Even if your not a wrestling fan you may have heard of Chris Benoit. He, like the late Eddie Guerrero were legends in their time and had many great matches over their career. Benoit, his wife Nancy and his son were found dead in their Atlanta home this very morning. Deepest sympathies go out to Chris and his family who I'm sure, are all in a better place this evening.

I still can't believe it, it's shocking really. One thing I know is that he's up in the heavens with Eddie Guerrero.

R.I.P Chris Benoit, you're considered a consummate professional both inside and outside the ring. You will be missed.

This just came from ABC.com

ABC NEWS - Wrestling star Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and their 7-year-old son, Daniel, were found dead in their suburban Atlanta home Monday. The deaths are being investigated as a possible suicide and double homicide, authorities told ABC News.

Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told ABC News that Benoit had missed several appointments over the weekend, leading concerned parties to ask police to do a "welfare check." When sheriffs arrived at the Benoits' home, they found the wrestler, his wife and their son dead.

There were no signs of gunshot wounds or stabbing, according to Pope. Authorities are not ruling out other causes, such as poisoning, suffocation or strangulation. Pope told ABC News that his department is looking at this situation as a "possible double murder, suicide."

Pope said "the instruments of death were located on scene," but he would not specify what those instruments are or where in the house the bodies were found. Pope added the department is "not actively searching for any suspects outside of the house."

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. However, it could be weeks before there is a result.

Benoit, 40, was scheduled to spar against C.M. Punk in a pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston for the Extreme Champion Wrestling title. But Benoit canceled before the event, citing personal reasons.

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Benoit was known in the ring as the "Canadian Crippler."

Following the announcement of the deaths, World Wrestling Entertainment issued a statement: "Chris was beloved among his fellow superstars, and was a favorite among WWE fans for his unbelievable athleticism and wrestling ability. He always took great pride in his performance, and always showed respect for the business he loved, for his peers and toward his fans. This is a terrible tragedy and an unbearable loss. WWE extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the Benoit family and loved ones in this time of tragedy."

WWE announced that it would drop its planned Monday night line-up on the USA Network to air a three-hour tribute to Benoit.

In a sport known for bravado and bullying, Benoit was very much beloved and respected by his peers. He was passionate about his profession and served as a mentor to many younger, up-and-coming performers. As an indication of how much the fans enjoyed him, when the crowd in Houston's Toyota Center learned Sunday night that he wouldn't be there, they chanted, "We want Benoit!"

I'm not a wrestling fan, but it's always sad to hear such news.
But it's lately more and more wrestlers who have lost their life in young ages.

 I can't f***ing believe Chris Benoit is dead and that he murdered his wife and son, it is like losin a member of my family. I had the pleasure of meeting Chris and he was an awesome person. It is so f***ing hard to believe that in a matter a couple of years he lost his marbles and became a mass murderer. I think losin Eddie drove him over the edge *as in the edge of a cliff not wrestler edge*

It's a chance I was sat when I read this thread.
First: WHAT?
Second: NO BUT WHAT?
Third: OMG!
Seriously, it saddens me to no end; he was one of the top pro-wrestler. I wonder why he went down like this. And killing his wife and his son? I'm so sorry for them. And for him too. The whole story is just weird. Why? I just don't understand him. And his wife and his son... >_<

Update just in: Apparently he strangled his wife, smothered his son, then hung himself in his weight room.

I haven't watched pro wrestling for years now, but I remember Chris Benoit being a talented and popular wrestler. It's really sad when something like this happens.

Tonight on ECW the WWE chairman Vince Mcmahon will apologize for the "tribute" show last night. The WWE wasnt aware that Benoit killed his wife and son until after the show went off the air, and as som of you notice I had a tribute sig and ava even set up but I changed it back...this doesnt mean I now hate him in anyway I just think they shouldn't have made a 3hour tribute to essentially a killer when they didnt even investigate into the reason of death.

It's sad how a person's life can go down to that, a suicide plus a double homicide. It's really tragic.

But I really, really can't forgive the fact that he killed his innocent family. To kill himself, and then bring his family down with him? Terrible.

I hope everything is resolved, regarding the mystery. Who knows? He might not have killed them, he could've been framed. But the only people who would really know would be they who have been killed, and God.

One of the articles said the investigators found steroids in his house...so he probably went nuts on those or something

Of course I won't make judgments until this completely unfolds, perhaps he was framed or something, we still don't have conclusive details. Either way, its still a sad and very unexpected tragedy...

They Said That Tests Will Be Done To Determine If Any Substances Were Present In His Body. You All Know This Where This Is Gonna Lead With All The Steroid Talk In Sports As It Already Is. Media Just Loves Stories Like This To Exploit.

Hmm I didn't really know who he was anyways, the only wrestlers I know is the Rock and Stone Cold etc. It's still really sad, I have no idea what would drive someone to do it and I don't really want to know.

Blame Vince , Vince did face a case in 1994/1995 for encouraging wrestlers to take steroids . Mostly likely Roid Rage was the reason for him going insane

This is the story out accuracy unkown

Nah, they said it most likely wasn't roid rage because there was deliberation and thought in the murders not rage. He stranged his wife he didnt beat her to death, and placed bibles next to the bodies. He wouldnt do that and stay in the house so long if it was roid rage. I think it may have been depression from the down of drugs or painkillers.

Does anyone know why he killed his Wife, Son and Himself?
There must be a reason, he couldn't have woken up one morning and decided to go on a killing-spree....and then commit suicide.

Well, it was never confirmed, but people always believed Chris had a form of autism. I hope that's the case because roid rage and his relationship troubles with Nancy were no reason for this. Chris, I pray you find peace somewhere, my friend.

He ordered drugs from the internet? Ack, that's bad news right there. =/ He might have gotten something else instead of steroids or testosterone.

R.I.P. to his wife and especially 7 year-old son. As for him, well, I hope he finally found peace.

I feel sorry for his family. I respected Chris, but if he really did kill him, any sympathy I had for him will be out the window within a second. I would never miss or feel sorry for a murderer, especially a murderer of a 7 year old boy.

Chris was always a kind person. He loved his son and his wife dearly. Yes, he had bouts of depression and anger. Those were caused mostly by stress from the business and the possible divorce from Nancy. That was later resolved, so this just doesn't make any sense. I remember watching how Chris was with Daniel. If he did this (as I'm unfortunately very sure that he did), then I just don't understand why. The Chris who I knew. The Chris who we all knew. He would never have done something like this. That either means that I didn't know him as well as I thought I did or something very serious and Earth-shattering must have befallen the family in recent history. I just don't understand and I'm sure I never will.

Also, just read this:

Benoit’s son suffered from Fragile X Syndrome; speculation over whether pressure was too much
Written: June 27, 2007

WWE.com learned from an interview conducted Tuesday by Vancouver’s News1130 that Chris Benoit’s son Daniel possibly suffered from Fragile X Syndrome, a genetically passed-on condition that results in impairments ranging from physical and learning disabilities, to more severe cognitive or intellectual disabilities.

In the interview with News1130, Pam Winthrope, whose own 12-year-old son suffers from Fragile X Syndrome, recounted how she and her husband talked to Benoit about the condition five years ago.

“We talked to him because I was trying to set up a support group in B.C. and in Canada; we only have a couple of them,” she said. “My husband was struggling when we got diagnosed with our son, and Chris was struggling with his. They talked for a few minutes, and then he said he didn’t want to be a public face for Fragile X. He just wanted to keep it really, really quiet.”

A source close to Benoit recalls similar conversations with him, where he described his son’s condition as “a learning disability much like autism.” This source quotes Benoit as saying “Daniel wasn’t capable of interacting with other children and was afraid of other children. Daniel also had a hard time making eye contact with everyone, which was another symptom of his disability.” Benoit also claimed that his son was on medication for this condition.

Winthrope discussed the pressures facing parents of children diagnosed with Fragile X syndrome. During her interview with News1130, she stated that families can be torn apart by the disease because it's very difficult to find help and support. Winthrope added, "You as a parent have to go out there and find what's available and it's not easy -- they don't tell you."

A co-worker and long-time friend of the Benoits speculates that perhaps the pressures of home and Daniel’s illness had gotten to him, causing him to snap and take the lives of his wife and son before taking his own.

“Is it possible that after Chris killed Nancy (for whatever reason), he felt Daniel wouldn't be able to get the care and attention he required as a special needs child (if that is indeed true) with no mother and a father either in jail or dead? Did he then decide that the only way he could protect and take care of his son was to take him to the next world and go with him? In his warped and twisted state, did he think this was the only way to shield his son from a difficult life of pain and hardship? It doesn't condone or justify a damn thing, but it's the best reason I can think of. I'm trying to put together some semblance of logic for his actions, but it's an impossible task trying to explain this.”

Each day that passes by, Im more conviced he did it. Shame really.

Many wrestlers act rabid and pissed off for entertainment reasons Its WW Entertainment after all . I could see Eddie snapping like that but not Chris . Chris came off to me always as soft spoken and a kind soul . I seen lot of wrestlers snap Eddie Curt and Big Show . I can never picture Chris to do anything like that .

We could speculate and say he was stressed about his son , but what drove him what motivated him . I can only think steroids and pain killers he had dislocated his neck. ....... Sorry somehow I can never picture Chris as a Cold Blooded Killer

The Wrestling Faternity has to review their policy on use of steroids

I saw a comment on Youtube he summed it up I guess

The whole thing sucks. I believe he killed his wife out of rage, his son out of sympathy, and himself out of guilt. Benoit was great, but this tragic end puts a big fat stain on his career and legacy forever.

HELLA PINOY

This is officially the top story in the nation...His son had needle marks in his arm from what the investigators believe he was injected with growth hormones. Some say his motive was that his son was an embarrasment because he was very small for his age or dwarfed. This whole case is sparking alot of stories about child abuse, steroids in sports, domestic violence, and talking to kids about the death of their hero.

They are still saying that roid rage may still be a factor. The depression that comes from the "down" of taking steroids is similar to taking drugs. The psychological effects are can be very horrific and disturbing.

Saffire
06-28-2007, 05:49 PM
It wasn't just his size though, his son was mentally retarted. I've interacted with a number of families with children that have physical or mental disabilities, and the stress that accompanies it can be immense.

Another interview I've read with his doctor said that Chris was in the office mere hours before the weekend started, and he didn't show any signs of distress or anger. The doctor also expressed surprise at the involvement of Chris' son, saying he "worshipped his child".

I really don't know what to think anymore. The more information that comes out, the more sympathetic I get towards his situation.

I just don't know what to think anymore. When I first heard of their deaths, I was crushed and overwhelmed. Now I sit here in my office and all I can think as I read this story is how absolutely weird this all is. I know that all the details and causes behind this tragedy will never be fully disclosed or discovered, but I can't help feeling angry. As much as I loved Chris and as much as I KNOW he loved his family, I just can't bring myself to understand why he would do such a thing. I truly feel lost in all of this.
