This is a FC for those that love the anime Baccano! This wonderful new enchanting anime deserves a FC where its fans can discuss the greatness that is this show. Whether it be the antics of Issac and Miria, the badassness of Claire, or the craziness that is Ladd, this is the place to talk about it.
For those that are wondering what this anime is about here is the link to the ANN posting: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=7492

BUMP! FOR JUSTICE!! :yell
Baccano! was awesome - It was so deliciously funny and it had cutting edge stylistic elements like Cowboy Bebop.
Like Isaac and Miria didn't even know what they were in 2001!! :lmao While Maiza was prolly the connecting hero, these two just wowed me, they were so borderline annoying, but managed to stay funny.
My fav character was Luck Gandor - because he was voiced by Koyasu Takehito and I melt when I hear his voice.:D
It was also really intriguing because of the time-skip elements - like the first eppie didn't connect by much, which sorta reminded me of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but it required less effort to sequence the events.
I would totally love to see more, since it's not often we get a completely original series like this.
Also Claire/ Vino - yeah, psycho. There's a guy who's a few pocky sticks short y'know ;)

I am so happy I got someone to join, I was worried that no one would join for some reason, but this is an anime that seemed to fly under the radar for a lot of people.
I have to say I loved Issac and Miria, and you're right they strayed a couple times into the realm of being annoying, but to me they were one of the funniest pairing I have ever seen and think I will ever see in the future. One of the things I found so enjoyable is that ever character seemed to contribute something, no character seemed to get annoying or seemed to lack passion. The VA cast was also superb.

Issac and Miria are fantasitc. Their logic is so funny. I'm only at the beginning but I really like where its going.

Issac and Miria are two of the funniest people in all of anime, at least for me they are, the best thing is that they are consistent through the entire show, they are still good from episode 1 all the way through to episode 13

I just finished the series, the ending with Issac and Marie was fantastic :rofl
Spartan27

What did you think of some the character such as Ladd or Claire?
The ending I think is pretty perfect ending for those characters as well as the overall series.
The anime actually comes from a series of novels, so there is potential for further episodes which there will be, at least in the DVDs but I also hear that there is additional material so a future season could potentially happen.

i like it since it is very unique with how it changes year like every scene and still make sense.
the only thing i dislike is the guy with the sword tattoo on his face. he is so annoying .
Spartan27
02-24-2008, 06:22 AM
Yeah, if there is one character that can get annoying it's Jacuzzi, he does though have a pretty badass moment towards the end in episode 12 or so. Just keep with it, he gets better.

My favorite character is Claire Stanfield (Vino) cause he's just an awesome character :D
I love his philosophy about him being the center of his own world, I have to watch the series again to catch every thing. They certainly filled those 13 episodes with a lot :D
The fight on top of the train was great and the way Vino tore apart his victims.
Spartan27
03-03-2008, 07:06 PM
Claire is great, his whole philosophy on life is really something. The way that he literally grinds his enemies up is great, the way he accumulates blood on himself is like something straight out of a horror film. The man is the freakin RAIL TRACER!!!

Well I have some news about Baccano!, one of the DVD episodes has been released by BSS. I guess the way to describe it, is that it's typical Baccano!, and also to say that Graham Spector may be even more crazy than Ladd Russo, which I didn't think was possible.

ok I'll support you guys.
I've just finished the anime, and though I haven't understood everything, I've found it a really interesting story with great plot and characters. Isaac and Miria are really something, their kindness and ingenuity is really touching, it's like a title said they're spreading happiness around. Unlike some characters whom are more likely to spread body parts :p, Claire is really a crazy sadistic murderer (that's how we like him), but with some sense of justice as they said, Ladd and Szilard are really first class evil characters.
There's really a nice fantastic and horror touch alongside with comedy and mafia flick themes. I loved how this anime revisited the old myth of immortality. The only thing I don't like is the puzzle-like narration, it's indeed a good concept, but they have overdone it imo,as a result the whole plot is pretty hard to follow, fortunately it is relatively short, going like this for much longer would have fried my tired brain.

can i join?
Baccano! was the best anime of last year in my opinion. The way that it had so many characters, but didn't seem to overload the show, was so cool! and I thought Jacuzzi was the best character, even beating out Isaac and Miria. Clare was pretty cool too, with his acrobatic skills and whatnot.

07-13-2008, 06:54 AM
Oh you can certainly join!!!
Yes Baccano was probably the best anime of last year, it was certainly the best anime that nobody watched along with in my opinion Seirei no Moribito.
So have you seen the DVD only episodes?

I saw the first two. Graham was insanely cool. His fight with Ladd was impressive, simply because he fought with just a wrench. Haven't gotten to see the last one yet.
Spartan27
07-13-2008, 07:26 AM
That was a big ASS wrench though, I can't believe he was able to swing it so easily, but then again we are talking about someone who can fight on par with Ladd, and you have to be freaking batshit crazy in both mind and skills to fight with Ladd.

07-13-2008, 07:29 AM
exactly! and earlier when he totalled that car, while it was still in the air? :devestated awesome!
does he fight clare too? because that would be interesting to see.
Spartan27

Well sort of, the fight starts but basically it ends pretty quick, neither side really wins, it's an alright fight, but nothing too special.

That I don't know anything about. I know there is a lot of material that wasn't touched, but I doubt they will use any of it.

07-13-2008, 09:36 AM
They could keep the series going with the stories of the other novels, but I doubt they saw it as a big enough success to do that with. Wish they would, Baccano! is a series worth multiple seasons

I'm so happy. I'm hoping the voices don't get screwed up though. but that's usual for the dubbing of shows i like.
Now all we need is the translation of the light novels.

Well i finished the 13 episode series today and much to my surprise found out there was 3 special episodes also, which i loved thoroughly. I was so happy with Ennis turning on that old bastard and then Firo eating him. and then Chane finding love with Vino.
This series had some of the most sadisitic character's i've ever seen, and yet it didnt dissuade me from it. oddly enough it makes me want to see more. And some might find it's way of jumping between times a little confusing, i was glad at least they went as far to show the distinctions between the periods.
I also found the alchemistic side of this story to be interesting, with the desire to create an elixir that fixed all wounds and caused immortality.
I also thought it was strange how part of the series seemed to revolve around Dallas, and while he was a douchebag we never got to see why everyone was after him.

Personally I like the multiple storylines, I felt that it gave the series a uniqueness, and I also found it very interesting to see how all these characters are connected in some way. In many ways the one that connects everyone is Issac and Miria which is great since they are such unique characters themselves. I don't think I'll ever see a series that is like Baccano!, There are similar feels, but I don't think we'll ever have this sort of series again, at least for a while.
I think one thing is that it's a bit of risk to have a series that jumps around, it's also a series that is set in a period and place that isn't used very much.
The way that I look at the series is that it's very similar to a Guy Ritchie film like Snatch or Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, it's probably why I like it so much, since those are two of my more favorite films, heck the opening credits of Snatch is pretty much the exact same format as Baccano! in fact I wouldn't be surprised if it was the inspiration for Baccano!'s great OP. I would love for there to be another Anime that is setup in the same format, perhaps a Japanese version of Snatch.

CH: the thing with Dallas had to do with the gunning down at the beginning of the series i think. the one that they were sent to do.
i thoguht it was funny how they decided to get rid of dallas though.

:zomg Why didn't i see that :cry it was so plain as day, it's just like snatch! From the opener to the jumping around to different moments, and i guess you could say the diamond was similar to issac and miria, (the thing which connected everyone).

Okay, now that I have gotten myself to finish the entire series, I would be an idiot not to join. Actually I have Spartan to thank for promoting the series so much, otherwise I probably wouldn't have even considered it, since I'm not very spontaneous with anime.
This series is so original, I'm glad I got to see it. I'm most definitely buying it once it comes out on DVD here in the states, regardless of how the dub turns out.

iNSOMNiA basically stated what I've given my BA life to, which is promoting this series.
Welcome aboard.
The about Baccano! is that I haven't found a single person that hasn't liked it. I've found some that didn't like it as much as me, but they've still enjoyed the series.
I found last year that there were a bunch of animes that didn't get the attention that they deserved, titles that I believe have more depth than some of the heavy hitters (TTGL, Code Geass, Lucky Start). It's not that I don't like the big titles...Well I didn't like Lucky Star, but that's another matter, it's that I hate it when quality titles don't get the attention that they deserve. It's happening again I think with kurenai, and Birdy not getting really any run as being good good titles.
My rant is done, but I feel good when I convince someone to see this show, since I really believe everyone can come away feeling good about it, though maybe not as good as myself.
iNSOMNiA
08-05-2008, 01:43 PM
Thanks for the welcome. :hug
And I agree that Baccano! seems to have gotten little recognition compared to other series released around the same time, and not even nearly recognition that it deserves.
Actually, when I first downloaded the series some months ago I watched the first episode and wasn't too impressed, but the confusion didn't help any. I didn't write it off immediately, but I put off the next episode until weeks later. After that, I got pulled in... And then pretty much marathoned it with any free time I had since then. I'm downloading the DVD episodes as we speak, just finished watching the first one.
I really didn't think anybody else could measure up to Ladd in sheer insanity, but in waltzes Graham. I really like both characters, they're always interesting to see on-screen.
Other than those two, I think my favorite characters were Isaac and Miria (hard not to love the couple), Czes (I wasn't sure whether I liked or disliked him for a while, but at the end I decided he was a neat character), and probably Ennis. Chare was an intriguing character as well, despite being a mute. I really liked her.
Oh, and I can relate with the part about feeling good at the end. Its the type of series that makes you really glad you watched it, and I thought it ended well.
I seriously LOL'd at the bit with Isaac and Miria. <3

Best friend forever! Welcome!
I think I've said this before, but my favorite characters were Jacuzzi(gonna try to cosplay for the first time usin him), clare, and czeclaw. clare was just so cool. and czeclaw went from super innocent to super evil and then back again, but underneath all of that he was still a little kid.
iNSOMNiA
08-06-2008, 03:23 AM
I actually liked Jacuzzi as well. If you cosplay him, make sure to take pictures! I've been thinking of cosplaying from Baccano! as well, but I think the only character I could pull off is Czes, since I have the height and body of a little kid anyways. At the last con I went to a few months back, there was a really well-made Baccano! skit in the masquerade, you could tell it was really thought out and planned. I'll post the video, though the end of the skit might make Spartan cringe, you have to admit it was executed well.
Just wait for the guy to finish introducing the skit in the beginning.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LN-r_-oO9qw
Anyways, Vino was just plain awesome. If I hadn't seen that skit before I ever saw the series, I don't think I would have ever suspected the conductor. He seemed so secondary. His character was very unique.

Alright, friends and fellow fans of Baccano! I'm gonna go ahead and prepare for my cosplay goal of Jacuzzi. and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find some really good pics, since im having a hard time finding any real good ones. I just need to get the actual proportions of his wardrobe...
