Also... Is that Renji entry within the allowed size of 500x250pixels? Because it looks awfully bigger than those dimensions to me. Oo;; If it surpasses that maximum allowed size, please make it smaller before the contest ends, or risk disqualification.

Oh yes, I forgot, we need to bring up this point of incentives, so, as a mod, I'm asking, what would you guys want for winning a SOTW. Doesn't have to be very big cus we're doing this every week, but something nice that would encourage people to come up and participate.

On top of that they're not even using the proper format. If babbo's not mistaken (which he isn't, babbo's read the rules three times now) you're supposed to say how many points you're giving them, not what rank. On the basis of the numbers used babbo could be getting 3 points from hemagoku and fire candy ;D

To be honest, to a certain degree babbo doesn't really care one way or another how it affects this sotw; it just annoys babbo that people can be so incredibly lazy. It's an insult to the work that the contestants put into their piece if you just lazily list off a ranking. Feed back also gives them a chance to see how they might want to consider improving their next entry and ensures that it isn't just a popularity contest (not saying it is here, but babbo's seen it in other forums). Uniform voting procedures also ensure that there are no misunderstandings as well. Putting up a template for voting might be something to consider <.<

Since the SOTW was Fate's idea, but she's been AWOL for quiet a time now, why don't you people talk with Spacecat and agree to take over while Fate is missing?

However, I think that Fate should be the Head Officer, like her word has dominion over the temporary head's - As such, she gets some privileges since it was her idea, and the SOTW remains active for you people to enjoy

Just a suggestion, so that SOTW doesn't die (At least for now)

Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Toiletman etc- your typical marvel Heroe - But right as Hema said; you can make it a soldier, a firefighter, it could even be your dad!! -

Heroes are there to save you - Take that anyway you want

What won't be accepted will be:

Obvious villains (Say, Aizen, Szayel, Voldemort, Lex Luthor, etc)
Ambiguous anti-heroes (Like "Reformed" Venom, or anyone who's alliance is dubious)

A shame, but rules are rules (And I've been rather flexible with him .)

GOTW (Graphic of the week) - Instead of limiting yourselves to signatures, you are free to make a GFX that does not exceed the signature limits. Make it a movie, a fanart, etc- The voting process and everything else should remain the same, as it's easy and practical way to determine the winners -

its possible just as poiison said but also refering to what poiison said sum sig maker might get mad his sig lost 2 a drawing or something

Personally I get all my little tips and tricks and tutorials off of livejournal communities.
There are really nice tutorials and such out there.
And if you combine a couple the outcome is lovely.

I'm more simplistic and minimalistic in my signatures. :lmao

Sometimes, it gets inspired by an entry --- Per example, Hemagoku did a sig with a spiral in it, that's where "Twisted" came in :)--- So, if the topic "Clowns" appears, blame it on Fazal-Sama and his Twisted Metal entry (Hint, hint)


Other times, I pick inspiration from other sources, this time it was the RPG section of BA (http://www.bleachasylum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=42) and my history in it -)

I use photoshop and paint. My skills are mediocre at best, that's why you usually see credits in my sigs and other stuff .p

Let's just say I'm a frustrated artist with good ideas and lack of talent -_-

I'd like to think that the meaning behind the SOTW competition is to test everyone's growing skills. Sure, it can be frustrating to lose every time, but if you overall stop participating, you'll never win :) - Take Hemagoku as an example. The guy has participated in every single SOTW and has actually won only one of them. Check the Hall of Fame and see that I do not lie -

Most participants improve significantly every week, and the theme chosen is a challenge that is intended to be test your skills. to tell the truth, i'm a real noob with ps. only know how to use the basic tricks in the filter option XP and experimented with some brushes and smudge effects, which usually failed. hopefully i can improve tru this SOTW.

Simple is often best. In this case for instance you over complicated things with the bevel and emboss (it rarely looks good btw). Like babbo said, it's all very fixable there. At the very least you should get rid of the b&e though <.<

Babbo didn't even bother with that cause he's lazy, just did it by hand this time round. Though a tablet does make that a bit easier >.>

Check out GIMP (just google it) if you're tired of paint, it's free. PS elements (you really don't need cs3 for making sigs, unless you want the pen (vectoring) tool) is another relatively cheap (it depends on where you look) alternative as well.

oo, your tips are really needed Saint. i cant seem to make a border/frame for my siggy. and also dunno how to make the render to have that transparent effect (i know it shd be easy, but i often ended up stuck with ps help). and i am clueless on how to make my brushes to have custom color, they often appeared in grey shades..>.> i'll give DA a visit(s) too.

and i've tried Gimp, really nice and easier to use. but i found PS effects are more appealing to me ^^. i shd post an entry using Gimp one day~

what border?
if you're just lookin for a regular border, then just select the area of your canvas then use the stroke function its that simple.
the transparent effect thing? just save your images in .png format
and the grey shade thing, the colour palate is on the left side of the screen by default, so you can select from there ;)

It doesn't matter what the voter's intentions are, it's just not how a system of competition works when there's such a small pool of voters and single vote can change things significantly <.<

Take sotw #13. Poison's vote changed things from a point where one vote could have made a tie to a situation with marie a near impossibility of win for marie. Additionally there's the simple fact that seeing something voted for can affect how a person votes for something. Seeing poison voted for that fourth time in a row may have very well affected how people voted.

Another thing that babbo thinks needs to be reemphasized is the importance of the theme. People shouldn't be voting just on a cool factor, the theme is there to challenge entrants to fit their piece recognizably within the context of the restraints created by the theme. If it doesn't fit the theme very well then votes should consider lowering the points they award.

On another topic. I don't see a lot of recognition for the winners outside of this section of the board.

It'd be nice to have little 16x16 "show ribbons" with the week # they won. That they can display in their sig. That way the winners get a little recognition and the contest gets some innocent publicity.

In any case babbo would also suggest you turn down the opacity on the stroke on the text a bit too. A little touch up with the dodge and burn tool to can add depth and warmth too. It takes a matter of minutes to do stuff like that too >.>

Sorry for being a little overbearing. It just annoys babbo to see perfectly good works hurt by little entirely fixable things like that. especially when in cases like this it's most likely because they just went a little too far with things and had already had things nigh on perfect at one point already <.<

i like that pale green one of fazal. it could have some accents here and there to make the main pic stand out, but too much of contrast and colour burn kill the sweetness (innocence?) of the sig (so far youd get some points from me fazal-sama :p)

See what I'm getting at? You can still do a lot with a flattened image with those adjustment layers and do a lot to isolate certain areas within the adjustment layer to highlight and deemphasize areas of the image.

Also using the ALs keeps the final PSD rather small since it's not storing pixel information as it is with a regular layer.

There's a lot you can do with that line to incorporate plants. I have a couple of ideas right now percolating in my head. Like the word "lies" being overgrown with weeds or ivy and then you can incorporate the lyrics to explain it. Or just one generic vector of a plan and one of the leaves is shaped like the word "lies."

There's a lot of room wiggle room.

It's just weird that babbo sees sigs come out faded like that so often though. It's like people get so caught up in the act of making something that they things like how their sig practically looks like it's a mass of various grays. That's one big reason why babbo likes to get away from whatever he's working on at least once, not matter if it's something quick and simple like a sig or a term project. Coming back to something after a bit of time away just gives who a whole new perspective on your work.

Poiison: That's indeed a twisted way to interpretate this weeks theme - But as Chbimun said, there are lots of ways to adapt your idea and the theme. You wanted to give it a metaphorical focus? Then an overgrown ivy entangling a couple hugging with sad faces. With that very same legend you've just used, you get a bittersweet signature - The lies that bind them together are also slowly, but surely, tearing them apart.


Give it a try, and in the worst of cases, you'll only get a one liner PM -
