Im in some need of anime. Contrary to popular belief, I havent really watched that many anime series. Anyone have any anime recommendations?
Even though shounen is mostly my fav type of anime, Im really open to anything.
Deathnote, Dragon ball, Claymore, Rurouni Kenshin, Saiyuki, YuYu Hakusho, Hikaru no Go, Inu Yasha, and Buso renkin are all at least pretty good anime:D

Hmm, I guess I could name some of the classics, I don't know if you've seen them or not, but Cowboy Bebob is almost required viewing for any anime fan dub or sub.
Samurai Champloo is bit like the last one except samurai instead of space bounty hunters.
Last Exile which is more about airplanes and air warships.
Death Note is a very psychological anime that is one of the smarter ones out there.
Full Metal Panic is a great blend of comedy and mecha.
Outlaw Star is a old but good anime.
Ouran Host Club is a classic comedy that I think can appeal to anyone.
Black Lagoon is a mature, action packed thrill ride. There are a lot of good animes out there but I don't really know what you've seen. Any of the ones I mentioned I think would be good.

Zombie-loan is underrated, I hope it comes back, not the greatest anime but certainly entertaining, I was surprised that some people completely ignored it.
The other two are very good, personally I think the endings are bit dissapointing for both, but again very entertaining, also good animation for both of those.

Okay, here ya go, as always, no particular order:
Akira
GitS (both the movies and the two series)
Cowboy Bebop
Monster
Fullmetal Alchemist
Escaflowne
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Black Lagoon
Girls with Guns - Trilogy (Noir, Madlax, El Cazador de la Bruja)
Hellsing OVA
Paprika
Elfen Lied
GTO
p.s. the Claymoreanime started really well, but when reaching Pieta it started out being crap imo, would have been better if it had followed the manga truthfully.

vizardo, what would help to find something that you could stand, is if you would list for instance, your favorite series so far. Or at least what type of shows you like, not just shounen.
Kurosaki|Ichigo's list is pretty solid. That actually would be a good place to start if you are looking for anything. Nice Boat is a waste of time. You have to really like the genre. I would also agree with FMP, Champloo and Death Note, if for some reason you have been under a rock and haven't seen those yet. :D Also my completely bais addition of Mai Hime. LOL> Seriously though, that show kicks ass.

Animes that I would recommend (and can remember right now)
Black Lagoon - Its a great action anime, with great underling themes.
Elfin Lied - I don't have words to do it justice, you just have to see it.
Gantz - Great fun, interesting story
All of these have lots of violence, foul language, and other mature content, if you don't like that then don't see them.

I am surprised that people are suggesting D.Gray-man, not that I don't like it because I do, but I always thought in terms of popularity the fillers had killed it off, since the fillers are pretty bad.

I was rewatching this Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi last night and I felt like recommending it, in case you haven't watch it yet. It's a bit weird, but you'll love the comedy and its 'weirdness'. :D And haruhi's high-pitched voice might stay in your ears for some time...

of you're looking for something different, try paranoia agent. it's the same director that made millenium actress and tokyo godfather. it's quite different from standard anime

jyu oh sei is good....until they killed off my fav character >.< but the animation is among the best i must say.
right now i'm watching 'seirei no moribito' (currently on ep 18), beautiful animation and good plot. this is one anime for those who are looking for tough female lead and mystical dimension~

The only series I could recommend are the ones I would watch again
DBZ (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=244) - One of the first series I got into.
Grappler Baki (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2035) - If you like UFC then I'm sure you would like this.
Please Twins (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2297) - Not action and I didn't know why I decided to watch this, but I read alot good comments on it and decided to give it a try and I liked it.
Afro Samurai (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=5275) - It's got Samuel L "muthaf**kin" Jackson.
Tenchi Series/in Tokyo (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=918) - Other than DBZ this was one of the shows I was watching when I got into anime. Tenchi in Tokyo was probably my favorite though.

I've got to voice my support for Serei no Moribito which is a very very good series, very nice animation, very nice character development, the fighting while there isn't much is very well choreographed, great spear fighting scenes, which is a nice reprieve from the usual sword fighting.
One interesting thing about this series is that there really isn't a real villain.
I would highly recommend Kekkaishi if you havent seen that. ^_^

I'm going to have to go a little retro for some of my recommendations:
Rurouni Kenshin -- EXCELLENT anime, and the only series where I actually think that the DUB is better than the SUB. Part of that is due to the fact that the dub uses a guy for Kenshin's voice, as opposed to a girl trying to sound like a guy. The other part is, the VA used (Richard Hayworth (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=1139)) just GETS Kenshin. His voice can shift from playful, to friendly, to bad mofo, in the same sentence. really stellar work, IMHO.
Cowboy Bebop -- this anime just oozes cool, and has the absolute best, most perfectly fitting opening song of any anime, ever. Yes, I mean that. Granted, it's just my opinion, but Tank is just awesome... And I love the character development in it. like with Jet in Ganymede Elegy. then the introduction of Vicious... just great great stuff.
Ronin Warriors -- A shounen series that actually has a great storyline to go with it. Yes, the fights are sweet. Yes, the powers are awesome. Yes, there is a powerless girl and kid who you want to see die by the end. :p but seriously, it's a great ride. And on a side note, my handle comes from one of the characters here. :D
Beck -- A most excellent slice-of-life anime about a 14-year old named Koyuki, who meets up with a guitarist named Ryuuske Minami through an almost random act of kindness. As the story progresses, it's an excellent portrayal on how one decision can forever alter your destiny. just watch it, adn you will understand.
Now, you may be asking 'so, where can I get a hold of these greaet series, because I don't have the coin to acquire them on DVDs ... yet'. Well, point yourself in the direction of my Amine Resource thread (http://www.bleachasylum.com/showthread.php?p=318111#post318111) for all the details. :D
Anyway, those are just a few of my choices... feel free to PM/IM me and we'll talk more about other ones. :D

Most of the anime I would recommend have already been stated here, though I did notice no one mentioned either Vandread or Samurai Deeper Kyo.
Vandread is a strange series, good if you like mech action and relationship/character growth.
Samurai Deeper Kyo is a great series full of action and one of those good "let's change history for a minute here" anime.

i just watched that whole series yesterday
most fucked up series ive ever seen in my life :scared
but it does do quite a good job on reflecting real life more than all the other harm style animes.
anyways, my recommendations:
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann <-- most badass anime you'll ever watch. you'll cry manly tears at the end.
Code Geass & Code Geass R2 <-- awesome plot, character design, animation, etc. A must see.
Soul Eater <-- one of the new spring series based off a manga that ive been following. Good animation, good start to a hopefully great series.
Eureka 7 <-- an anime from like 2005 or so, but also very good. Plot, animation, especially character development are all topnotch. One of my most favorite anime.
and i recommend not watching D.Gray-man. The pace of it is horrendously slow, even without those craptastic fillers. You're better off reading the manga, if anything, as the manga owns :hmph

Prince of Tennis (i love this show so much)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/teiris629/shy.gif
Code Geass (anime thats a mix of X/Death Note/ Gundam Seed)
Claymore (Its gonna be years before season 2 comes out T.T)
Lucky Star (Shojo - anime meant for girls)
The animation on Soul Eater looks so nice, can't wait for more to come out.

GIGA DRILL BREAKER !! lol, one of the most awesome special attacks of all-time
i highly praise Gankutsuou. it`s a variation on the Count of Monte Cristo in the future. It won the 2005 Kobe Award for best anime series of the year (other winners include evangelion, fullmetal alchemist, haruhi suzumiya and code geass so it`s a good indication of its awesomeness.

I highly recommend Vampire Knight.
It is based off of the manga of the same name, and even though there is only a few episodes out, the quality of it is very high.
The OP and ED aren't half-bad either! ((Is a Kanon Wakeshima fan))

i second Ileenka. Mushishi is really refreshing. the anime has beautiful art and the story is slow and relaxing ^^ and Ginko is one cool character.
but the real action movie isnt that great tho..
recommendation: Juuni Kokki, a female-fighting anime. nice history and creature designs.

I HIGHLY recommend you watch D.Gray-man, especially if you like Shonen anime. It's really good, though most people don't like the first few episodes much, it gets waaay better! By episode 56, if you look back, you'll be like "WHOA!" :D Also, if you read manga, you should definitely read it, because the manga has amazing artwork (in my opinion).
Another anime you might want to watch is Dragonaut, I've just started watching it from my friend's recommendation, and it's pretty good, though the girls are uhh.. inappropriately dressed.
There's also Night Wizard, which is based on a video game. Pretty cool, and it has some crazy weapons! :D

I'm already finished with fate/stay night and yu yu hakusho. Also with Rave, but the anime is very cligghangy. I just read the manga and finished it.
I stopped watching d.grayman. I found it boring, but I hope I'll find it interesting again.
Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations is one of the best. Worthwhile 3 episodes if you got sick of the first and second season.
Right now, I'm recommending vampire knights..just because i love bishounen :D
and of course, code geass r2.
Yeah, I just found my new addiction :D

D.Gray-man, once the filler ends, is really awesome!:uhuhfillers ruin it though.
At the moment, I'd recommend...........
Allison to Lillia - In another universe with what seems to be a WWII type setting. It's action adventure and its really good.
Amatsuki - About a boy who gets transported back to Japan from several hundred years ago. Has spirits and samurai and stuff, very interesting.
Code Geass - It's an anime which has many elements. Lots of interesting politics, special powers, mecha, intrigue. Top quality stuff.
Golgo 13 - This is from the new season. It's about an über sniper who is a spy sorta somewhat. He's a world class hitman pretty much and he's emplyed by people all around the world to do special jobs which require ridiculous amount of skill. Top quality as well!
Macross Frontier - It's a futuristic world with mecha but it doesn't seem like any old junky mecha anime. The characters are quite cool and the voice cast is just amazing!
Nabari no Ou - It's about this boy who has this super powerful ninja scroll inside his body and all the ninja clans around Japan want it. So him and his friends try to keep him safe and to learn more about how to remove the scroll from his body. Really good.
Soul Eater - It's in this shinigami world and it centres around several main characters and their weapons which are people. So think Ichigo talking to Zangetsu and arguing etc:XD. They each try to hunt souls in order to turn their weapons into death scythes. Really cool ^^ tipped as the best anime of the new season!
The Tower of Druaga - This is just a fun adventure rpg type anime where lots of different groups try to reach the top of this tower created by the evil god Druaga, and claim the magical crystal rod. Lots of fun!
Vampire Knight - It's set in a boarding high school where there are day and night classes. Night classes are taken by vampires and the day classes are taken by regular humans. It revolves around the relationships and interactions between human and vampires.
I'd recommend all of those:p
Here are some of my recommendations:
Death Note
Code Geass
Gundam00
Initial D
BECK
Black Lagoon
Full metal alchemist
Full metal Panic
D gray man
Fate Stay Night
Air Gear
Gundam Wing
