hey...does any1 read, or has any1 read, or atleast heard of this?

i used to watch the anime (foolish decision that was), but cos of the way it deviated from the manga soo/too much, and left out 90% of info, i decided to read the manga instead.

i was looking forward to it that much, but then saw it was actualy pretty cool.

it has quite a few similarties to bleach i noticed. i'm also starting to think it has too many similarities to be a coincidence...

anyway it's about like spirits and stuff and shamans. they can use lots of different type of magic, most revolves around the manipulation of spirits i guess.

shamans have some kindof of power called furyoku. they use it to manipulate spirits and do all sorts of magic. spirits seem to have reiryoku just like in bleach, though it's written as reiyoku sometimes, although i think thats just a typing error maybe...

there's this shaman tournament which occurs every 500 years where the great spirit emerges, which is basically just the combined sprits of all living things from the beginingof life on earth i guess. so its a very large collection of power. the shaman tournament is where all shamans compete to find the strongest shaman to fuse with the great spirit and become shaman king. i think a former shaman king was so powerful that they erupted all volcanoes on earth at once, killing 1/3 of life on earth. so the shaman king is pretty powerful. they also gain the combined knowledge of the great spirit too, so the shaman king is like a god i guess.

the main shamn powers/means of combat is by doing something called oversoul.

it's when they use objects to channel their spirit allies through, creating weapons and/or gainig speical powers. their are variations of oversoul like spirit type, weapon type and armor type...

spirit allies also can be classed as normal, higher-class and god-class.

erm...there are some over stuffi wanna write but can't think of right now...

there are things like hollows too. they're called oni though.

spirits that are consumed with negative thougts etc can transform into oni (hollows). they're all mindless i think. its also possible for lots of oni to combine into whats called a king oni (a menos basically...). king oni are pretty powerful but also regain a personality (like a menos...).

the storyline is pretty cool really. i recomend reading it. it's very interesting i think. i'm trying to write as much as i can to draw ppl in :cry.

if you've seen the anime b4...don't mention it plz. its COMPLETELY different. they changed so much and messed it up.

this is some stuff about the villain and stuff...he's the best!
the bad guy is awsome. i think he's my fave villain out of all villains i know. his name is hao asakura and he lived around 1000 years ago and was the most powerful shaman on earth. he mastered ALL forms of magic and could manipulate the 5 elements too.

he eventually went crazy and started to hate normal humans cos he thought they were destroying the earth and didn't care about it. (shamans are really connected to nature and the earth cos they can manipulate spirits and stuff) he mastered some ability called reishi which allows you to read the heart/feeling of ppl around you. cos of some tragic incident (:cry) his reishi abilty became a permanent 24/7 ability, so he couldn't turn it off. since he was already hating humans, this just made it worse. and since he was like the most powerful guy at the time he was pretty difficult to stop...

i think he was killed by his family...but that didn't really stop him cos while he was alive he learn't the secret of reincarnation. reincarnation is something impossible to learn cos you have to make a contract with the (main/official) devil. and to get to him you need to get past 75 other devils first. it's nearly impossible for spirits and he did it while still human i think. so that should prove his greatness.

anyway he reincarnated 500 years later for the shaman tournament again. but instead of reincarnating into the asakura clan, he reincarnated into the patch clan; they're the guys who are in charge of and organize the shaman tournament. so i guess he thought it would be like a shortcut to becoming shaman king by being in the patch clan.

whilst in his second life he also stole the spirit of fire, one of the 5 god-class elemental spirits, to become more powerful than he already was.

he actually was defeated again though (:cry), by an asakura no less, asakura yohken, and his former best friend from 500 years ago, a 2 tailed cat spirit called matamune.

btw i think when powerful ppl have children, their children become powerful too, so it is hao's on fualt that yohken beat him cos he was a decendant of hao if you understand...

anyway...hao then reincarnated once more 500 years later, which is present day-ish, the main storyline time, to participate in the shaman tournament again. this time he reincarnated in the asakura clan again so was by default more powerful i guess cos he was his own decendant right? unfortunately when he reincarnated he was reincarnated in a life that became twins. so i guess his soul went into the newly concieved life, but it spilt into indentical twins i guess. one had al of hao's memories and stuff, while the other became the main character who's name is yoh asakura.

ppl in shaman king have furyoku powerlevels too. similar to dbz i guess. the villian hao has furyoku of 1,250,000 while the main protaganists only have furyoku lower than 200,000. the main character's is only 108,000. i don't see how they will beat him...

espeicaly considering they just let hao become shaman king and will now become a god...he is the most powerful guy by far already and now they let him become this powerful why...?

anyway shaman king ended without a proper ending so in a few months shaman king is gonna return for the final conclusion thank goodness.

it ended so far with the main characters having to fight the 10 espada...i mean the 10 patch clan preists, sorry, and hao becoming shaman king. i guess all left to see if hao vs the 5 elemental warriors (5 of the man characters). so it better be good...though i don't see how they can win...

PLEASE READ THE MANGA

I've read it, not much, but I truly got hooked to it. The anime is more to being mainly funny and hilarious, and it does give away little information. I've only read up to Volume 3 of the manga series, but from the first book it already caught my attention. I will read more of it sometime.

Hao is a very interesting antagonist in my opinion, power-wise or background-wise. Now I can't say much, but I really like it. While being a manga, it also tells stories of shamans all over the world, in the same time spreading knowledge about them. It's a good series in my opinion.

oh, its coming back for a proper ending, i never heard anything about that

i think the series overall is good, it isn't a favorite of mine or anything, but it is interesting

hopefully the manga won't end like the anime did, the ending was just silly (but it was unique for an anime that changed the story around so much)

What? Shaman King is coming back? Oh wow that's good news! And i'm shocked about Hao! I didn't like the anime ending so I decided to read the manga too I was pissed when the manga didn't continue but I'm glad is back! (It was on hiatus or something?) Do you know where can I read the new chapters or something? or where did you find the news? Beacuse I thought that Hiroyuki Takei was busy with that other manga of his called "Jumbo Something" or something like that...I also wish that he could continue Butsu Zone too that would be great Satchi,Sennju and Ashura are my favorite characters there (and the Anna here is very different too).

I've finally caught up with the manga series. :D

And that site is indeed useful, tari. So thanks again. I'm really looking forward to the real ending, although it will take some time.

I'm so glad to know that they're gonna write a proper ending for SK.

Yep, I've read SK. Pretty solid, standard shonen fare. Enjoyed it, but wouldn't call it anything special.

As for it coming back, it won't be released in SJ or any other publication. What's going down is they're republishing the Shaman King tankobon, and will wrap up the story in this fashion, releasing the remaining chapters strictly by the volume. At least, that's the way I've heard it's going to happen.

EDIT: Tari already explained it, oh well.
