Do you know of a group that's just getting ready to burst into the main stream? Or maybe you know an underground band that's just stellar? We want to know. Tell us about any great new band you've been hearing about lately. If you can offer us a sample of the artist's music, that's even better. Let the music flow...

I personally love The Hush Sound. They're beginning to be a bit known with their second album, and that's good because it's great. I heard their first album wasn't so good and that they progressed a lot in between :)
It's an alternative rock band :)

Edit: you can visit their website (http://www.thehushsound.com) with shared music from their last album there. ^^

Streetlight Manifesto

Streetlight Manifesto is made up of several members of ska band Catch 22, and recently released their 2nd album, Keasby Nights, which is actually a remake of the Catch 22 album.

Blending a lot of styles into a unique ska-punk sound, they could be considered a breakthrough band to introduce the 4th wave of ska (3rd wave ska is bands like Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Fishbone) There is a lot more involvement with the horns, and one can detect some Russian influence in some songs on their first album Everything Goes Numb. You can tell that their songwriter draws influences from everywhere, because their sound really is something different.

This band is incredible...they don't have any kind of marketing or anything and they still sell out shows simply from word of mouth. If you ever feel depressed or down their music is a real pick me up; many of their songs deal with coming back from suicide and taking control of your life.

And I'm seeing them live on July 21st.

Paramore

They were sorta known for their first album all we know is falling but not as many people knew about them. With the anticipated release of their second album RIOT! last week i can see the doves beginning to fly and this band starting to get bigger and people enjoying their music just like me from the start. The first album was a more dark album about the bass member Jeremy who left the band and how they felt about the whole upset fo one of their bestest friends ditching them. After the album came out Jermeys problems were resolved and joined the band once again to continue touring with them. Over contstant band member changes with bass and extra guitr players the band have remianed as a four piece consisting of:

Josh Farro - Lead Guitar and backing vocals
Zac Farro - drums
Hayley Williams - lead singer, rhythmic guitar and keyboard on occassions
Jeremy Davis - Bass
Taylor York (Stand In ) - Guitar

Big D and The Kids Table

A crazy name for a crazy band. I saw them live at a Warped Tour a few years back, before their name really got out, and they went nuts. Very fun on stage. They just released a new album called Strictly Rude on the Sideonedummy indie label.

Another ska band, but they also have a very different sound. The unique vocals and mix on the horns gives the music a cool feel not seen in many other bands. The verses tend to be long articulations by the singer, although some of their most upbeat, catchy, songs have a single phrase repeated over and over such as in 'noise complaint' and 'L.A. X'. I can positively say no other song ever written uses the f-bomb more times than in 'L.A. X', which is about their collective hatred of stuck up rich people who rave about L.A. all the time.

You can check out some of their music at http://www.myspace.com/bigdandthekidstable

I recommend checking out the songs "Steady Riot" and "Shining On"

the national lights

not really going to be the next big thing given that folk/indie isn't the biggest of genre's, but their first album "The Dead Will Walk, Dear" is quite beautiful.

really nice harmonies contrast with bleak lyrics and a wide array of instruments to create a great sound.

I'd recommend "Swimming in the Swamp" and "Riverbed" as tracks to check on there and if anyone likes what they hear drop me a pm and I can probably swing you the album >_>

Brain Failure

I found out about Brain Failure because they did a split CD with Big D and the Kids Table. After doing some research, I was surprised to find out that they're actually a Chinese punk band from Beijing. Some of their lyrics are sung in both Chinese and English, which is awesome, especially since its not in Engrish like many J-rock bands, but fluently spoken.

They play real punk rock, nothing like garbage you'd hear on the radio. The sound definitely reminds me of street punk bands, and you can see the influence of bands like The Unseen, The Clash, The Ramones and Dropkick Murphys in their music. As a matter of fact, their album "American Dreamer" was produced by Ken Casey from Dropkick Murphys and even had guest vocals from the singer of The Unseen. If you're a fan of loud fun punk rock take a listen at Brain Failure. Oi!

Oh yeah, another thing...They are the first punk band out of China to ever release an album and tour internationally. About as underground as you can get, when less than 2 decades ago speaking out about social freedoms was taboo and led to things like death. They're actually signed onto a Japanese indie label, as opposed to a Chinese one.

Check out some of their music at: http://www.myspace.com/brainfailurepunk

Or take a look at their offical band website at: http://www.brainfailure.com/

@Nightshift: WOAH. So that's what happened to Catch-22...damn. How similar do they sound to Catch 22? I remember I had a huge ska phase cuz of that album, Keasby Nights...damn.

Badly Drawn Boy

I'm not sure how mainstream he is in the UK, but I know for a fact that he's not very known, even in Seattle, where alot of the underground bands get heard first. His first album was released in 2000 after (I think) 4 EP's, which were pretty popular, despite their limited production.

The album was critically acclaimed and Badly Drawn Boy was successful in winning the 2000 Mercury Music Prize, beating the Doves. After a short break, he returned to score the Weitz brothers film adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel About a Boy. Impressed by his past work, the Weitz brothers asked Gough to score the film, a task which he undertook alone.

His songs are relatively mellow, with a feeling of the simple life pervasive throughout. I remember the first song I heard by him, "Pissing in the Wind." The mood and emotion conveyed by his music is alot like Elliot Smith's stuff, plus a bit of Jack Johnson. A welcome relief from trash like Good Charlotte or whatever else is on the radio nowadays.
