They're thick ones too--lots of other Bleach characters have pencil thin ones.

he has his eybrows (which are shapedlike tattoos somewhat), and two tattoos above them on each side of his face:D

LOL people who tattoo their faces have to shave any hair that's in the way to get the tattoo done, but then it grows back. So Renji's eyebrows would grow back with the tattoo showing from underneath.

What's really kinda funny is that he must have to shave his hairline for the ones on his scalp to show. Heehee, it would be fun to watch him shave in the morning!

Truly, ever since Rukia's "weird eyebrows" remark I thought that Renji was shaving and replacing his natural eyebrows (visible in Shinigami Academy flashbacks, right?) with ink.

All my Renji dollies and figures and stuff have black where the eyebrows should be. I never noticed Kubo drew them red-brown!

I'm still celebrating Renji's eyebrows!

if you have the picture showing at 1600 x 1600 you can see that kubo draws the red in first, then goes over it with black lines, so the red peaks through.

Truly, ever since Rukia's "weird eyebrows" remark I thought that Renji was shaving and replacing his natural eyebrows (visible in Shinigami Academy flashbacks, right?) with ink.iawtc. But I never tattoed anything in my life so I just figured the hair just stopped growing.

A quick sweep of All Colour But the Black shows Kubo's been drawing his eyebrows like that since a long time ago O.O

Wow! He has both in the same spot! I never knew that. It's like, one day Renji decided to have his eyebrows tattooed, so he got them shaved, then tatooed, then let his natural brows grow back in over them! That's why they look so dark red, and you can see how the tattoo forms a lightning bolt at the end and beginning. So funny! :D

Well yeah we know he has eyebrows it was just sort of where were they since they are kind of hard to notice with that elaborate tattoo. It would make sense that they are red, but they are kind of hard to see. Also it's nice seeing an artist pay attention to detail like that.

I love discovering this! It's such a weird thing to celebrate, but it's so awesome! It's like, we thought we knew him, but we still had something else to learn about him. I must report this to the Renji FC. It'd be BIG news over there...

This is the only chapter I ever noticed that it seemed Renji still had his old eyebrows, in the next page and panels, his eyebrows go back to their normal inked version, but they're so noticable, I always thought that maybe his eyebrows were underneathe, but KT doesn't bother drawing them, I love being proven wrong sometimes.

and Lady Scaper, must agree, it is awesome KT would take the time to draw his normal eyebrows and ink over them. Does make you wonder what happened to that hairline of his. Maybe he does have to shave it, he's just not too consistent with his eyebrows :P. Especially when he has Rukia teasing him about it.

I wonder if his hairline is receding because he keeps it in that tight ponytail so often... that puts stress on the hair and will do that. He should wear it down more often (plus, he looks better with his hair down, in my opinion).

No, his eyebrows are normal-shaped. The black tatoos over his eyebrows are shaped like lightning bolts.

Sorry, that's just not true. They're not shaped completely normally, but they're definitely not shaped like a lightning bolt, either. This is what I see when I blow the image up super huge, and it's unmistakeable. To me, they look like the blade of a katana sword because they're just straight.

I don't think his hair is receding. I think he's too young for that yet. I totally think he shaves the hairline because that was a traditional Japanese style for pretty long time anyway. But he doesn't shave his brows every day because - ouch! have you ever had a razor near your eyebrows? That'd scare me!

The shaved back hairline was a very traditional style (like the crew cut now) in Edo era Japan. When I first saw Renji, I immediately assumed that was what that hair style was

All I was trying to do was correct you. You were mistaken, so I just wanted to point out what was really drawn. It's good that I did that because a bunch of other people were seeing what you saw, and are thanking me for clarifying it for them now. I had no intention of being condescending, but sometimes it seems that way when people point out our mistakes. The most important thing is that no one is confused or misinformed anymore.

It's coming back to me (you'll have to wait for references to verify--I have to go cook dinner) but the young boys available to the Samurai didn't have shaved heads--they were bishie like girls so if you shaved your hair a certain way, you were off-limits as an uke. Something like that.... oh well, time to dig up those yaoi articles.Debbie, sometimes I think you can be a bit too Freudian ^^; In the manga Kaze Hikaru it was said the half-shaved hairstyle relates to a boy's coming of age ceremony to become a man. In an article linked in Wiki's section for Samurai, it's said pederastic relationship in the samurai barracks commonly end when the younger lover has his coming of age ceremony. So that's perhaps how the connection was made. In any case, the older lover is more likely than not to have a wife taking care of his household, while the younger lover grows up to have his own family, as is expected of him by societal norms. I tried googling for articles pertaining this but it's hard not to find one not heavily based on fictional works (especially on the movie Gohatto).
