What movies scared your pants off and which ones were laughable? Or just plain bad lol

I find asian horror movies pretty creepy, not in the BAM!OMG D: way, but the creepy psychological way. Also, my mild belief in the paranormal, or belief in possibility of paranormality, makes these movies creepy, like spirits haunting houses with curses and chasing you around relentlessly.

The best horror movies I can think of ATM are,
- Juon2
- The Eye
- Premonition

I've never liked American horror movies, they tend to unneccessarily add sex when it's not needed at all and are formulaic, ala Jason, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw.

SAW was good, though, but I guess that was more psychological thriller than horror. It does fall in the new American trend (besides remaking asian horror movies and ruining them) of gore for shock value, ala Hostel and the other SAWs.

o.O LOVE horror movies...

agree with the asian horror movies...

I think the first movie that really got to me was the exorcist. Its ok when you are watching it, but when you have to walk around the house at 3 in the morning with all the lights off -__-

The Exorcist is a classic, that freaked me out. What scared the most were the faces that appeared in the dark places while her mother walked around the house.

Oh, those were creepy, especially when you watch it for the first time...

Mine was definitely the scene where Father Merrin has arrived, and we see a closeup of the possessed Megan...just the atmosphere...

Also, the latest 'exorcist' they had made...forgot what its called lol...it was pretty meh, except for the ending...imagine seeing something like that suddenly hanging next to you from the ceiling...

All of the Classics are still scary as hell.

As far as Asian Horro movies, The only one that was good in my opinion was Suicide Club (I think that was the name...)

I love the Hitchcok movies. I find Horror better when you don't know what the hell is hunting you down.
The Imagination is and well always be scarier than Blood and Gore.

As far as Gore Movies go
Saw
Halloween (Both)

And I'll even add a new type of Horror

Funny Horror
The Nightmare on Elm Street movies are still great and funny too (Especialy Freddy's Dead)

And last but not least
Anime Horror
When They Cry (AKA When Cicadas Cry) It has some messed up stuff.

ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG I Luuuuuuurve horror:D:D

Saw ain't a horror movie and it is not gore either..atleast, in my opinion though I still love it (one the first 2, perhaps 3) because of the psychological game that's played and there are these sick bastards out there that could literally make this happen..now that is fucked up right there;)

The Exorcist- don't get me started, this flick is BORING! When i watched it with my mom (on a sunday afternoon and I was like 16) I just said to my mom; oo, was this a scene that was cut out? my mom; yeah. all I could say was; but that's not scary at all!

Ju-on 2- I saw this one on Asiamania (Mtv) a few years back and while my parents and other people were in the room playing cards I was scared to death...this flick was scary people!!

Battle Royale- don't think this flick was a horror but the plot sure is interesting:D It's a funny/gorey film.

The Shining- read the book:D But yeah, this flick was good with Jack Nicholson going nuts.

It- it says enough<----not good for little children..though when you're a teen it's a 'funny' film.

The Ring a good one! (sadly still haven't seen the original version>.<)

Ichi the Killer- pretty gruesome though nothing scary about it (not even sure if it's a horror:D)

I am legend- good, though the zombies look like crap

28 days later- Just perfect!! (not scary though)

More flicks coming soon when I can remember 'em:D

And thanks guys, I sure need to see premonition (btw, isn't Sandra Bullock playing in that one?) and the eye...that one should definitely be fun! Oow and suicide school (or something like that) sounds fun aswell!!

Ah yes, I forgot about the Steven King Movies.
The Shining was amazing
The Stand was Meh. The Demon sucked. Everything else was good
Salem's Lot was great.

As for the Exorcist
Try watching it at night in a Movie Theater and you gotta fucking walk home.
It'll fuck with your head.

Well, now that you said 28 Days, I gotta list the All time Great Zombie Movies.
Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Land of the Dead
Resident Evil (1st 2)
28 Days Later
28 Weeks Later

Scariest thing I've ever watched: The Wyoming Incident videos. They may or may not be still up on Youtube and they turned out to be a big hoax, but they still scare me.

Best Horror Movies I've Seen:
Session 9
Jacob's Ladder
The Changeling
This Thai flick with this guy who found ghosts in pictures he took. I forget the name.

Pretty Good:
Kairo
The Shining
Ringu
Se7en

So Bad I Laughed:
Silent Hill

It- it says enough<----not good for little children..though when you're a teen it's a 'funny' film.

I totally agree. My dad had me watch it when I was 6, and ever since then I've been afraid of clowns.

I used to love Horror flicks, up until I saw 'The Blair Witch Project'. Which I felt nothing when I was watching it, and thought it was a waste of money. Then came night time, and my mind started playing tricks on me ... I kept thinking something was watching me from outside my window, and till this day going into the woods irks me >.<! As the saying goes : We fear what we cannot see ... that's definitely something of truth!

I'm not one for gore, and definitely not in a league with you guys here :p
I'm alot tamer these days when it comes to horror flicks, sticking to something cute like 'Sleepy Hollow', 'Signs' and 'The Sixth Sense' ... no way am I brave enough to watch J-horrors anymore!

Shutter, perhaps? I really want to see that.

Silent Hill

Silent Hill was good for the first couple of minutes, then died as soon as religion and junk played too big a part for Silent Hill. Which is a part too much, period; It's Silent Hill, why are there people living there and wtf, religion? Please.

Another J-Horror movie, The Locker (shibuya kaidan) was creepy as hell. Dead baby in coin locker that haunts these teens that broke a statue meant to help pregnant mothers or miscarriages or something. o__o

I did enjoy the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I don't consider it horror but the intensity and the atmosphere of it.

Hostel was a funny movie I thought, I don't know why so many people called it horror. I saw it in the theaters and some people glared at us as they walked out because we were laughing so much.

Halloween one of best horror movies, the remake suck so much.
It was a good movie also. I saw It when I was young and my bed was positioned so that when I lied down I saw the street light through my window, so I didn't get a good nights sleep for a while after that lol.

2.Shutter, perhaps? I really want to see that.

1. The video actually starts out with a picture that says "We Present a Special Presentation". Then continues to eerie phrases, music and faces. I believe the first one has 'YOU WILL SEE SUCH PRETTY THINGS'.

2. Yeah, Shutter! It's worth watching. :)

I think Ring was scary the first time I watched it, mostly because of the scenes that just jumped at you. If you aren't expecting it, then those will definitely scare you. But after watching it, knowing where things are and what is going to happen, it wasn't that bad.

The grudge, I thought, was slightly creepier, only because they showed the ghost every other moment (the one on the bus creeped me out). Just like Ring, it relied also heavily on just very out of the blue jumps that pretty much shook me a couple of times.

"It"...I'm glad I didn't watch this when I was little lol. But even though it isn't much of a horror movie for me, I still rather enjoyed it.

Twenty Eight days later was a favorite of mine. Though the storyline of zombies has been used quite often, it still looked refreshing and worth the watch. Haven't had a chance to watch the sequel.

And...I swear I can't remember the name of the movie...its at the tip of my tongue, and I am so mad because its not even old...about the three teens who enter the woods to make a documentary about that witch. It scared me initially because it was touted as a true story...ggaahhh, the name is sort of coming to me...The blair witch project!! there we go XD

'Sleepy Hollow', 'Signs' and 'The Sixth Sense'

3 amazing Movies
M. Night and Tim Burton know how to make something scary and awesome/funny at the same time.
Tim Burton knows how to even make a movie for Kids Fucked up is some way or another!
Of course I am talking about Nightmare before Christmas.
The whole "Kidnap Mr. Santyclaws" song is messed up and awesome.
And of course he knows how to make Beetlejuice real.
M. Night knows how to make every genra of movie and make it good and scary. With cool plot twists and funny Dark Humor. His movies just rock.
I love Signs. One of my favorites by him

If forgot to mention one of the best horror movies of all time JAWS. Not many people think of it as a horror movie but that movie change how millions of people felt about the ocean. It was so well done also, never truly seeing the shark until the very end, gave you the sense that it could be anywhere and there is nothing you can do about it. Its funny JAWS actually got me interested in sharks.

Its funny JAWS actually got me interested in sharks.

I don't really want to know which film made you interested in phytoplankton then --- *Shudders*...

I absolutelly LOVE horror films. Be it the typical slasher film, or psichological terror, HORROR is definitelly my favorite genre.

I glanced some other posts, and personally:

SAW and HOSTEL: This ones I like for the gore... I mean, there is no real terror in any of them. You see the victim, are 80% sure of his fate- the only remaining thing is to see what actually happens to them... I particularly enjoyed Hostel 2 because of it's twists (Anyone who has seen it knows what I'm talking about...) - On the SAW franchise: The first one was psichological, but the second and third one were more based on the torture or gadgets the victims had to endure...

J- Horror: Just love it. Though I must say, it's different when you first see the remake... I for once, enjoyed both "Ring" and "Ring 2"- given they are considerably different from the original (Specially Ring 2) -

I could go on rambling for hours on horror movies, but for the sake of readers, I'll stop now.

Mwhua, same with me XD
After I saw the movie, I was fascinated by sharks and especially carcharodon carcharias :p
Yet, I'm scared to death of deep waters now and I would probably have a heart attack if I saw a shark coming toward me lol.

I used to be a big fan of horror movies, but my passion died a bit. I blame the slasher trend.

Anyway, my all favorite horror movie is The Thing (1982) from Carpenter. I know it's a remake but for once, that remake achieved perfection. Everything is so creepy and tense: the setting, the special effects (die CGI, die! :yell ), the actors (without any women!), the ending etc...
Oh and I have to mention the Alien series too, even if they managed to ruin it with those "Alien versus Predators" suckfest. Those facehuggers still haunt my nightmares *shudders*

LOL! Same here XD After watching "The Grudge", I couldn't take them anymore...

But I do have a few that I quite like; a lot are oldies, though:

House on Haunted Hill (1959)
Final Destination (2000)
The Stepford Wives (1975)
Poltergeist (1982)
The Omen (2006)
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Aliens (1986)
The Haunting (1963 & 1999)
The Last Man on Earth (1964)
What Lies Beneath (2000)
The Birds (1963)

28 Days Later - Best zombie movie, imo. Good story, great characters. Also, the music was awesome. I listen to a lot of the tracks on my iPod all the time :p What I liked about it is that it had a realistic "this could happen" feel to it, like I am Legend, but without the fail religion and surprise! other survivor plot device. 28 Weeks Later was fail. So many things in that movie defied common sense and logic. For example, I have a gun with a light and we're in a dark tunnel with stairs that are riddled with bodies. Kids, up front! >___>

Ju-on was kinda low budget since it was the first, I guess, but it still freaked me out. Ju-on2 was scary as hell. Kayoko (I think) looked much better, no more cheap makeup, and the little stories around each character were unique and just plain scary. Worst scenes for me were the copy machine, Chiharu's crazy mind trip between the house and reality, and the birth scene. ><'' Juon 3 and 4 were all right, 4 almost repeated 3 for some reason. The school and the part where all the photos change to Kayoko's face were scary.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - I only watched bits and pieces, but I laughed throughout. The opening scene with the girl suiciding was, hm, interesting, and the end where the girl and guy are chased through the house was funny and predictable.

The Ring was kinda creepy, especially when they opened the closet. I have to admit, I had to close my open closets for a while after that. But other than that, it was all right. Ringu was boring, and I have yet to watch Ringu 2.

OH! I was scared to bits as a kid when they showed the reruns on TV. Hahaha. I used to freak out whenever some kid in my piano class played the E and F key repetitively on the lower octave to emulate the escalating suspense background music in the movie. Haha. I was pretty young then.

Those Alien vs Predators really sucked. I could never finish watching them. (Then again, a lot of people said Transformers is awesome but I still couldn't finish watching it. Hahaha) I remember renting old vids and watching some horror with friends, 'The Evil Dead' and 'The Return of the Evil Dead' or something. Gah, they're such a torture to watch because if I were the main character, I'd rather die than to be tortured like that. Say even if he did get out of there alive, it would haunt him forever. I say immediate death is a blessing. -__-

I watched this a few years ago. :D It was soooo scary. Haha, I gripped my friend's arm so tight until it was all red with fingermark prints. :o He said it wasn't all that scary, I think guys are mostly lying when they say they're not scared. :hm

I watched the English version, The Grudge later on. It wasn't as good, and Ju-On 2 explained a lot of things, which I like. Still prefer both the original versions, as expected.

The Ring was kinda creepy, especially when they opened the closet. I have to admit, I had to close my open closets for a while after that. But other than that, it was all right. Ringu was boring, and I have yet to watch Ringu 2.

This is such an old movie, but you still hear people talking about it. My friend told me some old men who watched this movie in Japan when it first released died of heart attacks. Lol, senior citizens shouldn't watch horror movies. However, this movie and its sequel did not scare me at all. I don't know, it's - it's so hyped that I'm expected to be scared but ended up not being frightened by it. ._.

I watched some really bad Asian horrors as well. Hong Kong horrors are mostly HORRID. STAY AWAY! Except that I watched a couple and they're alright. The titles escape me at the moment. :p Not very memorable.

There are some Korean horrors like The Wishing Stairs and The Tale of Two Sisters. The first one is a waste of time. I kept waiting to be frightened but the scenes never came. It's a series of, "Oh, it's coming, it's coming." And then poof, nothing. "Oh, it's coming for sure now." Poof, nothing. I just despise it.

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/2867/1184776712927cd8.jpg

This is not scary at all. -_-; I got all excited wanting to watch it but :mad

The Tale of Two Sisters is pretty good, but rather sad. It's worth a watch. It scared me to bits. But when it ended, you realise it isn't really a ghost story. It's more of a psychological thriller. It's really sad. This is like when I watched Dark Water (the Japanese version).

Oh, I think there was an old horror released about the same time as The Ring, called The Scarecrow (Kakashi). Shibasaki Kou acted as the main ghost, it was sooooo - weird. I love her a lot, but seeing her in the red garment renders me speechless. It wasn't really scary, but it's just a lot of weirdness and not a lot of things are explained. It fails. ._.

Some people think it's good though, but I don't think it is. xD

Chuckie.

Anytime you have a doll who comes to life, its scary. We used to have a chuckie doll and my brother would ducttape a knife to its hand and leave it in the house xD Yet, i watched this moviewhen i was 5 or 6.. and it made me terrified of all dolls, especially the raggedy anne dolls if anyone knows what im talking about.
http://images.google.fr/images?gbv=2&svnum=10&hl=fr&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&q=raggedy+anne&spell=1

IT.
made me terrified of clowns, and sewers. I was also really little wen i saw this.
http://images.google.fr/images?gbv=2&svnum=10&hl=fr&q=IT+clown

The grudge terrified me when i was in the theater with my friends watching it, and the theater was basically..empty.. and we were the last row. I pulled a prank on my sister when she watched it and i pulled on her legs while she was sleeping xD it was pretty creepy though.
the japanese version is WAY scarier.

What else...

Ah some people are terrified of Jurrasic Park, but i LOVED that movie so much, its one of my all time favorites. Raptors ftw.

Blair Witch was stupid. xD

I couldnt stand the Jason movies, they scared me. We have a glow-in-the-dark jason mask, actually, and when i see it i still jump.

Lady O, wouldn't you classify Sweeney Todd as Goth rather than Horror? :huhuh It's also comedy and satirical, hence why I called it crack. A friend described it as:

"Urea in the elixir! Ghey flamboyant! Happy dancing for the excitement of killing!"

Well, I changed 'piss' to urea.

Anyway. It really doesn't classify as horror.

Alright. I watched Sakebi.

The female ghost was attractive, I can't see her as a ghost at all. I kept staring at her and pondering about her loveliness and how funny it is that she had to put on a horrific face (a face that I would put on to scare my 9 year old cousin or something). It's just hilarious, especially when she leaped off the building only to fly away like Superman. :ohh <-- This is serious. You have to watch it to know what I mean.

I think I like One Missed Call better. ALSO BY SHIBASAKI KOU!!! Nyaaaa~ That scared me, though. :D

There was a similar story, called The Phone. But it's Korean and it's pretty sad. I dislike the ending, though. Check them out, okie? :D

Lady Orihime

Well, unless you see it for yourself, I wouldn't make any judgments. Why did you edit "horror" out of your post?

Tale of Two Sisters a) scared me when it meant to and b) is a BEAUTIFUL movie. I love it and re-watching it is great because you see new things and come up with new theories.

Too bad Hollywood is remaking it. Original KRN version ftw.

Saw
I love the insane psychology 'tests' on the characters. IT'S SERIOUSLY SICK. This movie can make me fork out my two eyes anytime. It's not something that makes you get goosebumps, but rather gives you some sort of tension and/or depression from the psychopathic lunatic giving them all poor people sick options in order to survive.

Exorcist
The very first one of all. That green-faced-girl running down that flight of stairs in such a 'wrong' way makes me run down the stairs of my apartment for a whole week! Damn image won't come out of my head.

Tale of Two Sisters
I have problems with closets, cupboards and the like after watching this thing for like three days.

The Ring
The only part that scared the Hell out of me was the part where that little girl was pushed down in the well. I can't imagine dying in suck darkness. Other than that, I think the movie was sort of funny.

Watched APT 9:56.

There are a few 'shocked' scenes but they are very cliche and corny, especially after Ju-On and The Ring they became sort of stale. Some parts are still very eerie, though. Like many ghost stories, this one is filled with loopholes and things that are not understandable.

It's not great but still scary. xD

I prefer Japanese horror movies, because they're unique in their own way =>

My favorite one is ring the japanse version of course ^^

I watched one missed call, I recommend you to see the TV shows, it's much much better and has a very twisted story

Thank you ileenka for the links ^^ it seems interesting, I might give it a try <3

Horror movies :love my best genre of movies XD

I prefer Japanese horror movies, because they're unique in their own way =>

My favorite one is ring the japanse version of course ^^

I watched one missed call, I recommend you to see the TV shows, it's much much better and has a very twisted story

one missed call ... tv shows? .__. Do you mean the japanese trilogy?

Mm, 1408 was good, I thought. I really enjoyed it and it didn't have the cheap American horror elements that I hate, like predicatibility and gratuitous sex/sensuality.

A recent 'horror' movie I watched was Godsend, which, IMO, was promising, but in the end, disappointing.

I just finished watching:

The Evil Twin.

You can watch the entire movie here:

Part 1 (http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1122603bMSeRf68)

Part 2 (http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1123038HZEcwAnF?searchId=5949812942077251923&rank=2)

Part 3 (http://www.veoh.com/videos/v112341634b7TmW9?searchId=5949812942077251923&rank=6)

Part 4 (http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1123911WzZj6JjM?searchId=7913115718954594492&rank=3)

There's one scene in Part 2 or 3 that made me scream at 3 am in the morning. I'm not sure if it will make you guys scream... the other parts aren't all that horrifying. There's a bath scene which is pretty gross....

But at the end of this movie, I tear up so badly. It's so sad. There's this dude/dudette who wrote a review of it on the web (I'm not sure if I linked it in the previous post, but if I did, then I'm sorry because the reviewer is clearly mistaken. Hence deleted.) So listen to me... this is a tear jerker at the end. :cry Must watch if you loved A Tale of Two Sisters.

eh, I don't really like horror movies, honestly. they seem to waste my time with...evil.

But I'll have to say, the dumbest one I've ever seen is the remake of When a Stranger Calls. That was just pure stupidity. I laughed the whole way through.

YES, zombie movies FTW XD Though, yea, I'm not sure they count as 'horror'. I like to categorize zombie movies as, well, zombie movies XD Like 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead. Excellent.

Hm, anyone know of any good mindfuck horror movies? I'd love some :D Tale of Two Sisters was kind of one, I guess, since the plot twist makes you rethink the entire movie.

my only favs are "Sleepy Hollow", "Shining" and "The Frighteners"
and for the trash-level "Tremors" XD

otherwise, I'm not really a big fan of splatter, "buhu"-effects and screeching, stupid women
at least not in movies...

I love the Saw series alot, I think the fourth one was the best...well it's between the third and the fourth acutally.
I can't wait to see The Eye and Shutter.
For some reason that I have yet to still find out, The Grudge scared me half to death the first time I watched it. Now I laugh at it though.
I also really enjoyed Stay Alive.
I love Horror movies all together, they would probably be my favorite genre.

I just recenlty watched Awake...My family loved it but it just didn't catch my attention to well.

I just watched the Thai version of Shutter and I thought it was scary as hell. That movie gave me 3 or 4 really good scares that seriously made me jump in my seat. The ending wasn't as scary as I've heard, though. I actually thought it was kinda cute .__.

Have you watched Chakushin Ari the drama? I watched it about 3 weeks ago. I thought the beginning was interesting, until it started to suck after Episode 6 or so. The ending was really HORRID. Yes, there are several twists to the story, but it felt contrived, and they gave me the feeling they're twisting the story just for the sake of twisting and it was really obvious.

I watched 1408, it was O-K for me. There weren't explanations to the ongoings, which annoyed me a little. I downloaded Stephen King's e-book to see if there were any explanations for the hauntings in that room but it was even worse - no explanations were given. The extra scenes in the movie was inserted by Hollywood. :(

I heard about Shutter. Thanks for bringing it up again, I think I'm going to watch it soon. :)

Horror movies... I am yet to see a horror movie that can really scare me XD
I Am Legend is good... I find the Texas chainsaw massacre creepy in a disgusting way more than scary, and the saw movies too.
Jeepers Creepers 1 was sad/scary, the second one is funny! didn't see the third one yet.
