Well, my second attempt at Rukia, and my first with coloring (can't you seriously tell?). But either way, I'm happy the way it turned out...could have been worse...mmmuucchh worse.

Thanks, Thantos! Yeah lol, I haven't drawn for quite a while now, so line art is pretty much the form I still use. I'm not sure of the other techniques out there.
And again, thank you for commenting! I hope to have more work done soon =D

It's good. *nod* Nothing like, "OMGZ IMA GONNA FAITNZ WOMANZ" but it's nice, yeah. Hope yah post more!
Navirae, it's pretty!:wtf
Good try!
Are you an avid artist or someone who want pursue a career as an artist?
If yes, I can give you more tips to help you improve.
If not, I can say just keep on drawing and enjoy yourself in the process!
What program do you used? Photoshop? :)

lol, alphonse, if you did say that, i would become suspicious :P j/k but thank you very much.
Kaya, eehhh hehe, I love to draw...have been since like the third grade lol. But I took a very long hiatus in between, so my drawings have become, as you can see, quite rusty...and there is just something about drawing anime characters...i have a long way to go before I can fully understand how to draw them perfectly. This was my second attempt at drawing Rukia without any real pictures to look at, so yeah, it can use alot of work.
And I use Paintshop. And though I am not actively pursuing a career as an artist, I always welcome tips and advice! Always looking around and trying to find ways to improve.
Ahh, so you always enjoy drawing as a hobby? That's really nice to hear! :che
Remember, that is the spirit you must always have in life, enjoy yourself to the fullest!
The reason I asked you the questions is because when giving comments, you have to know what kind of level the artist is, so that you can give remarks that is most suitable to the artist.
Great artists are born from wise compliments, not harsh criticisms.
Let me share a bit of my background since you shared yours! :)
I am currently pursuing a career as an professional artist and illustrator.
I have been drawing since I am a kid. I always enjoy drawing as a hobby until I was 15, the age where the society have us to decide your future. But at this tender age, how many of us really know what to do? So it was during that time I think I want to be an artist. Then I ended up in art schools where I suffered badly and there's when I got depression and go hiatus for at least a few years. It was until recently I started drawing once again.
Like they always say, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
That's why I always give encouragement. Artists, writers, singers, dancers, musicians; people in the creative field.
They are like a glass vase.
Beautiful, but extremely fragile.
If not handle with care, they will shatter and be lost forever. However, if they are not used at all because they are afraid of being broken, then their potential will forever be hidden and no one will know its true beauty.
It may be risky to take them out, but at least they can truly shine with brilliancy together with the flowers put inside them.
I am really impressed after reading your description, and this is only your second try! You definitely draw quite often! I believe through more practices, your line is going to be more fluid and lively. Your line here look pretty stiff, restricted; like you are afraid of making a mistake if any lines goes wrong. Don't be afraid. Making mistakes is part of the process and half the fun. :)
You have great photoshop skill, definitely better than me. LOL
I really like how you render Rukia's hair and the background with the butterflies. Awesome stuff there.
My suggestion is to draw more, to gain the confidence to make your lines more freely. Take a paper and just a pencil. Dump your eraser! In learning to draw and have fun, eraser is your enemy. Just draw whatever you think in your mind. Play with it and have fun!
i think looking at real pictures is a great practice, especially you are learning the artist's style.
Hope it help! :glomp

Aaahh, you have no idea how much I enjoyed reading that. I loved your comparison with a glass vase; it is a very true fact I have learned. :hug
To be very honest, while reading about your background in art, I felt as if I was looking at my own past =D
Up to high school (and a bit in college), I used to draw all the time. I enjoyed it immensely, and thought it was something I could be serious about. But of course, with growing up comes a lot expectations from you, and my family were not too thrilled over my desire to become an artist. So of course, I just maintained it as a hobby. I am more used to drawing just random people. The only anime that I ever tried drawing was sailor moon lol. Even then, I never perfected it.
Yes, I definitely agree with my hesitation in drawing Rukia. Thats because before I started to do some serious drawings with her, I tried doing some small doodles on random pages that i could get my hands on, and I found, that she looked nothing like Rukia lol. Thats why when I started drawing this one, I was very careful, and yes, had that eraser right by my side lol. I think I'm just not very comfortable with drawing her with as much ease as I normally do when drawing. Perhaps, as you say, I just need to practice more. Perhaps I'm just in rush to learn how to draw her lol.
Thank you about the coloring. I think I took most time on her hair lol. Its a very big pain being that my scanner refused to work and i took the long way around for it.
BTW, I loved your drawing as well that I saw in a certain FC hehe...I could tell right away of your extremely creative talent =D
:che
If you talk to all artists, you will realised everyone's story seems to have a formula or something. HAHA
Yeah, life is like this...
But still, we have to believe that we can pursue our dreams and be able to do the favourite things in our life even with the expectations.
Artists can be down-to-earth and practical.
Even now, my family don't approve me of being an artist, but I understand that. I know they will eventually understand. It takes time.
SAILOR MOON! :che
I actually drew a simple Sailor Mercury to Lone Wulffe as a gift. If you're interested to see the picture, just leave a PM to me and I'll sent to you to let you know my drawing style more.
I always rush my work too, cos I can be pretty impatient so don't worry. I think sometimes the good work takes time... This is something I got to overcome too!
Thank you so much for your compliments. :hug
Please keep on drawing and post more pictures here to keep the thread alive~

^ Thanks! Yeah, I took one art class where we had to learn this, but still, it looks a bit off...and its even a bigger pain coloring it in on my graphic program...its the only thing thats taking forever to do... -__-*
Ok, here is another one. Not Rukia, but Ichigo this time. This was my first time drawing him with a photo reference. I just couldn't get his face right, so decided to have a picture by my side. It turned out pretty decent...about the most accurate I could get of him...hes too hard XD

Oh that's really lovely Navirae! I like your colors and the butterflies in the BG are a great touch.
eta -opps! I didn't see the Ichigo. I'm sure he'll be awesome when you color him like the Rukia. You should consider putting all your art on the first page. That way people will know where to go to find it all. :)

^ thank you for your sweet comments. And yep, I think I should start putting them in the front since its beginning to get more then one page =D
Navi
:wtf
Awesome, this art thread is expanding! I agree with lookingback7 on updating your front page with your drawings!
It is a very good try on Rukia with landscape. Landscape drawing is difficult and need lots of practices. :)
The bridge looks awesome, but it is the path that made the perspective looks incorrect. It makes the landscape looks more like a painting than Rukia being in a real environment.
Don't worry, Navi.
Read up more on perspective drawing and practice more and you will get the hang on it.
Your Ichigo is very handsome. Excellent try! :hug
Draw a longer face for him next time and you will make a dashing Ichigo!
I will look very forward to your finished artworks
:wtf:wtf:wtf

XD Kaya, thankkk yyoouuu...yes, I agree with basically everything you said lol. I havent done the path way yet for my coloring version, but I honestly don't know how I will either way lol. Definitely need to practice in this field.
Yeah lol, I always feel that I'm missing something in my drawings of Rukia and Ichigo. Ichigo is that he needs a longer face XD and Rukia needs a more smaller one..hehe one of these days... =D
:hug, thank you for commenting!
