View Full Version : TV shows you wish weren't cancelled.

TV shows nowadays don't have the same originality like it did, say 10 years ago. So let's reminisce about the shows that ended too soon...
I really miss "In Living Color" since it is the only sketch comedy show known to have a majority cast of POC (people of color). It launched the career of Jim Carrey, even though he was the token white guy of the show. Also, the skits with subversive biting social commentary were awesome. And you had classic characters like Homey D. Clown, Fire Marshall Bill, Wanda, Vera de Milo and the Men on Film.
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air....it ended so soon, and on such an anti-climatic note. (They moved out of Bel-Air) You gotta love pre-blockbuster Will Smith and the ever dorky Carlton (Alfonso Ribiero). And it was a well-written show to boot!

I never really had the chance to watch "In Living Color". But, I love the "Prince of Bel-Air"! I think they still show that on TV (My TV doesn't have 'Nick' or 'Nick @ Nite' T_T)..... Sorry, going off topic...
Anyway, most of the shows they took off that I hate that they did (many are cartoons- yes I STILL watch cartoons). Many of the cartoons they show now and days is plain---- stupid... Like, "My Gym Partners a Monkey"...? WTH is that?!? But, the good ones that were taken off are:
1) Pepper Ann
2) Doug (Classic man...)
3) Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers
4) Can't believe I am saying this one, but- Gummy Bears (Why does that song STILL run in my head?!?)
5) Quack Pack
6) Danny Phantom (????- I THINK this was recently or a year back)
Hmmm...... There are probably others, but I don't know them at the moment :p. I know there shows that were canceled- but I can't think of them at the moment---- it'll come to me later... :p

Oh, how I hate when a TV show I love meets a premature demise and goes to join the graveyard of other cancelled TV shows :cry
Right now, I can think of two shows I truly enjoyed but which still were cancelled after one or two seasons : CarnivĂ*le (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carniv%C3%A0le) and Earth 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_2_(TV_series)).
Those shows weren't without flaws, but writing was good, acting was often great and the premise was original. I guess they cost too much to produce (special effects, settings and all that stuff).

Arrested Development, the funniest show since Seinfeld, and it was canned just because of its horrible timeslot. What Fox expected out this show by putting it up against heavy hitters like Lost I'll never know. Extremely smart show, that used running jokes extremely well, it also had an actual storyline that was interesting. The show also had an extremely well rounded cast, with people like Jason Bateman, Micheal Cera (who starred in Superbad), David Cross, Jeffrey Tabor, and others. Hell the show won 6 Emmys in only 2 and half seasons, that is what you call quality.
Futurmama and family guy top the list, but they got uncancelled:p
still cancelled shows
Yes Dear, that show was hilarious
and probably something else, but I can't remember

Titus that show was so funny. Firefly was a great show also.

Hmm when thinking about it perhaps Danny Phantom, but seeing the final episode last week (which was quite horrid) I think they did a good thing cancelling it. I mean, I've seen better episodes. But also, they can't recycle everything and that was what they were doing..
Sad it had to end so soon though.
Oow and Trinity Blood! I want to know what's reeaally up with Cain, but too bad..no more. Though the Vatican stuff was quite boring.

12-20-2007, 08:39 PM
omg Titus, I used to love that show, it didn't even make one season I think.
Futurama was also a good show, that I thought was better than its brother The Simpsons, a lot edgeier and generally a better storyline, there were actually some emotional episodes, like the one focusing on Fry's dog.

I heard there were going to be new Futurama episodes next year. There are a few Futurama direct-to-DVD movies out though. ^_^
Also, Adult Swim in the US will stop running Futurama episodes :(
The good thing about some of these cancelled shows is that most of them are avaliable in DVD format. Huzzah for technology XD

FRIENDS <3333 Omg how i love that show SO MUCH. I didn't want it to end at all and i felt so depressed after the last episode. Am not sure if it counts though since there's always re runs on E4 over here.
Stuff like Vicar Of Dibley and all the UK comedy classics to be fair. I miss laughing at new ones of those.
Can't think of anything else really.

Freaks and Geeks - it feels a little bittersweet that Judd Apatow is now cleaning up with his films because this show was great.
The Critic - I have a soft spot of self-deprecating characters voiced by Jon Lovitz.
Arrested Development - yeah, just great
Mr. Show - David Cross and Bob Odenkirk's mid-90s sketch show on HBO meant they could do pretty much anything. Among the cast were Brian Posehn and Tom Kinney, the voice of Spongebob.

Errr, loz, Friends wasn't canceled. >.> It ran it's course and ended at a appropriate time. :D
Probably the latest shows I can remember that I actually watched that I wish weren't canceled were, Enterprise and Traveler. Both had soo much potential.

Politically Incorrect, I know Bill Maher has a show on HBO but I don't have HBO. Other than that Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Greg the Bunny, and Red vs. Blue (I know it wasn't a tv show but it was still great).

I have to go with all my childhood classics. Doug, Rocko's modern life, I never saw any true endings. It all felt so rushed if the shows from back then did end. I'm glad they aren't adapted into this day, but I miss the old shows.

I think they shouldn't have cancelled Arrested Development. That show was classic. It was smart-funny, not the kind of slapstick, gross-out type of funny. I don't even see it on G4 that much anymore. D:

Dead Like Me was the awesomest show. And Season 2 had such better writing than season 1. It just bugs me so much that it got cancelled (whoever took over the network didn't like the show).
Carnivale should have continued too. They said they only had one season left to explain everything so I don't see why they couldn't have just stuck through instead of ending the series on a cliffhanger.
I liked Futurama too. But I'm a little hesitant to the prospects of it coming back because I don't really like any of the recent seasons of Simpsons. It's almost like they're trying to be Family Guy now and I miss the old Simpsons humour.
Invader Zim ; ; I loveded you piggy!

As far as cartoons go?
Invader Zim (SO hilarious)
Rocko's Modern Life
Futurama (I'd have real, seasonal episodes rather than cut-and-spliced movies)
Pirates of the Dark Water *HELL- YES*
Wait Till Your Father Gets Home (I'm not sure if anyone remembers this one)
As far as Live Action goes:
Are you afraid of the Dark, from Nickolodean. Definatley miss that one.

Firefly
Dead Like Me - I know there's a film coming up but I just don't think I could see anyone other than Laura Harris playing Daisy. And no Mandy Patinkin? For shame...
Carnivale sort of. I mean, they had originally planned for 3 seasons so I would have liked to see the final season but they quit after 2. I wasn't in love with the show, but it would have been nice to see a resolution.
And the last season of Angel was my favourite. But then it just.. ended. It was great while it lasted though, with Spike and Angel and all. I hated Connor and all that wierd Jasmine crap, but once they moved into Wolfram&Hart I thought the show was getting really good.
The first season was amazing too. I still miss Doyle...

EXACTLY!!! i personally haven't watched heroes, after Surface and Invasion were cancelled, i gave up on television dramas and tv altogether. but i loved the 4400 it was one of my all time favs.
another one which should not have been cancelled and totally didnt make sense was the cancelization of Crusade...Babylon5 has enough of a following to support that show, so why did it fail? they didnt even complete a whole season, that was such Bull Sh*t!
and yet stargate continues to go on and on and on in so many different forms... i'll never figure that out...

Well Farscape (I worked really hard on the whole Farscape campaign to get the miniseries and I have an FC here so join up)
Firefly - Why!! It was so good, everything worked. Everything, writing acting, costumes, special effects, just perfect
The 4400 it was getting so good. I really liked the political side of things being added to it.
Although it wasn't cancelled, the current Battlestar Galactica. Although I have problems getting into the show, I still think it deserved more then 4 seasons

In ten pages, Firefly probably has been mentioned millions of times, but oh well. One more time won't hurt. =] It was an awesome show. T-T The fact that Firefly was ignominously shuffled around and then cancelled in the first season while shows like Lost and Alias lasted millions of seasons is the reason I no longer believe in God.

You know, the show was bad. It was plain campy, corny, and bad. But for some bizarre reason, I really happened to enjoy it. It was just a guilty pleasure.
Second, John From Cincinatti. It was a really strange show, and started off slow, which is why it was probably canceled, since it didn't build an audience. But people who stuck with it saw it for what it was: a really incredible snapshot of life, mixed with a mysterious smattering of science fiction. I thought it was plain brilliant, and I'm still sad that HBO canned it.
And I second what someone said about Battlestar Galactica, although this season is proving to be freaking amazing, so... Maybe not. I'm sad that this will be the last season, but the way things are playing out, it might not be as good if the show were to extend further.
