The first episode of Season 3 has been leaked online, for any fans who might be interested. This season looks like it is going to be good. I'm so excited I have some crazy predictions I'd like to share with you. It contains lots of spoilers so don't read it if you want to wait until Sept 28.
So what got me started is the fact that Miguel claims his younger brother told him he was going to confront Freebo about selling drugs to his youth group members. Now, since Oscar went there with the intent of killing Freebo why would he tell his brother he was meeting him at all. Miguel is the leading prosecutor for 3 years running so it ain't the best of alibi's now is it.
I happen to think Miguel is not telling the truth. This is where it starts to get crazy and I'm mostly guessing so keep that in mind. I believe Miguel and his family are somehow involved in drug trafficking and other underground stuff. I'll state plenty of reasons throughout. I'm also using patterns from the previous two season as well as intuition.
First lets concentrate on Oscar. He knew Freebo quite well, well enough to get in debt with Freebo over drug use. I'm sure most drug dealers only give out drugs for immediate cash, not everyone gets drugs on credit. One question is why would Oscar choose a drug dealer that he knows and most of Miami knows got away with killing two college girls.
His family is big in law enforcement and his brother is a big shot prosecutor so why the poor judgment, most upper/middle class drug users would keep their distance from people like Freebo. One reason is that Freebo might have been working for the Prado family. That could be why he was so willing to feed Oscars habit. He might have got tired of it after a while and threatened to tell Miguel about the situation. So Oscar would want to silence him before he got the chance.
Another reason for killing Freebo could be due to the whole murder case, he would be on too many peoples radars and might draw attention to the Prado families dirty deeds. For whatever reason he was marked for death. Oscar goes to kill him only ending up getting killed by Dexter who also went to kill Freebo.
Now looking at the way Oscar was dressed, how he handled himself and his weapon of choice, it just feels like he has done this before. I believe he was part of the muscle of the Prado family, he gave Dexter a run for his money. Oscar certainly knew what he was doing and was very sure about himself.
This encounter then causes Dexter to get curious about the man who attacked him and whom he killed. Dexter knows in his gut this guy has done this before and wants to prove it for his own peace of mind. Miguel Prado confronts Dexter on why he was looking into Oscars past. First of all, why would a grieving brother immediately be looking into who is doing internal searches on his dead brother? It seems kind of odd. This is why I think he is in clean up mode.
The reason he is getting close and we know he will continue this as the season progresses, is because he feels Dexter's curiosity is dangerous or for other reasons listed below. He wants to make sure Dexter never gets too close or if he does he will know before it is too late. Giving him time to decide on how to deal with Dexter.
Now onto Freebo's dead girlfriend, I have doubts that it was Freebo who killed her. Mainly due to the missing piece of skin. He said that she was going to redefine the meaning of a short term relationship. So she was not his girlfriend for too long, so there probably wasn't a tattoo where the missing skin was that could link her to him. Also when we first see her, it doesn't look like there was a tattoo there anyway.
She was strangled so the killer might have left some mark or some evidence that could identify him, that is why he removed the piece of skin. It has the feelings of someone who is familiar with law enforcement/forensics. Oscar might have had some relationship with this girl, he might have used her to get more tar from Freebo. She could also have been a part of the Prado family drug business(call girl) or she was questioned about Oscars death and determined to know too much about him.
Freebo just seemed like he wanted to kill her because she was an annoying drug addict. Why would he kill her so soon after nearly being killed himself, surely he would go into hiding. Is this guy really that bold that he would go out and kill his annoying girlfriend while the cops are out looking for him. I think it was the middle Prado brother who killed her, the one who is the cop.
He is hell bent on finding out who killed his brother, he probably knows it wasn't Freebo. I would not be surprised to see Freebo's doorman show up dead next. Anyone who could know something about Oscars death or knows too much will probably start showing up dead.
I think Dexter will catch on to this odd pattern and start putting the pieces together. He'll eventually link it back to the Prado family and be faced with some difficult decisions. In his code they would probably meet the requirements to face his blade. This would be too messy and complicated. It is more likely he will chase Debra down the rabbit hole towards her detective shield. If she is the one who uncovers the Prado families dirty deeds, she is certain for great rewards.
This could also give rise to some interesting things, if the Prado family suspects she is getting close. They might come after her but I'm sure Dexter will know the dangers and keep a close eye on her. I think it would be cool if his hand was forced and he had to kill someone in front of Debra, like some guy sent to kill her. That could complicate things.
Now on to Quinn's involvement. Debra has been asked by Internal Affairs to get close to Quinn, the new detective in homicide. They say he first started getting their attention when he was in narcotics, could he be a part of the Prado family business? He seems to like Debra and I am sure she thinks he is cute. She will most likely agree to getting close to him.
This could mean that she uncovers the truth by herself, either by following Quinn and seeing who he meets or by other means. She will then most likely only share this info with Batista and maybe Dexter. This is another potential moment in getting Dexter involved but I think he will figure this out before Debra.
Well, that's about it. Hopefully I didn't bore you, I know some parts are stretched but with time I will be able to cross stuff out or hopefully get more involved with certain ideas. The fact is Oscars death has a high possibility of leading to something more juicy, Miguel Prado is definitely going to play a big part. Just trying to catch Freebo doesn't seem like a good enough reason to keep him around for the whole season.

My nails at the moment are done like those of the Icetruck Killer's victims. Completely unintentional, I just chucked on nailpolish and a friend of mine saw me and went 'DEXTER'

Dexter's an awesome show! I don't get showtime, but there are many things you can find on the internet these days... And I might be able to point someone in some directions if they asked...
Anyway, I really like the cast. Dexter's a very complex lead character and Michael C. Hall is definitely deserving of an emmy for his performance. Debra is also one of the better strong female characters I've seen.
The whole supporting cast is just great. Angel, Vince, they're all wonderful. I'm going to miss Sgt. Doakes this season though.

OMG!! I can't believe someone else has read this book!! I haven't seen the show yet, but when I read the book, like a hundred years ago, I remember thinking "This would make one AWESOME movie!" And then they went and made a SERIES!! Even better! The book was great! I remember at the time I was reading it, trying to describe it to someone, and telling them "It's about a serial killer who only kills other serial killers" and they just about fell over in hysterics. XD
