the villain ofthe movie is the joker if you didn't know...

i'll post some more info...i thought evry1 knew about this movie.

Yeah I knew about that, though seeing someone else portraying the Joker instead of Jack Nicholson is a big flaw in my opinion. No one, and then I mean NO ONE can even surpass Jack in that role.

but christian bale is a good Batman...though I still love Michael Keaton the best portraying him.

and jeeeeeej Cillian Murphy is back in the film! I love him:love

As quoted by Radtke who seen the 6 minsForget Nicholson, “The Laughing Fish,” Caesar Romero, Mark Hamill and The Killing Joke. Heath Ledger’s Joker is THE definitive Joker.

Besides I love the way he said the line, "Starting tonight people will die... I'm a man of my word. [Insert Awesome Crazy Joker Laugh Here])

I can't wait for this one.
Though Jake made the greatest Joker of all time, the new guy looks good. He has the laugh down, which is a good sign

I'm really excited for this movie. I absolutely adored Christian Bale as Batman, although i do agree that Micheal Keaton was by far the best Batman so far. Jack made a great Jack Nicholson, but i think it will be interesting to see how Heath Ledgers fares in comparison. I mean this is suppose to be the beginning of The Joker. I love how The joker's face is all distorted and his face make up looks like he just got hot and heavy and smeared his lipstick all over the place.

How does everyone thing Maggie Gyllenhaal will do as the love interest?

The 5-7 minute trailer is not a trailer btw. It is a Prologue of the movie, that concentrates on the Joker. It will be shown on the IMAX showing of "I am Legend". "I am Legend" is coming out this friday, and Im gonna watch it, just cause I wanna see this Prologue.

* "Heath's Joker is like none we've seen before, but it's also very true to the iconography of this character," Nolan said. "His work is very compelling, and it's not easy to describe what Heath has accomplished with it . . . we don't know much about the Joker's past. He is more interesting in the present, I think . . . he's relentless, he tears through the movie like the shark in JAWS"

"I can't wait for people to see what Heath has done with this character, and this opening sequence, which is intended to stand on its own as a mini-movie, gives people a taste of that."

Wow, I'm so pumped for that movie.

The official trailer will be released monday I think, but a very low quality one was leaked and God, Heath Ledger is so scary.

Here are some official posters :

ps : I laugh at the people who acted like dramaqueens when Heath was announced as the joker.

Both the Prologue and the new trailer are badass. Saw them both on the theater and there's a scene where the camera focuses on Joker's face, and you got an 80-foot IMAX screen Joker looking at you and saying "I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you... stranger."

I. Got. Chills.

This movie looks sweet, I can't wait to see it. Jack Nicholson was good, but Heath Ledger looks like he can do a pretty good job, as well.

I have to wonder, though, are they doing the Penguin next? :p

WatanukiXXX
12-19-2007, 11:44 AM
@Tomodachi69

They're gonna show Harvey Dent in this film turn into Two-Face. The next film will likely be : Batman vs Joker vs Two-Face

Also Nicholson Joker despite it being very close to Jack Nicholson himself, was perfect for the 1989 Batman film. Other than being chubby that is:D

The Heath Joker is gonna be perfect for The Dark Knight. We don't see the former teen heart throb from 'Ten things I hate about You' or 'A Knights Tale'.

We see the Joker on screen :yell

Now that I've seen the official trailer, I really like Heath Ledger as the Joker (I was one of those "doubters" before). His voice in particular is really suiting - it gave me chills.

This movie is going to kick so much ass.

Yes, definitely a movie I'm interested in watching. I don't care if I don't watch any other movie this summer, I just have to watch this one. I was a big fan of Batman Begins, so... yeah. I wasn't too thrilled when I first saw the trailer, but Heath Ledger's demented raspy laugh just grew on me.

hype has been increased exponentially this week. the US morning shows (NBC, CBS, ABC for those who are familiar with US network) are doing a series of interviews with the cast. mostly talking about ledger's performance and how he could win an oscar, even the greats michael caine and morgan freeman said so!

Oh. My. DAMN.

That's gotta be the best movie I have ever seen in my life. I went in with such high expectations because of all the hype... and it was all that and more.

It's a movie that just keeps on giving from beginning to end. Never a dull moment. I watched at 3am and not once did I yawn or looked at my watch. I just wanted it to keep going on forever. Speaking of going at 3am, the whole place was packed! The line to go in extended all the way to the second floor. And after we got out, a whole new line to see the 6am show was waiting.

Damn, Nolan created a masterpiece. It's f*cking awesome! ><

Kuchiki: I am glad you agree, because I think it's want made the movie. Joker was finally portrayed the way he was suppose to be. A straight our crazy psychotic dude. I literally found my hand shaking at one point. It was amazing. Lol and the hospital scene you guys mentioned earlier... was sorta funny >_< I liked when he smacked the remote. But anyway like the whole opening bank scene. So joker like. I think that's why it was predictable in some ways, because if you know the joker, you know he is the most sadistic Mofo in the world. That is why he is such a great Villain, dare I say the best villain. I think he stole the show. I love what he does to Batman. He makes you question people's nature and it's wonderful.

Seriously, I have to say that that was the most enjoyable movie I've ever seen, I think. I was so into the movie and it just built in excitement every moment, every scene! So much tension, and of course, so much awesome, psychotic, CRAZINESS from The Joker.

I heartily mourn Ledger's death ever more after the movie, as his presentation of Joker's character was damn amazing. It's a shame there won't be more of him. He very well stole the movie, though all the other performances were very good, too :]

definitely the best movie this year (b4 this i iron man topped my list). it's so amazing that the director managed to make another movie that is better than batman begin. all casts did really well, and it was obvious that the audience wanted more of the joker, really really psychotic performance, and i love it. also, the philosophy held by each characters were so strong that u'll end up rooting for none to lose the fight. plus, lots of emotional scenes involved simply making this movie as one that covers most of the audience's interest.

and the bat tank with the built-in bike :love

Just saw movie I still say jack nickleson(or how ever his name is spelt) is best joker never will change. But any who great movie 5 out of 5 I want to see it again. Two face seemed like they did a bit venom on him it made me say in theater who does he think he is venom(though he did do allot more then venom). But the way they did his burns was great I would have liked to see him main villain through hole movie or his own movie(still do not think he is dead and that it was a fake funeral). But over all great movie the joker was great and they got him perfect I mean the first opening parts was just like joker kill men then take money for self and that pen part was :rotflmao

I went to go see it this morning before work and the whole theatre exploded in laughter and applause when the Joker did his pencil "trick".

Believe the hype. Live the Hype. Be the hype.

Hot sh!t this movie was epic. Even though its supposed to be about the Batman, it felt like the Joker totally stole the show from the very beginning. I looked forward to seeing the Joker in all his scenes. Heath Ledger truly played the character well. All the emotion and enthusiasm he put into the part totally captivated me as I watched. I mean hell his laugh sent chills down my spine. When the Joker said "Why so serious" the whole audience exploded and was like "OH SH!T" XD

Throughout the whole movie I was on the edge of my seat. It felt like riding a roller coaster with all the turns and twists that kept me excited every moment. Definitely the best movie of the summer, and quite possibly the year. Seeing it on IMAX was awesome as well with the surround sound and quality screen. The experience was just dazzling and I left the theater completely satisfied.

I saw it with my friends on Friday night, and I saw it again today with my parents. Normally I'd refuse, but this movie is definitely something you should see twice plus they payed for my ticket, popcorn, and drink so who was I to refuse? XD

Its amazing even the second time around. Even in a regular theater it was great and nothing was taken away from the movie. Must buy when comes out on DVD!

I LOVED IT!! Oh GOD I don't think there will ever be another movie as great as this one in a million years! Heath was so sadistic in this one, so insane. In fact if you have never heard of Heath Ledger, unless you read theend credits you will never guess in a million years that the Joker wasn't a real person! Heath killed the Joker and made him better!! Christian Bale was awesome too this time around. My favorite part was the beginning of the movie when Joker disguised himself as one of his own henchmen, killed them all and ran off in a School bus with the money. Fucking EPIC SHIT! Two face was good too, they developed his character so in a way that you just had to feel bad for him. This Movie kicked Iron Man's ass by a mile!

This film was an amazing experience for me. I was hyped the minute I saw the first Comic Con footage. I followed the film very closely as news after news began to appear. Now the the film is finally out I feel complete.

This movie blew me away, it was not only a comic film, but a crime drama. It is up there with the Godfather as a great film and sequel.

Saw this movie today - I was expecting something good after Batman Begins, but this movie seriously exceded expectations.

The random bits of humor (The potato peeler was TOO hilarious) - The in-character references. Everything

Heath Ledger did an amazing work as the Joker. Seriously, he heads the movie by much.

Also, a nurse outfit DOES look sexy on anyone:fu

The movie was great =) loved the Hedger's performance as the joker. He was amazing D=

I was in the movies and I could see it if I just waited 1 hour so I went for it. Midnight premiere for the win. :zomg

Amazing movie! Better than I thought it would be. Great plot twist, Ledger played an amazing joker, and a very unexpected death! I'd watch it again. :fu

I was laughing so hard at that!! :lmao XDD. I saw quite a bit of comedy movies this summer (like 2-3 perhaps? more?) and THIS beats them all in terms of funny :D

Heath was not the best part of this film. Arron Eckhart was the selling point of this film for me, he had the most interesting character in the film and he made you fall in love with him to the very end.

Just watched it for the second time, and I must say, I enjoyed it much more the second time.... I didn't quite get everything on the first outing. I dunno, but I just don't see the ZOMGawesome movie that you guys are saying.

Don't get me wrong, it's undoutedly a very good movie. Heath Ledger's Joker pretty much sold the movie. (His magic trick alone is worth the price of admission, seriously. :uhuh) But it's also too long, and the turning of Harvey Dent deserves an entire movie, not ignominously sidelined into a sub-plot. The capture-Lau-from-Hong-Kong part was superfluous, and a little boring. Why can't we have more Joker in place of that? And the grim, gritty atmosphere that made Gotham almost a character of its own in Batman Begins is mostly absent here. Instead, Gotham is now some generic city. It's not so much of a problem, of course, but the first movie set the bar so high.....

Maggie Gyllenhall is excellent as Rachel, whenever I think of Rachel Dawes now, it will always be her, not Katie Holmes. But I feel that Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman are underused. Although many of you may disagree with me, IMO Christian Bale, like Michael Keaton before him, sorta fades into the background when the Joker comes on. A more different villain than Ra's Al Ghul is difficult to imagine-- the ruthless altruist and the anarchist-- but the Joker makes the movie. Heath Ledger's Joker is right up there with Hannibal Lector and Orochimaru when it comes to screen villains.

All in all, it's a good movie, but it sorta leaves things hanging, so the final verdict will have to wait for Batman III.

EDIT: Yay, post #100. :uhuh

Cornflakes:
*The whole point and purpose of Harvey Dent's fall is centered around the Joker....He was his ace in the hole...His one proof that everyone can be corrupted....Giving him his own movie would only dilute that aspect. Batman movies have usually have more than one villain anyway.
*Of course the Hong Kong part was a bit superfluous, but it also showed the lengths the Batman will go to...It's important in the big picture
*The movie was more about the characters than the city...The first film put you in the world, hence the direct attention to the substance of the city....If you already think the movie is too long, I'm curious as to how you'd add more in :p
*Of course Batman fades compared to the Joker...It's always like that. When stories or episodes or movies feature the joker, the Joker is a main focus. Of course Batman is there, Batman is the namesake and the hero, but the villain, the Joker defines his actions for however long or short he appears...In the Dark Knight Returns, of course it was a Batman comic, but when the Joker escaped, fought Batman and snapped his own neck laughing to finger Batman for murder, it was arguably the greatest example of the motif. The Joker gets the last laugh.
*Really? Orochimaru? Couldn't choose Millions Knives or Shinobu Sensui? ah well :p

I'll agree with that..... though I still maintain that it wasn't done as well as it could. For me Dent listening to the guy who kills his fiance just like that stretches creduelity a bit.

*Of course the Hong Kong part was a bit superfluous, but it also showed the lengths the Batman will go to...It's important in the big picture
By 'superfluous' I kinda meant that it was unneccesary.... :p

Eh? Atmosphere and tone don't usually require extra time to set up. Immersion in a world isn't something that you can do once and then leave it be. That's like saying that Two Towers and Return of the King didn't need to be set in Middle-Earth anymore because Fellowship of the Ring had already put us in that world. :uhuh

Also, I'm sorry for not making myself more clear when I said the movie was too long.... :( What I meant was that some bits (i.e. the Hong Kong sequence) dragged and could have been cut without detriment to the movie.

My point is that even if a villain gets top billing, the opposing protagonist shouldn't make no impression at all. For example, in Silence of the Lambs Anthony Hopkin's Hannibal Lector was undoubtedly the star, and the scenes with him in it defined the film, but Jodie Foster's Clarice held her own in terms of screen presence. Even with Batman Begins, Liam Neeson's Ra's Al Ghul was bloody amazing, but Bale's Batman didn't feel as though he was just orbiting around the villain's star.

*Really? Orochimaru? Couldn't choose Millions Knives or Shinobu Sensui? ah well :p

The Joker redirected his blind anger and exploited the fracture of his mind. It's like when the lawyers of violent criminals direct the public's anger towards the establishment that set the offender free.
"The cops have plans the mob has plans, you know what I am Harvey? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do if I actually caught one. I just do things"
The Joker is the tool, someone else was pulling the trigger. And that's what he convinced Dent of.

By 'superfluous' I kinda meant that it was unneccesary.... :p
Yeah I know what you meant. What I'm saying is that while it could have been cut, it doesn't really hurt the film and it does add something however small to the plot

In batman Begins, Gotham was shown as a gritty city, Batman worked at night, the mob hung out in dark seedy alleys....But that's not what this film focused on....You were still in Gotham, but making it look like the first film would require setting scenes at night where they wouldn't make sense, setting scenes in alleys where they wouldn't make sense, or adding thugs just to show the underbelly. The gangsters held their meetings in broad daylight because they were afraid of the dark. The Batman hunts at night. Gotham isn't just a place, it's a state of mind. The criminals are the city and they set the mood for just what kind of place Gotham city is just as importantly as the dark gritty alley scenes do

Also, I'm sorry for not making myself more clear when I said the movie was too long.... :( What I meant was that some bits (i.e. the Hong Kong sequence) dragged and could have been cut without detriment to the movie.

I still don't see how it dragged....It was damn cool...

This isn't just a villain, this is The Joker. Usually when you think back, you dont even remember Batman when the Joker is with him, you remember the Joker. That's just how it is. He's a show stealer, if he's not, you're not doing it right...

It's a bit of a departure but the art serves to set the mood and tone for the story. Though it would be worth picking up if it were drawn with crayon honestly.....

I guess you've convinced me too, lol.

Yeah I know what you meant. What I'm saying is that while it could have been cut, it doesn't really hurt the film and it does add something however small to the plot
Here we disagree, I guess. IMO pacing is just as important in a movie as any other element PotC III's last third, for example, was actually pretty good, but all that unneccesary, convulted padding in the first 100 minutes made me switch off by the times the good bits arrived. I simply didn't care anymore. It's nowhere as bad in TDK, but then again it's a far better movie, so even a twenty-minute digression hurts.

Also, as I pointed out, instead of this why couldn't we have had more Joker, or Dent, or Alfred, or Lucius-- or even Coleman Reese for that matter, he felt like he could have had an interesting subplot. It just seems that there were many potentially interesting subplots that weren't given enough (or any) time.

IMO you don't have to set it at night for something to be gritty. Consider the segment in Batman Begins depicting Joe Chill's trial and its aftermath (Rachel showing Bruce the slums), or Bruce's flashback to his parents' trip to the musical thing. It gave the impression of a grimy, impoverrished city. In TDK the streets are clean-like, and feels more like a city Spiderman resides in. Why, since Gotham is supposed to be even more in the dumps than in the first movie?

I disagree, I again cite the example of Hannibal Lector and Clarice Starling. An utterly compelling villain does not equate invisible co-stars.

I couldn't have enjoyed a movie more than this one, stupendously done. Heath Ledger was a marvelous Joker, he is my all time favorite actor who's played a villain. :XD

Every second of the two and a half hours had me wanting more and more, and seeing it a second and third time, really gave me the opportunity to soak it all in, and truly appreciate this movie. It was more like a work of art in the form of a movie, more than it was a comic book superhero movie. It was most definitely not something you get to see very often, and I was glad that It's expectations and hype were both answered, and then furthered beyond what anyone could imagine!

Its Still awesome after 3 times Heath Ledgers performance is legendary i am not sure if it can be reproduced i also d not no if they will be able to top this in the next movie if they have one, The Joker i doubt will return, and as far as we know two face is dead so, as far as batman villains there are slim pickings maybe two face survived, but as far as batman villains go there is none that are as awesome as the Joker and Two Face, Most likely the Riddler Black Mask Maybe, i truly don't see the penguin as a threatening villain or Dr Freeze or Cat Woman or Poison Ivy well this movie was spectacular

I finally saw it yesterday for the first time after two weekends of going and having it sold out. I would only be happy to watch it on IMAX.
The whole movie was amazing!! The plot, message, and characters were awesome especially the Joker. It was so beautiful and awesome I was on the verge of tears. Then when it was over I went in to watch it again. That has definitly been the best movie I've seen all summer.

Oooh you saw it at IMAX as well:pme too:p. I saw it on Monday after it was released on the Thursday I think. My friend saw it at IMAX a few days before and said it was sold out and sure enough it was sold out when we went.

There was no other character, not even Batman which captured your attention like The Joker did. Heath Ledger was just freaky and kept you feeling always on the edge with his intense performance.

You forgot Liam Neeson's Ra's Al Ghul, every other Batman villain (or any villain of any superhero series, for that matter) is leagues below these two IMO.

It's really really a pity Heath Ledger is dead, it looked as though the Joker was set for an encore at the end of The Dark Knight. :( Also, Ledger would probably have had a career and fanbase to rival Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp...

I simply cannot agree with you more. Ledger delivered a performance that rivals some of the greatest acting performances of all time and if it doesn't take actor of the year (not to mention alot of others) when the awards come around then everybody who has seen this movie will band together and in unison scream out "YOU ARE NOW AND FOREVER MORE WRONG!"
