Ouran High School Host Club is a story that takes place primarily at Ouran High School, an exclusive institution for students from incredibly wealthy and affluent families. One exception is scholarship student Haruhi Fujioka, a young student from a lower-middle class family. Because of the superlative cost of the school uniform, Haruhi resorts to wearing long slacks, polo shirts and a vest that resembles the male student's uniform with large glasses and tousled short hair. Therefore, upon entering school, Haruhi was assumed to be, by most, a male student.

Because the Ouran High School libraries are filled with gossiping students, Haruhi seeks out the Third Music Room, supposedly unused, as a quiet place to study. But Haruhi finds that this room has been taken over by the Host Club - a group of six attractive male students who spend their time charming and entertaining the school's girls for profit. During their first meeting, Haruhi is shocked at their behavior which causes her to accidently knock over a very expensive vase valued at ¥8,000,000 This causes Haruhi to contract a massive debt with the Host Club. In order to pay off the large sum, Haruhi is employed as the club's "dog" and is constantly ordered to do menial tasks for the members such as serving food or cleaning up.

Once the club president, Tamaki Suou, sees how good Haruhi looks without glasses, Haruhi is promoted to be one of the hosts of the club as a way to pay off the huge debt. One by one, the other club members take notice, until even the club president finally discovers that Haruhi is, in fact, a female, with a self-proclaimed 'low threshold for gender identity'. However, since she has already been accepted by the club's customers and has become one of the main attractions, Haruhi is allowed to continue being a host provided she conceals the fact that she is a female. She is forced to stay until she has accumulated a total of 100 (later, 1000) customers, at which time her debt would be considered paid in full.

Later, Haruhi develops close personal relationships with the members of the host club, managing to capture most of their hearts.

Thanx for joining I ended up discussing this series everywhere in other threads so I decided to make a thread to discuss it .

I really still do wonder who Haruhi's going to end up with. Or it could end up being like how the anime ended. Sigh.

I just started reading the manga after anime I hope its Tama (for reasons stated below) but I think its going to be Hikaru >.<



Tama is slightly a misunderstood character while Hikaru later develops a crush on her Tama from the start. Well why does that matter Tama as he is crushing on Haruhi he goofs up everything . His mannerism his demeanor him being overactive around Haruhi . Hikaru as he is already friends with Haruhi he has that level of comfiture which Tama lacks.

The problem with Tama is he doesn’t acknowledge his feelings towards Haruhi . He is in denial or doesn’t quite understand them that give rise to his weird antic. When you crush on some you do act goofy around them or try to impress upon them. That combined with Tama’s General Behavior. Makes him act ridiculously obnoxious around Haruhi

Also Tama cares for Haruhi every time she is in trouble Tama is the first to overreact or act . But caring does not necessarily equate to love but that’s Tama’s way of expressing his love as he is not quite understood these feelings himself.

Hikaru on other hand expresses his feelings the right way . Also I do hate to admit the so called first love goes to Hikaru . But Haruhi also doesn’t acknowledge ore more importantly understand her feelings. As the story progresses Haruhi understands the different aspects of Tama than his goofy side. As everyone relates their experiendes she understands facets to Tama

But I have to agree HaruhiXHikaru looks brighter >______< I don’t know I kinda feel bad for Tama so all the shipping.

well, i read the first manga chapters and they were ok, but then the anime arrived and when i watched i fell in love with the series, it's one of the few shows where the anime it's better than the manga, at least for me, it's so cool, it has a great animation, character design, it's funny, it's cute, and of course, it's full of gorgeous bishonens:rolleyes: i like many characters, my fav is tamaki ^^

I actually watched this show in Feb this year. I had heard a lot about this show back in 06 actually a whole lot. It’s a shojo and shojos aren’t thing don’t ask bad experiences . I love romantic comedies as opposed to plain romances. So I was very hesitant I kind of avoided the show.

In feb/march this year a dear friend of mine recommended it to me and our tastes were similar. I took her word about the show and ended up watching and know what I loved it muchos . I learnt my lesson kind of never judge a book by its cover

Sure why not two of my freinds are Haruhi supporters so I cant discuss the show with them Well with one I always lose any argument and other wants Hikaru for herself it’s a lose lose situation .

To be honest Tama sounded like a cave man in this thanks to the grunting sounds/noises . But I loved the background score is sweet.The HikaruXHaruhi was sweet I liked the background score and they sound like each other ^^

* You know I could feel the chemistry between Kyouya and Haruhi . But here Haruhi needs a change of attitude . She seems him more as a sempai she should start seeing him as one of the crowd .

* She has got by the first hurdle entering Kyouya’s reserved world now she needs to see him as a person minus tags .

* Kyouya aims for the greater good and is very reserved they are two minus points for him.

- As he is reserved will he let Haruhi enter his world

- Also being good friends with Tama and understanding his feelings . Kyouya may sacrifice for greater good

Good justification I kinda agree Hikaru is more sensitive among the twins . Initially his outlook towards Haru was more as a toy . Once Haru could crack the puzzle who is who he was most likely intrigued Intrigue led to interest as Haru could stand up to the twins which blossomed into love or feelings.

Kaoru is more mature of the two he should overlook his feelings and let Hikaru go for it . After all sacrifice is the other name of love and Haru is a not an object which the two can share . IMHO Hikaru feelings are stronger

Kyouya just like Tama is just smiling for the world there is a lonely insecure person deep inside him He strives for perfection that is the need to assure himself . Haruhi just maybe the sunshine in his dour life . She may help him be the real Kyouya not Mr. Perfect. That side was initially bought out by Tama . Haru with her zestful persona may bring it out totally making him a different person

My thoughts lead to no, as of right now. Well, because the anime covered up to volume 8, picking out chapters and putting them in some different order. And there's only like, 10 volumes, so that would mean the second season might be really hard to do. :O

Yeah also our selection for main cast is from Hana Kimi ( Tomaki ) so its sorta a deja vu . True Hana Kimi kinda gives us the rough idea

But you won't regret watching the anime.:D Every episode is laughable. You'll love how the superb seiyuu voice the characters.

Not that you mention the comparison, it actually reminds me of fruits basket. Almost all the episode is full of comedy but when the anime ended, I started to read the manga, and it's already full of angst >__<

@ Chappyrules - Kyouya is definately my favorite Ouran character. I hate to admit it but I don't see Haruihi and Kyouya together just yet (manga developement wise). I think she's still to intimidated by him. And although i wish hope that with time they might be a plausible couple i highly doubt it with the ending words of chapter 56

Who is your favorite character and why?

Kyouya because there's another side to his money-hungry, profit-making, merit-scheming ways. He's proved himself to be a loyal companion to Tamaki which i absolutely adore him for. Spoiler for volume 12 below...

In volume 12/field trip arc (where the second years take a class trip to France). Tamaki decides not to go, but Kyouya does. While there Kyouya spends his entire vacation trying to locate Tamaki's mother. He missed out on sleep and ended up falling asleep on the pavement. That's friendship!!

He wouldn't give up so easily after Kaoru talked to him... I'm guessing he'll make one attempt that is supposed to sway Haruhi's heart (man that sounds weird) back to normal or even better, to himself. There's going to be some rivalry going on for sure...

There has been a lot of talk about how much Haruhi fans dislike this chapter because it's so OOC and that they like the nonchalant Haruhi better. Now that she's blushing like mad it maked her like any other Shojo heroine.

personally I think its super cute because Haruhi isn't normally like this. So it makes her loving Tamaki so much more SQEE worthy

Well, it's the author who'll decide if the character is OOC or not :p

haruhi's nonchalant character is what I like about her, but still she's a girl :D
The whole thing is a character/relationship development. As far as the story is concerned, will realize her 'feminity' soon. You see, she's surrounded by guys, but she didn't turn into a lesbian. She still has that girl in her, so let Tamaki wake that up :p

As for Hikaru...hmm...I want a good rivalry between him and Tamaki :D. I don't think he'll give Haruhi without a fight.

I don't find Haruhi's reaction against her character, in fact I was predicting it. Its natural, she was bound to fall for one of the guys and feel this way. As for Hikaru, if he really loves her, he needs to try harder. He shouldn't give up just because he thinks he's no match for Tamaki, I remember he said that a few chapters earlier. The upcoming chapters are gonna rock!!!

It's heartbreaking and sweet to see Haruhi so confused and scared when it comes to love. I don't see how it's OOC at all.

I can't see how Hikaru could have any chance in the end. Most likely Hikaru won't give her up without a fight, but the one thing Kaoru tried to prevent in this chapter happened, Haruhi realized her feelings for Tamaki! After that her feelings are probably firm! It seems Haruhi isn't just falling for Tamaki, she's already at the very deep bottom.
Haruhi is a very faithful person in my eyes, A nonchalant character as her falling in love is something that only happens once in a lifetime. the one person that now can decide the direction of what's going to happen is Tamaki. It all depends on if he becomes aware of what she (and Tamaki himself) feels and what he will do then. So I believe in a happy outcome for the two, it's after all a School love comedy :D

It sure is going to get exciting! I hope Hikaru doesn't get too aggressive, It's a pity he can't control his feelings well. Tamaki changes every sad feeling he has to positive energy and get's through life with a smile, that's something Hikaru (and everyone else in the whole world) should try to learn. If Haruhi says to his face that "I love Tamaki-sempai" Hikaru should think of her happiness and try to move on. If you love someone, that persons happiness is your happiness. That's what I think atleast

Hmm, well I agree about Haruhi been drawen a little OOC but I still love her. I understand where her fanz are coming from though. Many people love Haruhi because she is not a typical shoujo character. She is not a clutz, she says what she is thinking, she doesn't cry over a guy etc. lets just see where her character development is going
