View Full Version : Captain Interviews!

Gathered in front of the man was every single member of the gotei 13, all 3,200 of them.

The long, boring speach was being made by one of the members of center 46, explaining everything.

The death of the previous Sou Taicho.

The intervention by Center 46, changing the rules on how the next Sou Taicho is decided.

The outrageous promotion of a prodigy to the top commanding spot, caused by political bargaining...

Finally, the speech was over, and any shinigami that wished to have a question was allowed.

The young man stood up, and looked out for the first one bold enough to ask.

Zaraki Kenpachi Unseated member of the 11th protection squad stood up and spoke

"so how the hell is the Captain decided then? do we play rock paper siccors hehehe?"

"thats funny ken-chan" giggled the pink haired girl on his sholder

"i know i just made it up"- replied kenpachi

"Funny you should mention it..." the soutaicho responded.

"There is, unfortunately, 3 empty captain positions that need to be filled as soon as possible. The 11th, 12th, and 13th divisions are all captain-less at the moment. The 11th is the combat squad, and will only be given to someone who the entire division can follow into battle without question. The 12th requires a keen mind and powerful intellect. The 13th requires a well rounded individual, for those who do not specialize in any particular area."

"Unlike previous captains, bankai is not a requirement, though it will definately increase, if not guarantee a spot if you have it. I will hold interviews over the next few weeks, and decide before the New Year."

ZarakiKenpachi
12-03-2007, 12:57 PM
"so say that someone like............me wanted to be captain of 11th division
would that work?" Asked Kenpachi with a grin

The new Soutaicho looked down (from his pedestal of course, as Zaraki was quite large) at the man.

"Well then, you get to fight me. If I think you're captain level, then you can be a captain. I regret to inform you, however, that if you do not impress me..."

There was a pause.

"I will kill you."

Murmers ran through the crowd, and a few nobles nearly choked.

"The 11th squad captain position is no laughing matter. I would only advise a shinigami to attempt the spot if he is confident in his ability to beat anyone. His combat skills must be second to *none*. Being forgiving of overestimation would only give others undue confidence, and they would not worry as much in the fight. No, just like on the battlefield, you give it your all, or you die."

(OOC: the "fight" will be text based, not stat based. This means that I would post some fighting, then you would post some fighting, etc. basically, this is to gauge your combat mind. If you can figure out interesting battle tactics that catch me off guard, I'll give you the spot. But like I said, don't try this unless you're sure)

ZarakiKenpachi
12-06-2007, 01:03 PM
Zaraki Kenpachi grins at the mans words

"you will kill me? HAHAHA thats funny. I cant die, if i die i wont be able to fight anymore and that would be problematic"

"I accept your challange" Roared kenpachi drawing his sword and releasing some of his pent up spirit pressure "YOU WILL NOT SURVIVE!"

Before Kenpachi could strike, a dozen or so highly skilled guards rushed up in front of the SouTaicho.

He waved his hand, to order them *not* to kill Kenpachi.

"Fighting is not what this meeting is about. If you wish to try and claim the prize of 11th captain, you must wait until I am holding interviews (there will be a thread specifically for becoming captains). I admire your enthusiasm, though."

With that, he turned back to the crowd.

"Any more questions?

Keiji rushed in, hopefully unnoticed, just in time to witness the past few events.

Wait a second hold on...when did the captain all of a sudden disappear...

He spoke out, "Excuse me, but I would like to know exactly what has become of these three captains, if it wouldn't trouble you so to answer."

Primera Espada
12-07-2007, 09:35 AM
There was some murmerings from some of the nobles, and with a hand, the Soutaicho silenced them.

"Very few of you allready know this, but the 11th division captain... is dead."

A score of remarks came up from the crowd.

"He was struck down by a vastarode during a covert operation to Hueco Mundo. He was accompanying the 12th division captain, acting as his guard. The 12th division captain sent a messanger back to us, instructing us to fill his position, this is likely due to his expectation of imminent death. The rest of the information pertaining to that situation is classified, however."

This was certainly causing quite a stir among the crowd, and so something had to be done.

"The 11th division captain died with honor, in battle, the only way an 11th division captain SHOULD die. As for the 12th, he may not even be dead, but he clearly can not return to us any time soon. I suggest you all accept this loss, mourn the dead, hope for the living, and move on. For, if there exists an enemy strong enough to kill the leader of our combat squad, that is a sure sign that we all must increase our strength, to be able to defeat such an opponent."

This brought the commander in chief to the next piece of business.

"The 13th division captain, being one of our oldest captains, and who's health has been failing for quite some time, is choosing to retire, so he can avoid death on the battlefield, and be here to help train his replacement."

Keiji moved back at the new soutaicho's response, as if he were struck with a hammer, of the you know, life changing never expected that to happen variety. The captain has gone missing...but how...why... Indeed this news came as a shock to him, it was only earlier that he greeted his captain in the usual manner he always did...and now...now he was gone. Still it was a bit troubling, he wondered exactly what his now former captain was doing in Hueco Mundo in the first place.

He clenched his fist at his side...he would avenge his captain one way or another. But for now, he needed to find out as much as he could about the current situation. He addressed the soutaicho once more, "I see...that is unfortunate. But how exactly are we supposed to fill in for three captains and acquire to defeat such an enemy in the time given to us? Surely this enemy of ours will not wait long enough for something like that occur?"

As zaraki was being restrained he overheard what had happend to the other captians

"ha if they were so easly defeated then they can hardly call themselfes captains
can they?

Primera Espada

a dark tone was taken around Kenpachi....

To say such a disrespectful thing...

Kenjuro narrowed his eyes at him.

"It appears, sir, that you are *far* from ready to be a captain. With an attitude like that, you could barely command a single child, let alone 200 free thinking adults!"

The attention was turned back to questions.

"As for the other question, we will impliment... a rigorous training session to bring the new captains up to speed as quickly as possible. Please note, our enemy, though strong, was not invading us. He saw us as the invaders. For that reason, we do not have to life in fear of such a powerful entity invading soul society."

ZarakiKenpachi
12-08-2007, 06:08 AM
Kenpachi was ticked off by the mans responce

"oy you! you took what i said wrong! i ment that captians are the ideal warriors they are the best of the best, and for one to fall in combat is a huge blow to the squads moral, so much so that its better for them to fall with as few comrads around as possible so that there out of the way and captians can still retain there god like apperance to other shinigami"

I think i'm ready for this...A captain. Wow.

That's would be a pretty big step up i guess. Too big really. I'm not captain-class yet. Although if they want someone right now, I think i'll be aliright -

What the - ? just 11th, 12th and 13th? Great, my chance to become a captain earlier than i should, of course it'll just be one of those spots.

1th squad - Wasn't my thing exactly...Plus that zaraki guy is made for the position.

12th squad...hell no...they won't let me in.

13th is alright i guess...i don't really believe in bad luck but...

Well either way, 13th is the only one i can try out for so lets go.

"My name is Nakamura Kaito. I would like to apply for a captain position. 13th squad specfically. I sure i'm a good enough candidate. What do i need to do?"

After a swift checkup, Lexi and Lune entered the mass of people crowding around the Soutaicho and easily blended in with the crowd. The little bit of speech she had heard, however, had already hit her like a brick wall.

Taicho? Missing? In Hueco Mundo? ... The 11th Captain too, huh? They were supposed to have investigated the vastoorode in the living world, but ... I still remember how he managed to protect us ... even though he was hardly able to stand ... shit ...

Lexi had never gotten to know the new captain particularly well; she'd still been moping over Felix then. Still, that instance stood out like a light in the midst of total blackness. She looked up at the platform where the captains and vice-captains were situated. Keiji was speaking, no doubt he'd be interested. She remembered when he was ranked below even herself ... and now he was the strongest in the division.

Time just flies like that, I suppose. No way to stop it ... the deaths, the carnage, the sorrow ...

But when did they go to Hueco Mundo? It couldn't have been at the same time as our fun little trip, could it? I mean ... my reiatsu practically started a civil war over there. We couldn't have been that far off ... maybe we even could've saved them ...

No ... fuck it, Lexi, don't think those kinds of thoughts. My only recourse ... is to get stronger ... strong enough to protect. Maybe strong enough to become a captain myself.

She looked around at the masses ... apparently, only three others were openly showing desires to becoming captain. Two of them were of no threat whatsoever ... one of them was being restrained and had already practically been rejected outright, and both had reiatsu levels comparable to that of a mosquito.

Keiji, on the other hand ... there was no doubt that both of them were after the same division, and that in a fight, Keiji would easily best her. Luckily enough for her, 12th Division emphasized the mind over strength. She figured she'd better start redoubling her training, however, so as to at least be a worthy adversary for the job. Besides, acting as vice-captain under Keiji wouldn't be too bad either, she supposed.

Heh, won't this be fun.

Her gaze returned to Keiji, as he had just asked the question she had been most curious about.

Shuga was sitting next to Kim against one of the walls. They were in the midst of various other shinigami from the 3rd who had congregated near their captain. Kim didn't seem particularly interested in proceedings. She had became slightly interested when Kenpachi stepped forward to fight with the Soutaichou, but the moment he was restrained coincided with her attention leaving the premisis. For now, she lay, slumped against the wall, eating a rice cake she had snuck in.

Shuga, following his teammate's bad example, was also slumped against the wall, but he was slightly more attentive to proceedings.

Captains, killed in Heuco Mundo? That should be where the Hollows come from. What business do shinigami have there? ....

Kim sighed loudly when the Soutaicho mentioned that training efforts would have to be increased.

"Damn, that means our crazy captain is probably going to increase our already ridiculous training regime", she muttered with her mouth full of rice, clearly upset.

Shuga looked around at the crowd of shinigami who were clearly distressed at the shocking news that was being openly related. Looking at Kim, he became amused.

There's some major bombshells being dropped, and she's more upset about increased training...

Indeed, the news did seem very distressing, or atleast it should be, but with this disinterested person sitting next to him, Shuga found himself oddly calm about it. The confidence in the voice of the soutaicho was equally reassuring.

The big cheese seems to have things under control...

I guess word does spread fast...

Kai had noticed alot more people than he expected had showed up to apply for captain positions.

He wasn't sure about the deatils as to why the previous captains were not around anymore, but there was alot of speculation among the murmurings he picked up.

With all these new potential candidates, it's even less likely I'll get this postition now...ha. In a way now i want it even more.

Kai looked around him at his new rivals. All of them seemeed pretty powerful - somemore than others of course. Some more than him. Though the three positions would not be given out based on strength alone.

He felt he had the confidence to occupy one of these captain positions.

All you guys are just obstacles i gotta overcome i guess. This is just another opportunity to get stronger.

...i wish things would actually move along though...

In a way, 'too' many guys are showing up. The sooner things get started, the better.

*sigh*

Guess all i can do is wait...

Altair watched in silance on a nearby rooftop.
He had no real reason to be here.
There was no target to kill. Just the man known as Kenpachi of Zaraki.
He didn't recognize the man who had pissed Zaraki off.
It mattered not, anyway. This would be an interesting fight.
Though, Altair was never impressed by brute force. Anyone can kill their opponant with Brute Force.
It was boring.
It takes much more effort to Kill someone withought them knowing.
That was the fun way.
Not that Altair didn't think that fighting face-to-face wasn't Honorable, of course.
"This is starting to draw an interesting crowd..." He finally said.
He noticed two from 3rd Squad.
"May as well meet them..." He sighed.
He Shunpo'd behind Shuga and lowered his hood to show he came in peace.

Shuga let out a yawn as the proceedings continued. He was surprised when he opened his eyes to see a strange hooded shinigami standing over him. Shuga was at a loss for what to say. He turned to Kim who seemed to have fallen asleep while still chewing her rice cake.

Surely a feat that only she can achieve...

He looked up at the shinigami who seemed to be observing Kenpachi.

"You're thinking of challenging the soutaicho to?" Shuga asked, his interest slightly perked by the odd injury to the shinigami's hand.

This isn't what i had expected...this wait is too long.

Or are they gonna chose the captains based on the levels of patience you have, jeez.

Whoah...guess all that waiting got to some people. That guy's goin' crazy, the guards can't even hold him down.

hmm...That guy is pretty strong i too guess, hope i don't actually have to fight him...but he doesn't seem all that bright either.

This is actually getting a bit annoyin'...if nothin happens soon, I may just leave. Ididn't wanna be a captain that much. I thought it may have just helped me progressed more, having the rank. Atleast temporarily.

He greeted the guards, "I'm here about a captain interview, may I pass?"

"It's not that I question your judgment or anything like that but...are you really sure about just giving me the position no questions asked? Not that I don't believe in my own capability either, I believe I can take on the job...just are you 100% sure about this?"

"Well now, you didn't flat out fail the first test. That's a good sign. You didn't pass with flying colors though. You were right to be suspicious. No matter what, you need to remember information given to you, and be weary of anything that doesn't go the way you predict."

"Next part of the test..."

"You are in Hueco Mundo. You are surrounded by Menos Grande. A few Adjuucas even. You are alone. What do you do?"

Mystic Serenade
12-25-2007, 07:11 AM
"Ah well...for one I'm not sure what I'd be doing in Hueco Mundo alone in the first place. Even the previous 12th Division captain had the 11th come with him on a mission there and unfortunately that wasn't enough. Surely someone of my level would ideally never find himself alone at that place. But in the unlikely scenario that such an event occurred where my stronger comrades were somehow killed and I found myself alone, I guess the only way is to either try to outrun them or somehow deceive them into eating each other. Not great to have another stronger menos running around, but they haven't attacked us in years so it'd be a minor thing I suppose. Might even mess each other up so bad that all their growth gets stunted."

(I'm gonna go ahead and start Tari's interview, while waiting for Zaraki)

"The thirteenth" the Soutaicho repeated back to the shinigami. "That position requires unsurpassed strength of character. As the thirteenth captain, you will be often given the hard luck shinigami, those who need extra help learning to stand on their own. You will play father, brother, role model, and captain to them. The thirteenth is, by and large, the heart of the gotei 13. We will see if you are ready for that,"

"Question number one. There is a young, powerful shinigami which has just been put under your command. They are brash, confident in their own power, and likes to show off. They are also a strong believer that the strong, while better than the weak, are obligated to take on any task the weak cannot handle. On the battlefield, this often lends itself to the young shinigami ignoring your orders in order to make sure his weaker comrads' opponents are taken out first if he deems them too weak."

There was a pause, and the soutaicho looked him straight in the eye. "What is the problem, and how do you fix it?"

01-10-2008, 06:10 PM
Alright...

Well this guy is obviously gonna be my problem. So just kill the b******!

...Yeah sorry, that was a joke...

Damn...

Anyway...I think that main problem is that this guy obviously seems like he'd jump into the fire alone rather than relying on thers he deems weak. Personally, I would try to make sure everybody does train harder to eliminate his idea of them being weak the best they can. So if this one guys excels above others, just get everyone else to catch up. That's just one idea...

Perhaps another could be to just keep this guy on certain missions which he should only be handled by a particular level shinigami. Keeping him away from the ones he calls weak hopefully. so hee won't need to worry about protecting weak ones. Unles of course he's so arrogant that he can't accept anyone else being strong enough to not not need saving.

Infact, regardless of the options, I would initially give the guy a firm speech about his attitude. we're a team I and should act like it. Assisting eachother when appropriate, but allowing others to try their hand too. Everyone gets experience by being pushed. If he continues to take charge, then they will never become strong enough to defend themselves to begin with. Honeslty, if he couldn't grasp this simple concept then he could join another squad. There's no room for arrogance in a real team.

There's no 'I' in team right? but there will be foot up his ass if he can't see that.

Answering this question has made me look at the way i've been fighting and the way I've been thinking about things. Perhaps Im not ready to be a captain yet. Perhaps i should tell him. Although this guy is pretty scary. He'd probably kill me if i were to refuse the position...that is if i got it.

*sigh* I just gotta do whats right I suppose...I could be a captain eventually, maybe just not right now.

The response was interesting, entertaining, and honest if nothing else. It started off weak but built up to something respectable as he further explained things.

"Very well. Next question. Your life, your pride, your subordinates life, your subordinates pride, your superiors life, your superior's pride, list those in order of importance, and explain why."

tari101190

Well...i guess i would have to say:

-subordinates life
-my life
-superiors life
-subrdinates pride
-superiors pride
-my pride

Any one person's pride in general shouldn't matter too much. I would disregard my own pride under most circumstances. So that would just leave my superiors pride to worry about, although if they have a real superior attitude, they should think the same as I do not worrying about something as insignificant as their own pride when they have subordinates to guide.

My subordinates would be my responsibility, so when they fisrt start out atleast, i would be considerate. I would use similar reasoning for my subordinates life aswell. They are MY main responsibilty.

I know it may seem disrespectful, but i would place my life above my superiors. If they have the type of attitude i hope they do, then they would know their own life should be used to protect and teach those lower than themselves...

And Sir, once this interview is over, and before your final decision, I would like to state some newfound thoughts I've gained during this interview. I've looked at myself and realized some things...

"Hrm... I see. Interesting perspective on your particular ranking."

"What is the *most* important thing to fight for, as a captain?"

This would test his true character.

tari101190
01-11-2008, 09:37 PM
The most important thing 'eh? That one is pretty tough...

Well, so far i've been just honest, not trying to give the right answer exactly. So just be honest now maybe...

Alright...to be honest, i would have to say i do not currently know what the most important thing is to a captain above all else. In theory, the most important thing to each captain shouldn't be the same. All people are different. Everyone fghts for different things. Those who eventualy become as powerful as the captains have proven that they can push past their limits over and over to their peak. Someone of this level must have had some sort of drive enabling them to reach that power, but it is an individual drive.

I could easily list things like 'fighting to protect the weak', 'fighting for justice/what's right', 'fighting for soul society' etc...but that wouldn't be MY reason.

MY reason would be similar to the reason i became a shinigami in the first place...although now i'm begining to question that reason. My reason was to get stronger in order to protect the people close to me since i failed last time. Though, that doesn't seem like a good enough reason. It's as if i'm relying on revenge, and just basically negative thoughts, thinking i was a failure. If i want to get stronger then i should change my that initial driving reason.

So...perhaps im not cut out to actually be a captain as of yet, but I guarantee that I will be eventually, just not right now.

So once i have an accurate answer for the question "What is the *most* important thing to fight for, as a captain?", then maybe then i will be ready. For now I still have a long way to go.

...Sorry if i've wasted your time, although i think i gained alot from this experience.

The Soutaicho bowed respectfully.

"thank you for your answers. I will finish the interviews and announce the results publically."

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-06-2008, 05:03 AM
Kaoru adjusted his Shihakushou before slipping his Zanpakutou into his obi. He took one last long look at his appearance in the mirror before deeming himself decent. He then left his quarters in the Elevent Division and began to Shyunpou his way to the First Division.

Just recently, he'd been injured and admitted to the Fourth Division. Their Fukutaichou had been forced to save his life twice and in the end, he was left baring many stitches and marks. It had upset him at first but then he had made a realization. His appearance didn't matter as much. After all, gaining a position like Taichou based on one's superficial appearances was ludicrus.

There were more, far more important qualities that one needed to possess or gain in order to rise to the position of Taichou. With this realization set firmly in his mind, Kaoru lightly touched down out in front of the First Division. He slowly walked inside.

"Pardon me.", he called to the nearest Division member. "I have an appointment to see the Soutaichou. For an interview, actually. My name is Kaoru Miyazaki, Third Seat of the Eleventh Division."

Dizzy
11-06-2008, 06:25 AM
The shinigami perks up at the sudden visit, nodding at the other man. "Right you are," he says brightly, "come along then."

He waves for Kaoru to follow, and leads him through a wide, brightly lit hall over to the soutaicho's office. The guards on either side of the door immediately snap to attention as they come into sight, stepping to the side and allowing them entrance. He opens up a handsome oak door and beckons Kaoru inside. "It's just through this passage, head on through it and Kenjuro-sama will receive you."

There is another door at the end of this passage, made of polished brass, with an ornate, bronze knocker on the front. Presumably, the soutaicho's office and chambers are immediately within.

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-06-2008, 06:57 AM
"Thank you.", Kaoru said to the Division member who had guided him. He then turned to look down the passage and slowly began walking through it. When he reached the door, he stopped. Using one hand, he clicked the knocker on the door a few times, waiting for a response from the room's occupent.

"Kaoru Miyazaki, Third Seat of the Eleventh Division. I'm here to see you, Kenjuro-Taichou.", he called out softly.

Dizzy
11-06-2008, 04:33 PM
The door swings open inwards, almost as if on its own accord. Within is a warm room, with a crackling fireplace and several portraits hanging from the walls. The soutaicho is seated behind a dark mahogany desk, scribbling a loopy signature on several important-looking documents and thrusting them aside in turn. Although young, he looks rather wearier than he had been at the outset of his appointment, but he gives an inviting smile as he notices Kaoru.

"Sit down, sit down," he says, gesturing to one of several armchairs in front of his desk. "What can I do for you?"

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-06-2008, 10:21 PM
Kaoru slowly entered the room. The warm space had a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere to it, which helped to ease his nerves. He spared a momentary glance at the portraits on the walls before his eyes fell upon the Soutaichou.

Kenjuro appeared to be rushing through paperwork, which caused a small smile to take residence on Kaoru's lips. He nodded gently and moved to seat himself in the chair closest to the Soutaichou's desk, directly opposite of Kenjuro himself.

"Well, Kenjuro-taichou, I came for an interview. A Captain's interview. The position desired is the Captain of the Eleventh Division, since I believe it is still available right now.", Kaoru said calmly, folding his hands in his lap with a small smile.

Dizzy
11-07-2008, 03:50 AM
"That it is," said Kenjuro, leaning over to survey the applicant. "The 11th, then ... our combat division, Seireitei's unbeatable warriors ... "

He looked the other man up and down, an inscrutable expression on his face, occasionally lifting a hand to scratch absently at his temple. Finally, he spoke again, with even, measured words.

"Strictly from what I've seen from you so far," he said, "I would say no. The captain of the 11th Division must be the most formidable shinigami in the Gotei 13. He must be able to strike fear in both enemy and fellow shinigami alike. His division - and all of Seireitei - must have complete confidence in him. We're talking Kamina-level manliness here.

I'd be lying if I said you look the part. Your hair, your eyes, your voice, even your politeness, everything about you is the opposite of what the 11th is stereotyped to embody. I am not inclined to believe that you have yet achieved vice-captain level strength, nor have I heard any glowing reports of your leadership skills.

But then again, that's what this interview is meant to refute, isn't it? I hope that over its course, you are able to prove me very wrong."

At this, he gave an encouraging smile, then sighed and closed his eyes. "Tell me, then, what is your motivation for seeking this office?"

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-07-2008, 04:38 AM
Kaoru remained sitting in the same position as the Soutaichou looked him over, making quick judgments of him. He waited in silence until the other addressed him again. Everything he heard contained nothing that he hadn't already expected to hear.

His mild curiosity compelled him to inquire about just what would happen to him if he failed to alter the Soutaichou's impression of him, but he refrained from doing so. Instead, he focused on answering Kenjuro's last question.

“My motivation is simply the fact that no one like that has stepped forward to claim the position yet, and I would be going against my own wishes if I didn't put forth the effort to try.”, he said.

“Of course, I'm aware that I don't look, act, or speak the expected part, but then again... I was able to gain a Seated position in the Eleventh Division, even before I had graduated from the Academy. I figured that if I could manage that, then I could tough out a Captain's Interview from the Soutaichou himself.” Kaoru offered a respectful smile.

Dizzy
11-07-2008, 05:23 AM
"I see," the soutaichou replied, now watching the applicant over his fingertips. "Well, your confidence is reassuring, to say the least. But you must be sure that you can win over the support of your division. Your predecessor, in particular, was very popular - I daresay that his men would've followed him through hell and back if warranted. You have large footsteps to follow in."

He drummed his fingers against his cheek, gazing intently at Miyazaki. This man had talent, it was obvious enough, but to become a captain, and of the combat division no less, he would have to impress.

"Next then," Kenjuro said, "what are your goals for the 11th Division? Both immediate and for the future, I mean. What changes would you make? I should also remind you that with recent events, your division's ranks have been rather emptied. How do you plan to rectify that?"

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-07-2008, 06:06 AM
“Goals for the Division, hmm? Well, I'll have to take a moment to think on that one...”, Kaoru replied. He went silent again and contemplated his next answer. After a few moments, he opened his mouth to speak.

“As you've just mentioned, the Division is lacking in the number of members it should have... Perhaps that should become the current goal; to restore the Division's numbers to their former strength. There could be several methods for this...

Transferring in some of the more combative members from the other Divisions. Selecting students from the academy for special training or selecting those who show potential in combat, and sending a Seated officer of the Division to personally assist them in their training.

Perhaps even the idea of adopting some of the more combative citizens of Rukongai straight into the Division isn't too much of a far-fetched idea at this point. Even if they don't know how to use their Reiatsu or use Kidou, that's not needed for this particular Division. It could work.”

Dizzy
11-07-2008, 06:43 AM
The soutaicho nodded at Miyazaki's answer. "Good to know that you have ideas," he said, "you'll need that kind of assertion to be a capable captain. Though as shinigami are required to be able to guide souls to the afterlife and purify hollows, a soul without spirit power will not be able to join our ranks. Though they may be valuable for the purpose of defending Seireitei, they would nonetheless be at a loss to fight stronger opponents without the luxury of reiatsu."

He rested his cheek onto one hand and picked at his desk with the other. "Your next question is hypothetical. Say, perchance, you achieve the rank of captain. It may be immediately following this interview, or it may be later on in your shinigami career. You are fighting a losing battle, where defeat and possibly death is all but assured. Most, if not all of your division is present. In fact, this might even be from another captain hopeful challenging you for your spot. What would you do in such a situation?"

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-07-2008, 08:26 AM
Kaoru shifted his eyes down as a smile crept onto his lips. He then looked back up at Kenjuro. "Pardon my reaction, Taichou... I just find that particular question to be a little bit humerous. You called it hypothetical, but something similiar to that situation has already happened to me once before."

"You see, I was attacked by a malevolent clone of my young brother and just after Ito-Taichou dispensed of it, the Sixth Seat of my Division, Sai Amilay, challenged me to a duel. It wasn't even a duel for ranks, just a way for him to test my worth himself.

Anyway, in the end, I was left broken and bleeding with his chains still impaling my body. At that time, I was ready to accept defeat and death. If I had failed in such a simple duel, then what good was I to the Division and to the entire Gotei 13 or even to the Seiretei itself? But... Amilay-san decided not to kill me and spared my life, even said it was best if I kept my rank.

I didn't really understand why he'd done that at the time... But now I think I do. He wanted me to grow and become stronger. He wanted me to live and experience more of what the life of a shinigami has to offer. One day, perhaps I could become more than what I was.", he stopped, raising a hand to his head with a soft sigh.

"Sorry to bore you with past events, Kenjuro-Taichou. I'll answer your question now.", Kaoru continued.

"All 200 members of the Division are present... This new Captain-hopeful has thrown me to the brink of defeat and possibly death. I would... continue fighting, of course. I would fight until my last breath.

However, if this is no longer option, due to dismemberment or some other cause, then... I would accept defeat and death. If I'm damaged beyond repair, then I'm no good to the Seiretei. Whoever has managed to kill me is obviously more worthy of the position and I would wholeheartedly agree.", he said, closing his eyes once again.

Dizzy
11-07-2008, 03:58 PM
"That's a funny coincidence then, isn't it?" the soutaicho chuckled. "But it is good that you already know this feeling. It helps you appreciate life ... and be ready for death. You gave quite a mature answer, and most definitely what I would expect from the captain of the 11th, though I think I would rather my soldiers value their lives a touch more.

Very well then, I'll bore you with one last question before we arrive at the part you've been waiting for. I'd like to know why you would be the best shinigami for this rank."

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-08-2008, 01:13 AM
"Allow me just a few more moments of thought, Kenjuro-taichou, and I'll tell you why I think I would be the best shinigami for the rank desired.", Kaoru responded, resting his chin on his hand. He was silent once more, gathering potential reasons that might lead to his enstatement as Captain of the 11th.

"Well... I wouldn't allow my men to die, if I could prevent it. Especially if they're on a path to self-destruction. Just a day before I came here, I almost died because I was trying to save Amilay-san from dying a rather horrible death... It nearly cost us both of our lives. But yet, I'm sitting here with you now. Given, I'm still healing and scarred, but that's beside the point.

Aside from not leaving them to die, I also wouldn't leave them behind. That was one of the things that ignited my temper during Mission 1D. Which reminds me, I wouldn't hesitate to kill. Even if the target was once a fellow shinigami, such as Akeshita Naota.", he paused, sighing softly. "Let's see, what else...?

Ah, I'm focused on completing whatever mission or task is presented to me. Even though distractions and troublesome team mates might surround me, I keep the objective firmly in mind. Only something like a certain reptilian comrade eating the corpse of a deceased shinigami might deter me for a moment, but I quickly recovered.

If it's for the Gotei 13 or for the Seiretei, then I could bring myself to do anything, or at least attempt it, without hesitation.", he finished.

11-09-2008, 05:27 AM
The soutaicho paused for a few seconds, then nodded and stood up from his desk. "Very well then," he said, "our interview portion is done. But as you're applying for captainship of the 11th, I'm going to test your battle capabilities as well. Please follow me."

Kenjuro led the way into an open training area behind his office; a flat, grassy field surrounded by heavily reinforced walls. Several unused mirrors were stacked in a corner. Evidently, this was the soutaicho's private training ground.

"If you are to take the mantle of captain," he said, standing at a distance from Miyazaki, "then you must prove yourself able to fight like one. Now I understand that you are not yet vice-captain level, so I will be looking for technique and tactics. You are free to use anything in your power to attack me. Shikai, kidou, anything is fair game.

We start ... now."

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-09-2008, 09:04 AM
Kaoru waited patiently as the Soutaichou remained silent and stood up. After he was asked to follow the other man, he too stood up from his chair, walking around the desk to do so. As he entered the grassy training yard, he caught sight of the mirrors in the corner. He spent a single moment pondering on what they might have been used for in the Soutaichou's personal training.

It was then that Kenjuro's voice captured his attention again and Kaoru rested his gaze on him. While the Taichou was explaining the rules for his skill test, the lesser shinigami drew his Zanpakutou from his obi. He let the blades of the fan fall open before he unsealed its Shikai. A semi-strong gust began to pick up around the enclosed field, waving the grass. “Blossom, Hanamaru.”

In an uproar of wind, combined with a flash of dark light, Kaoru was then holding two curved swords. Each blade was solid black in color and seemed to radiate the wind currents that were now starting to circulate throughout the area. At hearing the word, “Now,” a small smile slipped onto his lips. 'All right... Time to see if I can impress him.'

The purple-haired shinigami pulled back his right hand and swung the blade forward in a swift motion, unleashing a series of serrated wind blades at the Soutaichou. Following this attack, Kaoru dashed forward, using the wind to increase his speed. He attempted to get in close to Kenjuro and then swung each blade, one after the other, in another hard attack.

Dizzy
11-09-2008, 05:02 PM
The soutaicho raised a hand and, seemingly without effort, dispelled the wind blades one by one as they crashed against his immense reiatsu. This continued as Miyazaki began a close-ranged assault; each blow was met and nullified by Kenjuro's hand. He raised an eyebrow, as if to ask if this was all that Miyazaki had.

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-10-2008, 02:08 AM
Kaoru felt, rather than saw, his blades being deflected by Kenjuro's hand. Though his ability to sense reiatsu wasn't as strong as that of other shinigami, he definitely felt the Soutaichou's. It was a far, far cry from his own. As his first two attacks were made ineffective, he jumped back to put some distance between himself and his opponent. If nothing else, he'd managed to get a measure of just what he was up against.

As he watched Kenjuro for any sign of an upcoming attack, he began to formulate another plan. There was a slim chance that it would work but what was a battle without risks involved? Kaoru made the decision to attempt it.

Instead of using the wind to increase his speed, he used Shyunpou to replace himself directly in front of the Soutaichou. He already had his right hand pulled back, and then swung it forward for a sweeping attack. But at the last second, his hand released the blade, letting it fly freely at Kenjuro. While he was hopefully distracted with it, Kaoru brought his right hand forward, palm facing his opponent.

"Bakkudou 61: Rukujyoukourou!", he called out, casting the Binding Kidou at the Soutaichou. Of course, he'd realized that it might have been ineffective as well, but it also might have worked or at least granted him the time for another attack. Kaoru raised the blade still in his left hand and attacked Kenjuro again as soon as the Kidou was cast, aiming for his unused arm. As well as attacking with the blade, he also created some serrated wind blades to accompany it.

Dizzy
11-10-2008, 04:45 AM
Kenjuro watched interestedly as Miyazaki fell back, then resumed his siege under a different tactic. He registered when the other man was about to throw his blade and caught it between his fingers, backing off to avoid the obvious follow-up.

He was therefore quite surprised when Miyazaki fired a bakudou instead - six rods of light slammed into his gut and imprisoned him for all of half a second before he blasted his reiatsu forth and dispelled it. However, that was enough for Miyazaki's other zanpakuto to hit his right arm. The wind blades ricocheted harmlessly off of his left.

"Well, well," said the soutaicho, "I can't say I saw the bakudou coming. I thought the pride of the 11th meant you'd be above such tactics? ... Not that I disapprove or anything, just wondering," he added hastily.

"But yes, this is what I want to see. Even if you can't cut me, use your skills to fool me, to surprise me. Make me feel enough fear to draw my blade."

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-10-2008, 08:46 AM
Before Kaoru attempted another assault, he remained close to Kenjuro, lashing out with his right hand to grasp the hilt of his earlier discarded sword. As his fingers closed around the hilt, he ripped it away from the other's hand and jumped back again. He waited for a while as the Soutaichou spoke.

“The times have changed, Kenjuro-taichou. Quite a few of my fellow Division members also know how to use Binding and Offensive Kidou in their attacks. It isn't too uncommon these days.”, he replied.

It was then that he looked at the blade in his left hand. He slid the sword in his right hand into his obi and ran his freed fingers over the length of its twin. His fingertips came away from the cold hard steel and they were stained with red; proof that some blood had been spilled. Kaoru smiled confidently as he raised his stained fingers up for Kenjuro to see.

“Oh, and, with all due respect, Kenjuro-taichou, I did manage to cut you on that last attack.”, he added.

Afterwards, he re-drew his other sword and contemplated his next move. What else could he possibly throw at the Soutaichou, that he hadn't used already...? Then he realized it; he hadn't been pouring his own reiatsu into his attacks. Perhaps that might lend to his strength and overturn this battle.

While keeping a careful eye on his opponent, Kaoru began to let his reiatsu flow into the winds surrounding him. His reiatsu infused with it as he began to create numerous wind blades within the currents. He then completely threw off the paths of the currents and let the winds and the blades within them thrash wildly around himself and the Soutaichou.

His twin swords also seeped with his reiatsu, and it almost seemed as though they were resonating with an urge to continue the fight. He used Shyunpou once more and disappeared from his previous position. After reappearing directly behind Kenjuro and hovering slightly in the air, Kaoru thrust both of his weapons down at the other man, pouring his reiatsu into the strength of his blades and the force of the attack as well.

Dizzy
11-11-2008, 05:24 AM
"So you did," the soutaicho commented wryly, inspecting the spot of crimson on his white haori's sleeve. Finally, his applicant was fueling his attacks with reiatsu; Kenjuro rather wondered what had taken him so long. Now with much more power, the man resumed his attack by firing off a wild onslaught of wind blades, which Kenjuro raised his reiatsu to match, blasting them apart before they even reached him.

At Miyazaki's shyunpo move, the soutaicho immediately read his movements and whipped around, halting the sword strokes with his arm. They sank through the cloth of his sleeves and bit ever-so-slightly into his skin; minuscule lines of blood began to form beneath the blades. Kenjuro grinned slightly; he was quite impressed. Although the other man remained unable to do any real damage or fight on par with him, that fact remained that he'd broken through his reiatsu, pierced his defense, and cut him. It proved that the first time was no fluke.

Once again, he blasted Miyazaki backwards with a strong burst of reiatsu and maintained it this time, the now-visible aura of spirit power surrounding him, generating winds that sent the dirt on the ground spiraling in concentric waves. "Alright then," he said, louder to be heard over the wind, "once more, with feeling!"

Kaoru Miyazaki
11-11-2008, 07:46 AM
Kaoru was pushed backwards from the Soutaichou. He shifted himself in the air to land on his feet, sliding just a few feet on the slick grass. After regaining his proper stance, he looked up to see Kenjuro's reiatsu rise to the point of visibility. He barely managed to hear the other man speak over the howling of his winds.

Just one more shot... He had just one more chance to give everything he had into the last attack. Kaoru closed his eyes. Internally, he began to tap into the power and reiatsu he had gained from Kaito and his own Zanpakutou, Hanamaru. It rose to the surface and errupted from his body, granting him a dark purple aura and tinting the surrounding air a lighter shade.

After opening his eyes once more, Kaoru threw himself at the Soutaichou. He used the thrashing winds to aide his speed and held his swords out to the sides. When he was within a close distance to Kenjuro, he poured all of his reiatsu into his final attack, sweeping both of his blades up and thrusting them forward at Kenjuro with all the force he had within himself.

When the blow arrived, it was not met by Kenjuro's arm, but by a ringing clash of steel on steel - the soutaicho had drawn his zanpakuto to defend against Miyazaki's attack. The two blades remained fixed in midair for a second, neither moving an inch, and then the waves of reiatsu surrounding the two began to fade as Kenjuro re-sheathed his sword.

"Rather impressive, I must say," he chuckled, lifting his sleeve to inspect the previous cuts that had been inflicted on him. "While I didn't quite fear that I would lose an arm, your attack still seemed dangerous enough not to risk my health on it. Very well, you are dismissed. You will receive the results of your interview within three days' time."

Kaoru couldn't hide a small grin as it slipped onto his lips; he'd heard the ringing of their swords as they met in mid-attack. For a few short moments, everything was still and silent, including the two shinigami themselves. But then the blades disconnected. He slid his twin swords into his obi, echoing Kenjuro's movements.

As the Soutaichou addressed him, the purple-haired shinigami listened with a focused gaze. Kaoru's grin changed to an understanding smile and he quickly ducked into a low bow. He felt a slight twinge of pain, accompanied by a heavy wetness that was soaking the front of his Shihakushou, but ignored it.

"Yes, Kenjuro-taichou, I understand. Thank you very much for taking the time to interview me. Our fight was the best I've had yet, and I'm very grateful for it. All that aside, I will patiently await your decision. Farewell."

With that said, Kaoru stood up straight and turned to leave the enclosed field. He made his way out of the First Division before finally stopping to take a peek beneath his uniform. The stitches that had been sewn across his chest had torn some time during the fight, thus ripping the flesh open again.

'Oh, dear... Seems I'll have to make a small stop at the Fourth Division once again... I do hope that they're not becoming annoyed with me for having to make so many trips there.', Kaoru thought silently to himself as he Shyunpoud towards the Fourth Division.
