exchanged in chapter 278 is indeed interesting : a mix of guilt, reproach and awkwardness...

@sasuki-chan: Well, based on the Japanese websites I've been to, many UlqOri fans seem to be IchiOri fans in the past, or IshiOri fans as well. I also like IshiOri, but I've never liked it as much as I like UlqOri presently. The tension and interaction between Ulq and Ori are too intriguing and interesting. XD I doubt anything romantic may come out of this in the manga (but I am hoping it might), and the fanarts for this pairing are incredibly adorable. ^__^

I will come up with a banner for this FC so members can use it as a signature. ^_^

Hum...I didn't know that, Ileenka. Well I know that UlqOri has become really popular everywhere since the slap scene but I didn't expect fans from other pairings to see their chemistry and switch ship. Kubo is doing a really good job with UlqOri.

And I have to admit that this pairing fanarts are so cute. I don't care about them but the fanarts lure me ;__; I saw someone's sig in other forum with Ulquiorra feeding Orihime who's wrapped in a pink bow along with the quote from ulqiorra's famous one-hour return speech. i really love that fanart and think this pairing is cute and the dialogues between them are interesting.

As for UlqHime, I just didn't feel it until recently. It's when in ch272 Inoue expected Ulquiorra to come in her room that I went wait, what, why? Because it snapped her out somehow. So I took my time to re-look at their interactions and saw that there was definitely something going on. Not romantic but something like fascination and at the same time, Inoue was so strong when she was with him; he's able to bring out the best out of her. Her reaction did surprise me in ch278, as if she was at fault or something and ashamed that she deceived him lol ^^;

That hurts, Eurys :p IchiRuki still win but it's true UlqOri fanarts are so good. The one Ileenka posted is gorgeous.

And I agree with Syn, Orihime's reaction to Ulq's stare in ch 278 surprised me. I expected her to be angry at him for nearly kill Ichigo but that didn't happen. Instead we saw her looking ashame and stunted when GJ told her how the device (Naca something) could lock an arrancar forever.

And I agree with Syn, Orihime's reaction to Ulq's stare in ch 278 surprised me. I expected her to be angry at him for nearly kill Ichigo but that didn't happen. Instead we saw her looking ashame and stunted when GJ told her how the device (Naca something) could lock an arrancar forever.
the stare also surprised me but I think it's orihime's reaction which surprised me the most. When ulquiorra appeared,I expected her to be really angry or disgusted for what he did to ichigo (like the unpleased faces she does several times when she is with grimmjow).I surely do not expected this look and I was wondering what she was feeling right now:
embarassed?guilty?ashamed? If so,why? for leaving the room, for not answering his question or maybe for the slap?
Her shocked face when she learns he could be trapped forever in the dimension also surprised me...it's really intriguing
actually I think the entire chapter increased a lot my interest/love for the couple XD:D

just for that,I hope orihime will stay in HM (and if it can make her mentally stronger then I'm all for it :D)

And another important thing : the way orihime behaves toward him. She isn't scared to speak her mind (see the slap XD)and is confortable around him. I think it's one of the thing which make me like this pairing so much.

Me too. I love how strong her character is when she's around him. Feisty!Orihime FTW :)

I always find it funny when people say this is a crack pairing. Yeah, I know they aren't going to get married and have a bunch a kids together or anything, but Ulqui and Hime have had more charged interactions than most anyone in the whole story in my opinion.

LOL... I sometimes like to refer to it as crack just for fun, but I really have never actually thought it was :p. Perhaps it's crack in the sense that nothing may ever come of it in the end, but when you just take into consideration all their interactions (regardless of the probable outcome of this pairing), it's far from it, IMO. You're so right about their exchanges being more charged than most in the story, and like Dice said, there's something about the chemistry between these two that you just can't put your finger on.

I think it's funny when people genuinely dismiss this pairing so easily; I think they may do so because Orihime is currently in love with Ichigo, and Ulquiorra is an apathetic villain who regards the world with a general air of disgust (pretty much the last character that many people could imagine in a romantic pairing XD).

In my opinion I think Ulqui for sure has feelings for her...Hime though I don't think likes him in any kind of romantic way yet. I think she definitely feels comfortable around him though.

Oh, I agree-- I think there is definitely something there on Ulq's side. He is intrigued by her, but it likely doesn't even register in his mind that this could mean trouble for his cold, cold heart XD. If him complimenting her on her outfit wasn't strange enough, there was also his admiration of her strength and the very passive reaction to the infamous slap. Some could argue that he didn't retaliate because it was his duty as her caretaker to make sure that no harm came upon her, but he didn't respond to it verbally either. No chastising, no warnings, just... shock... which Kubo very nicely emphasized through the pacing of the panels. Ulquiorra then walks away, acting as though it had never happened. He must have been dumbfounded by this girl who he believed had been so thoroughly trapped by his mind games, which is something that will only spark his fascination with her further, IMO.

As for Orihime... while she may still be a little preoccupied at the moment, I think that she too is a bit fascinated by him, and the fact that she's so comfortable with him is definitely noteworthy, considering the things she's seen him do to people o_O... I mean, Orihime wouldn't hurt a fly, and Ulquiorra can kill without any hesitation-- yet in a way she almost seems somewhat tolerant of this, given that she hasn't yet turned against him. Maybe it's because she has the power to undo what he does? The moment in 278 where she avoided his gaze as though she felt guilty for some reason was odd, and even stranger still was the look of concern on her face when Grimmjow was explaining how the device he used on Ulq traps hollows in another dimension for all eternity. Not really the reaction one would expect, considering that Ulquiorra had just punched a hole into the chest of the boy she loves...

I'm sure Inoue could "touch" Ulquiorra's heart...after all, Kubo did introduce friendly arrancars via Nell and the bros, so Ulquiorra warming up to Inoue is possible.

XD I like it! I really do hope that Ulquiorra changes as a result of his interactions with Orihime, though not too much, lol. Many people object to this idea because they believe it would ruin such a badass character, but I think it could be done believably in a way that doesn't short change him. I'm rooting for some character development.

(c) there's always the Stockholm Syndrome (:p)

LOL... Some people like to say that Ulq has "Lima Syndrome," which is just like Stockholm, only reversed :p.

I also like the fact that Ulquiorra had that shaded panel where his face isn't shown. It might just be me, but what's up with that?

Oooooh, interesting... a darkening of his mood, perhaps? XD It goes from a close-up of his face as he stares at Orihime in the preceding panel, to something a bit more distant, obscure, in the next. Feels as though the tension between the two of them is dissipating at that point, with Ulquiorra backing down and not being too pleased about it.

I always believed the rescue mission would fail. I think an espada (or aizen?) will stop ichigo and Orihime will agree to stay and to obey the orders but only if ichigo and cie can go out of HM alive .But if it happens, what will happen to rukia and chad? I really have a hard time to predict the future chapters this time:)

And I wonder how grimmjow would know such a thing about orihime.

I think it was a lucky guess. Grimmjow and Orihime don't know each other that well, so it's not like he can feel what's going on inside her head XD ; and even if Orihime referred to him as 'Grimmjow', it isn't a sign of them knowing each other well or being close. From what I know, people usually using suffixes like -san or -kun don't necessarily use them when they say the person's name in a negative tone. Not being offensive here (not my style really), just wanted to make sure there won't be misunderstandings...or something.

I think GJ only guessed it, because Ulquiorra has done his best to 'brainwash' (I can't find a better word, I'm very tired and going to sleep soon) Orihime. And what Grimmjow said doesn't necessarily mean Orihime is going to stay there for sure. He may have said it just to provoke Ichigo or something.

And I apologize if this post strays too much from UlquiHime itself.

GJ is very perceptive I must say. He knows Ulq's habits and Ichigo's reason to fight him. He knows that Ulq is in charge of Orihime and even taunted him with the line 'what's the matter? You sure talk too much today' after he refused to hand back Orihime.

What GJ say about Orihime could mean he knows the reason why Ulq is in charge of her. To 'plant' something inside Orihime (I'm talking about phychological cage here >_>) Making her not wanting to leave HM or he simply is talking her powers from that monster chapter.

OMG HAHAHAHA..... yep, she's pregnant. No question about it XD. Ulquiorra's stares were more powerful than anyone had previously imagined, because all he had to do was look at her.

It is a really interesting thing for Grimmjow to say, though. I agree with Annie, that GJ is very perceptive (who would have thought that he'd be such an observant person?? GJ-- the resident human/arrancar behavioural expert, lol). He knew about Ulquiorra's habit and Ichigo's alterior motives, it'd make sense that he can see something about Orihime as well. He doesn't have to know her that well to notice if there's been a change about her-- perceptive people have a knack for sensing these kinds of things (though I suppose you could still consider such an observation to be a "guess" since it's so subjective :p).

GJ likely knows all about Ulquiorra's M.O. and the psych games he'd play with Orihime, but he had also witnessed her run away from him to heal Lolli and Menolli after they had beat her to a bloody pulp. There was something a bit odd about that, even considering the fact that she's such a kind hearted person. I think GJ's motivation for telling Ichigo about Orihime was first and foremost about getting a rise out of him, but I also think Kubo could be using GJ as a tool to bluntly clarify certain points for the audience.

Maybe not brainwashed... but something in Orihime is certainly changing. After all, she does seem as though she's beginning to care about Ulquiorra, judging by her concerned reaction after he disappeared and the lack of disgust regarding his injuring Ichigo. But if Orihime does manage to become brainwashed, I hope Ulq is equally effected, lol.

I just hope that GJ really is referring to psychological changes, and not some random side effect of her officially joining Aizen's group (as unlikely as that may be) o_O....

IMO He became quickly interested by her (I don't mean romantically),I would say before the scene with noitora when ulquiorra thought she was a strong woman.

That's true. Seeing how high in rank he is, it's not that usual when someone slaps him square in the face. He's too strong. And seeing that Orihime isn't really much of a strong character, and seeing that she did slap him, he should be a bit mystified, knowing that he could've just slapped/kicked/punched/killed her back.

To me UlqhiHime began happening when he went to get her while she was going back to the real world. Even though it was Aizen's order to get her, I could totally see interest and intrigue in Ulquiorra. Then the whole, "it looks good on you," thing to me sounds so OOC for Ulquiorra... Which I thought was cute! The slap.. .meh... whatever not emotional, just Orihime being pissed for having some stupid guy tell her her friends are stupid. I don't believe there's love in violence or whatever... ANYWAYS... the look Orihime gave Ulquiorra was of guilt, but I don't think it was 'cause of their secret relationship (even though a part of me wishes it was... ;-;) but because maybe she felt sad seeing that he was alone all by himself while she was with two hot guys. xD [/end stupidity]

The slap didn't do much for me, but their faces afterwards did. Also, remember, chapter 278 was the first time they've seen each other since the slap, so it's not surprising they looked that way (and Orihime's feeling guilty... Ah, love.)

Well, I think Ulquiorra lacks in the "heartwarming" department, probably because he doesn't HAVE a heart. xD Holewarming more likely.

So I agree with you. UlquiOri is one very original relationship; they'll have a vamp reunion, something with a lot of guilt-producing strangeness.
I think the tension is something that confuses the both of them incredibly. It's not really romance or anything (yet :D) but it's enough to make them *wonder*, IMO. I expect the reunion to reflect that confusion. And Ulq will most likely have the unpleasant task of saying something very OOC. I mean, hell, I didn't dare expect him to say "Give Her Back" in my wildest dreams, and yet Kubo deemed it appropriate.

The look he gave her, at first I was trying to figure out if his expression changed after Orihime looked away in shame. And it did, ever so slightly. It was very subtle but it was there. I also liked how he said he was given resposibility to take care of her. I found it sweet that he said that 'cause he could have just asked Grimmjow to give her back without having to say anything about his role with regards to her as Grimmjow should already know.

I don't see why he wouldn't forgive her.After all,it's not as if she could refuse anything to grimmjow and Ulquiorra knows it.
I'm really curious about their next discussion.The last time they saw each other,the atmosphere was everything but fluffy :D. I think Orihime must feel guilty for leaving the room but ALSO for the slap (it's her personality after all)
so I wouldn't be surprised if she apologized to him for what happened and ulquiorra would be surprised (or he'd have no reaction which is one of the highest possibility:D)

But... but! I like Orihime, and I'm a diehard IchiRuki. :0 I might just be confused with the path her character has taken in the HM arc, but I have faith that she will be one up-and-running, Espada-pwning, Ulquiorra-loving, Orihime soon. xD

I hope you don't have a bad opinion of the IchiRukis. :( It all depends on the person, not the fandom, remember! There are fools in every fandom, be it IchiRuki, GrimmHime or AizenGin, but there are some really, really awesome people as well. ^__^ We're just lucky the UlquiHime fandom is so nice. And has mad drawing skills (I mean, those fanarts are just drop-dead-beautiful!)

Cool signature bytheway. I might just put it up, if you don't mind, but after The Big IR Reunion has taken place - I trust that by that time we'll have some gorgeous UlquiOri goodness to quote under it. <3

Oh and Hime's face is so well-drawn in that shot!

Before I take my leave (two weeks off, everyone!) I'll leave you with this thought... UlquiOri is just starting, and it's already this intense. Only two days have passed and they're already one of the most prominent and intriguing pairings in Bleach. I feel it will serve an important, VERY important role in the future. REMEMBER MY WORDS.

Many of us like both ships, some don't, but I do not believe that it's a good idea to bring up other ships unless it is absolutely necessary. It is also one of the rules given for the pairing FCs (they are in the first post of this thread).

i agree sergelia! this pairing doesn't have much time(we have just the manga)..and look at the fandom!, i think it's one of the best couples that KT could create, 2nd place in a poll of couples in bleach, and above another 49 posible pairings! it's great!

which one do you like more, ishihime or ulquihime?

That's so true. This fandom exploded, and it's just barely begun.
I actually like both, I try to be as neutral as possible, because that's how I roll. Usually. :cool:

I really love Ulquiorra's eyes : the colour, the snake-like pupils and even the sad sad eyebrows lol. No wonder Inoue felt guilty while looking at them. She had to turn her head XD

I miss Ulquiorra. Orihime needs him. Hopefully we'll get more UlqOri moments soon. I was also wondering why the UlqOri ship is so popular just now, and I think one of the reasons is because Ulquiorra is pretty much 'available' and up for grabs with no other love interests in sight. I know Orihime x Tatsuki was pretty popular when Bleach first began. Anyway, I also like IshiOri but strangely UlqOri seems to be my life source right now. XD

I think Ulquiorra/Orihime is also popular because they bring a different and fresh dynamic to the series. Their relationship is different from the others, bad guy/good girl, and it's so interesting.

That look they shared on one of the recent chapters has to mean something x3

The pledge to Aizen, the bewildered Orihime look of surprise (which is so Orihime) when he entered her room and complimented her outfit, the refusal to eat, the slap, and her expectation of Ulquiorra entering the room (when the two girl arrancars came in) portray a more solid Orihime. And the recent look which created a wave in fandom is also part of the many reasons why I simply think Orihime needs Ulquiorra. ^_^ But that's just a very simple observation, nevertheless.

YES!!! MORE INTERACTIONS!! I don't care what kind they are either. Anything and everything that centers around these two is interesting, IMO. That's why I think they're so great. And you don't have to think that they're star crossed lovers to enjoy them-- as far as I'm concerned, people can think Ulquiorra is creepy as hell, but as long as they find his interactions w/ Orihime to be intriguing, they're welcome in this club, LOL.

I agree. I've really enjoyed Orihime when she's around Ulquiorra (Aizen and the other arrancar as well). She definitely seemed more solid, IMO, and without any of her friends around to rely on, she began to take matters into her own hands. We've backtracked a bit this past chapter or so, but hopefully she'll come back fighting.... or should I say healing.... Rukia and Chad.... :p

I think I have a general idea of what's going to happen, and it's sad T_T..... poor Ulqui..... I'm one of those people that believes that he won't survive to the end of the story, and I think his downfall will be connected to Orihime somehow. I do really like the idea of him being purified or healed by her, though, even if some people think that's sappy.
